²⁴ “Ἀγωνίζεσθε (Strive) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) στενῆς (narrow) θύρας (door); ὅτι (for) πολλοί (many), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ζητήσουσιν (will seek) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἰσχύσουσιν (will be able).

²⁰ οὕτως (thus) δὲ (now) φιλοτιμούμενον (being ambitious) εὐαγγελίζεσθαι (to preach the gospel) οὐχ (not) ὅπου (where) ὠνομάσθη (had been named) Χριστός (Christ), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ἐπ’ (upon) ἀλλότριον (another’s) θεμέλιον (foundation) οἰκοδομῶ (I might build).

³⁰ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), διὰ (by) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) διὰ (by) τῆς (the) ἀγάπης (love) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit), συναγωνίσασθαί (to strive together with) μοι (me) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) προσευχαῖς (prayers) ὑπὲρ (for) ἐμοῦ (me) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God),

²⁵ πᾶς (Everyone) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) ἀγωνιζόμενος (striving), πάντα (in all things) ἐγκρατεύεται (controls himself); ἐκεῖνοι (they) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (then), ἵνα (that) φθαρτὸν (a perishable) στέφανον (crown) λάβωσιν (they might receive), ἡμεῖς (we) δὲ (however) ἄφθαρτον (an imperishable). ²⁶ ἐγὼ (I) τοίνυν (therefore) οὕτως (thus) τρέχω (run), ὡς (as) οὐκ (not) ἀδήλως (uncertainly); οὕτως (so) πυκτεύω (I fight), ὡς (as) οὐκ (not) ἀέρα (the air) δέρων (beating). ²⁷ ἀλλὰ (But) ὑπωπιάζω (I batter) μου (of me) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) καὶ (and) δουλαγωγῶ (bring it into servitude), μή (not) πως (hardly) ἄλλοις (to others) κηρύξας (having preached), αὐτὸς (myself) ἀδόκιμος (disqualified) γένωμαι (I might be).

⁶ καὶ (and) διαιρέσεις (varieties) ἐνεργημάτων (of workings) εἰσίν (there are), ὁ (the) δὲ (but) αὐτὸς (same) Θεός (God) ὁ (-) ἐνεργῶν (is working) τὰ (the) πάντα (all things) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (everyone).

¹¹ πάντα (All) δὲ (now) ταῦτα (these things) ἐνεργεῖ (works) τὸ (the) ἓν (one) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) Πνεῦμα (Spirit), διαιροῦν (apportioning) ἰδίᾳ (individually) ἑκάστῳ (to each) καθὼς (as) βούλεται (He wills).

¹⁰ χάριτι (By the grace) δὲ (however) Θεοῦ (of God), εἰμι (I am) ὅ (what) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἡ (-) εἰς (toward) ἐμὲ (me) οὐ (not) κενὴ (void) ἐγενήθη (has been). ἀλλὰ (Rather), περισσότερον (more abundantly) αὐτῶν (than them) πάντων (all) ἐκοπίασα (I toiled), οὐκ (not) ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ‹ἡ› (that was) σὺν (with) ἐμοί (me).

⁹ διὸ (Therefore) καὶ (also) φιλοτιμούμεθα (we are ambitious), εἴτε (whether) ἐνδημοῦντες (being at home) εἴτε (or) ἐκδημοῦντες (being away), εὐάρεστοι (well-pleasing) αὐτῷ (to Him) εἶναι (to be).

⁵ ἐν (in) πληγαῖς (beatings), ἐν (in) φυλακαῖς (imprisonments), ἐν (in) ἀκαταστασίαις (riots), ἐν (in) κόποις (labors), ἐν (in) ἀγρυπνίαις (watchings), ἐν (in) νηστείαις (fastings);

²³ διάκονοι (Servants) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) εἰσιν (are they)? παραφρονῶν (As being beside myself) λαλῶ (I speak) ὑπὲρ (above measure): ἐγώ (I too), ἐν (in) κόποις (labors) περισσοτέρως (more abundantly), ἐν (in) φυλακαῖς (imprisonments) περισσοτέρως (more abundantly), ἐν (in) πληγαῖς (beatings) ὑπερβαλλόντως (above measure), ἐν (in) θανάτοις (deaths) πολλάκις (often).

⁹ καὶ (And) εἴρηκέν (He said) μοι (to me), “Ἀρκεῖ (Suffices) σοι (you) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) μου (of Me); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) δύναμις (power) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness) τελεῖται (is perfected).” Ἥδιστα (Most gladly) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (rather) καυχήσομαι (will I boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses) ‹μου› (of me), ἵνα (so that) ἐπισκηνώσῃ (may rest) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ). ¹⁰ διὸ (Therefore) εὐδοκῶ (I take pleasure) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses), ἐν (in) ὕβρεσιν (insults), ἐν (in) ἀνάγκαις (hardships), ἐν (in) διωγμοῖς (persecutions), καὶ (and) στενοχωρίαις (difficulties) ὑπὲρ (for) Χριστοῦ (Christ); ὅταν (when) γὰρ (for) ἀσθενῶ (I might be weak), τότε (then) δυνατός (strong) εἰμι (I am).

³ ἐπεὶ (since) δοκιμὴν (a proof) ζητεῖτε (you seek), τοῦ (-) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (me) λαλοῦντος (speaking) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὃς (who) εἰς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you) οὐκ (not) ἀσθενεῖ (is weak), ἀλλὰ (but) δυνατεῖ (is powerful) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you).

¹⁹ καὶ (and) τί (what) τὸ (is the) ὑπερβάλλον (surpassing) μέγεθος (greatness) τῆς (of the) δυνάμεως (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (toward) ἡμᾶς (us), τοὺς (those) πιστεύοντας (believing) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἐνέργειαν (working) τοῦ (of the) κράτους (might) τῆς (of the) ἰσχύος (strength) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

²⁷ Μόνον (Only) ἀξίως (worthily) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) πολιτεύεσθε (conduct yourselves), ἵνα (so that) εἴτε (whether) ἐλθὼν (having come) καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen) ὑμᾶς (you), εἴτε (or) ἀπὼν (being absent), ἀκούω (I might hear) τὰ (the things) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ὅτι (that) στήκετε (you are standing firm) ἐν (in) ἑνὶ (one) πνεύματι (spirit), μιᾷ (with one) ψυχῇ (mind) συναθλοῦντες (striving together) τῇ (for the) πίστει (faith) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel),

¹³ Θεὸς (God) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the One) ἐνεργῶν (working) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) καὶ (both) τὸ (-) θέλειν (to will) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) ἐνεργεῖν (to work) ὑπὲρ (according to) τῆς (His) εὐδοκίας (good pleasure).

¹⁶ λόγον (the word) ζωῆς (of life) ἐπέχοντες (holding forth), εἰς (unto) καύχημα (a boast) ἐμοὶ (to me) εἰς (in) ἡμέραν (the day) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰς (in) κενὸν (vain) ἔδραμον (I did run) οὐδὲ (nor) εἰς (in) κενὸν (vain) ἐκοπίασα (toil).

¹ Θέλω (I want) γὰρ (for) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰδέναι (to know) ἡλίκον (how great) ἀγῶνα (a struggle) ἔχω (I am having) ὑπὲρ (for) ὑμῶν (you), καὶ (and) τῶν (those) ἐν (in) Λαοδικείᾳ (Laodicea), καὶ (and) ὅσοι (as many as) οὐχ (not) ἑόρακαν (have seen) τὸ (the) πρόσωπόν (face) μου (of me) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh),

⁹ Μνημονεύετε (You remember) γάρ (for), ἀδελφοί (brothers), τὸν (the) κόπον (labor) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) τὸν (-) μόχθον (hardship): νυκτὸς (Night) καὶ (and) ἡμέρας (day) ἐργαζόμενοι (working), πρὸς (in order) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἐπιβαρῆσαί (to burden) τινα (anyone) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐκηρύξαμεν (we proclaimed) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁸ οὐδὲ (nor) δωρεὰν (without payment) ἄρτον (bread) ἐφάγομεν (did we eat) παρά (from) τινος (anyone), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) κόπῳ (labor) καὶ (and) μόχθῳ (hardship), νυκτὸς (night) καὶ (and) ἡμέρας (day) ἐργαζόμενοι (working), πρὸς (in order) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἐπιβαρῆσαί (to be burdensome to) τινα (any) ὑμῶν (of you),

¹⁰ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), πάντα (all things) ὑπομένω (I endure) διὰ (for the sake of) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτούς (elect), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (they) σωτηρίας (the salvation) τύχωσιν (may obtain) τῆς (that is) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), μετὰ (with) δόξης (glory) αἰωνίου (eternal).

⁴ Οὔπω (Not yet) μέχρις (unto) αἵματος (blood) ἀντικατέστητε (have you resisted), πρὸς (against) τὴν (-) ἁμαρτίαν (sin) ἀνταγωνιζόμενοι (struggling),

²¹ καταρτίσαι (equip) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in) παντὶ (everything) ἀγαθῷ (good), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ποιῆσαι (to do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ποιῶν (working) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us) τὸ (that which is) εὐάρεστον (well pleasing) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him), διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ᾧ (to whom be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

³ καὶ (And) ὑπομονὴν (perseverance) ἔχεις (you have), καὶ (and) ἐβάστασας (have endured) διὰ (for the sake of) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) κεκοπίακες (have grown weary).
