²⁸ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the one) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) φανερῷ (outward) Ἰουδαῖός (a Jew) ἐστιν (is); οὐδὲ (neither) ἡ (the one) ἐν (outwardly), τῷ (the) φανερῷ (outward) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (flesh), περιτομή (is circumcision); ²⁹ ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (he who is) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) κρυπτῷ (inward) Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew is one); καὶ (and) περιτομὴ (circumcision is) καρδίας (of heart), ἐν (in) πνεύματι (spirit), οὐ (not) γράμματι (in letter); οὗ (of whom) ὁ (the) ἔπαινος (praise) οὐκ (is not) ἐξ (of) ἀνθρώπων (men), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

¹¹ καὶ (And) ταῦτά (such) τινες (some of) ἦτε (you were); ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπελούσασθε (you were washed), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡγιάσθητε (you were sanctified), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐδικαιώθητε (you were justified), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us).

² Οἴδατε (You know) ὅτι (that) ὅτε (when) ἔθνη (pagans) ἦτε (you were), πρὸς (to) τὰ (-) εἴδωλα (idols) τὰ (-) ἄφωνα (mute), ὡς (even as) ἂν (-) ἤγεσθε (you were led), ἀπαγόμενοι (being carried away).

¹⁵ Ἡμεῖς (We), φύσει (by birth) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (of) ἐθνῶν (the Gentiles) ‘Ἁμαρτωλοί (sinners),’

⁸ Ἀλλὰ (But) τότε (at that time) μὲν (indeed) οὐκ (not) εἰδότες (knowing) Θεὸν (God), ἐδουλεύσατε (you were enslaved) τοῖς (to those) φύσει (by nature) μὴ (not) οὖσιν (being) θεοῖς (gods); ⁹ νῦν (now) δὲ (however), γνόντες (having known) Θεόν (God), μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (however) γνωσθέντες (having been known) ὑπὸ (by) Θεοῦ (God), πῶς (how) ἐπιστρέφετε (do you turn) πάλιν (again) ἐπὶ (to) τὰ (the) ἀσθενῆ (weak) καὶ (and) πτωχὰ (destitute) στοιχεῖα (principles), οἷς (to which) πάλιν (again) ἄνωθεν (anew) δουλεύειν* (to be enslaved) θέλετε (you desire)?

¹² Ὅσοι (As many as) θέλουσιν (wish) εὐπροσωπῆσαι (to have a fair appearance) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), οὗτοι (these) ἀναγκάζουσιν (compel) ὑμᾶς (you) περιτέμνεσθαι (to be circumcised), μόνον (only) ἵνα (that) τῷ (for the) σταυρῷ (cross) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) μὴ (not) διώκωνται (they might be persecuted).

⁸ Ἦτε (You were) γάρ (for) ποτε (once) σκότος (darkness); νῦν (now) δὲ (however), φῶς (light) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord); ὡς (as) τέκνα (children) φωτὸς (of light) περιπατεῖτε (walk)—

³ ἡμεῖς (We) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (are) ἡ (the) περιτομή (circumcision), οἱ (those) Πνεύματι (in the Spirit) Θεοῦ (of God) λατρεύοντες (worshiping) καὶ (and) καυχώμενοι (glorying) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (the flesh) πεποιθότες (having put confidence),

²¹ Καὶ (And) ὑμᾶς (you), ποτε (once) ὄντας (being) ἀπηλλοτριωμένους (alienated) καὶ (and) ἐχθροὺς (hostile) τῇ (-) διανοίᾳ (in mind) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἔργοις (deeds) τοῖς (-) πονηροῖς (evil),

¹¹ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (also) περιετμήθητε (you were circumcised) περιτομῇ (with the circumcision) ἀχειροποιήτῳ (made without hands), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀπεκδύσει (removal) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) περιτομῇ (circumcision) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

¹³ Καὶ (And) ὑμᾶς (you) νεκροὺς (dead) ὄντας (being) ‹ἐν› (in) τοῖς (the) παραπτώμασιν (trespasses) καὶ (and) τῇ (in the) ἀκροβυστίᾳ (uncircumcision) τῆς (of the) σαρκὸς (flesh) ὑμῶν (of you), συνεζωοποίησεν (He made alive together) ὑμᾶς (you) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him), χαρισάμενος (having forgiven) ἡμῖν (us) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) παραπτώματα (transgressions),

¹¹ ὅπου (where) οὐκ (not) ἔνι (there is) Ἕλλην (Greek) καὶ (and) Ἰουδαῖος (Jew), περιτομὴ (circumcision) καὶ (and) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision), βάρβαρος (Barbarian), Σκύθης (Scythian), δοῦλος (slave), ἐλεύθερος (free); ἀλλὰ (but) ‹τὰ› (-) πάντα (all) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all) Χριστός (Christ is).
