²⁸ Ἄγουσιν (They are leading) οὖν (then) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) Καϊάφα (Caiaphas) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πραιτώριον (Praetorium). ἦν (It was) δὲ (now) πρωΐ (early), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) οὐκ (not) εἰσῆλθον (entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πραιτώριον (Praetorium) ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) μιανθῶσιν (they should be defiled), ἀλλὰ (but) φάγωσιν (might eat) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover).

²³ Οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you), γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), ὑποκριταί (hypocrites)! ὅτι (For) ἀποδεκατοῦτε (you pay tithes of) τὸ (-) ἡδύοσμον (mint), καὶ (and) τὸ (-) ἄνηθον (dill), καὶ (and) τὸ (-) κύμινον (cumin); καὶ (and) ἀφήκατε (you have neglected) τὰ (the) βαρύτερα (weightier matters) τοῦ (of the) νόμου (law): τὴν (-) κρίσιν (justice) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) ἔλεος (mercy) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πίστιν (faithfulness). ταῦτα (These) δὲ (now) ἔδει (it behooved you) ποιῆσαι (to do), κἀκεῖνα (those) μὴ (not) ἀφιέναι* (to be leaving aside). ²⁴ ὁδηγοὶ (Guides) τυφλοί (blind)! οἱ (Those) διϋλίζοντες (straining out) τὸν (the) κώνωπα (gnat), τὴν (the) δὲ (however) κάμηλον (camel) καταπίνοντες (swallowing)! ²⁵ Οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you), γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), ὑποκριταί (hypocrites)! ὅτι (For) καθαρίζετε (you cleanse) τὸ (the) ἔξωθεν (outside) τοῦ (of the) ποτηρίου (cup) καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) παροψίδος (dish); ἔσωθεν (inside), δὲ (however), γέμουσιν (they are full) ἐξ (of) ἁρπαγῆς (greed) καὶ (and) ἀκρασίας (self-indulgence). ²⁶ Φαρισαῖε (Pharisee) τυφλέ (blind)! καθάρισον (Cleanse) πρῶτον (first) τὸ (the) ἐντὸς (inside) τοῦ (of the) ποτηρίου (cup) ‹καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) παροψίδος› (dish) ἵνα (that) γένηται (might become) καὶ (also) τὸ (the) ἐκτὸς (outside) αὐτοῦ (of them) καθαρόν (clean). ²⁷ Οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you), γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), ὑποκριταί (hypocrites)! ὅτι (For) παρομοιάζετε (you are like) τάφοις (tombs) κεκονιαμένοις (having been whitewashed), οἵτινες (which) ἔξωθεν (outwardly) μὲν (indeed) φαίνονται (appear) ὡραῖοι (beautiful). ἔσωθεν (Inside) δὲ (however) γέμουσιν (they are full) ὀστέων (of bones) νεκρῶν (of the dead), καὶ (and) πάσης (of all) ἀκαθαρσίας (impurity). ²⁸ οὕτως (Thus) καὶ (also), ὑμεῖς (you) ἔξωθεν (outwardly) μὲν (indeed) φαίνεσθε (appear) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (to men) δίκαιοι (righteous), ἔσωθεν (inwardly) δέ (however) ἐστε (you are) μεστοὶ (full) ὑποκρίσεως (of hypocrisy) καὶ (and) ἀνομίας (lawlessness).

¹ Πρωΐας (Morning) δὲ (then) γενομένης (having arrived), συμβούλιον (counsel) ἔλαβον (took) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ὥστε (so that) θανατῶσαι (they might put to death) αὐτόν (him). ² καὶ (And) δήσαντες (having bound) αὐτὸν (Him), ἀπήγαγον (they led away Him) καὶ (and) παρέδωκαν (delivered Him to) Πιλάτῳ (Pilate), τῷ (the) ἡγεμόνι (governor). ³ Τότε (Then) ἰδὼν (having seen) Ἰούδας (Judas), ὁ (the one) παραδιδοὺς* (having delivered up) αὐτὸν (Him), ὅτι (that) κατεκρίθη (He was condemned), μεταμεληθεὶς (having regretted it), ἔστρεψεν (he returned) τὰ (the) τριάκοντα (thirty) ἀργύρια (pieces of silver) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) πρεσβυτέροις (elders), ⁴ λέγων (saying), “Ἥμαρτον (I sinned), παραδοὺς (having betrayed) αἷμα (blood) ἀθῷον (innocent).” Οἱ (-) δὲ (Then) εἶπαν (they said), “Τί (What is that) πρὸς (to) ἡμᾶς (us)? σὺ (You) ὄψῃ (will see).” ⁵ Καὶ (And) ῥίψας (having cast down) τὰ (the) ἀργύρια (pieces of silver) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) ναὸν (temple), ἀνεχώρησεν (he withdrew), καὶ (and) ἀπελθὼν (having gone away), ἀπήγξατο (hanged himself). ⁶ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἀρχιερεῖς (the chief priests), λαβόντες (having taken) τὰ (the) ἀργύρια (pieces of silver), εἶπαν (said), “Οὐκ (Not) ἔξεστιν (it is lawful) βαλεῖν (to put) αὐτὰ (them) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κορβανᾶν (treasury), ἐπεὶ (since the) τιμὴ (price) αἵματός (of blood) ἐστιν (it is).” ⁷ συμβούλιον (Counsel) δὲ (then) λαβόντες (having taken), ἠγόρασαν (they bought) ἐξ (with) αὐτῶν (them) τὸν (the) ἀγρὸν (field) τοῦ (of the) κεραμέως (potter), εἰς (for) ταφὴν (a burial place) τοῖς (for the) ξένοις (strangers). ⁸ διὸ (Therefore) ἐκλήθη (was called) ὁ (the) ἀγρὸς (field) ἐκεῖνος (that), Ἀγρὸς (Field) αἵματος (of Blood), ἕως (to) τῆς (-) σήμερον (this day). ⁹ τότε (Then) ἐπληρώθη (was fulfilled) τὸ (that) ῥηθὲν (having been spoken) διὰ (by) Ἰερεμίου (Jeremiah) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet), λέγοντος (saying), “Καὶ (And) ἔλαβον (they took) τὰ (the) τριάκοντα (thirty) ἀργύρια (pieces of silver), τὴν (the) τιμὴν (price) τοῦ (of the One) τετιμημένου (having been priced), ὃν (whom) ἐτιμήσαντο (they set a price on) ἀπὸ (by the) υἱῶν (sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), ¹⁰ καὶ (and) ἔδωκαν (they gave) αὐτὰ (them) εἰς (for) τὸν (the) ἀγρὸν (field) τοῦ (of the) κεραμέως (potter), καθὰ (as) συνέταξέν (directed) μοι (me) Κύριος (the Lord).”

²⁷ Τότε (Then) οἱ (the) στρατιῶται (soldiers) τοῦ (of the) ἡγεμόνος (governor), παραλαβόντες (having taken with them) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) πραιτώριον (Praetorium), συνήγαγον (gathered) ἐπ’ (before) αὐτὸν (Him) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) σπεῖραν (cohort).

¹ Καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (early) πρωῒ (in the morning), συμβούλιον (a counsel) ποιήσαντες* (having formed) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders), καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) συνέδριον (Council), δήσαντες (having bound) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ἀπήνεγκαν (they led Him away) καὶ (and) παρέδωκαν (delivered Him) Πιλάτῳ (to Pilate). ² Καὶ (And) ἐπηρώτησεν (questioned) αὐτὸν (Him) ὁ (-) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) αὐτῷ (to him), λέγει (He says), “Σὺ (You) λέγεις (have said).” ³ Καὶ (And) κατηγόρουν (were accusing) αὐτοῦ (Him) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) πολλά (of many things). ⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) πάλιν (again) ἐπηρώτα (began to question) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγων (saying), “Οὐκ (Not) ἀποκρίνῃ (answer You) οὐδέν (nothing)? ἴδε (See) πόσα (how many things) σου (You) κατηγοροῦσιν (they testify against)!” ⁵ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὐκέτι (no longer) οὐδὲν (nothing) ἀπεκρίθη (answered), ὥστε (so as) θαυμάζειν (to amaze) τὸν (-) Πιλᾶτον (Pilate).

¹⁶ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) στρατιῶται (the soldiers) ἀπήγαγον (led away) αὐτὸν (him) ἔσω (into) τῆς (the) αὐλῆς (palace), ὅ (that) ἐστιν (is) Πραιτώριον (the Praetorium), καὶ (and) συνκαλοῦσιν (they call together) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) σπεῖραν (cohort).

⁶⁶ Καὶ (And) ὡς (when) ἐγένετο (it became) ἡμέρα (day), συνήχθη (were gathered together) τὸ (the) πρεσβυτέριον (elderhood) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people), ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) τε (both) καὶ (and) γραμματεῖς (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀπήγαγον (they led) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) συνέδριον (council) αὐτῶν (of them), λέγοντες (saying),

¹ Καὶ (And) ἀναστὰν (having risen up), ἅπαν (all) τὸ (the) πλῆθος (multitude) αὐτῶν (of them) ἤγαγον (led) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (-) Πιλᾶτον (Pilate). ² ἤρξαντο (They began) δὲ (then) κατηγορεῖν (to accuse) αὐτοῦ (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Τοῦτον (This man) εὕραμεν (we found) διαστρέφοντα (misleading) τὸ (the) ἔθνος (nation) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) κωλύοντα (forbidding) φόρους (tribute) Καίσαρι (to Caesar) διδόναι (to be given), καὶ (and) λέγοντα (declaring) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) Χριστὸν (Christ), βασιλέα (a king), εἶναι (to be).” ³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) ἠρώτησεν (questioned) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγων (saying), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) αὐτῷ (him), ἔφη (He was saying), “Σὺ (You) λέγεις (say).” ⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ὄχλους (crowds), “Οὐδὲν (Not) εὑρίσκω (find I) αἴτιον (guilt) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) τούτῳ (this).” ⁵ Οἱ (-) δὲ (But) ἐπίσχυον (they kept insisting), λέγοντες (saying) ὅτι (-), “Ἀνασείει (He stirs up) τὸν (the) λαὸν (people), διδάσκων (teaching) καθ’ (throughout) ὅλης (all) τῆς (-) Ἰουδαίας (of Judea), καὶ (and) ἀρξάμενος (He has begun) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) ἕως (even to) ὧδε (here).”

⁵⁵ Ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) ἐγγὺς (near) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), καὶ (and) ἀνέβησαν (went up) πολλοὶ (many) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) χώρας (region) πρὸ (before) τοῦ (the) πάσχα (Passover), ἵνα (so that) ἁγνίσωσιν (they might purify) ἑαυτούς (themselves).

³³ Εἰσῆλθεν (Entered) οὖν (therefore) πάλιν (again) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πραιτώριον (Praetorium) ὁ (-) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate), καὶ (and) ἐφώνησεν (he called) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)?”

³⁹ ἔστιν (It is) δὲ (however) συνήθεια (a custom) ὑμῖν (with you) ἵνα (that) ἕνα (one) ἀπολύσω (I should release) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐν (at) τῷ (the) πάσχα (Passover); βούλεσθε (wish you) οὖν (therefore) ἀπολύσω (I should release) ὑμῖν (to you) τὸν (the) Βασιλέα (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)?”

⁹ καὶ (And) εἰσῆλθεν (he went) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πραιτώριον (Praetorium) πάλιν (again), καὶ (and) λέγει (he says) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (to Jesus), “Πόθεν (From where) εἶ (are) σύ (You)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀπόκρισιν (an answer) οὐκ (not) ἔδωκεν (did give) αὐτῷ (him).

¹⁴ ἦν (It was) δὲ (now) Παρασκευὴ (the Day of Preparation) τοῦ (of the) πάσχα (Passover); ὥρα (the hour) ἦν (was) ὡς (about) ἕκτη (the sixth). καὶ (And) λέγει (he says) τοῖς (to the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews), “Ἴδε (Behold) ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (king) ὑμῶν (of you)!”

¹³ Ὁ (The) Θεὸς (God) Ἀβραὰμ (of Abraham), καὶ (and) [ὁ (the) θεὸς] (God) Ἰσαὰκ (of Isaac), καὶ (and) [ὁ (the) θεὸς] (God) Ἰακώβ (Jacob), ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) τῶν (of the) πατέρων (fathers) ἡμῶν (of us), ἐδόξασεν (has glorified) τὸν (the) Παῖδα (servant) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) μὲν (indeed) παρεδώκατε (betrayed) καὶ (and) ἠρνήσασθε (disowned) κατὰ (in) πρόσωπον (the presence) Πιλάτου (of Pilate), κρίναντος (having adjudged) ἐκείνου (that one) ἀπολύειν (to release Him).

²⁸ ἔφη (He was saying) τε (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐπίστασθε (know) ὡς (how) ἀθέμιτόν (unlawful) ἐστιν (it is) ἀνδρὶ (for a man) Ἰουδαίῳ (a Jew) κολλᾶσθαι (to unite himself) ἢ (or) προσέρχεσθαι (to come near) ἀλλοφύλῳ (to a foreigner). κἀμοὶ (To me) ὁ (however) Θεὸς (God) ἔδειξεν (has shown), μηδένα (not) κοινὸν (common) ἢ (or) ἀκάθαρτον (unclean) λέγειν (to call) ἄνθρωπον (man).

³ λέγοντες (saying) ὅτι (-), “Εἰσῆλθες (You went) πρὸς (to) ἄνδρας (men) ἀκροβυστίαν (uncircumcision) ἔχοντας (having), καὶ (and) συνέφαγες (ate with) αὐτοῖς (them).”
