³ λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter), “Ὑπάγω (I am going) ἁλιεύειν (to fish).” Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἐρχόμεθα (Come) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) σὺν (with) σοί (you).” ἐξῆλθον (They went forth) καὶ (and) ἐνέβησαν (went up) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat), καὶ (and) ἐν (during) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) νυκτὶ (night) ἐπίασαν (they caught) οὐδέν (nothing).

¹⁸ Περιπατῶν (Walking) δὲ (now) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (Sea) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (of Galilee), εἶδεν (He saw) δύο (two) ἀδελφούς (brothers), Σίμωνα (Simon) τὸν (-) λεγόμενον (called) Πέτρον (Peter), καὶ (and) Ἀνδρέαν (Andrew) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), βάλλοντας (casting) ἀμφίβληστρον (a net) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea); ἦσαν (they were) γὰρ (for) ἁλιεῖς (fishermen). ¹⁹ καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Δεῦτε (Come follow) ὀπίσω (after) μου (Me), καὶ (and) ποιήσω (I will make) ὑμᾶς (you) ἁλιεῖς (fishers) ἀνθρώπων (of men).” ²⁰ οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εὐθέως (immediately) ἀφέντες (having left) τὰ (the) δίκτυα (nets), ἠκολούθησαν (they followed) αὐτῷ (Him).

⁵ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), Σίμων (Simon) εἶπεν (said), “Ἐπιστάτα (Master), δι’ (through) ὅλης (whole) νυκτὸς (night) κοπιάσαντες (having toiled), οὐδὲν (nothing) ἐλάβομεν (have we taken); ἐπὶ (at) δὲ (however) τῷ (the) ῥήματί (word) σου (of You), χαλάσω (I will let down) τὰ (the) δίκτυα (nets).”

¹⁰ ὁμοίως (likewise) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) Ἰάκωβον (James) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννην (John), υἱοὺς (the sons) Ζεβεδαίου (of Zebedee), οἳ (who) ἦσαν (were) κοινωνοὶ (partners) τῷ (-) Σίμωνι (with Simon). Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Σίμωνα (Simon), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μὴ (Not) φοβοῦ (fear); ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) νῦν (now on) ἀνθρώπους (men) ἔσῃ (you will be) ζωγρῶν (catching).” ¹¹ καὶ (And) καταγαγόντες (having brought) τὰ (the) πλοῖα (boats) ἐπὶ (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (land), ἀφέντες (having left) πάντα (all), ἠκολούθησαν (they followed) αὐτῷ (Him).

³ καὶ (and) διὰ (due to) τὸ (of the) ὁμότεχνον (same trade) εἶναι (being), ἔμενεν (he stayed) παρ’ (with) αὐτοῖς (them) καὶ (and) ἠργάζετο* (worked); ἦσαν (they were) γὰρ (for) σκηνοποιοὶ (tentmakers) τῇ (by the) τέχνῃ (trade).

³⁴ αὐτοὶ (You yourselves) γινώσκετε (know) ὅτι (that) ταῖς (the) χρείαις (needs) μου (of me) καὶ (and) τοῖς (to those) οὖσιν (being) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (me), ὑπηρέτησαν (ministered to) αἱ (the) χεῖρες (hands) αὗται (these).

⁷ ὥστε (So) οὔτε (neither) ὁ (the one) φυτεύων (planting) ἐστίν (is) τι (anything), οὔτε (nor) ὁ (the one) ποτίζων (watering), ἀλλ’ (but only) ὁ (the One) αὐξάνων (giving growth)— Θεός (God).

⁶ ἢ (Or) μόνος (only) ἐγὼ (I) καὶ (and) Βαρνάβας (Barnabas), οὐκ (not) ἔχομεν (have we) ἐξουσίαν (authority) μὴ (not) ἐργάζεσθαι (to work)?

⁹ Μνημονεύετε (You remember) γάρ (for), ἀδελφοί (brothers), τὸν (the) κόπον (labor) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) τὸν (-) μόχθον (hardship): νυκτὸς (Night) καὶ (and) ἡμέρας (day) ἐργαζόμενοι (working), πρὸς (in order) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἐπιβαρῆσαί (to burden) τινα (anyone) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐκηρύξαμεν (we proclaimed) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁷ αὐτοὶ (Yourselves) γὰρ (for) οἴδατε (you know) πῶς (how) δεῖ (it behooves you) μιμεῖσθαι (to imitate) ἡμᾶς (us), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἠτακτήσαμεν (we were idle) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you), ⁸ οὐδὲ (nor) δωρεὰν (without payment) ἄρτον (bread) ἐφάγομεν (did we eat) παρά (from) τινος (anyone), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) κόπῳ (labor) καὶ (and) μόχθῳ (hardship), νυκτὸς (night) καὶ (and) ἡμέρας (day) ἐργαζόμενοι (working), πρὸς (in order) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἐπιβαρῆσαί (to be burdensome to) τινα (any) ὑμῶν (of you), ⁹ οὐχ (not) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) ἔχομεν (we have) ἐξουσίαν (the right), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) τύπον (as an example) δῶμεν (we may offer) ὑμῖν (to you), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) μιμεῖσθαι (you to imitate) ἡμᾶς (us).
