³⁸ ὅτι (For) καταβέβηκα (I have come down) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), οὐχ (not) ἵνα (that) ποιῶ (I should do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (of Me), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me).

²⁸ ὥσπερ (even as) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) οὐκ (not) ἦλθεν (came) διακονηθῆναι (to be served), ἀλλὰ (but) διακονῆσαι (to serve), καὶ (and) δοῦναι (to give) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λύτρον (as a ransom) ἀντὶ (for) πολλῶν (many).”

³⁹ Καὶ (And) προελθὼν (having gone forward) μικρὸν (a little), ἔπεσεν (He fell) ἐπὶ (upon) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτοῦ (of Him), προσευχόμενος (praying), καὶ (and) λέγων (saying), “Πάτερ (Father) μου (of Me), εἰ (if) δυνατόν (possible) ἐστιν (it is), παρελθάτω (let pass) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me) τὸ (the) ποτήριον (cup) τοῦτο (this). πλὴν (Nevertheless) οὐχ (not) ὡς (as) ἐγὼ (I) θέλω (will), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) σύ (You).” ⁴⁰ Καὶ (And) ἔρχεται (He comes) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) καὶ (and) εὑρίσκει (finds) αὐτοὺς (them) καθεύδοντας (sleeping). καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter), “Οὕτως (Thus) οὐκ (not) ἰσχύσατε (were you able) μίαν (one) ὥραν (hour) γρηγορῆσαι (to watch) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me)? ⁴¹ γρηγορεῖτε (Watch) καὶ (and) προσεύχεσθε (pray), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθητε (you enter) εἰς (into) πειρασμόν (temptation). τὸ (The) μὲν (indeed) πνεῦμα (spirit) πρόθυμον (is willing), ἡ (-) δὲ (but) σὰρξ (the flesh) ἀσθενής (weak).” ⁴² Πάλιν (Again) ἐκ (for) δευτέρου (a second time) ἀπελθὼν (having gone away), προσηύξατο (He prayed), λέγων (saying), “Πάτερ (Father) μου (of Me), εἰ (if) οὐ (not) δύναται (is possible) τοῦτο (this) παρελθεῖν (to pass) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) αὐτὸ (it) πίω (I drink), γενηθήτω (be done) τὸ (the) θέλημά (will) σου (of You).”

¹³ καὶ (And) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἀναβέβηκεν (has gone up) εἰς (into) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the One) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβάς (having come down), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

³¹ Ὁ (The One) ἄνωθεν (from above) ἐρχόμενος (coming), ἐπάνω (above) πάντων (all) ἐστίν (is). ὁ (The one) ὢν (being) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ἐστιν (is), καὶ (and) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) λαλεῖ (speaks). ὁ (The One) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἐρχόμενος (coming), ἐπάνω (above) πάντων (all) ἐστίν (is).

³⁴ Λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἐμὸν (My) βρῶμά (food) ἐστιν (is) ἵνα (that) ποιήσω* (I should do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me), καὶ (and) τελειώσω (should finish) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work).

³⁰ Οὐ (Not) δύναμαι (am able) ἐγὼ (I) ποιεῖν (to do) ἀπ’ (of) ἐμαυτοῦ (Myself) οὐδέν (nothing); καθὼς (as) ἀκούω (I hear), κρίνω (I judge); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κρίσις (judgment) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (of Me) δικαία (just) ἐστίν (is), ὅτι (because) οὐ (not) ζητῶ (I seek) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (of Me), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me).

³³ ὁ (The) γὰρ (for) ἄρτος (bread) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the One) καταβαίνων (coming down) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) ζωὴν (life) διδοὺς (giving) τῷ (to the) κόσμῳ (world).”

³ καὶ (Even) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) οὐχ (not) ἑαυτῷ (Himself) ἤρεσεν (pleased), ἀλλὰ (but) καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Οἱ (The) ὀνειδισμοὶ (reproaches) τῶν (of those) ὀνειδιζόντων (reproaching) σε (You) ἐπέπεσαν (have fallen) ἐπ’ (on) ἐμέ (Me).”

⁹ Τὸ (-) δὲ (And), “Ἀνέβη (He ascended),” τί (what) ἐστιν (is) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὅτι (that) καὶ (also) κατέβη (He descended) εἰς (into) τὰ (the) κατώτερα (lower) μέρη (regions) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth)?

⁷ ἀλλὰ (but) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ἐκένωσεν (emptied), μορφὴν (the form) δούλου (of a servant) λαβών (having taken), ἐν (in) ὁμοιώματι (the likeness) ἀνθρώπων (of men) γενόμενος (having been made). ⁸ καὶ (And) σχήματι (in appearance) εὑρεθεὶς (having been found) ὡς (as) ἄνθρωπος (a man), ἐταπείνωσεν (He humbled) ἑαυτὸν (Himself), γενόμενος (having become) ὑπήκοος (obedient) μέχρι (unto) θανάτου (death), θανάτου (the death) δὲ (even) σταυροῦ (of the cross).

⁸ καίπερ (though) ὢν (being) Υἱός (a Son), ἔμαθεν (He learned) ἀφ’ (from) ὧν (the things) ἔπαθεν (He suffered), τὴν (-) ὑπακοήν (obedience),

⁷ Τότε (Then) εἶπον (I said), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἥκω (I have come) — Ἐν (in) κεφαλίδι (the scroll) βιβλίου (of the book) γέγραπται (it is written) περὶ (of) ἐμοῦ (Me) — Τοῦ (-) ποιῆσαι (to do), ὁ (-) Θεός (O God), τὸ (the) θέλημά (will) σου (of You).’” ⁸ Ἀνώτερον (Above) λέγων (saying) ὅτι (-), “Θυσίας (Sacrifice), καὶ (and) προσφορὰς (offering), καὶ (and) ὁλοκαυτώματα (burnt offerings), καὶ (and) περὶ (offerings for) ἁμαρτίας (sin), οὐκ (not) ἠθέλησας (You have desired), οὐδὲ (nor) εὐδόκησας (have You delighted in),” αἵτινες (which) κατὰ (according to) νόμον (the Law) προσφέρονται (are offered); ⁹ τότε (then) εἴρηκεν (He said), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἥκω (I have come) τοῦ (-) ποιῆσαι (to do) τὸ (the) θέλημά (will) σου (of You).” ἀναιρεῖ (He takes away) τὸ (the) πρῶτον (first), ἵνα (that) τὸ (the) δεύτερον (second) στήσῃ (He might establish).
