³⁴ Ὁ (The) λύχνος (lamp) τοῦ (of your) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you). ὅταν (When) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) ἁπλοῦς (clear) ᾖ (is), καὶ (also) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) φωτεινόν (light) ἐστιν (is); ἐπὰν (when) δὲ (however) πονηρὸς (evil) ᾖ (it be), καὶ (also) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) σκοτεινόν (is dark).

²² Ὁ (The) λύχνος (lamp) τοῦ (of the) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye). ἐὰν (If) οὖν (therefore) ᾖ (is) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) ἁπλοῦς (clear), ὅλον (the whole) τὸ (-) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) φωτεινὸν (full of light) ἔσται (will be). ²³ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) πονηρὸς (evil) ᾖ (is), ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) σκοτεινὸν (full of darkness) ἔσται (will be). εἰ (If) οὖν (then) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τὸ (that is) ἐν (within) σοὶ (you) σκότος (darkness) ἐστίν (is), τὸ (that) σκότος (darkness) πόσον (how great)!

¹² ἵνα (so that), ‘Βλέποντες (Seeing), βλέπωσιν (they might see) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἴδωσιν (perceive); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), ἀκούωσιν (they might hear) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) συνιῶσιν (understand); Μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) ἐπιστρέψωσιν (they should turn), Καὶ (and) ἀφεθῇ (should be forgiven) αὐτοῖς (them).’”

²² πλεονεξίαι (covetous desires), πονηρίαι (wickednesses), δόλος (deceit), ἀσέλγεια (sensuality), ὀφθαλμὸς (an eye) πονηρός (evil), βλασφημία (slander), ὑπερηφανία (pride), ἀφροσύνη (foolishness).

¹⁸ ‘Ὀφθαλμοὺς (Eyes) ἔχοντες (having), οὐ (not) βλέπετε (do you see)? καὶ (And) ὦτα (ears) ἔχοντες (having), οὐκ (not) ἀκούετε (do you hear)?’ καὶ (And) οὐ (not) μνημονεύετε (do you remember)?

⁴⁶ Καθ’ (Every) ἡμέραν (day) τε (and) προσκαρτεροῦντες (steadfastly continuing) ὁμοθυμαδὸν (with one accord) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), κλῶντές (breaking) τε (then) κατ’ (at each) οἶκον (house) ἄρτον (bread), μετελάμβανον (they were partaking) τροφῆς (of food) ἐν (with) ἀγαλλιάσει (gladness) καὶ (and) ἀφελότητι (sincerity) καρδίας (of heart),

¹¹ καὶ (And) νῦν (now) ἰδοὺ (behold), χεὶρ (the hand) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐπὶ (is upon) σέ (you), καὶ (and) ἔσῃ (you will be) τυφλὸς (blind), μὴ (not) βλέπων (seeing) τὸν (the) ἥλιον (sun) ἄχρι (during) καιροῦ (a season).” παραχρῆμα (Immediately) δὲ (then) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτὸν (him) ἀχλὺς (mist) καὶ (and) σκότος (darkness), καὶ (and) περιάγων (going about) ἐζήτει (he was seeking) χειραγωγούς (someone to lead him by the hand).

¹⁸ ἀνοῖξαι (to open) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), τοῦ (that) ἐπιστρέψαι (they may turn) ἀπὸ (from) σκότους (darkness) εἰς (to) φῶς (light), καὶ (and) τῆς (from the) ἐξουσίας (power) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), τοῦ (that) λαβεῖν (may receive) αὐτοὺς (they) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) καὶ (and) κλῆρον (an inheritance) ἐν (among) τοῖς (those) ἡγιασμένοις (having been sanctified) πίστει (by faith) τῇ (that is) εἰς (in) ἐμέ (Me).’

⁸ καθὼς* (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ἔδωκεν (Gave) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) πνεῦμα (a spirit) κατανύξεως (of stupor), ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) τοῦ (-) μὴ (not) βλέπειν (to see), καὶ (and) ὦτα (ears) τοῦ (-) μὴ (not) ἀκούειν (to hear), ἕως (unto) τῆς (the) σήμερον (today) ἡμέρας (day).” ⁹ Καὶ (And) Δαυὶδ (David) λέγει (says): “Γενηθήτω (Let be) ἡ (the) τράπεζα (table) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (for) παγίδα (a snare) καὶ (and) εἰς (for) θήραν (a trap), καὶ (and) εἰς (for) σκάνδαλον (a stumbling block) καὶ (and) εἰς (for) ἀνταπόδομα (a retribution) αὐτοῖς (to them); ¹⁰ σκοτισθήτωσαν (let be darkened) οἱ (the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), τοῦ (-) μὴ (not) βλέπειν (to see), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) νῶτον (backs) αὐτῶν (of them), διὰ (for) παντὸς (ever) σύνκαμψον (bent over).”

¹² Ἡ (-) γὰρ (For) καύχησις (the boasting) ἡμῶν (of us) αὕτη (this) ἐστίν (is), τὸ (the) μαρτύριον (testimony) τῆς (of the) συνειδήσεως (conscience) ἡμῶν (of us), ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) ἁγιότητι (the holiness) καὶ (and) εἰλικρινείᾳ (sincerity) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), [καὶ] (and) οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) σαρκικῇ (fleshly), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) χάριτι (the grace) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀνεστράφημεν (we have conducted ourselves) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world), περισσοτέρως (more abundantly) δὲ (now) πρὸς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you).

⁴ ἐν (in) οἷς (whom) ὁ (the) θεὸς (god) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age) τούτου (this) ἐτύφλωσεν (has blinded) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) τῶν (of the) ἀπίστων (unbelieving), εἰς (so as for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) αὐγάσαι (to beam forth) τὸν (the) φωτισμὸν (illumination) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰκὼν (the image) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

³ Φοβοῦμαι (I am afraid) δὲ (however), μή (lest) πως (by any means) ὡς (as) ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ἐξηπάτησεν (deceived) Εὕαν (Eve) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πανουργίᾳ (craftiness) αὐτοῦ (of him), φθαρῇ (might be corrupted) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) ὑμῶν (of you) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἁπλότητος (simplicity) καὶ (and) τῆς (the) ἁγνότητος (purity) τῆς (-) εἰς (in) ‹τὸν› (-) Χριστόν (Christ).

¹⁷ ἵνα (that) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory), δώῃ (may give) ὑμῖν (to you) πνεῦμα (a spirit) σοφίας (of wisdom) καὶ (and) ἀποκαλύψεως (revelation) ἐν (in) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

⁵ Οἱ (-) δοῦλοι (Slaves), ὑπακούετε (obey) τοῖς (the) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh) κυρίοις (masters) μετὰ (with) φόβου (fear) καὶ (and) τρόμου (trembling), ἐν (in) ἁπλότητι (sincerity) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) ὑμῶν (of you), ὡς (as) τῷ (to) Χριστῷ (Christ),

²² Οἱ (-) δοῦλοι (Slaves), ὑπακούετε (obey) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things) τοῖς (the) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh) κυρίοις (masters), μὴ (not) ἐν (with) ὀφθαλμοδουλίαις (eye-services) ὡς (as) ἀνθρωπάρεσκοι (men-pleasers), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) ἁπλότητι (sincerity) καρδίας (of heart), φοβούμενοι (fearing) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord).

⁹ οὗ (whose) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (-) παρουσία (coming), κατ’ (according to) ἐνέργειαν (the working) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) δυνάμει (power), καὶ (and) σημείοις (in signs), καὶ (and) τέρασιν (in wonders) ψεύδους (of falsehood), ¹⁰ καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) ἀπάτῃ (deceit) ἀδικίας (of wickedness) τοῖς (unto those) ἀπολλυμένοις (perishing), ἀνθ’ (in return for) ὧν (which) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) οὐκ (not) ἐδέξαντο (they received), εἰς (in order for) τὸ (-) σωθῆναι (to be saved) αὐτούς (them). ¹¹ καὶ (And) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this), πέμπει (will send) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐνέργειαν (a working) πλάνης (of delusion), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) πιστεῦσαι (to believe) αὐτοὺς (them) τῷ (what) ψεύδει (is false), ¹² ἵνα (in order that) κριθῶσιν (should be judged) πάντες (all) οἱ (those) μὴ (not) πιστεύσαντες (having believed) τῇ (the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), ἀλλὰ (but) εὐδοκήσαντες (having delighted) τῇ (-) ἀδικίᾳ (in unrighteousness).
