⁷ λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οὕτως (in the same way) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven) ἔσται (there will be) ἐπὶ (over) ἑνὶ (one) ἁμαρτωλῷ (sinner) μετανοοῦντι (repenting), ἢ (rather than) ἐπὶ (over) ἐνενήκοντα (ninety) ἐννέα (nine) δικαίοις (righteous ones), οἵτινες (who) οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) ἔχουσιν (have) μετανοίας (of repentance).

¹³ καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) γένηται (he should) εὑρεῖν (find) αὐτό (it), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) χαίρει (he rejoices) ἐπ’ (over) αὐτῷ (it) μᾶλλον (more) ἢ (than) ἐπὶ (over) τοῖς (the) ἐνενήκοντα (ninety) ἐννέα (nine) τοῖς (-) μὴ (not) πεπλανημένοις (having gone astray).

³² οὐκ (Not) ἐλήλυθα (I have come) καλέσαι (to call) δικαίους (righteous ones), ἀλλὰ (but) ἁμαρτωλοὺς (sinners), εἰς (to) μετάνοιαν (repentance).”

¹⁰ οὕτως (Thus) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), γίνεται (there is) χαρὰ (joy) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐπὶ (over) ἑνὶ (one) ἁμαρτωλῷ (sinner) μετανοοῦντι (repenting).”

²⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (he said) τῷ (to) πατρὶ (the father) ‹αὐτοῦ› (of him), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold), τοσαῦτα (so many) ἔτη (years) δουλεύω (I serve) σοι (you), καὶ (and) οὐδέποτε (never) ἐντολήν (a commandment) σου (of you) παρῆλθον (I disobeyed), καὶ (and) ἐμοὶ (to me) οὐδέποτε (never) ἔδωκας (did you give) ἔριφον (a young goat), ἵνα (that) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) φίλων (friends) μου (of me) εὐφρανθῶ (I might make merry).

³² εὐφρανθῆναι (To make merry) δὲ (however) καὶ (and) χαρῆναι (to rejoice) ἔδει (it was fitting), ὅτι (because) ὁ (the) ἀδελφός (brother) σου (of you) οὗτος (this), νεκρὸς (dead) ἦν (was), καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (is alive again); καὶ (and) ἀπολωλὼς (he was lost), καὶ (and) εὑρέθη (is found).’”

¹⁵ καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐστε (are) οἱ (those) δικαιοῦντες (justifying) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (men), ὁ (-) δὲ (but) Θεὸς (God) γινώσκει (knows) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you); ὅτι (for) τὸ (that which) ἐν (among) ἀνθρώποις (men) ὑψηλὸν (is exalted) βδέλυγμα (is an abomination) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

⁹ Εἶπεν (He spoke) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) πρός (to) τινας (some) τοὺς (-) πεποιθότας (trusting) ἐφ’ (in) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves) ὅτι (that) εἰσὶν (they are) δίκαιοι (righteous), καὶ (and) ἐξουθενοῦντας (despising) τοὺς (the) λοιποὺς (others), τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this): ¹⁰ “Ἄνθρωποι (Men) δύο (two) ἀνέβησαν (went up) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple) προσεύξασθαι (to pray), ὁ (the) εἷς (one) Φαρισαῖος (a Pharisee), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἕτερος (other) τελώνης (a tax collector). ¹¹ ὁ (The) Φαρισαῖος (Pharisee), σταθεὶς (having stood), ταῦτα (thus) «πρὸς (toward) ἑαυτὸν» (himself) προσηύχετο (was praying), Ὁ (-) ‘Θεός (God), εὐχαριστῶ (I thank) σοι (You) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (I am) ὥσπερ (like) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) ἀνθρώπων (men) — ἅρπαγες (swindlers), ἄδικοι (unrighteous), μοιχοί (adulterers) — ἢ (or) καὶ (even) ὡς (like) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) τελώνης (tax collector).

⁹ Ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) ἔζων (was alive) χωρὶς (apart from) νόμου (law) ποτέ (once); ἐλθούσης (having come) δὲ (however) τῆς (the) ἐντολῆς (commandment), ἡ (the) ἁμαρτία (sin) ἀνέζησεν (revived); ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (then) ἀπέθανον (died).

⁶ κατὰ (according to) ζῆλος (zeal), διώκων (persecuting) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church); κατὰ (according to) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) τὴν (which is) ἐν (in) νόμῳ (the Law), γενόμενος (having become) ἄμεμπτος (faultless). ⁷ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἅτινα (whatever things) ἦν (were) μοι (to me) κέρδη (gain), ταῦτα (these) ἥγημαι (I have esteemed), διὰ (because of) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ), ζημίαν (loss).
