² καὶ (And) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) τὸ (-) πῶς (how) ἀνέλωσιν (they might put to death) αὐτόν (him); ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid) γὰρ (for) τὸν (of the) λαόν (people).

¹⁴ ἐξελθόντες (Having gone out) δὲ (now), οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) συμβούλιον (a counsel) ἔλαβον (held) κατ’ (against) αὐτοῦ (Him), ὅπως (how) αὐτὸν (Him) ἀπολέσωσιν (they might destroy).

³⁸ Οἱ (-) δὲ (But) γεωργοὶ (the farmers) ἰδόντες (having seen) τὸν (the) υἱὸν (son), εἶπον (said) ἐν (among) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), ‘Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) κληρονόμος (heir); δεῦτε (come), ἀποκτείνωμεν (let us kill) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) σχῶμεν (gain possession of) τὴν (the) κληρονομίαν (inheritance) αὐτοῦ (of him).’

⁴⁵ Καὶ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) τὰς (the) παραβολὰς (parables) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἔγνωσαν (they knew) ὅτι (that) περὶ (about) αὐτῶν (them) λέγει (He speaks). ⁴⁶ καὶ (And) ζητοῦντες (seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) κρατῆσαι (to lay hold of), ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) τοὺς (the) ὄχλους (crowds), ἐπεὶ (because) εἰς (as) προφήτην (a prophet) αὐτὸν (Him) εἶχον (they were holding).

³ Τότε (Then) συνήχθησαν (were gathered together) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) εἰς (in) τὴν (the) αὐλὴν (courtyard) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest), τοῦ (who) λεγομένου (is called) Καϊάφα (Caiaphas), ⁴ καὶ (and) συνεβουλεύσαντο (they plotted together), ἵνα (in order that) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) δόλῳ (by guile) κρατήσωσιν (they might seize) καὶ (and) ἀποκτείνωσιν (kill). ⁵ ἔλεγον (They were saying) δέ (however), “Μὴ (Not) ἐν (during) τῇ (the) ἑορτῇ (feast), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) θόρυβος (a riot) γένηται (there be) ἐν (among) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people).”

⁴⁷ Καὶ (And) ἦν (He was) διδάσκων (teaching) τὸ (-) καθ’ (every) ἡμέραν (day) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple); οἱ (the) δὲ (however) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) ἀπολέσαι (to destroy), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρῶτοι (foremost) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people). ⁴⁸ καὶ (And) οὐχ (not) εὕρισκον (they found) τὸ (-) τί (what) ποιήσωσιν (they might do); ὁ (the) λαὸς (people) γὰρ (for) ἅπας (all) ἐξεκρέματο* (were hanging on) αὐτοῦ (His words), ἀκούων (listening).

¹⁹ Καὶ (And) ἐζήτησαν (sought) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) ἐπιβαλεῖν (to lay) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτὸν (Him) τὰς (-) χεῖρας (hands) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (that) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour); καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) τὸν (the) λαόν (people); ἔγνωσαν (they perceived) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) πρὸς (against) αὐτοὺς (them) εἶπεν (He was speaking) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this).

⁴⁷ Συνήγαγον (Gathered) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) συνέδριον (a council), καὶ (and) ἔλεγον (they were saying), “Τί (What) ποιοῦμεν (are we to do)? ὅτι (For) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) ἄνθρωπος (man) πολλὰ (many) ποιεῖ (does) σημεῖα (signs). ⁴⁸ ἐὰν (If) ἀφῶμεν (we shall let him alone) αὐτὸν (Him) οὕτως (like this), πάντες (all) πιστεύσουσιν (will believe) εἰς (in) αὐτόν (Him), καὶ (and) ἐλεύσονται (will come) οἱ (the) Ῥωμαῖοι (Romans) καὶ (and) ἀροῦσιν (will take away) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (both) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ἔθνος (nation).” ⁴⁹ Εἷς (One) δέ (however) τις (certain) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them), Καϊάφας (Caiaphas), ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) ὢν (being) τοῦ (the) ἐνιαυτοῦ (year) ἐκείνου (same), εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμεῖς (You) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know) οὐδέν (nothing), ⁵⁰ οὐδὲ (nor) λογίζεσθε (consider you) ὅτι (that) συμφέρει (it is profitable) ὑμῖν (for you) ἵνα (that) εἷς (one) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἀποθάνῃ (should die) ὑπὲρ (for) τοῦ (the) λαοῦ (people), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) ἔθνος (nation) ἀπόληται (should perish).” ⁵¹ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (now) ἀφ’ (from) ἑαυτοῦ (himself) οὐκ (not) εἶπεν (he said), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) ὢν (being) τοῦ (the) ἐνιαυτοῦ (year) ἐκείνου (that), ἐπροφήτευσεν (he prophesied) ὅτι (that) ἔμελλεν (was about) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀποθνήσκειν (to die) ὑπὲρ (for) τοῦ (the) ἔθνους (nation), ⁵² καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) ὑπὲρ (for) τοῦ (the) ἔθνους (nation) μόνον (only), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὰ (those) διεσκορπισμένα (having been scattered), συναγάγῃ (He might gather together) εἰς (into) ἕν (one). ⁵³ Ἀπ’ (From) ἐκείνης (that) οὖν (therefore) τῆς (-) ἡμέρας (day) ἐβουλεύσαντο (they took counsel together) ἵνα (that) ἀποκτείνωσιν (they might kill) αὐτόν (Him).

⁵⁷ δεδώκεισαν (Had given) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) ἐντολὰς (a command) ἵνα (that) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) γνῷ (should know) ποῦ (where) ἐστιν (He is), μηνύσῃ (he should show it), ὅπως (so that) πιάσωσιν (they might seize) αὐτόν (Him).
