³⁶ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἀλλὰ (But) νῦν (now) ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) βαλλάντιον (a purse), ἀράτω (let him take it); ὁμοίως (likewise) καὶ (also) πήραν (a bag); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) μὴ (not) ἔχων (having), πωλησάτω (let him sell) τὸ (the) ἱμάτιον (cloak) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) ἀγορασάτω (buy one) μάχαιραν (a sword).

²² καὶ (And) ἔσεσθε (you will be) μισούμενοι (hated) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all) διὰ (on account of) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ὑπομείνας (having endured) εἰς (to) τέλος (the end), οὗτος (he) σωθήσεται (will be saved). ²³ Ὅταν (Whenever) δὲ (then) διώκωσιν (they persecute) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πόλει (city) ταύτῃ (one), φεύγετε (flee) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ἑτέραν (next). ἀμὴν (Truly) γὰρ (for) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) τελέσητε (shall you have completed) τὰς (the) πόλεις (cities) τοῦ (of) Ἰσραὴλ (Israel) ἕως (until) ‹ἂν› (-) ἔλθῃ (be come) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of) ἀνθρώπου (Man). ²⁴ Οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (is) μαθητὴς (a disciple) ὑπὲρ (above) τὸν (the) διδάσκαλον (teacher), οὐδὲ (nor) δοῦλος (a servant) ὑπὲρ (above) τὸν (the) κύριον (master) αὐτοῦ (of him). ²⁵ ἀρκετὸν (It is sufficient) τῷ (for the) μαθητῇ (disciple) ἵνα (that) γένηται (he become) ὡς (as) ὁ (the) διδάσκαλος (teacher) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) δοῦλος (servant) ὡς (as) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) αὐτοῦ (of him). εἰ (If) τὸν (the) οἰκοδεσπότην (master of the house) Βεελζεβοὺλ (Beelzebul) ἐπεκάλεσαν (they called), πόσῳ (how much) μᾶλλον (more) τοὺς (those) οἰκιακοὺς (house members) αὐτοῦ (of him)!

²⁰ Μνημονεύετε (Remember) τοῦ (the) λόγου (word) οὗ (that) ἐγὼ (I) εἶπον (said) ὑμῖν (to you): ‘Οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (is) δοῦλος (a servant) μείζων (greater than) τοῦ (the) κυρίου (master) αὐτοῦ (of him).’ εἰ (If) ἐμὲ (Me) ἐδίωξαν (they persecuted), καὶ (also) ὑμᾶς (you) διώξουσιν (they will persecute); εἰ (if) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) μου (of Me) ἐτήρησαν (they kept), καὶ (also) τὸν (-) ὑμέτερον (yours) τηρήσουσιν (they will keep).

³³ ταῦτα (These things) λελάληκα (I have spoken) ὑμῖν (to you) ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) εἰρήνην (peace) ἔχητε (you may have). ἐν (In) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) θλῖψιν (tribulation) ἔχετε (you have). ἀλλὰ (But) θαρσεῖτε (take courage); ἐγὼ (I) νενίκηκα (have overcome) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world).”

¹⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) γὰρ (for) μιμηταὶ (imitators) ἐγενήθητε (became), ἀδελφοί (brothers), τῶν (of the) ἐκκλησιῶν (churches) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τῶν (-) οὐσῶν (being) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ὅτι (For) τὰ (the same) αὐτὰ (as them), ἐπάθετε (suffered) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ὑπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἰδίων (own) συμφυλετῶν (countrymen), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also did) αὐτοὶ (they) ὑπὸ (from) τῶν (the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), ¹⁵ τῶν (who) καὶ (both) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) ἀποκτεινάντων (having killed), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), καὶ (and) τοὺς (their own) προφήτας (prophets), καὶ (and) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐκδιωξάντων (having driven out), καὶ (and) Θεῷ (God) μὴ (not) ἀρεσκόντων (pleasing), καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (all) ἀνθρώποις (men) ἐναντίων (who are set against),

⁴ καὶ (And) γὰρ (indeed), ὅτε (when) πρὸς (with) ὑμᾶς (you) ἦμεν (we were), προελέγομεν (we were telling beforehand) ὑμῖν (you) ὅτι (that) μέλλομεν (we are about) θλίβεσθαι (to suffer affliction), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ἐγένετο (it came to pass), καὶ (and) οἴδατε (you know).

¹ Χριστοῦ (Christ) οὖν (therefore) παθόντος (having suffered) σαρκὶ (in the flesh), καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) τὴν (the) αὐτὴν (same) ἔννοιαν (mind) ὁπλίσασθε (arm yourselves with), ὅτι (because) ὁ (the one) παθὼν (having suffered) σαρκὶ (in the flesh) πέπαυται (is done with) ἁμαρτίας (sin),
