⁵³ καθ’ (Every) ἡμέραν (day) ὄντος (being) μου (of Me) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), οὐκ (not) ἐξετείνατε (did you stretch out) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) ἐπ’ (against) ἐμέ (Me); ἀλλ’ (but) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ὑμῶν (of you) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἐξουσία (power) τοῦ (of the) σκότους (darkness).”

¹² Καὶ (And) εἰσῆλθεν (entered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερόν (temple) καὶ (and) ἐξέβαλεν (cast out) πάντας (all) τοὺς (those) πωλοῦντας (selling) καὶ (and) ἀγοράζοντας (buying) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) τραπέζας (tables) τῶν (of the) κολλυβιστῶν (money changers) κατέστρεψεν (He overturned), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) καθέδρας (seats) τῶν (of those) πωλούντων (selling) τὰς (the) περιστεράς (doves). ¹³ καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Γέγραπται (It has been written): ‘Ὁ (The) οἶκός (house) μου (of Me) οἶκος (a house) προσευχῆς (of prayer) κληθήσεται (will be called).’ ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) αὐτὸν (it) ποιεῖτε (have made) ‘Σπήλαιον (a den) λῃστῶν (of robbers).’” ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) τυφλοὶ (blind) καὶ (and) χωλοὶ (lame) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), καὶ (and) ἐθεράπευσεν (He healed) αὐτούς (them). ¹⁵ ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) τὰ (the) θαυμάσια (wonders) ἃ (that) ἐποίησεν (He did) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) παῖδας (children) τοὺς (the) κράζοντας (crying out) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) καὶ (and) λέγοντας (saying), “Ὡσαννὰ (Hosanna) τῷ (to the) υἱῷ (Son) Δαυίδ (of David),” ἠγανάκτησαν (they were indignant)

²³ Καὶ (And) ἐλθόντος (having come) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple), προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) διδάσκοντι (teaching), οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἐν (By) ποίᾳ (what) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority) ταῦτα (these things) ποιεῖς (are You doing)? καὶ (And) τίς (who) σοι (to You) ἔδωκεν (gave) τὴν (the) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ταύτην (this)?”

⁴⁵ Καὶ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) τὰς (the) παραβολὰς (parables) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἔγνωσαν (they knew) ὅτι (that) περὶ (about) αὐτῶν (them) λέγει (He speaks). ⁴⁶ καὶ (And) ζητοῦντες (seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) κρατῆσαι (to lay hold of), ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) τοὺς (the) ὄχλους (crowds), ἐπεὶ (because) εἰς (as) προφήτην (a prophet) αὐτὸν (Him) εἶχον (they were holding).

³⁷ Ἦν (He was) δὲ (now) τὰς (during the) ἡμέρας (day) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) διδάσκων (teaching), τὰς (-) δὲ (and) νύκτας (the evening) ἐξερχόμενος (going out), ηὐλίζετο (He was lodging) εἰς (on) τὸ (the) ὄρος (mount) τὸ (-) καλούμενον (called) Ἐλαιῶν (Olivet). ³⁸ καὶ (And) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) λαὸς (people) ὤρθριζεν (would come early in the morning) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) ἀκούειν (to hear) αὐτοῦ (Him).

²⁵ Ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) τινες (some) ἐκ (of) τῶν (those) Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν (of Jerusalem), “Οὐχ (Not) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is he) ὃν (whom) ζητοῦσιν (they seek) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill)? ²⁶ καὶ (And) ἴδε (behold), παρρησίᾳ (publicly) λαλεῖ (He speaks), καὶ (and) οὐδὲν (nothing) αὐτῷ (to Him) λέγουσιν (they say) Μή‿ (not) ποτε (ever). ἀληθῶς (Truly) ἔγνωσαν (have recognized) οἱ (the) ἄρχοντες (rulers) ὅτι (that) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ)?

³⁰ Ἐζήτουν (They were seeking) οὖν (therefore) αὐτὸν (Him) πιάσαι (to take), καὶ (but) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἐπέβαλεν (laid) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτὸν (Him) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand), ὅτι (because) οὔπω (not yet) ἐληλύθει (had come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁴⁵ Ἦλθον (Came) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) ὑπηρέται (officers) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) Φαρισαίους (Pharisees), καὶ (and) εἶπον (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐκεῖνοι (that), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) οὐκ (not) ἠγάγετε (did you bring) αὐτόν (Him)?”

²⁷ Νῦν (Now) ἡ (the) ψυχή (soul) μου (of Me) τετάρακται (has been troubled), καὶ (and) τί (what) εἴπω (shall I say)? ‘Πάτερ (Father), σῶσόν (save) με (Me) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour) ταύτης (this).’ ἀλλὰ (But) διὰ (on account of) τοῦτο (this) ἦλθον (I came) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ὥραν (hour) ταύτην (this).

³⁰ Οὐκέτι (No longer) πολλὰ (much) λαλήσω (I will speak) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you); ἔρχεται (comes) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) τοῦ (of this) κόσμου (world) ἄρχων (ruler), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (he has) οὐδέν (nothing);

²⁰ ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) κλαύσετε (will weep) καὶ (and) θρηνήσετε (will lament) ὑμεῖς (you), ὁ (-) δὲ (but) κόσμος (the world) χαρήσεται (will rejoice). ὑμεῖς (You) λυπηθήσεσθε (will be grieved), ἀλλ’ (but) ἡ (the) λύπη (grief) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) χαρὰν (joy) γενήσεται (will turn). ²¹ ἡ (The) γυνὴ (woman) ὅταν (when) τίκτῃ (she is giving birth), λύπην (pain) ἔχει (has), ὅτι (because) ἦλθεν (has come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) αὐτῆς (of her); ὅταν (when) δὲ (however) γεννήσῃ (she brings forth) τὸ (the) παιδίον (child), οὐκέτι (no longer) μνημονεύει (she remembers) τῆς (the) θλίψεως (tribulation), διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) χαρὰν (joy) ὅτι (that) ἐγεννήθη (has been born) ἄνθρωπος (a man) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world). ²² καὶ (Also) ὑμεῖς (you) οὖν (therefore), νῦν (now) μὲν (indeed) λύπην (grief) ἔχετε (have); πάλιν (again) δὲ (however) ὄψομαι (I will see) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) χαρήσεται (will rejoice) ὑμῶν (your) ἡ (-) καρδία (heart), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) χαρὰν (joy) ὑμῶν (of you) οὐδεὶς (no one) αἴρει (will take) ἀφ’ (from) ὑμῶν (you).

¹⁸ ἀνοῖξαι (to open) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), τοῦ (that) ἐπιστρέψαι (they may turn) ἀπὸ (from) σκότους (darkness) εἰς (to) φῶς (light), καὶ (and) τῆς (from the) ἐξουσίας (power) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), τοῦ (that) λαβεῖν (may receive) αὐτοὺς (they) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) καὶ (and) κλῆρον (an inheritance) ἐν (among) τοῖς (those) ἡγιασμένοις (having been sanctified) πίστει (by faith) τῇ (that is) εἰς (in) ἐμέ (Me).’

³ Εἰ (If) δὲ (however) καὶ (indeed) ἔστιν (is) κεκαλυμμένον (concealed) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) ἡμῶν (of us), ἐν (to) τοῖς (those who) ἀπολλυμένοις (are perishing) ἐστὶν (it is) κεκαλυμμένον (concealed), ⁴ ἐν (in) οἷς (whom) ὁ (the) θεὸς (god) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age) τούτου (this) ἐτύφλωσεν (has blinded) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) τῶν (of the) ἀπίστων (unbelieving), εἰς (so as for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) αὐγάσαι (to beam forth) τὸν (the) φωτισμὸν (illumination) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰκὼν (the image) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ⁵ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) κηρύσσομεν (do we proclaim), ἀλλὰ (but) Χριστὸν (Christ) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Κύριον (Lord); ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) δὲ (now), δούλους (servants) ὑμῶν (of you), διὰ (for the sake of) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus). ⁶ ὅτι (For it is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὁ (-) εἰπών (having said), “Ἐκ (Out of) σκότους (darkness) φῶς (light) λάμψει (shall shine),” ὃς (who) ἔλαμψεν (shone) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us) πρὸς (for the) φωτισμὸν (radiance) τῆς (of the) γνώσεως (knowledge) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) προσώπῳ (the face) [Ἰησοῦ] (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

¹² ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἡμῖν (to us) ἡ (the) πάλη (wrestling) πρὸς (against) αἷμα (blood) καὶ (and) σάρκα (flesh), ἀλλὰ (but) πρὸς (against) τὰς (the) ἀρχάς (rulers), πρὸς (against) τὰς (the) ἐξουσίας (authorities), πρὸς (against) τοὺς (the) κοσμοκράτορας (cosmic powers) τοῦ (of the) σκότους (darkness) τούτου (this), πρὸς (against) τὰ (the) πνευματικὰ (spiritual forces) τῆς (-) πονηρίας (of evil) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms).

¹³ ὃς (who) ἐρρύσατο (has delivered) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) ἐξουσίας (dominion) τοῦ (-) σκότους (of darkness) καὶ (and) μετέστησεν (transferred us) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τῆς (-) ἀγάπης (beloved) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

⁹ καὶ (And) ἐβλήθη (was thrown out) ὁ (the) δράκων (dragon) ὁ (-) μέγας (great), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὁ (who) καλούμενος (is called) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), ὁ (-) πλανῶν (deceiving) τὴν (the) οἰκουμένην (inhabited world) ὅλην (whole). ἐβλήθη (He was thrown down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) αὐτοῦ (of him) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ἐβλήθησαν (were thrown down). ¹⁰ Καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνὴν (a voice) μεγάλην (great) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), λέγουσαν (saying): “Ἄρτι (Now) ἐγένετο (have come) ἡ (the) σωτηρία (salvation), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἐξουσία (authority) τοῦ (the) Χριστοῦ (Christ) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ὅτι (because) ἐβλήθη (has been thrown down) ὁ (the) κατήγωρ (accuser) τῶν (of the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) ἡμῶν (of us), ὁ (the one) κατηγορῶν (accusing) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτός (night). ¹¹ καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) ἐνίκησαν (have overcome) αὐτὸν (him) διὰ (by reason) τὸ (of the) αἷμα (blood) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb), καὶ (and) διὰ (by reason of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τῆς (of the) μαρτυρίας (testimony) αὐτῶν (of them); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἠγάπησαν (they have loved) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτῶν (of them) ἄχρι (unto) θανάτου (death). ¹² διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), εὐφραίνεσθε (rejoice) ‹οἱ› (O) οὐρανοὶ (heavens), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them) σκηνοῦντες (dwelling)! οὐαὶ (Woe to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), ὅτι (because) κατέβη (has come down) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you), ἔχων (having) θυμὸν (fury) μέγαν (great), εἰδὼς (knowing) ὅτι (that) ὀλίγον (a short) καιρὸν (time) ἔχει (he has).”
