³⁵ Πλὴν (But) ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) ἀγαθοποιεῖτε (do good), καὶ (and) δανίζετε (lend), μηδὲν (nothing) ἀπελπίζοντες (expecting in return), καὶ (and) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) μισθὸς (reward) ὑμῶν (of you) πολύς (great), καὶ (and) ἔσεσθε (you will be) υἱοὶ (sons of) Ὑψίστου (the Most High); ὅτι (for) αὐτὸς (He) χρηστός (kind) ἐστιν (is) ἐπὶ (to) τοὺς (the) ἀχαρίστους (ungrateful) καὶ (and) πονηρούς (evil).

⁴⁴ ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) λέγω (say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) προσεύχεσθε (pray) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (those) διωκόντων (persecuting) ὑμᾶς (you), ⁴⁵ ὅπως (so that) γένησθε (you may be) υἱοὶ (sons) τοῦ (of the) Πατρὸς (Father) ὑμῶν (of you) τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens). ὅτι (For) τὸν (the) ἥλιον (sun) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀνατέλλει (He makes rise) ἐπὶ (on) πονηροὺς (evil) καὶ (and) ἀγαθοὺς (good), καὶ (and) βρέχει (He sends rain) ἐπὶ (on) δικαίους (righteous) καὶ (and) ἀδίκους (unrighteous).

⁷ καὶ (And) κράξας (having cried) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), λέγει (he said), “Τί (What) ἐμοὶ (to me) καὶ (and) σοί (to You), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), Υἱὲ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τοῦ (the) Ὑψίστου (Most High)? ὁρκίζω (I adjure) σε (You) τὸν (-) Θεόν (by God), μή (not) με (me) βασανίσῃς (torment).”

³² οὗτος (He) ἔσται (will be) μέγας (great), καὶ (and) Υἱὸς (Son) Ὑψίστου (of the Most High) κληθήσεται (He will be called); καὶ (and) δώσει (will give) αὐτῷ (Him) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸν (the) θρόνον (throne) Δαυὶδ (of David), τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) αὐτοῦ (of Him);

²⁷ Ἀλλὰ (But) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγω (I say), τοῖς (to those) ἀκούουσιν (hearing): Ἀγαπᾶτε (Love) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑμῶν (of you), καλῶς (good) ποιεῖτε (do) τοῖς (to those) μισοῦσιν (hating) ὑμᾶς (you), ²⁸ εὐλογεῖτε (bless) τοὺς (those) καταρωμένους (cursing) ὑμᾶς (you), προσεύχεσθε (pray) περὶ (for) τῶν (those) ἐπηρεαζόντων (mistreating) ὑμᾶς (you). ²⁹ τῷ (To the one) τύπτοντί (striking) σε (you) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) σιαγόνα (cheek), πάρεχε (offer) καὶ (also) τὴν (the) ἄλλην (other); καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the one) αἴροντός (taking away) σου (your) τὸ (-) ἱμάτιον (cloak), καὶ (also) τὸν (the) χιτῶνα (tunic) μὴ (not) κωλύσῃς (do withhold). ³⁰ παντὶ (To everyone) αἰτοῦντί (asking) σε (you), δίδου (give), καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the one) αἴροντος (taking away) τὰ (what is) σὰ (yours), μὴ (not) ἀπαίτει (ask it back). ³¹ καὶ (And) καθὼς (as) θέλετε (you desire) ἵνα (that) ποιῶσιν (should do) ὑμῖν (to you) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men), ποιεῖτε (do) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁμοίως (likewise).

³⁵ ἐν (By) τούτῳ (this) γνώσονται (will know) πάντες (all) ὅτι (that) ἐμοὶ (to Me) μαθηταί (disciples) ἐστε (you are), ἐὰν (if) ἀγάπην (love) ἔχητε (you have) ἐν (among) ἀλλήλοις (one another).”

⁸ ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐδοξάσθη (is glorified) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me), ἵνα (that) καρπὸν (fruit) πολὺν (much) φέρητε (you should bear), καὶ (and) γένησθε* (you shall be) ἐμοὶ (to Me) μαθηταί (disciples).

¹⁷ καίτοι (And yet) οὐκ (not) ἀμάρτυρον (without witness) αὑτὸν (Himself) ἀφῆκεν (He has left), ἀγαθουργῶν (doing good), οὐρανόθεν (from heaven) ὑμῖν (to you) ὑετοὺς (rains) διδοὺς (giving) καὶ (and) καιροὺς (seasons) καρποφόρους (fruitful), ἐμπιπλῶν (filling) τροφῆς (with food) καὶ (and) εὐφροσύνης (gladness) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you).”

⁸ συνίστησιν (Demonstrates) δὲ (however) τὴν (the) ἑαυτοῦ (of Himself) ἀγάπην (love) εἰς (to) ἡμᾶς (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὅτι (that) ἔτι (still) ἁμαρτωλῶν (sinners) ὄντων (being) ἡμῶν (of us), Χριστὸς (Christ) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us) ἀπέθανεν (died). ⁹ Πολλῷ (Much) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (more), δικαιωθέντες (having been justified) νῦν (now) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) αἵματι (blood) αὐτοῦ (of Him), σωθησόμεθα (we will be saved) δι’ (by) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ὀργῆς (wrath)! ¹⁰ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for), ἐχθροὶ (enemies) ὄντες (being), κατηλλάγημεν (we were reconciled) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) θανάτου (death) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), πολλῷ (much) μᾶλλον (more), καταλλαγέντες (having been reconciled), σωθησόμεθα (shall we be saved) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ζωῇ (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him)!

⁹ Γινώσκετε (You know) γὰρ (for) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὅτι (that) δι’ (for the sake of) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐπτώχευσεν (He became poor), πλούσιος (rich) ὤν (being), ἵνα (so that) ὑμεῖς (you) τῇ (-) ἐκείνου (through that) πτωχείᾳ (poverty) πλουτήσητε (might be enriched).

¹⁰ ἐν (Through) τούτῳ (this) φανερά (manifest) ἐστιν (are) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) τοῦ (of the) διαβόλου (devil): πᾶς (Anyone) ὁ (-) μὴ (not) ποιῶν (practicing) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), καὶ (and also) ὁ (the one) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him). ¹¹ Ὅτι (For) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) ἀγγελία (message) ἣν (that) ἠκούσατε (you have heard) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), ἵνα (that) ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another), ¹² οὐ (not) καθὼς (as) Κάϊν (Cain), ἐκ (who of) τοῦ (the) πονηροῦ (evil one) ἦν (was) καὶ (and) ἔσφαξεν (slew) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) χάριν (because of) τίνος (what) ἔσφαξεν (he slayed) αὐτόν (him)? ὅτι (Because) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτοῦ (of him) πονηρὰ (evil) ἦν (were), τὰ (those) δὲ (however) τοῦ (of the) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), δίκαια (righteous). ¹³ [καὶ] (And) Μὴ (not) θαυμάζετε (be surprised), ἀδελφοί (brothers), εἰ (if) μισεῖ (hates) ὑμᾶς (you) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world). ¹⁴ Ἡμεῖς (We) οἴδαμεν (know) ὅτι (that) μεταβεβήκαμεν (we have passed) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life), ὅτι (because) ἀγαπῶμεν (we love) τοὺς (our) ἀδελφούς (brothers). ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving) μένει (abides) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) θανάτῳ (death).

⁷ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another), ὅτι (because) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (is); καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἀγαπῶν (loving), ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) γεγέννηται (has been born), καὶ (and) γινώσκει (knows) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God). ⁸ ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving), οὐκ (not) ἔγνω (has known) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ὅτι (because) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀγάπη (love) ἐστίν (is). ⁹ Ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐφανερώθη (has been revealed) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (among) ἡμῖν (us), ὅτι (that) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τὸν (the) μονογενῆ (one and only), ἀπέσταλκεν (has sent) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ἵνα (so that) ζήσωμεν (we might live) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him). ¹⁰ ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love), οὐχ (not) ὅτι (that) ἡμεῖς (we) ἠγαπήκαμεν (loved) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅτι (that) αὐτὸς (He) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) ἀπέστειλεν (sent) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἱλασμὸν (as a propitiation) περὶ (for) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ἡμῶν (of us). ¹¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), εἰ (if) οὕτως (so) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ἡμᾶς (us), καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) ὀφείλομεν (ought) ἀλλήλους (one another) ἀγαπᾶν (to love).
