⁷ παρετηροῦντο (Were closely watching) δὲ (now) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), εἰ (whether) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) σαββάτῳ (Sabbath) θεραπεύει (He will heal), ἵνα (that) εὕρωσιν (they might find reason) κατηγορεῖν (to accuse) αὐτοῦ (Him).

⁵⁹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἀρχιερεῖς (the chief priests) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) συνέδριον (Council) ὅλον (whole) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) ψευδομαρτυρίαν (false testimony) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ὅπως (so that) αὐτὸν (him) θανατώσωσιν (they might put to death); ⁶⁰ καὶ (but) οὐχ (not any) εὗρον (they found), πολλῶν (of many) προσελθόντων (having come forward as) ψευδομαρτύρων (false witnesses). Ὕστερον (At last) δὲ (then), προσελθόντες (having come forward) δύο (two),

² καὶ (and) παρετήρουν (they were watching) αὐτὸν (Him), εἰ (whether) τοῖς (on the) σάββασιν (Sabbaths) θεραπεύσει (He will heal) αὐτόν (him), ἵνα (in order that) κατηγορήσωσιν (they might accuse) αὐτοῦ (Him).

⁵³ Κἀκεῖθεν (From there) ἐξελθόντος (having gone forth) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἤρξαντο (began) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) δεινῶς (urgently) ἐνέχειν (to press upon Him) καὶ (and) ἀποστοματίζειν (to make speak) αὐτὸν (Him) περὶ (about) πλειόνων (many things), ⁵⁴ ἐνεδρεύοντες (watching) αὐτὸν (Him) θηρεῦσαί (to catch) τι (in something) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

¹⁴ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now) ὁ (the) ἀρχισυνάγωγος (ruler of the synagogue), ἀγανακτῶν (indignant) ὅτι (because) τῷ (on the) σαββάτῳ (Sabbath) ἐθεράπευσεν (had healed) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ἔλεγεν (he was saying) τῷ (to the) ὄχλῳ (crowd) ὅτι (-), “Ἓξ (Six) ἡμέραι (days) εἰσὶν (there are) ἐν (in) αἷς (which) δεῖ (it behooves) ἐργάζεσθαι (to work); ἐν (in) αὐταῖς (these) οὖν (therefore) ἐρχόμενοι (coming) θεραπεύεσθε (be healed), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) τῇ (on the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (of the) σαββάτου (Sabbath).”

¹ Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) ἐλθεῖν (going) αὐτὸν (of Him) εἰς (into) οἶκόν (a house) τινος (of one) τῶν (of the) ἀρχόντων (rulers) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) σαββάτῳ (on a Sabbath) φαγεῖν (to eat) ἄρτον (bread), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) ἦσαν (were) παρατηρούμενοι (watching) αὐτόν (Him). ² καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄνθρωπός (a man) τις (certain) ἦν (there was) ὑδρωπικὸς (with dropsy) ἔμπροσθεν (before) αὐτοῦ (Him). ³ καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (spoke) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) νομικοὺς (lawyers) καὶ (and) Φαρισαίους (to the Pharisees), λέγων (saying), “Ἔξεστιν (Is it lawful) τῷ (on the) σαββάτῳ (Sabbath) θεραπεῦσαι (to heal) ἢ (or) οὔ (not)?” ⁴ Οἱ (-) δὲ (But) ἡσύχασαν (they were silent). Καὶ (And) ἐπιλαβόμενος (having taken hold of him), ἰάσατο (He healed) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) ἀπέλυσεν (let him go). ⁵ καὶ (And) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) εἶπεν (He said), “Τίνος (Which) ὑμῶν (of you) υἱὸς (a son) ἢ (or) βοῦς (an ox) εἰς (into) φρέαρ (a pit) πεσεῖται (will fall), καὶ (also) οὐκ (not) εὐθέως (immediately) ἀνασπάσει (he will pull up) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (on) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (the) σαββάτου (Sabbath)?” ⁶ Καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἴσχυσαν (they were able) ἀνταποκριθῆναι (to reply) πρὸς (to) ταῦτα (these things).

²⁰ Καὶ (And) παρατηρήσαντες (having watched Him), ἀπέστειλαν (they sent) ἐνκαθέτους (spies), ὑποκρινομένους (feigning) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) δικαίους (righteous) εἶναι (to be), ἵνα (that) ἐπιλάβωνται (they might catch) αὐτοῦ (Him) λόγου (in talk), ὥστε (in order) παραδοῦναι (to deliver) αὐτὸν (Him) τῇ (to the) ἀρχῇ (rule) καὶ (and) τῇ (to the) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority) τοῦ (of the) ἡγεμόνος (governor).

¹⁰ ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) τῷ (to the one) τεθεραπευμένῳ (having been healed), “Σάββατόν (Sabbath) ἐστιν (it is), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔξεστίν (it is lawful) σοι (for you) ἆραι (to take up) τὸν (the) κράβαττον (mat) [σου] (of you),” ¹¹ ὃς (who) δὲ (however) ἀπεκρίθη (answered) αὐτοῖς (them), “Ὁ (The One) ποιήσας (having made) με (me) ὑγιῆ (well), ἐκεῖνός (that One) μοι (to me) εἶπεν (said), ‘Ἆρον (Take up) τὸν (the) κράβαττόν (mat) σου (of you) καὶ (and) περιπάτει (walk).’” ¹² Ἠρώτησαν (They asked) ‹οὖν› (therefore) αὐτόν (him), “Τίς (Who) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ὁ (-) εἰπών (having said) σοι (to you), ‘Ἆρον (Take up) καὶ (and) περιπάτει (walk)?’” ¹³ Ὁ (The one) δὲ (now) ἰαθεὶς (having been healed) οὐκ (not) ᾔδει (knew) τίς (who) ἐστιν (it is), ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐξένευσεν (had moved away), ὄχλου (a crowd) ὄντος (being) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) τόπῳ (place). ¹⁴ Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) εὑρίσκει (finds) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἴδε (Behold), ὑγιὴς (well) γέγονας (you have become); μηκέτι (no more) ἁμάρτανε (sin), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) χεῖρόν (worse) σοί (to you) τι (something) γένηται (happens).” ¹⁵ ἀπῆλθεν (Went away) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) καὶ (and) ἀνήγγειλεν* (told) τοῖς (the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (it is) ὁ (the One) ποιήσας (having made) αὐτὸν (him) ὑγιῆ (well). ¹⁶ Καὶ (And) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this), ἐδίωκον (were persecuting) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ὅτι (because) ταῦτα (these things) ἐποίει (He was doing) ἐν (on) σαββάτῳ (the Sabbath).

¹⁶ Ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) τινές (some), “Οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (is) οὗτος (this) παρὰ (from) Θεοῦ (God) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man), ὅτι (for) τὸ (the) σάββατον (Sabbath) οὐ (not) τηρεῖ (He does keep).” Ἄλλοι (Others) [δὲ] (however) ἔλεγον (were saying), “Πῶς (How) δύναται (is able) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἁμαρτωλὸς (sinful) τοιαῦτα (such) σημεῖα (signs) ποιεῖν (to do)?” Καὶ (And) σχίσμα (division) ἦν (there was) ἐν (among) αὐτοῖς (them).

²⁶ Εἶπον* (They said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to him), “Τί (What) ἐποίησέν (did He) σοι (to you)? πῶς (How) ἤνοιξέν (opened He) σου (of you) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμούς (eyes)?” ²⁷ Ἀπεκρίθη (He answered) αὐτοῖς (them), “Εἶπον (I told) ὑμῖν (you) ἤδη (already), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἠκούσατε (you did listen). τί (Why) πάλιν (again) θέλετε (do you wish) ἀκούειν (to hear)? μὴ (Not) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) θέλετε (do wish) αὐτοῦ (His) μαθηταὶ (disciples) γενέσθαι (to become)?” ²⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐλοιδόρησαν (they railed at) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) εἶπον* (said), “Σὺ (You) μαθητὴς (a disciple) εἶ (are) ἐκείνου (of that One); ἡμεῖς (we) δὲ (however) τοῦ (-) Μωϋσέως (of Moses) ἐσμὲν (are) μαθηταί (disciples). ²⁹ ἡμεῖς (We) οἴδαμεν (know) ὅτι (that) Μωϋσεῖ (to Moses) λελάληκεν (has spoken) ὁ (-) Θεός (God); τοῦτον (this man) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) οἴδαμεν (we know) πόθεν (from where) ἐστίν (is).”
