²¹ Ἀπὸ (From) τότε (that time) ἤρξατο (began) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) δεικνύειν (to show) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) ἀπελθεῖν (to go away), καὶ (and) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθῆναι (to be raised). ²² Καὶ (And) προσλαβόμενος (having taken aside) αὐτὸν (Him), ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) ἤρξατο (began) ἐπιτιμᾶν (to rebuke) αὐτῷ (Him), λέγων (saying), “Ἵλεώς (Far be it) σοι (from You), Κύριε (Lord); οὐ (never), μὴ (not) ἔσται (will be) σοι (to You) τοῦτο (this).” ²³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) στραφεὶς (having turned) εἶπεν (He said) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter), “Ὕπαγε (Get) ὀπίσω (behind) μου (Me), Σατανᾶ (Satan)! σκάνδαλον (A stumbling block) εἶ (you are) ἐμοῦ (to Me). ὅτι (For) οὐ (not) φρονεῖς (your thoughts are of) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀλλὰ (but) τὰ (the) τῶν (things) ἀνθρώπων (of men).” ²⁴ Τότε (Then) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) τοῖς (to) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) θέλει (desires) ὀπίσω (after) μου (Me) ἐλθεῖν (to come), ἀπαρνησάσθω (let him deny) ἑαυτὸν (himself), καὶ (and) ἀράτω (take up) τὸν (the) σταυρὸν (cross) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) ἀκολουθείτω (follow) μοι (Me). ²⁵ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἐὰν (if) θέλῃ (might desire) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) σῶσαι (to save), ἀπολέσει (will lose) αὐτήν (it); ὃς (whoever) δ’ (however) ἂν (-) ἀπολέσῃ (might lose) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἕνεκεν (on account of) ἐμοῦ (Me), εὑρήσει (will find) αὐτήν (it). ²⁶ τί (What) γὰρ (for) ὠφεληθήσεται (will it profit) ἄνθρωπος (a man), ἐὰν (if) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ὅλον (whole) κερδήσῃ (he gains), τὴν (-) δὲ (but) ψυχὴν (the soul) αὐτοῦ (of him) ζημιωθῇ (loses)? ἢ (Or) τί (what) δώσει (will give) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἀντάλλαγμα (as an exchange for) τῆς (the) ψυχῆς (soul) αὐτοῦ (of him)? ²⁷ μέλλει (Is about) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of the) ἀνθρώπου (man) ἔρχεσθαι (to come) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him); καὶ (and) τότε (then) ἀποδώσει (He will give) ἑκάστῳ (to each) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) πρᾶξιν (deeds) αὐτοῦ (of him). ²⁸ Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (-), εἰσίν (there are) τινες (some) τῶν (of those) ὧδε (here) ἑστώτων (standing) οἵτινες (who) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) γεύσωνται (shall taste) θανάτου (of death) ἕως (until) ἂν (-) ἴδωσιν (they have seen) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) αὐτοῦ (of Him).”

¹² λέγω (I say) δὲ (however) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) Ἠλίας (Elijah) ἤδη (already) ἦλθεν (is come), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐπέγνωσαν (they knew) αὐτὸν (him), ἀλλὰ* (but) ἐποίησαν (did) ἐν (to) αὐτῷ (him) ὅσα (whatever) ἠθέλησαν (they desired). οὕτως (Thus) καὶ (also), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) μέλλει (is about) πάσχειν (to suffer) ὑπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them).”

²² Συστρεφομένων (Were abiding) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (they) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Γαλιλαίᾳ (Galilee), εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μέλλει (Is about) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοσθαι (to be betrayed) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (the hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men),

³¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) αὐτοὺς (them) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) μετὰ (after) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἀναστῆναι (to rise again).

³¹ ἐδίδασκεν (He was teaching) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), “Ὁ (The) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοται (is delivered) εἰς (into the) χεῖρας (hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθεὶς (having been killed), μετὰ (on the) τρεῖς (third) ἡμέρας (day) ἀναστήσεται (He will arise).”

³³ ὅτι (-) “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδοθήσεται (will be betrayed) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) γραμματεῦσιν (scribes), καὶ (and) κατακρινοῦσιν (they will condemn) αὐτὸν (Him) θανάτῳ (to death), καὶ (and) παραδώσουσιν (will betray) αὐτὸν (Him) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles). ³⁴ καὶ (And) ἐμπαίξουσιν (they will mock) αὐτῷ (Him), καὶ (and) ἐμπτύσουσιν (will spit upon) αὐτῷ (Him), καὶ (and) μαστιγώσουσιν (will flog) αὐτὸν (Him), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (will kill), καὶ (and) μετὰ (on the) τρεῖς (third) ἡμέρας (day) ἀναστήσεται (He will rise again).”

⁴⁴ “Θέσθε (Let sink) ὑμεῖς (you) εἰς (into) τὰ (the) ὦτα (ears) ὑμῶν (of you) τοὺς (the) λόγους (words) τούτους (these); ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) Υἱὸς (the Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) μέλλει (is about) παραδίδοσθαι (to be betrayed) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (the hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men).”

³¹ Παραλαβὼν (Having taken aside) δὲ (then) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve), εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) τελεσθήσεται (will be accomplished) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written) διὰ (by) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (prophets) τῷ (about the) Υἱῷ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man). ³² παραδοθήσεται (He will be betrayed) γὰρ (for) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles), καὶ (and) ἐμπαιχθήσεται (will be mocked), καὶ (and) ὑβρισθήσεται (will be insulted), καὶ (and) ἐμπτυσθήσεται (will be spit upon). ³³ καὶ (And) μαστιγώσαντες (having flogged Him), ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (-) τρίτῃ (third) ἀναστήσεται (He will rise again).” ³⁴ Καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) οὐδὲν (none) τούτων (of these things) συνῆκαν (understood); καὶ (and) ἦν (was) τὸ (the) ῥῆμα (word) τοῦτο (this) κεκρυμμένον (hidden) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) οὐκ (neither) ἐγίνωσκον (they knew) τὰ (the things) λεγόμενα (being spoken).

⁷ λέγων (saying), ‘Τὸν (The) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ὅτι (-) δεῖ (it behooves) παραδοθῆναι (to be delivered) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men) ἁμαρτωλῶν (sinful), καὶ (and) σταυρωθῆναι (to be crucified), καὶ (and) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἀναστῆναι (to arise).’”

²⁶ οὐχὶ (Not) ταῦτα (these things) ἔδει (was it necessary for) παθεῖν (to suffer) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ) καὶ (and) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him)?”

²⁵ ὁ (-) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) ἡμῶν (of us) διὰ (by) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy) στόματος (through the mouth) Δαυὶδ (David) παιδός (servant) σου (of You) εἰπών (having spoken) Ἵνα‿ (-): ‘Τί (Why) ἐφρύαξαν (did rage) ἔθνη (the Gentiles), καὶ (and) λαοὶ (peoples) ἐμελέτησαν (did devise) κενά (vain things)? ²⁶ παρέστησαν (Took their stand) οἱ (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄρχοντες (rulers) συνήχθησαν (were gathered) ἐπὶ (together) τὸ (-) αὐτὸ (themselves) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) Χριστοῦ (Christ) αὐτοῦ (of Him).’ ²⁷ Συνήχθησαν (Were gathered together) γὰρ (for) ἐπ’ (in) ἀληθείας (truth), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πόλει (city) ταύτῃ (this), ἐπὶ (against) τὸν (the) ἅγιον (holy) Παῖδά (servant) σου (of You) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ὃν (whom) ἔχρισας (You anointed), Ἡρῴδης (Herod) τε (both) καὶ (and) Πόντιος (Pontius) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate), σὺν (with) ἔθνεσιν (the Gentiles) καὶ (and) λαοῖς (peoples) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), ²⁸ ποιῆσαι (to do) ὅσα (whatever) ἡ (the) χείρ (hand) σου (of You) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) βουλὴ (purpose) [σου] (of You) προώρισεν (had determined beforehand) γενέσθαι (to happen).

²⁷ οἱ (Those) γὰρ (for) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) ἐν (in) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄρχοντες (rulers) αὐτῶν (of them), τοῦτον (Him) ἀγνοήσαντες (not having known), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) φωνὰς (voices) τῶν (of the) προφητῶν (prophets) τὰς (that) κατὰ (on) πᾶν (every) σάββατον (Sabbath) ἀναγινωσκομένας (are being read), κρίναντες (having condemned Him) ἐπλήρωσαν (they fulfilled them). ²⁸ καὶ (And) μηδεμίαν (no) αἰτίαν (cause) θανάτου (of death) εὑρόντες (having found), ᾐτήσαντο (they begged) Πιλᾶτον (Pilate) ἀναιρεθῆναι (to put to death) αὐτόν (him). ²⁹ Ὡς (When) δὲ (then) ἐτέλεσαν (they had finished) πάντα (all) τὰ (the things) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him) γεγραμμένα (having been written), καθελόντες (having taken Him down) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ξύλου (tree), ἔθηκαν (they put Him) εἰς (in) μνημεῖον (a tomb).
