³⁵ ἐπείνασα (I hungered) γὰρ (for), καὶ (and) ἐδώκατέ (you gave) μοι (Me) φαγεῖν (to eat); ἐδίψησα (I thirsted), καὶ (and) ἐποτίσατέ (you gave to drink) με (me); ξένος (a stranger) ἤμην (I was), καὶ (and) συνηγάγετέ (you took in) με (Me); ³⁶ γυμνὸς (naked), καὶ (and) περιεβάλετέ (you clothed) με (Me); ἠσθένησα (I was sick), καὶ (and) ἐπεσκέψασθέ (you visited) με (Me); ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison) ἤμην (I was), καὶ (and) ἤλθατε (you came) πρός (to) με (Me).’ ³⁷ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσονται (will answer) αὐτῷ (Him) οἱ (the) δίκαιοι (righteous), λέγοντες (saying), ‘Κύριε (Lord), πότε (when) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) πεινῶντα (hungering), καὶ (and) ἐθρέψαμεν (fed You)? ἢ (Or) διψῶντα (thirsting), καὶ (and) ἐποτίσαμεν (gave You to drink)? ³⁸ πότε (When) δέ (now) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) ξένον (a stranger), καὶ (and) συνηγάγομεν (took You in)? ἢ (Or) γυμνὸν (naked), καὶ (and) περιεβάλομεν (clothed You)? ³⁹ πότε (When) δέ (now) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) ἀσθενοῦντα (ailing) ἢ (or) ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison), καὶ (and) ἤλθομεν (came) πρός (to) σε (You)?’ ⁴⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) ἐρεῖ (will say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (as much as) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) μου (of Me) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (you did it).’ ⁴¹ Τότε (Then) ἐρεῖ (will He say) καὶ (also) τοῖς (to those) ἐξ (on) εὐωνύμων (the left), ‘Πορεύεσθε (Depart) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me), ‹οἱ› (those) κατηραμένοι (being cursed), εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) τὸ (-) αἰώνιον (eternal), τὸ (-) ἡτοιμασμένον (having been prepared) τῷ (for the) διαβόλῳ (devil) καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) ἀγγέλοις (angels) αὐτοῦ (of him). ⁴² ἐπείνασα (I hungered) γὰρ (for), καὶ (and) οὐκ (nothing) ἐδώκατέ (you gave) μοι (to Me) φαγεῖν (to eat); (καὶ) (and) ἐδίψησα (I thirsted), καὶ (and) οὐκ (nothing) ἐποτίσατέ (You gave to drink) με (Me); ⁴³ ξένος (a stranger) ἤμην (I was), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) συνηγάγετέ (You took in) με (Me); γυμνὸς (naked), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) περιεβάλετέ (you did clothe) με (Me); ἀσθενὴς (sick) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐπεσκέψασθέ (did you visit) με (Me).’ ⁴⁴ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσονται (will answer) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (themselves), λέγοντες (saying), ‘Κύριε (Lord), πότε (when) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) πεινῶντα (hungering), ἢ (or) διψῶντα (thirsting), ἢ (or) ξένον (a stranger), ἢ (or) γυμνὸν (naked), ἢ (or) ἀσθενῆ (sick), ἢ (or) ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) διηκονήσαμέν (did minister) σοι (to You)?’ ⁴⁵ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσεται (will He answer) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (that) οὐκ (not) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), οὐδὲ (neither) ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (did you).’

¹¹ πάντοτε (Always) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (the) πτωχοὺς (poor) ἔχετε (you have) μεθ’ (with) ἑαυτῶν (you); ἐμὲ (Me) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) πάντοτε (always) ἔχετε (you have).

⁷ Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἄφες (Leave alone) αὐτήν (her), ἵνα (so that) εἰς (for) τὴν (the) ἡμέραν (day) τοῦ (of the) ἐνταφιασμοῦ (burial) μου (of Me) τηρήσῃ (she may keep) αὐτό (it); ⁸ τοὺς (the) πτωχοὺς (poor) γὰρ (for) πάντοτε (always) ἔχετε (you have) μεθ’ (with) ἑαυτῶν (you); ἐμὲ (Me) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) πάντοτε (always) ἔχετε (you have).”

³³ Τεκνία (Little children), ἔτι (yet) μικρὸν (a little while) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) εἰμι (I am). ζητήσετέ (You will seek) με (Me); καὶ (and), καθὼς (as) εἶπον (I said) τοῖς (to the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews) ὅτι (-): ‘Ὅπου (Where) ἐγὼ (I) ὑπάγω (go), ὑμεῖς (you) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come),’ καὶ (also) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγω (I say) ἄρτι (now).

⁵ Νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) ὑπάγω (I go) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the One) πέμψαντά (having sent) με (Me), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (none) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you) ἐρωτᾷ (asks) με (Me), ‘Ποῦ (Where) ὑπάγεις (are You going)?’

²⁸ ἐξῆλθον (I came forth) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) καὶ (and) ἐλήλυθα (have come) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world); πάλιν (again) ἀφίημι (I leave) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) καὶ (and) πορεύομαι (go) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father).”

¹¹ καὶ (And) οὐκέτι (no longer) εἰμὶ (I am) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world), καὶ (and yet) αὐτοὶ (themselves) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) εἰσίν (they are), κἀγὼ (and I) πρὸς (to) σὲ (You) ἔρχομαι (am coming). Πάτερ (Father) ἅγιε (Holy), τήρησον (keep) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) σου (of You), ᾧ (which) δέδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me), ἵνα (that) ὦσιν (they may be) ἓν (one) καθὼς (as) ἡμεῖς (we are).

²¹ ὃν (whom) δεῖ (it behooves) οὐρανὸν (heaven) μὲν (indeed) δέξασθαι (to receive), ἄχρι (until) χρόνων (the times) ἀποκαταστάσεως (of restoration) πάντων (of all things), ὧν (of which) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) διὰ (by) στόματος (the mouth) τῶν (of) ἁγίων (holy) ἀπ’ (from) αἰῶνος (the age) αὐτοῦ (His) προφητῶν (prophets).

¹³ διὰ (through) τῆς (the) δοκιμῆς (proof) τῆς (of the) διακονίας (service) ταύτης (this), δοξάζοντες (they glorifying) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (the) ὑποταγῇ (submission) τῆς (of the) ὁμολογίας (of confession) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) καὶ (and) ἁπλότητι (the generosity) τῆς (of the) κοινωνίας (participation) εἰς (toward) αὐτοὺς (them) καὶ (and) εἰς (toward) πάντας (all); ¹⁴ καὶ (and) αὐτῶν (their) δεήσει (supplication) ὑπὲρ (is for) ὑμῶν (you), ἐπιποθούντων (a longing) ὑμᾶς (for you) διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) ὑπερβάλλουσαν (surpassing) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμῖν (you).

⁷ χαρὰν (Joy) γὰρ (for) πολλὴν (great) ἔσχον (I have), καὶ (and) παράκλησιν (encouragement) ἐπὶ (by occasion of) τῇ (the) ἀγάπῃ (love) σου (of you), ὅτι (because) τὰ (the) σπλάγχνα (hearts) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) ἀναπέπαυται (have been refreshed) διὰ (by) σοῦ (you), ἀδελφέ (brother).

¹⁴ Τί (What is) τὸ (the) ὄφελος (profit), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me), ἐὰν (if) πίστιν (faith) λέγῃ (says) τις (anyone) ἔχειν (to have), ἔργα (works) δὲ (however) μὴ (not) ἔχῃ (he has)? μὴ (Not) δύναται (is able) ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σῶσαι (to save) αὐτόν (him)? ¹⁵ ἐὰν (Now if) ἀδελφὸς (a brother) ἢ (or) ἀδελφὴ (a sister) γυμνοὶ (without clothes) ὑπάρχωσιν (is), καὶ (and) λειπόμενοι (lacking) τῆς (-) ἐφημέρου (of daily) τροφῆς (food), ¹⁶ εἴπῃ (says) δέ (then) τις (anyone) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐξ (out from) ὑμῶν (you), “Ὑπάγετε (Go) ἐν (in) εἰρήνῃ (peace); θερμαίνεσθε (be warmed) καὶ (and) χορτάζεσθε (be filled),” μὴ (not) δῶτε (gives) δὲ (however) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ἐπιτήδεια (needful things) τοῦ (for the) σώματος (body), τί (what is) τὸ (the) ὄφελος (profit)?

¹⁶ Ἐν (By) τούτῳ (this) ἐγνώκαμεν (we have known) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love), ὅτι (because) ἐκεῖνος (He) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἔθηκεν (laid down); καὶ (and) ἡμεῖς (we) ὀφείλομεν (ought) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (our) ἀδελφῶν (brothers), τὰς (our) ψυχὰς (lives) θεῖναι (to lay down). ¹⁷ ὃς (Whoever) δ’ (now) ἂν (-) ἔχῃ (might have) τὸν (the) βίον (goods) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), καὶ (and) θεωρῇ (might see) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him) χρείαν (need) ἔχοντα (having), καὶ (and) κλείσῃ (might close up) τὰ (the) σπλάγχνα (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (him), πῶς (how) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μένει (abides) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him)? ¹⁸ Τεκνία (Little children), μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) λόγῳ (in word), μηδὲ (nor) τῇ (in) γλώσσῃ (tongue), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐν (in) ἔργῳ (action) καὶ (and) ἀληθείᾳ (in truth). ¹⁹ [καὶ] (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γνωσόμεθα (we will know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) ἐσμέν (we are), καὶ (and) ἔμπροσθεν (before) αὐτοῦ (Him) πείσομεν (we will assure) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) ἡμῶν (of us),
