¹⁷ Καὶ (And) γνοὺς (having known it), λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (Why) διαλογίζεσθε (reason you) ὅτι (because) ἄρτους (loaves) οὐκ (not) ἔχετε (you have)? οὔπω (Not yet) νοεῖτε (do you perceive) οὐδὲ (nor) συνίετε (understand)? πεπωρωμένην (Hardened) ἔχετε (do you have) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) ὑμῶν (of you)?

¹⁷ οὐ (Not yet) νοεῖτε (understand you) ὅτι (that) πᾶν (everything) τὸ (-) εἰσπορευόμενον (entering) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth), εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κοιλίαν (stomach) χωρεῖ (goes), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ἀφεδρῶνα (the sewer) ἐκβάλλεται (is cast out)?

⁸ Γνοὺς (Having known this) δὲ (however), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Τί (Why) διαλογίζεσθε (reason you) ἐν (among) ἑαυτοῖς (yourselves), ὀλιγόπιστοι (O you of little faith), ὅτι (because) ἄρτους (bread) οὐκ (not) ἔχετε (you took)? ⁹ οὔπω (Not yet) νοεῖτε (do you understand), οὐδὲ (nor) μνημονεύετε (remember) τοὺς (the) πέντε (five) ἄρτους (loaves) τῶν (for the) πεντακισχιλίων (five thousand), καὶ (and) πόσους (how many) κοφίνους (hand-baskets) ἐλάβετε (you gathered)?

⁸ Καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (immediately), ἐπιγνοὺς (having known) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τῷ (in the) πνεύματι (spirit) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) οὕτως (thus) διαλογίζονται (they are reasoning) ἐν (within) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (Why) ταῦτα (these things) διαλογίζεσθε (reason you) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you)?

⁵ Καὶ (And) περιβλεψάμενος (having looked around on) αὐτοὺς (them) μετ’ (with) ὀργῆς (anger), συλλυπούμενος* (being grieved) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (the) πωρώσει (hardness) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) αὐτῶν (of them), λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man), “Ἔκτεινον (Stretch out) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) (σου) (of you).” καὶ (And) ἐξέτεινεν (he stretched it out), καὶ (and) ἀπεκατεστάθη (was restored) ἡ (the) χεὶρ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him).

⁵² οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) συνῆκαν (they understood) ἐπὶ (by) τοῖς (the) ἄρτοις (loaves); ἀλλ’ (but) ἦν (had been) αὐτῶν (of them) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) πεπωρωμένη (hardened).

¹⁴ Ὕστερον (Afterward) δὲ (now) ἀνακειμένοις (were reclining) αὐτοῖς (they); τοῖς (to the) ἕνδεκα (eleven) ἐφανερώθη (He appeared) καὶ (and) ὠνείδισεν (rebuked) τὴν (the) ἀπιστίαν (unbelief) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) σκληροκαρδίαν (hardness of heart), ὅτι (because) τοῖς (those) θεασαμένοις (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐγηγερμένον (arisen) οὐκ (not) ἐπίστευσαν (they believed).

²⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He) εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ὦ (O) ἀνόητοι (foolish) καὶ (and) βραδεῖς (slow) τῇ (-) καρδίᾳ (of heart) τοῦ (-) πιστεύειν (to believe) ἐπὶ (in) πᾶσιν (all) οἷς (that) ἐλάλησαν (have spoken) οἱ (the) προφῆται (prophets).

²⁴ αὐτὸς (On His part) δὲ (however) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὐκ (not) ἐπίστευεν (did entrust) αὑτὸν (Himself) αὐτοῖς (to them), διὰ (because of) τὸ (-) αὐτὸν (His) γινώσκειν (knowing) πάντας (all men), ²⁵ καὶ (and) ὅτι (because) οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) εἶχεν (He had) ἵνα (that) τις (anyone) μαρτυρήσῃ (should testify) περὶ (concerning) τοῦ (the) ἀνθρώπου (man); αὐτὸς (He Himself) γὰρ (for) ἐγίνωσκεν (knew) τί (what) ἦν (was) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man).

³⁰ νῦν (Now) οἴδαμεν (we know) ὅτι (that) οἶδας (You know) πάντα (all things), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) χρείαν (need) ἔχεις (have) ἵνα (that) τίς (anyone) σε (You) ἐρωτᾷ (should ask). ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) πιστεύομεν (we believe) ὅτι (that) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God) ἐξῆλθες (You came forth).”

¹⁷ Λέγει (He says) αὐτῷ (to him) τὸ (the) τρίτον (third time), “Σίμων (Simon) Ἰωάννου (son of John), φιλεῖς (do you dearly love) με (Me)?” Ἐλυπήθη (Was grieved) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) ὅτι (because) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῷ (to him) τὸ (the) τρίτον (third time), “Φιλεῖς (Do you dearly love) με (Me)?” Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (he said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Κύριε (Lord), πάντα (all things) σὺ (You) οἶδας (know); σὺ (You) γινώσκεις (know) ὅτι (that) φιλῶ (I dearly love) σε (You).” Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Βόσκε (Feed) τὰ (the) πρόβατά (sheep) μου (of Me).

¹² Ζῶν (Living is) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) ἐνεργὴς (active), καὶ (and) τομώτερος (sharper) ὑπὲρ (than) πᾶσαν (any) μάχαιραν (sword) δίστομον (two-edged), καὶ (even) διϊκνούμενος (penetrating) ἄχρι (as far as) μερισμοῦ (the division) ψυχῆς (of soul) καὶ (and) πνεύματος (spirit), ἁρμῶν (of joints) τε (and) καὶ (also) μυελῶν (marrows), καὶ (and) κριτικὸς (able to judge) ἐνθυμήσεων (the thoughts) καὶ (and) ἐννοιῶν (intentions) καρδίας (of the heart). ¹³ καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) κτίσις (creature) ἀφανὴς (hidden) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him); πάντα (all things) δὲ (however) γυμνὰ (are uncovered) καὶ (and) τετραχηλισμένα (laid bare) τοῖς (to the) ὀφθαλμοῖς (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of Him) πρὸς (to) ὃν (whom) ἡμῖν (is our) ὁ (-) λόγος (reckoning).

¹¹ Περὶ (Concerning) οὗ (this) πολὺς (there is much) ἡμῖν (from us) ὁ (-) λόγος (speech), καὶ (and) δυσερμήνευτος (difficult in interpretation) λέγειν (to speak), ἐπεὶ (since) νωθροὶ (sluggish) γεγόνατε (you have become) ταῖς (in the) ἀκοαῖς (hearings). ¹² καὶ (Even) γὰρ (for) ὀφείλοντες (you ought) εἶναι (to be) διδάσκαλοι (teachers) διὰ (by) τὸν (the) χρόνον (time), πάλιν (again) χρείαν (need of) ἔχετε (you have) τοῦ (one) διδάσκειν (to teach) ὑμᾶς (you) τινα (what is) τὰ (the) στοιχεῖα (principles) τῆς (of the) ἀρχῆς (beginning) τῶν (of the) λογίων (oracles) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); καὶ (and) γεγόνατε (you have become) χρείαν (need) ἔχοντες (those having) γάλακτος (of milk), [καὶ] (and) οὐ (not) στερεᾶς (of solid) τροφῆς (food).

²³ καὶ (And) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) αὐτῆς (of her) ἀποκτενῶ (I will kill) ἐν (with) θανάτῳ (death), καὶ (and) γνώσονται (will know) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) ἐκκλησίαι (churches) ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the One) ἐραυνῶν (searching) νεφροὺς (affections) καὶ (and) καρδίας (hearts); καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) ὑμῖν (of you) ἑκάστῳ (to each) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) ὑμῶν (of you).
