⁵ Ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law), ὅτι (that) τοῖς (on the) σάββασιν (Sabbath) οἱ (the) ἱερεῖς (priests) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) τὸ (the) σάββατον (Sabbath) βεβηλοῦσιν (profane), καὶ (and) ἀναίτιοί (guiltless) εἰσιν (are)?

⁴ Ὁ (Which) δὲ (now) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said), “Οὐκ (Not) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the One) κτίσας (having created), ἀπ’ (from the) ἀρχῆς (beginning) ‘Ἄρσεν (male) καὶ (and) θῆλυ (female) ἐποίησεν (made) αὐτοὺς (them)’

¹⁶ καὶ (and) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ἀκούεις (Hear you) τί (what) οὗτοι (these) λέγουσιν (say)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ναί (Yes), οὐδέποτε (never) ἀνέγνωτε (did you read) ὅτι (-): ‘Ἐκ (Out of the) στόματος (mouth) νηπίων (of babes) καὶ (and) θηλαζόντων (sucklings), Κατηρτίσω (You have prepared for yourself) αἶνον (praise)’?”

³¹ περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῆς (the) ἀναστάσεως (resurrection) τῶν (of the) νεκρῶν (dead), οὐκ (not) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read) τὸ (that which) ῥηθὲν (has been spoken) ὑμῖν (to you) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), λέγοντος (saying),

²⁵ Καὶ (And) λέγει (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Οὐδέποτε (Never) ἀνέγνωτε (did you read) τί (what) ἐποίησεν (did) Δαυὶδ (David), ὅτε (when) χρείαν (need) ἔσχεν (he had) καὶ (and) ἐπείνασεν (hungered), αὐτὸς (he) καὶ (and) οἱ (those) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him)? ²⁶ πῶς (How) εἰσῆλθεν (he entered) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐπὶ (in the days of) Ἀβιαθὰρ (Abiathar) ἀρχιερέως (the high priest), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἄρτους (loaves) τῆς (of the) προθέσεως (presentation) ἔφαγεν (ate), οὓς (which) οὐκ (not) ἔξεστιν (it is lawful) φαγεῖν (to eat), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) τοὺς (for the) ἱερεῖς (priests). καὶ (And) ἔδωκεν (he gave) καὶ (even) τοῖς (to those) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (him) οὖσιν (being)?”

¹⁰ οὐδὲ (Not even) τὴν (the) γραφὴν (Scripture) ταύτην (this) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (the) κεφαλὴν (chief) γωνίας (corner);

²⁶ Περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead), ὅτι (that) ἐγείρονται (they rise), οὐκ (not) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βίβλῳ (book) Μωϋσέως (of Moses), ἐπὶ (on) τοῦ (the) Βάτου (bush), πῶς (how) εἶπεν (spoke) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), λέγων (saying), ‘Ἐγὼ (I am) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) Ἀβραὰμ (of Abraham), καὶ (and) ‹ὁ› (the) Θεὸς (God) Ἰσαὰκ (of Isaac), καὶ (and) ‹ὁ› (the) Θεὸς (God) Ἰακώβ (of Jacob)’?

³ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them), εἶπεν (said) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐδὲ (Not even) τοῦτο (this) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read), ὃ (that which) ἐποίησεν (did) Δαυὶδ (David), ὁπότε (when) ἐπείνασεν (was hungry) αὐτὸς (he himself), καὶ (and) οἱ (those who) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ὄντες (were):

²⁶ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (him), “Ἐν (In) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law) τί (what) γέγραπται (has been written)? πῶς (How) ἀναγινώσκεις (read you)?”
