¹³ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) αὐτοῖς (to them) λαλῶ (I speak): ‘Ὅτι (Because) βλέποντες (seeing), οὐ (not) βλέπουσιν (do they see); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), οὐκ (not) ἀκούουσιν (do they hear), οὐδὲ (nor) συνίουσιν (do they understand).’

¹⁶ Ὑμῶν (Of you) δὲ (however) μακάριοι (blessed) οἱ (are the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes), ὅτι (because) βλέπουσιν (they see); καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ὦτα (ears) ὑμῶν (of you), ὅτι (because) ἀκούουσιν (they hear).

¹⁷ Καὶ (And) γνοὺς (having known it), λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (Why) διαλογίζεσθε (reason you) ὅτι (because) ἄρτους (loaves) οὐκ (not) ἔχετε (you have)? οὔπω (Not yet) νοεῖτε (do you perceive) οὐδὲ (nor) συνίετε (understand)? πεπωρωμένην (Hardened) ἔχετε (do you have) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) ὑμῶν (of you)? ¹⁸ ‘Ὀφθαλμοὺς (Eyes) ἔχοντες (having), οὐ (not) βλέπετε (do you see)? καὶ (And) ὦτα (ears) ἔχοντες (having), οὐκ (not) ἀκούετε (do you hear)?’ καὶ (And) οὐ (not) μνημονεύετε (do you remember)?

¹⁹ Αὕτη (This) δέ (now) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) κρίσις (judgement), ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) φῶς (Light) ἐλήλυθεν (has come) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), καὶ (and) ἠγάπησαν (loved) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) μᾶλλον (rather) τὸ (the) σκότος (darkness) ἢ (than) τὸ (the) φῶς (Light); ἦν (were) γὰρ (for) αὐτῶν (of them) πονηρὰ (evil) τὰ (the) ἔργα (deeds). ²⁰ πᾶς (Everyone) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) φαῦλα (evil) πράσσων (practicing) μισεῖ (hates) τὸ (the) φῶς (Light) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔρχεται (comes) πρὸς (to) τὸ (the) φῶς (Light), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ἐλεγχθῇ (may be exposed) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτοῦ (of him);

³⁹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Εἰς (For) κρίμα (judgment) ἐγὼ (I) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) τοῦτον (this) ἦλθον (came), ἵνα (that) οἱ (those) μὴ (not) βλέποντες (seeing) βλέπωσιν (may see); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) βλέποντες (seeing), τυφλοὶ (blind) γένωνται (may become).” ⁴⁰ ἤκουσαν (Heard) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) ταῦτα (these things), οἱ (who) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) ὄντες (were), καὶ (and) εἶπον* (they said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Μὴ (Not) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) τυφλοί (blind) ἐσμεν (are)?” ⁴¹ Εἶπεν (Said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Εἰ (If) τυφλοὶ (blind) ἦτε (you were), οὐκ (not) ἂν (-) εἴχετε (you would have) ἁμαρτίαν (sin); νῦν (since) δὲ (however) λέγετε (you say) ὅτι (-), ‘Βλέπομεν (We see),’ ἡ (the) ἁμαρτία (sin) ὑμῶν (of you) μένει (remains).”

³ Εἰ (If) δὲ (however) καὶ (indeed) ἔστιν (is) κεκαλυμμένον (concealed) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) ἡμῶν (of us), ἐν (to) τοῖς (those who) ἀπολλυμένοις (are perishing) ἐστὶν (it is) κεκαλυμμένον (concealed), ⁴ ἐν (in) οἷς (whom) ὁ (the) θεὸς (god) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age) τούτου (this) ἐτύφλωσεν (has blinded) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) τῶν (of the) ἀπίστων (unbelieving), εἰς (so as for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) αὐγάσαι (to beam forth) τὸν (the) φωτισμὸν (illumination) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰκὼν (the image) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).
