¹² Τί (What) ὑμῖν (you) δοκεῖ (do think)? ἐὰν (If) γένηταί (there should be) τινι (to any) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) ἑκατὸν (a hundred) πρόβατα (sheep), καὶ (and) πλανηθῇ (has gone astray) ἓν (one) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them), οὐχὶ (not) ἀφήσει (will he leave) τὰ (the) ἐνενήκοντα (ninety) ἐννέα (nine) ἐπὶ (on) τὰ (the) ὄρη (mountains), καὶ (and) πορευθεὶς (having gone), ζητεῖ (seek) τὸ (the one) πλανώμενον (going astray)?

¹¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τίς (What) ἔσται (will there be) ἐξ (among) ὑμῶν (you) ἄνθρωπος (man), ὃς (who) ἕξει (will have) πρόβατον (sheep) ἕν (one), καὶ (and) ἐὰν (if) ἐμπέσῃ (falls) τοῦτο (it) τοῖς (on the) σάββασιν (Sabbaths) εἰς (into) βόθυνον (a pit), οὐχὶ (not) κρατήσει (will he take hold of) αὐτὸ (it) καὶ (and) ἐγερεῖ (will raise it up)?

²⁸ Τί (What) δὲ (however) ὑμῖν (you) δοκεῖ (think)? ἄνθρωπος (A man) εἶχεν (had) τέκνα (sons) δύο (two), [καὶ] (and) προσελθὼν (having come) τῷ (to the) πρώτῳ (first) εἶπεν (he said), ‘Τέκνον (Son), ὕπαγε (go) σήμερον (today), ἐργάζου (work) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀμπελῶνι (vineyard).’

⁴² λέγων (saying), “Τί (What) ὑμῖν (you) δοκεῖ (think) περὶ (concerning) τοῦ (the) Χριστοῦ (Christ)? τίνος (Of whom) υἱός (son) ἐστιν (is He)?” Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Τοῦ (-) Δαυίδ (Of David).”

⁴ “Τίς (What) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you), ἔχων (having) ἑκατὸν (a hundred) πρόβατα (sheep), καὶ (and) ἀπολέσας (having lost) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ἓν (one), οὐ (not) καταλείπει (leaves) τὰ (the) ἐνενήκοντα (ninety) ἐννέα (nine) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (open field), καὶ (and) πορεύεται (goes) ἐπὶ (after) τὸ (the one) ἀπολωλὸς (having been lost), ἕως (until) εὕρῃ (he finds) αὐτό (it)? ⁵ καὶ (And) εὑρὼν (having found it), ἐπιτίθησιν (he lays it) ἐπὶ (on) τοὺς (the) ὤμους (shoulders) αὐτοῦ (of him), χαίρων (rejoicing). ⁶ καὶ (And) ἐλθὼν (having come) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house), συνκαλεῖ (he calls together) τοὺς (the) φίλους (friends) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) γείτονας (neighbors), λέγων (saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Συνχάρητέ (Rejoice with) μοι (me), ὅτι (for) εὗρον (I have found) τὸ (the) πρόβατόν (sheep) μου (of me), τὸ (the one) ἀπολωλός (having been lost)!’ ⁷ λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οὕτως (in the same way) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven) ἔσται (there will be) ἐπὶ (over) ἑνὶ (one) ἁμαρτωλῷ (sinner) μετανοοῦντι (repenting), ἢ (rather than) ἐπὶ (over) ἐνενήκοντα (ninety) ἐννέα (nine) δικαίοις (righteous ones), οἵτινες (who) οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) ἔχουσιν (have) μετανοίας (of repentance).

¹¹ Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ποιμὴν (shepherd) ὁ (-) καλός (good). ὁ (The) ποιμὴν (shepherd) ὁ (-) καλὸς (good), τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τίθησιν (lays down) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (the) προβάτων (sheep); ¹² ὁ (the) μισθωτὸς (hired servant) καὶ (however) οὐκ (not) ὢν (being) ποιμήν (the shepherd), οὗ (whose) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (are) τὰ (the) πρόβατα (sheep) ἴδια (own), θεωρεῖ (sees) τὸν (the) λύκον (wolf) ἐρχόμενον (coming), καὶ (and) ἀφίησιν (leaves) τὰ (the) πρόβατα (sheep), καὶ (and) φεύγει (flees)— καὶ (and) ὁ (the) λύκος (wolf) ἁρπάζει (snatches) αὐτὰ (them) καὶ (and) σκορπίζει (scatters)— ¹³ ὅτι (because) μισθωτός (a hired servant) ἐστιν (he is), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) μέλει (is himself concerned) αὐτῷ (to him) περὶ (about) τῶν (the) προβάτων (sheep). ¹⁴ Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ποιμὴν (shepherd) ὁ (-) καλός (good); καὶ (and) γινώσκω (I know) τὰ (-) ἐμὰ (My own), καὶ (and) γινώσκουσί (am known) με (I) τὰ (by) ἐμά (Mine). ¹⁵ καθὼς (As) γινώσκει (knows) με (Me) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father), κἀγὼ (I also) γινώσκω (know) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father); καὶ (and) τὴν (the) ψυχήν (life) μου (of Me) τίθημι (I lay down) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (the) προβάτων (sheep). ¹⁶ καὶ (And) ἄλλα (other) πρόβατα (sheep) ἔχω (I have), ἃ (which) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (are) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) αὐλῆς (fold) ταύτης (this); κἀκεῖνα (those also) δεῖ (it behooves) με (Me) ἀγαγεῖν (to bring), καὶ (and) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) μου (of Me) ἀκούσουσιν (they will hear); καὶ (and) γενήσονται* (there will be) μία (one) ποίμνη (flock), εἷς (with one) ποιμήν (shepherd). ¹⁷ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτό (this), με (Me) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἀγαπᾷ (loves), ὅτι (because) ἐγὼ (I) τίθημι (lay down) τὴν (the) ψυχήν (life) μου (of Me), ἵνα (that) πάλιν (again) λάβω (I might take) αὐτήν (it). ¹⁸ οὐδεὶς (No one) αἴρει* (takes) αὐτὴν (it) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐγὼ (I) τίθημι (lay down) αὐτὴν (it) ἀπ’ (of) ἐμαυτοῦ (Myself). ἐξουσίαν (Authority) ἔχω (I have) θεῖναι (to lay down) αὐτήν (it), καὶ (and) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔχω (I have) πάλιν (again) λαβεῖν (to take) αὐτήν (it). ταύτην (This) τὴν (-) ἐντολὴν (commandment) ἔλαβον (I received) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me).” ¹⁹ Σχίσμα (Division) πάλιν (again) ἐγένετο (there was) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews) διὰ (on account of) τοὺς (the) λόγους (words) τούτους (these). ²⁰ ἔλεγον (Were saying) δὲ (now) πολλοὶ (many) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them), “Δαιμόνιον (A demon) ἔχει (He has), καὶ (and) μαίνεται (is insane); τί (why) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἀκούετε (do you listen to)?” ²¹ Ἄλλοι (Others) ἔλεγον (were saying), “Ταῦτα (These) τὰ (-) ῥήματα (sayings) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (are those) δαιμονιζομένου (of one possessed by a demon). μὴ (Not) δαιμόνιον (a demon) δύναται (is able) τυφλῶν (of the blind) ὀφθαλμοὺς (the eyes) ἀνοῖξαι (to open)?”

¹⁵ ὡς (As) φρονίμοις (to sensible ones) λέγω (I speak); κρίνατε (judge) ὑμεῖς (for yourselves) ὅ (what) φημι (I say).

²⁵ Ἦτε (You were) γὰρ (for) ὡς (like) πρόβατα (sheep) πλανώμενοι (going astray), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐπεστράφητε (you have returned) νῦν (now) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (the) Ποιμένα (Shepherd) καὶ (and) Ἐπίσκοπον (Overseer) τῶν (of the) ψυχῶν (souls) ὑμῶν (of you).
