¹⁹ καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) συκῆν (fig tree) μίαν (one) ἐπὶ (along) τῆς (the) ὁδοῦ (road), ἦλθεν (He came) ἐπ’ (to) αὐτήν (it) καὶ (and) οὐδὲν (nothing) εὗρεν (found) ἐν (on) αὐτῇ (it), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) φύλλα (leaves) μόνον (only). καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτῇ (to it), “〈Οὐ〉 (Never) μηκέτι (no more) ἐκ (from) σοῦ (you) καρπὸς (fruit) γένηται (let there be), εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age).” καὶ (And) ἐξηράνθη (withered) παραχρῆμα (immediately) ἡ (the) συκῆ (fig tree).

¹⁴ καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῇ (to it), “Μηκέτι (No more) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), ἐκ (of) σοῦ (you) μηδεὶς (no one) καρπὸν (fruit) φάγοι (may eat).” καὶ (And) ἤκουον (were listening) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁹ ἤδη (Already) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) ἡ (the) ἀξίνη (ax) πρὸς (to) τὴν (the) ῥίζαν (root) τῶν (of the) δένδρων (trees) κεῖται (is applied); πᾶν (every) οὖν (therefore) δένδρον (tree) μὴ (not) ποιοῦν (producing) καρπὸν (fruit) καλὸν (good) ἐκκόπτεται (is cut down) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) πῦρ (the fire) βάλλεται (is thrown).”

⁶ Ἔλεγεν (He was speaking) δὲ (then) ταύτην (this) τὴν (-) παραβολήν (parable): “Συκῆν (A fig tree) εἶχέν (had) τις (a certain man) πεφυτευμένην (planted) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀμπελῶνι (vineyard) αὐτοῦ (of him); καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (he came) ζητῶν (seeking) καρπὸν (fruit) ἐν (on) αὐτῇ (it), καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὗρεν (did find any). ⁷ εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) ἀμπελουργόν (vinedresser), ‘Ἰδοὺ (Behold), τρία (three) ἔτη (years) ἀφ’ (throughout) οὗ (these) ἔρχομαι (I come) ζητῶν (seeking) καρπὸν (fruit) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) συκῇ (fig tree) ταύτῃ (this), καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὑρίσκω (do find any). ἔκκοψον (Cut down) [οὖν] (therefore) αὐτήν (it), ἵνα‿ (that) τί (why) καὶ (even) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground) καταργεῖ (should it use up)?’ ⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), λέγει (he says) αὐτῷ (to him), ‘Κύριε (Sir), ἄφες (let alone) αὐτὴν (it) καὶ (also) τοῦτο (this) τὸ (the) ἔτος (year), ἕως (until) ὅτου (when) σκάψω (I shall dig) περὶ (around) αὐτὴν (it), καὶ (and) βάλω (put in) κόπρια (manure), ⁹ κἂν (and if) μὲν (indeed) ποιήσῃ (it should bear) καρπὸν (fruit) εἰς (in) τὸ (the time), μέλλον (so be it). εἰ (If) δὲ (however) μή¦γε (not), ἐκκόψεις (you will cut down) αὐτήν (it).’”

⁴² λέγων (saying) ὅτι (-), “Εἰ (If) ἔγνως (you had known) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ταύτῃ (this), καὶ (even) σὺ (you), τὰ (the things) πρὸς (for) εἰρήνην (peace)! νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) ἐκρύβη (they are hidden) ἀπὸ (from) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) σου (of you). ⁴³ ὅτι (For) ἥξουσιν (will come) ἡμέραι (days) ἐπὶ (upon) σὲ (you) καὶ (that) παρεμβαλοῦσιν (will cast around) οἱ (the) ἐχθροί (enemies) σου (of you) χάρακά (a barricade) σοι (you); καὶ (and) περικυκλώσουσίν (they will surround) σε (you) καὶ (and) συνέξουσίν (will hem in) σε (you) πάντοθεν (on every side), ⁴⁴ καὶ (and) ἐδαφιοῦσίν (will level to the ground) σε (you) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) σου (of you) ἐν (within) σοί (you), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἀφήσουσιν (will leave) λίθον (a stone) ἐπὶ (upon) λίθον (a stone) ἐν (within) σοί (you), ἀνθ’ (in place of) ὧν (which) οὐκ (not) ἔγνως (you knew) τὸν (the) καιρὸν (season) τῆς (the) ἐπισκοπῆς (of visitation) σου (of you).”

² πᾶν (Every) κλῆμα (branch) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) μὴ (not) φέρον (bearing) καρπὸν (fruit), αἴρει (He takes away) αὐτό (it); καὶ (and) πᾶν (every one) τὸ (-) καρπὸν (fruit) φέρον (bearing), καθαίρει (He prunes) αὐτὸ (it), ἵνα (that) καρπὸν (fruit) πλείονα (more) φέρῃ (it may bear).

⁶ ἐὰν (If) μή (not) τις (anyone) μένῃ (abide) ἐν (in) ἐμοί (Me), ἐβλήθη (he is thrown) ἔξω (out) ὡς (like) τὸ (the) κλῆμα (branch) καὶ (and) ἐξηράνθη (is dried up), καὶ (and) συνάγουσιν (they gather) αὐτὰ (them) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) βάλλουσιν (cast), καὶ (and) καίεται (it is burned).

⁵ ἔχοντες (having) μόρφωσιν (a form) εὐσεβείας (of godliness) τὴν (-) δὲ (but) δύναμιν (the power) αὐτῆς (of it) ἠρνημένοι (denying). καὶ (And) τούτους (these) ἀποτρέπου (turn away from).

¹⁶ Θεὸν (God) ὁμολογοῦσιν (they profess) εἰδέναι (to know); τοῖς (in) δὲ (however) ἔργοις (works), ἀρνοῦνται (they deny Him), βδελυκτοὶ (detestable) ὄντες (being) καὶ (and) ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient), καὶ (and) πρὸς (for) πᾶν (any) ἔργον (work) ἀγαθὸν (good), ἀδόκιμοι (unfit).

⁷ Γῆ (Land) γὰρ (for) ἡ (-) πιοῦσα (having drunk in) τὸν (the) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτῆς (it) ἐρχόμενον (coming) πολλάκις (often) ὑετόν (rain), καὶ (and) τίκτουσα (producing) βοτάνην (vegetation) εὔθετον (useful) ἐκείνοις (for those) δι’ (for the sake of) οὓς (whom) καὶ (also) γεωργεῖται (it is tilled), μεταλαμβάνει (partakes) εὐλογίας (of blessing) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God). ⁸ ἐκφέρουσα (That bringing forth) δὲ (however) ἀκάνθας (thorns) καὶ (and) τριβόλους (thistles) ἀδόκιμος (is worthless) καὶ (and) κατάρας (a curse) ἐγγύς (near to), ἧς (of which) τὸ (the) τέλος (end is) εἰς (unto) καῦσιν (burning).

²⁰ Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἀποφυγόντες (having escaped) τὰ (the) μιάσματα (pollutions) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐν (through) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τούτοις (in these) δὲ (now) πάλιν (again) ἐμπλακέντες (having been entangled) ἡττῶνται (they are subdued), γέγονεν (has become) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (last state) χείρονα (worse) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first). ²¹ κρεῖττον (Better) γὰρ (for) ἦν (it would have been) αὐτοῖς (for them) μὴ (not) ἐπεγνωκέναι (to have known) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (way) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), ἢ (than) ἐπιγνοῦσιν (having known it), ὑποστρέψαι (to have turned) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) παραδοθείσης (having been delivered) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἁγίας (holy) ἐντολῆς (commandment). ²² συμβέβηκεν (Has happened) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸ (the thing) τῆς (of the) ἀληθοῦς (true) παροιμίας (proverb): “Κύων (A dog) ἐπιστρέψας (having returned) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (its) ἴδιον (own) ἐξέραμα (vomit),” καί (and), “Ὗς (A sow) λουσαμένη (having washed), εἰς (to her) κυλισμὸν (rolling place) βορβόρου (in the mire).”

¹² Οὗτοί (These) εἰσιν (are) οἱ (the ones) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀγάπαις (love feasts) ὑμῶν (of you), σπιλάδες (hidden reefs), συνευωχούμενοι (feasting together with you) ἀφόβως (fearlessly), ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) ποιμαίνοντες (shepherding); νεφέλαι (clouds) ἄνυδροι (without water), ὑπὸ (by) ἀνέμων (winds) παραφερόμεναι (being carried about); δένδρα (trees) φθινοπωρινὰ (autumnal) ἄκαρπα (without fruit), δὶς (twice) ἀποθανόντα (having died), ἐκριζωθέντα (having been uprooted);

¹¹ ὁ (The one) ἀδικῶν (being unrighteous), ἀδικησάτω (let him be unrighteous) ἔτι (still); καὶ (and) ὁ (he who) ῥυπαρὸς (is filthy), ῥυπανθήτω (let him be filthy) ἔτι (still); καὶ (and) ὁ (he who) δίκαιος (is righteous), δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) ποιησάτω (let him practice) ἔτι (still); καὶ (and) ὁ (he who is) ἅγιος (holy), ἁγιασθήτω (let him be holy) ἔτι (still).”
