⁵⁶ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (then) ὅλον (all) γέγονεν (is come to pass), ἵνα (that) πληρωθῶσιν (might be fulfilled) αἱ (the) γραφαὶ (Scriptures) τῶν (of the) προφητῶν (prophets).” Τότε (Then) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) πάντες (all), ἀφέντες (having forsaken) αὐτὸν (Him), ἔφυγον (fled).

²⁴ ὁ (-) μὲν (Indeed) Υἱὸς (the Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ὑπάγει (goes) καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him); οὐαὶ (woe) δὲ (however) τῷ (-) ἀνθρώπῳ (the man) ἐκείνῳ (to that) δι’ (by) οὗ (whom) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοται (is betrayed). καλὸν (Better) ἦν (would it be) αὐτῷ (for him) εἰ (if) οὐκ (not) ἐγεννήθη (had been born) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐκεῖνος (that).”

³¹ Τότε (Then) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Πάντες (All) ὑμεῖς (you) σκανδαλισθήσεσθε (will fall away) ἐν (because of) ἐμοὶ (Me) ἐν (during) τῇ (the) νυκτὶ (night) ταύτῃ (this). γέγραπται (It has been written) γάρ (for): ‘Πατάξω (I will strike) τὸν (the) ποιμένα (shepherd), Καὶ (and) διασκορπισθήσονται (will be scattered) τὰ (the) πρόβατα (sheep) τῆς (of the) ποίμνης (flock).’

⁵⁴ πῶς (How) οὖν (then) πληρωθῶσιν (should be fulfilled) αἱ (the) γραφαὶ (Scriptures), ὅτι (that) οὕτως (so) δεῖ (it must) γενέσθαι (be)?”

⁵⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀφέντες (having left) αὐτὸν (Him), ἔφυγον (fled) πάντες (all). ⁵¹ Καὶ (And) νεανίσκος (a young man) τις (certain) συνηκολούθει (was following) αὐτῷ (Him), περιβεβλημένος (having cast) σινδόνα (a linen cloth) ἐπὶ (about) γυμνοῦ (his naked body); καὶ (and) κρατοῦσιν (they seize) αὐτόν (him), ⁵² ὁ (-) δὲ (and) καταλιπὼν (having left behind) τὴν (the) σινδόνα (linen cloth), γυμνὸς (naked) ἔφυγεν (he fled).

³² ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour), καὶ (and) ἐλήλυθεν (has come), ἵνα (when) σκορπισθῆτε (you will be scattered), ἕκαστος (each) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ἴδια (own), κἀμὲ (and I) μόνον (alone) ἀφῆτε (you shall leave); καὶ (yet) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (I am) μόνος (alone), ὅτι (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐστιν (is).

⁸ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Εἶπον (I have told) ὑμῖν (you) ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He). εἰ (If) οὖν (therefore) ἐμὲ (Me) ζητεῖτε (you seek), ἄφετε (Allow) τούτους (these) ὑπάγειν (to go away),” ⁹ ἵνα (so that) πληρωθῇ (might be fulfilled) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) ὃν (that) εἶπεν (He had spoken) ὅτι (-), “Οὓς (Those whom) δέδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me), οὐκ (not) ἀπώλεσα (I lost) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) οὐδένα (not one).”

¹⁵ Ἠκολούθει (Were following) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) ἄλλος (the other) μαθητής (disciple). ὁ (Since) δὲ (now) μαθητὴς (disciple) ἐκεῖνος (that) ἦν (was) γνωστὸς (known) τῷ (to the) ἀρχιερεῖ (high priest), καὶ (also) συνεισῆλθεν (he entered with) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) αὐλὴν (court) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest). ¹⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πέτρος (Peter) εἱστήκει (stood) πρὸς (at) τῇ (the) θύρᾳ (door) ἔξω (outside). ἐξῆλθεν (Went out) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (the) μαθητὴς (disciple) ὁ (-) ἄλλος (other), ὁ (who was) γνωστὸς (known) τοῦ (to the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest), καὶ (and) εἶπεν (spoke) τῇ (to the) θυρωρῷ (doorkeeper), καὶ (and) εἰσήγαγεν (brought in) τὸν (-) Πέτρον (Peter).

¹⁶ “Ἄνδρες (Men), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἔδει (it was necessary for) πληρωθῆναι (to have been fulfilled) τὴν (the) γραφὴν (Scripture) ἣν (which) προεῖπεν (spoke beforehand) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy) διὰ (by) στόματος (the mouth) Δαυὶδ (of David) περὶ (concerning) Ἰούδα (Judas), τοῦ (the one) γενομένου (having become) ὁδηγοῦ (guide) τοῖς (to those) συλλαβοῦσιν (having arrested) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus);

²³ τοῦτον (Him) τῇ (by the) ὡρισμένῃ (determinate) βουλῇ (plan) καὶ (and) προγνώσει (foreknowledge) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἔκδοτον (delivered up) διὰ (by) χειρὸς (hands) ἀνόμων (lawless), προσπήξαντες (having crucified), ἀνείλατε (You put to death),

¹⁶ Ἐν (In) τῇ (-) πρώτῃ (first) μου (of me) ἀπολογίᾳ (defense), οὐδείς (no one) μοι (me) παρεγένετο (has stood with), ἀλλὰ (but) πάντες (all) με (me) ἐγκατέλιπον (deserted). μὴ (Not) αὐτοῖς (to them) λογισθείη (may it be charged)!
