⁶¹ Ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) ἐκεῖ (there) Μαριὰμ (Mary) ἡ (-) Μαγδαληνὴ (Magdalene), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἄλλη (other) Μαρία (Mary), καθήμεναι (sitting) ἀπέναντι (opposite) τοῦ (the) τάφου (tomb).

¹ Καὶ (And) διαγενομένου (having passed) τοῦ (the) σαββάτου (Sabbath), Μαρία (Mary) ἡ (-) Μαγδαληνὴ (Magdalene), καὶ (and) Μαρία (Mary) ἡ (the mother) τοῦ (-) Ἰακώβου (of James), καὶ (and) Σαλώμη (Salome), ἠγόρασαν (bought) ἀρώματα (spices), ἵνα (that) ἐλθοῦσαι (having come), ἀλείψωσιν (they might anoint) αὐτόν (Him). ² καὶ (And) λίαν (very) πρωῒ (early) τῇ (on the) μιᾷ (first day) τῶν (of the) σαββάτων (week), ἔρχονται (they come) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον* (tomb), ἀνατείλαντος (having arisen) τοῦ (the) ἡλίου (sun). ³ καὶ (And) ἔλεγον (they were saying) πρὸς (among) ἑαυτάς (themselves), “Τίς (Who) ἀποκυλίσει (will roll away) ἡμῖν (for us) τὸν (the) λίθον (stone) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) θύρας (door) τοῦ (of the) μνημείου (tomb)?” ⁴ καὶ (And) ἀναβλέψασαι (having looked up) θεωροῦσιν (they see) ὅτι (that) ἀποκεκύλισται* (has been rolled away) ὁ (the) λίθος (stone); ἦν (it was) γὰρ (for) μέγας (large) σφόδρα (extremely). ⁵ Καὶ (And) εἰσελθοῦσαι (having entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb), εἶδον (they saw) νεανίσκον (a young man) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐν (on) τοῖς (the) δεξιοῖς (right), περιβεβλημένον (clothed in) στολὴν (a robe) λευκήν (white), καὶ (and) ἐξεθαμβήθησαν (they were greatly amazed). ⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) λέγει (he says) αὐταῖς (to them), “Μὴ (Not) ἐκθαμβεῖσθε (be amazed). Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ζητεῖτε (you seek), τὸν (the) Ναζαρηνὸν (Nazarene), τὸν (the One) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified). ἠγέρθη (He is risen)! οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (He is) ὧδε (here)! ἴδε (Behold) ὁ (the) τόπος (place) ὅπου (where) ἔθηκαν (they laid) αὐτόν (Him). ⁷ ἀλλὰ (But) ὑπάγετε (go), εἴπατε (say) τοῖς (the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter) ὅτι (that) Προάγει (He goes before) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee); ἐκεῖ (there) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄψεσθε (will you see), καθὼς (as) εἶπεν (He said) ὑμῖν (to you).” ⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐξελθοῦσαι (having gone out), ἔφυγον (they fled) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) μνημείου (tomb). εἶχεν (Had seized) γὰρ (for) αὐτὰς (them) τρόμος (trembling) καὶ (and) ἔκστασις (amazement), καὶ (and) οὐδενὶ (to none) οὐδὲν (nothing) εἶπαν (they spoke); ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid) γάρ (for).

⁵⁶ ὑποστρέψασαι (Having returned) δὲ (then), ἡτοίμασαν (they prepared) ἀρώματα (spices) καὶ (and) μύρα (anointing oils). Καὶ (And) τὸ (on the) μὲν (indeed) σάββατον (Sabbath) ἡσύχασαν (they rested) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἐντολήν (commandment).

⁵¹ Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), τὸ (the) καταπέτασμα (veil) τοῦ (of the) ναοῦ (temple) ἐσχίσθη (was torn) ἀπ’ (from) ἄνωθεν (top) ἕως (to) κάτω (bottom), εἰς (into) δύο (two); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) ἐσείσθη (was shaken), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) πέτραι (rocks) ἐσχίσθησαν (were split), ⁵² καὶ (and) τὰ (the) μνημεῖα (tombs) ἀνεῴχθησαν (were opened), καὶ (and) πολλὰ (many) σώματα (bodies) τῶν (of the) κεκοιμημένων (having fallen asleep) ἁγίων (saints) ἠγέρθησαν (arose), ⁵³ καὶ (and) ἐξελθόντες (having gone forth) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) μνημείων (tombs) μετὰ (after) τὴν (the) ἔγερσιν (resurrection) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἰσῆλθον (they entered) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἁγίαν (holy) πόλιν (city) καὶ (and) ἐνεφανίσθησαν (appeared) πολλοῖς (to many).

²⁶ ἄφνω (Suddenly) δὲ (then) σεισμὸς (earthquake) ἐγένετο (there was) μέγας (a great), ὥστε (so that) σαλευθῆναι (were shaken) τὰ (the) θεμέλια (foundations) τοῦ (of the) δεσμωτηρίου (prison house); ἠνεῴχθησαν (were opened) δὲ (then) παραχρῆμα (immediately) αἱ (the) θύραι (doors) πᾶσαι (all), καὶ (and) πάντων (of all), τὰ (the) δεσμὰ (chains) ἀνέθη (were loosed).

¹² οἷς (to whom) ἀπεκαλύφθη (it was revealed) ὅτι (that) οὐχ (not) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), ὑμῖν (you) δὲ (however), διηκόνουν (they were serving) αὐτά (in those things) ἃ (which) νῦν (now) ἀνηγγέλη (have been proclaimed) ὑμῖν (to you) διὰ (by) τῶν (those) εὐαγγελισαμένων (having proclaimed the gospel to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (by) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy) ἀποσταλέντι (having been sent) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), εἰς (into) ἃ (which) ἐπιθυμοῦσιν (desire) ἄγγελοι (angels) παρακύψαι (to look).

¹⁹ Καὶ (And) ἠνοίγη (was opened) ὁ (the) ναὸς (temple) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ὁ (-) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), καὶ (and) ὤφθη (was seen) ἡ (the) κιβωτὸς (ark) τῆς (of the) διαθήκης (covenant) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ναῷ (temple) αὐτοῦ (of Him). καὶ (And) ἐγένοντο (there were) ἀστραπαὶ (flashes of lightning), καὶ (and) φωναὶ (voices), καὶ (and) βρονταὶ (thunders), καὶ (and) σεισμὸς (an earthquake), καὶ (and) χάλαζα (hail) μεγάλη (great).

² καὶ (And) μετεμορφώθη (He was transfigured) ἔμπροσθεν (before) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) ἔλαμψεν (shone) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (like) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun), τὰ (-) δὲ (and) ἱμάτια (the clothes) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐγένετο (became) λευκὰ (white) ὡς (as) τὸ (the) φῶς (light).

³ καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐγένετο (became) στίλβοντα (shining) λευκὰ (white) λίαν (exceedingly), οἷα (such as) γναφεὺς (a launderer) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) οὐ (not) δύναται (is able) οὕτως (thus) λευκᾶναι (to whiten).

⁵ Καὶ (And) εἰσελθοῦσαι (having entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb), εἶδον (they saw) νεανίσκον (a young man) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐν (on) τοῖς (the) δεξιοῖς (right), περιβεβλημένον (clothed in) στολὴν (a robe) λευκήν (white), καὶ (and) ἐξεθαμβήθησαν (they were greatly amazed).

¹² καὶ (and) θεωρεῖ (she sees) δύο (two) ἀγγέλους (angels) ἐν (in) λευκοῖς (white) καθεζομένους (sitting), ἕνα (one) πρὸς (at) τῇ (the) κεφαλῇ (head) καὶ (and) ἕνα (one) πρὸς (at) τοῖς (the) ποσίν (feet), ὅπου (where) ἔκειτο (had lain) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus).

¹⁰ καὶ (And) ὡς (as) ἀτενίζοντες (looking intently) ἦσαν (they were) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) οὐρανὸν (heaven) πορευομένου (as was going) αὐτοῦ (He), καὶ (then) ἰδοὺ (behold) ἄνδρες (men) δύο (two) παρειστήκεισαν (stood by) αὐτοῖς (them) ἐν (in) ἐσθήσεσι (apparel) λευκαῖς (white),

¹⁴ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) κεφαλὴ (the head) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) τρίχες (hairs) λευκαὶ (are white), ὡς (as if) ἔριον (wool), λευκόν (white) ὡς (as) χιών (snow); καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (are like) φλὸξ (a flame) πυρός (of fire); ¹⁵ καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόδες (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅμοιοι (are like) χαλκολιβάνῳ (fine bronze), ὡς (as) ἐν (in) καμίνῳ (a furnace) πεπυρωμένης (having been refined); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φωνὴ (voice) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (is like) φωνὴ (the voice) ὑδάτων (of waters) πολλῶν (many); ¹⁶ καὶ (and) ἔχων (He is holding) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δεξιᾷ (right) χειρὶ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀστέρας (stars) ἑπτά (seven), καὶ (and) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ῥομφαία (a sword) δίστομος (two-edged) ὀξεῖα (sharp) ἐκπορευομένη (is going forth); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ὄψις (face) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (is like) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun) φαίνει (shining) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δυνάμει (full strength) αὐτοῦ (of it).

⁴ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἔχεις (you have) ὀλίγα (a few) ὀνόματα (people) ἐν (in) Σάρδεσιν (Sardis) ἃ (who) οὐκ (not) ἐμόλυναν (have soiled) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) περιπατήσουσιν (they will walk) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐν (in) λευκοῖς (white), ὅτι (because) ἄξιοί (worthy) εἰσιν (they are). ⁵ Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming), οὕτως (thus) περιβαλεῖται (will be clothed) ἐν (in) ἱματίοις (garments) λευκοῖς (white). καὶ (And) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐξαλείψω (will I blot out) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) βίβλου (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life), καὶ (and) ὁμολογήσω (I will confess) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἄλλον (another) ἄγγελον (angel) ἰσχυρὸν (mighty) καταβαίνοντα (coming down) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), περιβεβλημένον (clothed with) νεφέλην (a cloud), καὶ (and) ἡ (a) ἶρις (rainbow) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὡς (was like) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόδες (feet) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὡς (like) στῦλοι (pillars) πυρός (of fire),

¹ Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) εἶδον (I saw) ἄλλον (another) ἄγγελον (angel) καταβαίνοντα (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἔχοντα (having) ἐξουσίαν (authority) μεγάλην (great); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) ἐφωτίσθη (was illuminated) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) δόξης (glory) αὐτοῦ (of him).

⁶⁵ Ἔφη (Said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate), “Ἔχετε (You have) κουστωδίαν (a guard). ὑπάγετε (Go) ἀσφαλίσασθε (make it as secure) ὡς (as) οἴδατε (you know how).” ⁶⁶ οἱ (-) δὲ (And) πορευθέντες (having gone), ἠσφαλίσαντο (they made secure) τὸν (the) τάφον (tomb), σφραγίσαντες (having sealed) τὸν (the) λίθον (stone), μετὰ (with) τῆς (the) κουστωδίας (guard).

¹¹ Πορευομένων (As were going) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (they), ἰδού (behold), τινες (some) τῆς (of the) κουστωδίας (guard), ἐλθόντες (having gone) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city), ἀπήγγειλαν (reported) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) ἅπαντα (all) τὰ (the things) γενόμενα (having been done).

³ Ἐν (In) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) πορεύεσθαι (proceeding), ἐγένετο (it came to pass) αὐτὸν (as he) ἐγγίζειν (draws near) τῇ (-) Δαμασκῷ (to Damascus), ἐξαίφνης (suddenly) τε (also) αὐτὸν (him) περιήστραψεν (flashed around) φῶς (a light) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven). ⁴ καὶ (And) πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), ἤκουσεν (he heard) φωνὴν (a voice) λέγουσαν (saying) αὐτῷ (to him), “Σαοὺλ (Saul), Σαούλ (Saul), τί (why) με (Me) διώκεις (do you persecute)?” ⁵ Εἶπεν (He said) δέ (then), “Τίς (Who) εἶ (are You), Κύριε (Lord)?” Ὁ (-) δέ (And He said), “Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὃν (whom) σὺ (you) διώκεις (are persecuting). ⁶ ἀλλὰ (But) ἀνάστηθι (rise up) καὶ (and) εἴσελθε (enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city), καὶ (and) λαληθήσεταί (it will be told) σοι (you) ὅ (that) τί (what) σε (you) δεῖ (it behooves) ποιεῖν (to do).” ⁷ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἄνδρες (the men) οἱ (-) συνοδεύοντες (traveling with) αὐτῷ (him) εἱστήκεισαν (stood) ἐνεοί (speechless), ἀκούοντες (hearing) μὲν (indeed) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice), μηδένα (no one) δὲ (however) θεωροῦντες (seeing).

²⁹ Αἰτήσας (Having called for) δὲ (now) φῶτα (lights), εἰσεπήδησεν (he rushed in), καὶ (and) ἔντρομος (terrified) γενόμενος (having become), προσέπεσεν (he fell down before) τῷ (-) Παύλῳ (Paul) καὶ (and) ‹τῷ› (-) Σιλᾷ (Silas).

¹⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) εἶδον (I saw) αὐτόν (Him), ἔπεσα (I fell) πρὸς (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (as though) νεκρός (dead). καὶ (And) ἔθηκεν (He placed) τὴν (the) δεξιὰν (right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me), λέγων (saying), “Μὴ (Not) φοβοῦ (fear). ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (First) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἔσχατος (Last),

²⁷ Εὐθὺς (Immediately) δὲ (now) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) «ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς» (Jesus) αὐτοῖς (to them), λέγων (saying), “Θαρσεῖτε (Take courage)! ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (it is), μὴ (not) φοβεῖσθε (fear).”

¹⁰ τότε (Then) λέγει (says) αὐταῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μὴ (Not) φοβεῖσθε (fear). ὑπάγετε (Go), ἀπαγγείλατε (tell) τοῖς (the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers), μου (of Me) ἵνα (so that) ἀπέλθωσιν (they should go) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee), κἀκεῖ (and there) με (Me) ὄψονται (will they see).”

⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) λέγει (he says) αὐταῖς (to them), “Μὴ (Not) ἐκθαμβεῖσθε (be amazed). Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ζητεῖτε (you seek), τὸν (the) Ναζαρηνὸν (Nazarene), τὸν (the One) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified). ἠγέρθη (He is risen)! οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (He is) ὧδε (here)! ἴδε (Behold) ὁ (the) τόπος (place) ὅπου (where) ἔθηκαν (they laid) αὐτόν (Him).

¹² καὶ (And) ἐταράχθη (was troubled) Ζαχαρίας (Zechariah) ἰδών (having seen him), καὶ (and) φόβος (fear) ἐπέπεσεν (fell) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτόν (him). ¹³ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel), “Μὴ (Not) φοβοῦ (fear), Ζαχαρία (Zechariah), διότι (because) εἰσηκούσθη (has been heard) ἡ (the) δέησίς (prayer) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γυνή (wife) σου (of You) Ἐλισάβετ (Elizabeth) γεννήσει (will bear) υἱόν (a son) σοι (to you), καὶ (and) καλέσεις (you shall call) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) Ἰωάννην (John).

³⁰ καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel) αὐτῇ (to her), “Μὴ (Not) φοβοῦ (fear), Μαριάμ (Mary); εὗρες (you have found) γὰρ (for) χάριν (favor) παρὰ (with) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God);

⁵ ἐμφόβων (Terrified) δὲ (then) γενομένων (having become) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) κλινουσῶν (bowing) τὰ (the) πρόσωπα (faces) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), εἶπαν (they said) πρὸς (to) αὐτάς (them), “Τί (Why) ζητεῖτε (seek you) τὸν (the) ζῶντα (living) μετὰ (among) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead)?

¹³ Καὶ (And) λέγουσιν (say) αὐτῇ (to her) ἐκεῖνοι (they), “Γύναι (Woman), τί (why) κλαίεις (weep you)?” Λέγει (She says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὅτι (Because) Ἦραν (they have taken away) τὸν (the) Κύριόν (Lord) μου (of me), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) οἶδα (I know) ποῦ (where) ἔθηκαν (they have laid) αὐτόν (Him).” ¹⁴ Ταῦτα (These things) εἰποῦσα (having said), ἐστράφη (she turned) εἰς (back) τὰ (-) ὀπίσω (around), καὶ (and) θεωρεῖ (she sees) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ἑστῶτα (standing there), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ᾔδει (had known) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (it is). ¹⁵ λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Γύναι (Woman), τί (why) κλαίεις (do you weep)? τίνα (Whom) ζητεῖς (do you seek)?” Ἐκείνη (She), δοκοῦσα (thinking) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) κηπουρός (gardener) ἐστιν (He is), λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Κύριε (Sir), εἰ (if) σὺ (you) ἐβάστασας (have carried off) αὐτόν (him), εἰπέ (tell) μοι (me) ποῦ (where) ἔθηκας (you have laid) αὐτόν (Him), κἀγὼ (and I) αὐτὸν (him) ἀρῶ (will take away).”

¹⁴ Οὐχὶ (Not) πάντες (all) εἰσὶν (are they) λειτουργικὰ (ministering) πνεύματα (spirits), εἰς (for) διακονίαν (service) ἀποστελλόμενα (being sent forth), διὰ (for the sake of) τοὺς (those) μέλλοντας (being about) κληρονομεῖν (to inherit) σωτηρίαν (salvation)?

¹⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) εἶδον (I saw) αὐτόν (Him), ἔπεσα (I fell) πρὸς (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (as though) νεκρός (dead). καὶ (And) ἔθηκεν (He placed) τὴν (the) δεξιὰν (right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me), λέγων (saying), “Μὴ (Not) φοβοῦ (fear). ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (First) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἔσχατος (Last), ¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Ζῶν (Living One); καὶ (and) ἐγενόμην (I was) νεκρὸς (dead), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold) ζῶν (living) εἰμι (I am) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) ἔχω (I have) τὰς (the) κλεῖς (keys) τοῦ (of) θανάτου (Death) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of) ᾅδου (Hades).

⁴⁰ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ἦν (was) Ἰωνᾶς (Jonah) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) κοιλίᾳ (belly) τοῦ (of the) κήτους (great fish) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) καὶ (and) τρεῖς (three) νύκτας (nights), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) καὶ (and) τρεῖς (three) νύκτας (nights).

²¹ Ἀπὸ (From) τότε (that time) ἤρξατο (began) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) δεικνύειν (to show) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) ἀπελθεῖν (to go away), καὶ (and) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθῆναι (to be raised).

⁹ Καὶ (And) καταβαινόντων (as were descending) αὐτῶν (they) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) ὄρους (mountain), ἐνετείλατο (instructed) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), λέγων (saying), “Μηδενὶ (To no one) εἴπητε (tell) τὸ (the) ὅραμα (vision), ἕως (until) οὗ (that) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἐγερθῇ (is risen).”

²³ καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him), καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθήσεται (He will be raised up).” καὶ (And) ἐλυπήθησαν (they were grieved) σφόδρα (deeply).

¹⁹ καὶ (and) παραδώσουσιν (they will betray) αὐτὸν (Him) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) εἰς (unto), τὸ (-) ἐμπαῖξαι (to mock) καὶ (and) μαστιγῶσαι (to flog) καὶ (and) σταυρῶσαι (to crucify); καὶ (and) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐγερθήσεται (He will rise again).”

³¹ Τότε (Then) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Πάντες (All) ὑμεῖς (you) σκανδαλισθήσεσθε (will fall away) ἐν (because of) ἐμοὶ (Me) ἐν (during) τῇ (the) νυκτὶ (night) ταύτῃ (this). γέγραπται (It has been written) γάρ (for): ‘Πατάξω (I will strike) τὸν (the) ποιμένα (shepherd), Καὶ (and) διασκορπισθήσονται (will be scattered) τὰ (the) πρόβατα (sheep) τῆς (of the) ποίμνης (flock).’ ³² Μετὰ (After) δὲ (however) τὸ (-) ἐγερθῆναί (being raised), με (I) προάξω (will go before) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee).”

⁶³ λέγοντες (saying), “Κύριε (Sir), ἐμνήσθημεν (we have remembered) ὅτι (how) ἐκεῖνος (that) ὁ (-) πλάνος (deceiver) εἶπεν (said) ἔτι (while) ζῶν (living), ‘Μετὰ (After) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἐγείρομαι (I arise).’

³¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) αὐτοὺς (them) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) μετὰ (after) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἀναστῆναι (to rise again).

⁶ οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (He is) ὧδε (here), ἀλλὰ (but) ἠγέρθη (He is risen)! μνήσθητε (Remember) ὡς (how) ἐλάλησεν (He spoke) ὑμῖν (to you), ἔτι (yet) ὢν (being) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Γαλιλαίᾳ (Galilee), ⁷ λέγων (saying), ‘Τὸν (The) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ὅτι (-) δεῖ (it behooves) παραδοθῆναι (to be delivered) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men) ἁμαρτωλῶν (sinful), καὶ (and) σταυρωθῆναι (to be crucified), καὶ (and) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἀναστῆναι (to arise).’” ⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐμνήσθησαν (they remembered) τῶν (the) ῥημάτων (words) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

¹² Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πέτρος (Peter), ἀναστὰς (having risen up), ἔδραμεν (ran) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb), καὶ (and) παρακύψας (having stooped down), βλέπει (he sees) τὰ (the) ὀθόνια (linen strips) μόνα (only), καὶ (and) ἀπῆλθεν (he went away), πρὸς (in) αὑτὸν (himself) θαυμάζων (wondering at) τὸ (that) γεγονός (having come to pass).

²³ καὶ (and) μὴ (not) εὑροῦσαι (having found) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἦλθον (they came) λέγουσαι (declaring) καὶ (also) ὀπτασίαν (a vision) ἀγγέλων (of angels) ἑωρακέναι (to have seen), οἳ (who) λέγουσιν (say) αὐτὸν (He) ζῆν (is alive).

⁴⁴ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (now) πρὸς (unto) αὐτούς (to them), “Οὗτοι (These are) οἱ (the) λόγοι (words) μου (of me), οὓς (which) ἐλάλησα (I spoke) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἔτι (still) ὢν (being) σὺν (with) ὑμῖν (you), ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it behooves) πληρωθῆναι (to be fulfilled) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law) Μωϋσέως (of Moses), καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) προφήταις (Prophets) καὶ (and) ψαλμοῖς (the Psalms) περὶ (concerning) ἐμοῦ (Me).”

¹⁹ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Λύσατε (Destroy) τὸν (the) ναὸν (temple) τοῦτον (this), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τρισὶν (three) ἡμέραις (days) ἐγερῶ (I will raise up) αὐτόν (it).”

¹⁷ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτό (this), με (Me) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἀγαπᾷ (loves), ὅτι (because) ἐγὼ (I) τίθημι (lay down) τὴν (the) ψυχήν (life) μου (of Me), ἵνα (that) πάλιν (again) λάβω (I might take) αὐτήν (it).

⁴ ἔτρεχον (Were running) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) δύο (two) ὁμοῦ (together), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἄλλος (other) μαθητὴς (disciple) προέδραμεν (ran ahead) τάχιον (faster) τοῦ (-) Πέτρου (than Peter) καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came) πρῶτος (first) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb). ⁵ καὶ (And) παρακύψας (having stooped down), βλέπει (he sees) κείμενα (lying there) τὰ (the) ὀθόνια (linen cloths); οὐ (not) μέντοι (however) εἰσῆλθεν (he entered). ⁶ Ἔρχεται (Comes) οὖν (then) καὶ (also) Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) ἀκολουθῶν (following) αὐτῷ (him), καὶ (and) εἰσῆλθεν (he entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb) καὶ (and) θεωρεῖ (sees) τὰ (the) ὀθόνια (linen cloths) κείμενα (lying there), ⁷ καὶ (and) τὸ (the) σουδάριον (soudarion), ὃ (which) ἦν (was) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) κεφαλῆς (head) αὐτοῦ (of Him), οὐ (not) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ὀθονίων (linen cloths) κείμενον (lying), ἀλλὰ (but) χωρὶς (by itself) ἐντετυλιγμένον (having been folded up) εἰς (in) ἕνα (a) τόπον (place). ⁸ τότε (Then) οὖν (therefore) εἰσῆλθεν (entered) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) ἄλλος (other) μαθητὴς (disciple), ὁ (-) ἐλθὼν (having come) πρῶτος (first) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb), καὶ (and) εἶδεν (he saw) καὶ (and) ἐπίστευσεν (believed); ⁹ οὐδέπω (not yet) γὰρ (for) ᾔδεισαν (understood they) τὴν (the) γραφὴν (Scripture) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it behooves) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἀναστῆναι (to rise).

²⁵ ἰδοὺ (Behold), προείρηκα (I have foretold it) ὑμῖν (to you).

³² Μετὰ (After) δὲ (however) τὸ (-) ἐγερθῆναί (being raised), με (I) προάξω (will go before) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee).”

¹⁶ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἕνδεκα (the eleven) μαθηταὶ (disciples) ἐπορεύθησαν (went) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee), εἰς (to) τὸ (the) ὄρος (mountain) οὗ (where) ἐτάξατο (assigned) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus). ¹⁷ καὶ (And) ἰδόντες (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him) προσεκύνησαν (they worshiped); οἱ (some) δὲ (however) ἐδίστασαν (doubted).

²⁸ Ἀλλὰ (But) μετὰ (after) τὸ (-) ἐγερθῆναί (having arisen), με (I) προάξω (will go before) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee).”

¹⁰ ἐκείνη (She) πορευθεῖσα (having gone), ἀπήγγειλεν (told it) τοῖς (to those) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him), γενομένοις (having been) πενθοῦσι (mourning) καὶ (and) κλαίουσιν (weeping).

¹³ κἀκεῖνοι (And they), ἀπελθόντες (having gone), ἀπήγγειλαν (told it) τοῖς (to the) λοιποῖς (rest); οὐδὲ (neither) ἐκείνοις (them) ἐπίστευσαν (did they believe).

⁹ καὶ (And) ὑποστρέψασαι (having returned) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) μνημείου (tomb), ἀπήγγειλαν (they related) ταῦτα (these things) πάντα (all) τοῖς (to the) ἕνδεκα (eleven) καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (to all) τοῖς (the) λοιποῖς (rest). ¹⁰ ἦσαν (It was) δὲ (now) ἡ (-) Μαγδαληνὴ (Magdalene) Μαρία (Mary), καὶ (and) Ἰωάννα (Joanna), καὶ (and) Μαρία (Mary) ἡ (the mother) Ἰακώβου (of James), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) λοιπαὶ (other women) σὺν (with) αὐταῖς (them), ἔλεγον (telling) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀποστόλους (apostles) ταῦτα (these things).

²² Ἀλλὰ (However) καὶ (also) γυναῖκές (women) τινες (certain) ἐξ (out from) ἡμῶν (us) ἐξέστησαν (astonished) ἡμᾶς (us). γενόμεναι (Having been) ὀρθριναὶ (early) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb) ²³ καὶ (and) μὴ (not) εὑροῦσαι (having found) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἦλθον (they came) λέγουσαι (declaring) καὶ (also) ὀπτασίαν (a vision) ἀγγέλων (of angels) ἑωρακέναι (to have seen), οἳ (who) λέγουσιν (say) αὐτὸν (He) ζῆν (is alive). ²⁴ καὶ (And) ἀπῆλθόν (went) τινες (some) τῶν (of those) σὺν (with) ἡμῖν (us) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb) καὶ (and) εὗρον (found it) οὕτως (so), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) αἱ (the) γυναῖκες (women) εἶπον (said); αὐτὸν (Him) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) εἶδον (they saw).”

³⁴ λέγοντας (saying) ὅτι (-), “Ὄντως (Indeed) ἠγέρθη (has risen) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) καὶ (and) ὤφθη (He has appeared) Σίμωνι (to Simon).”

²⁹ καὶ (And) νῦν (now) εἴρηκα (I have told) ὑμῖν (you) πρὶν (before) γενέσθαι (it comes to pass), ἵνα (that) ὅταν (when) γένηται (it shall have come to pass), πιστεύσητε (you might believe).

⁴ ἀλλὰ (But) ταῦτα (these things) λελάληκα (I have said) ὑμῖν (to you), ἵνα (so that) ὅταν (when) ἔλθῃ (might have come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) αὐτῶν (of them), μνημονεύητε (you may remember) αὐτῶν (them), ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) εἶπον (said them) ὑμῖν (to you). ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐξ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning) οὐκ (not) εἶπον (I said), ὅτι (because) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) ἤμην (I was).

¹⁷ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μή (Not) μου (Me) ἅπτου (touch), οὔπω (not yet) γὰρ (for) ἀναβέβηκα (have I ascended) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father); πορεύου (go) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφούς (brothers) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) εἰπὲ (say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀναβαίνω (I am ascending) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Πατέρα (Father) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and to) Θεόν (God) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Θεὸν (God) ὑμῶν (of you).’” ¹⁸ Ἔρχεται (Comes) Μαριὰμ (Mary) ἡ (-) Μαγδαληνὴ (Magdalene) ἀγγέλλουσα (bringing word) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) ὅτι (-), “Ἑώρακα (I have seen) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord),” καὶ (and that) ταῦτα (these things) εἶπεν (He had said) αὐτῇ (to her).

¹ Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things), ἐφανέρωσεν (revealed) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) πάλιν (again) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) ἐπὶ (at) τῆς (the) θαλάσσης (sea) τῆς (-) Τιβεριάδος (of Tiberias). ἐφανέρωσεν (He revealed Himself) δὲ (now) οὕτως (in this way): ² ἦσαν (They were) ὁμοῦ (together), Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter), καὶ (and) Θωμᾶς (Thomas) ὁ (-) λεγόμενος (called) Δίδυμος (Didymus), καὶ (and) Ναθαναὴλ (Nathanael) ὁ (-) ἀπὸ (from) Κανᾶ (Cana) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (of Galilee), καὶ (and) οἱ (the sons) τοῦ (-) Ζεβεδαίου (of Zebedee), καὶ (and) ἄλλοι (others) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (His) δύο (two). ³ λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter), “Ὑπάγω (I am going) ἁλιεύειν (to fish).” Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἐρχόμεθα (Come) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) σὺν (with) σοί (you).” ἐξῆλθον (They went forth) καὶ (and) ἐνέβησαν (went up) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat), καὶ (and) ἐν (during) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) νυκτὶ (night) ἐπίασαν (they caught) οὐδέν (nothing). ⁴ Πρωΐας (Morning) δὲ (now) ἤδη (already) γενομένης* (having come), ἔστη (stood) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (on) τὸν (the) αἰγιαλόν (shore); οὐ (not) μέντοι (however) ᾔδεισαν (knew) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (it is). ⁵ λέγει (Says) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Παιδία (Children), μή (not) τι (any) προσφάγιον (fish) ἔχετε (have you)?” Ἀπεκρίθησαν (They answered) αὐτῷ (Him), “Οὔ (No).” ⁶ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Βάλετε (Cast) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) δεξιὰ (right) μέρη (side) τοῦ (of the) πλοίου (boat) τὸ (the) δίκτυον (net), καὶ (and) εὑρήσετε (you will find some).” ἔβαλον (They cast) οὖν (therefore), καὶ (and) οὐκέτι (not) αὐτὸ (it) ἑλκύσαι (to haul in) ἴσχυον (were they able), ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) πλήθους (multitude) τῶν (of the) ἰχθύων (fish). ⁷ Λέγει (Says) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (the) μαθητὴς (disciple) ἐκεῖνος (that) ὃν (whom) ἠγάπα (loved) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter), “Ὁ (The) Κύριός (Lord) ἐστιν (it is).” Σίμων (Simon) οὖν (therefore) Πέτρος (Peter), ἀκούσας (having heard) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Κύριός (Lord) ἐστιν (it is), τὸν (the) ἐπενδύτην (outer garment) διεζώσατο (put on)— ἦν (he was) γὰρ (for) γυμνός (naked)— καὶ (and) ἔβαλεν (he cast) ἑαυτὸν (himself) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). ⁸ οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἄλλοι (the other) μαθηταὶ (disciples) τῷ (in the) πλοιαρίῳ (boat) ἦλθον (came), οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) ἦσαν (were they) μακρὰν (far) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) γῆς (land), ἀλλὰ (but) ὡς (about) ἀπὸ (away) πηχῶν (cubits) διακοσίων (two hundred), σύροντες (dragging) τὸ (the) δίκτυον (net) τῶν (with the) ἰχθύων (fish). ⁹ Ὡς (When) οὖν (therefore) ἀπέβησαν (they got out) εἰς (onto) τὴν (the) γῆν (land), βλέπουσιν (they see) ἀνθρακιὰν (a fire of coals) κειμένην (lying), καὶ (and) ὀψάριον (fish) ἐπικείμενον (lying on it), καὶ (and) ἄρτον (bread). ¹⁰ Λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἐνέγκατε (Bring) ἀπὸ (some of) τῶν (the) ὀψαρίων (fish) ὧν (that) ἐπιάσατε (you have caught) νῦν (now).” ¹¹ ἀνέβη (Went up) ‹οὖν› (therefore) Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) εἵλκυσεν (drew) τὸ (the) δίκτυον (net) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (land), μεστὸν (full) ἰχθύων (of fish) μεγάλων (large), ἑκατὸν (a hundred) πεντήκοντα (fifty) τριῶν (three); καὶ (although) τοσούτων (so many) ὄντων (there are), οὐκ (not) ἐσχίσθη (was torn) τὸ (the) δίκτυον (net). ¹² Λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Δεῦτε (Come), ἀριστήσατε (have breakfast).” οὐδεὶς (None) ‹δὲ› (however) ἐτόλμα (dared) τῶν (of the) μαθητῶν (disciples) ἐξετάσαι (to ask) αὐτόν (Him), “Σὺ (You) τίς (who) εἶ (are)?” εἰδότες (knowing) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Κύριός (Lord) ἐστιν (it is). ¹³ ἔρχεται (Comes) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) λαμβάνει (takes) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) καὶ (and) δίδωσιν (gives it) αὐτοῖς (to them), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ὀψάριον (fish) ὁμοίως (likewise). ¹⁴ Τοῦτο (This is) ἤδη (now) τρίτον (the third time) ἐφανερώθη (was revealed) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples), ἐγερθεὶς (having been raised) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead).

⁴ καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) ἐτάφη (He was buried), καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) ἐγήγερται (He was raised) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) κατὰ (according to) τὰς (the) γραφάς (Scriptures),

⁶ ἔπειτα (Thereafter) ὤφθη (He appeared) ἐπάνω (to more than) πεντακοσίοις (five hundred) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) ἐφάπαξ (at once), ἐξ (of) ὧν (whom) οἱ (the) πλείονες (greater part) μένουσιν (remain) ἕως (until) ἄρτι (now); τινὲς (some) δὲ (however) ἐκοιμήθησαν (have fallen asleep).

⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐξελθοῦσαι (having gone out), ἔφυγον (they fled) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) μνημείου (tomb). εἶχεν (Had seized) γὰρ (for) αὐτὰς (them) τρόμος (trembling) καὶ (and) ἔκστασις (amazement), καὶ (and) οὐδενὶ (to none) οὐδὲν (nothing) εἶπαν (they spoke); ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid) γάρ (for).

³⁶ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (of them) λαλούντων (as they were telling), αὐτὸς (He Himself) ἔστη (stood) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (midst) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you).” ³⁷ πτοηθέντες (Having been terrified) δὲ (however), καὶ (and) ἔμφοβοι (filled with fear) γενόμενοι (having been), ἐδόκουν (they were thinking themselves) πνεῦμα (a spirit) θεωρεῖν (to see). ³⁸ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (Why) τεταραγμένοι (troubled) ἐστέ (are you), καὶ (and) διὰ (through) τί (why) διαλογισμοὶ (doubts) ἀναβαίνουσιν (do come up) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you)? ³⁹ ἴδετε (See) τὰς (the) χεῖράς (hands) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) μου (of Me), ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) αὐτός (He). ψηλαφήσατέ (Touch) με (Me) καὶ (and) ἴδετε (see), ὅτι (for) πνεῦμα (a spirit) σάρκα (flesh) καὶ (and) ὀστέα (bones) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has), καθὼς (as) ἐμὲ (Me) θεωρεῖτε (you see) ἔχοντα (having).” ⁴⁰ καὶ (And) τοῦτο (this) εἰπὼν (having said), ἔδειξεν (He showed) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet). ⁴¹ Ἔτι (Still) δὲ (now), ἀπιστούντων (while they were disbelieving) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀπὸ (for) τῆς (the) χαρᾶς (joy) καὶ (and) θαυμαζόντων (amazement), εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἔχετέ (Have you) τι (anything) βρώσιμον (to eat) ἐνθάδε (here)?”

²⁰ ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) κλαύσετε (will weep) καὶ (and) θρηνήσετε (will lament) ὑμεῖς (you), ὁ (-) δὲ (but) κόσμος (the world) χαρήσεται (will rejoice). ὑμεῖς (You) λυπηθήσεσθε (will be grieved), ἀλλ’ (but) ἡ (the) λύπη (grief) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) χαρὰν (joy) γενήσεται (will turn).

²² καὶ (Also) ὑμεῖς (you) οὖν (therefore), νῦν (now) μὲν (indeed) λύπην (grief) ἔχετε (have); πάλιν (again) δὲ (however) ὄψομαι (I will see) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) χαρήσεται (will rejoice) ὑμῶν (your) ἡ (-) καρδία (heart), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) χαρὰν (joy) ὑμῶν (of you) οὐδεὶς (no one) αἴρει (will take) ἀφ’ (from) ὑμῶν (you).

²⁰ καὶ (And) τοῦτο (this) εἰπὼν (having said), ἔδειξεν (He showed) 〈καὶ〉 (both) τὰς (His) χεῖρας (hands) καὶ (and) τὴν (His) πλευρὰν (side) αὐτοῖς (to them). Ἐχάρησαν (Rejoiced) οὖν (then) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples), ἰδόντες (having seen) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord). ²¹ Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) πάλιν (again), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you); καθὼς (as) ἀπέσταλκέν (has sent forth) με (me) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father), κἀγὼ (I also) πέμπω (send) ὑμᾶς (you).”

³³ οἱ (Those) δὲ (then) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πλοίῳ (boat) προσεκύνησαν (worshiped) αὐτῷ (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἀληθῶς (Truly), Θεοῦ (of God) Υἱὸς (Son) εἶ (You are)!”

¹⁷ καὶ (And) ἰδόντες (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him) προσεκύνησαν (they worshiped); οἱ (some) δὲ (however) ἐδίστασαν (doubted).

⁹ «Ἀναστὰς (Having risen) δὲ (now) πρωῒ (early the) πρώτῃ (first day) σαββάτου (of the week), ἐφάνη (He appeared) πρῶτον (first) Μαρίᾳ (to Mary) τῇ (-) Μαγδαληνῇ (Magdalene), παρ’ (from) ἧς (whom) ἐκβεβλήκει (He had cast out) ἑπτὰ (seven) δαιμόνια (demons). ¹⁰ ἐκείνη (She) πορευθεῖσα (having gone), ἀπήγγειλεν (told it) τοῖς (to those) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him), γενομένοις (having been) πενθοῦσι (mourning) καὶ (and) κλαίουσιν (weeping).

²⁸ καὶ (And) εἰσελθὼν (having come) πρὸς (to) αὐτὴν (her), εἶπεν (he said), “Χαῖρε (Greetings), κεχαριτωμένη (you favored with grace)! ὁ (The) Κύριος (Lord is) μετὰ (with) σοῦ (you).”

³⁸ καὶ (and) στᾶσα (having stood) ὀπίσω (behind Him) παρὰ (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) κλαίουσα (weeping), τοῖς (the) δάκρυσιν (tears) ἤρξατο (she began) βρέχειν (to wet) τοὺς (with the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ταῖς (with the) θριξὶν (hairs) τῆς (of the) κεφαλῆς (head) αὐτῆς (of her), ἐξέμασσεν (she was wiping them), καὶ (and) κατεφίλει (was kissing) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἤλειφεν (was anointing them) τῷ (with the) μύρῳ (fragrant oil).

⁵² καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) προσκυνήσαντες* (having worshiped) αὐτὸν (Him), ὑπέστρεψαν (returned) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) μετὰ (with) χαρᾶς (joy) μεγάλης (great),

³ ἡ (-) οὖν (Therefore) Μαριὰμ (Mary), λαβοῦσα (having taken) λίτραν (a litra) μύρου (of fragrant oil) νάρδου (of nard) πιστικῆς (pure) πολυτίμου (of great price), ἤλειψεν (anointed) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) καὶ (and) ἐξέμαξεν (wiped) ταῖς (with the) θριξὶν (hair) αὐτῆς (of her) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him); ἡ (the) δὲ (now) οἰκία (house) ἐπληρώθη (was filled) ἐκ (with) τῆς (the) ὀσμῆς (fragrance) τοῦ (of the) μύρου (oil).

¹⁴ Ταῦτα (These things) εἰποῦσα (having said), ἐστράφη (she turned) εἰς (back) τὰ (-) ὀπίσω (around), καὶ (and) θεωρεῖ (she sees) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ἑστῶτα (standing there), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ᾔδει (had known) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (it is). ¹⁵ λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Γύναι (Woman), τί (why) κλαίεις (do you weep)? τίνα (Whom) ζητεῖς (do you seek)?” Ἐκείνη (She), δοκοῦσα (thinking) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) κηπουρός (gardener) ἐστιν (He is), λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Κύριε (Sir), εἰ (if) σὺ (you) ἐβάστασας (have carried off) αὐτόν (him), εἰπέ (tell) μοι (me) ποῦ (where) ἔθηκας (you have laid) αὐτόν (Him), κἀγὼ (and I) αὐτὸν (him) ἀρῶ (will take away).” ¹⁶ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μαριάμ (Mary).” Στραφεῖσα (Having turned around), ἐκείνη (she) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to Him) Ἑβραϊστί (in Hebrew), “Ραββουνι (Rabboni),” ὃ (that) λέγεται (is to say), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher).” ¹⁷ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μή (Not) μου (Me) ἅπτου (touch), οὔπω (not yet) γὰρ (for) ἀναβέβηκα (have I ascended) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father); πορεύου (go) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφούς (brothers) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) εἰπὲ (say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀναβαίνω (I am ascending) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Πατέρα (Father) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and to) Θεόν (God) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Θεὸν (God) ὑμῶν (of you).’”

¹⁹ Οὔσης (It being) οὖν (therefore) ὀψίας (evening) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐκείνῃ (same), τῇ (the) μιᾷ (first) σαββάτων (of the week), καὶ (and) τῶν (the) θυρῶν (doors) κεκλεισμένων (having been shut), ὅπου (where) ἦσαν (were) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) διὰ (through) τὸν (the) φόβον (fear) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), ἦλθεν (came) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) ἔστη (stood) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) μέσον (midst), καὶ (and) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you).”

²⁸ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Θωμᾶς (Thomas) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ὁ (The) Κύριός (Lord) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Θεός (God) μου (of me)!”

¹¹ Λοιπόν (Finally), ἀδελφοί (brothers), χαίρετε (rejoice)! καταρτίζεσθε (Be perfected), παρακαλεῖσθε (be exhorted), τὸ (be of the) αὐτὸ (same) φρονεῖτε (mind), εἰρηνεύετε (be at peace). καὶ (And) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) τῆς (-) ἀγάπης (of love) καὶ (and) εἰρήνης (peace) ἔσται (will be) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you).

⁹ ἰδοὺ (Behold), διδῶ (I give) ἐκ (those from) τῆς (the) συναγωγῆς (synagogue) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan)— τῶν (those) λεγόντων (declaring) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) Ἰουδαίους (Jews) εἶναι (to be), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (are), ἀλλὰ (but) ψεύδονται (they lie)— ἰδοὺ (behold), ποιήσω (I will cause) αὐτοὺς (them) ἵνα (that) ἥξουσιν (they will come) καὶ (and) προσκυνήσουσιν (will worship) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ποδῶν (feet) σου (of you), καὶ (and) γνῶσιν (they shall know) ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) ἠγάπησά (have loved) σε (you).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I looked), καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνὴν (the voice) ἀγγέλων (of angels) πολλῶν (many) κύκλῳ (around) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) ζῴων (living creatures), καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders); καὶ (and) ἦν (was) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number) αὐτῶν (of them) μυριάδες (myriads) μυριάδων (of myriads) καὶ (and) χιλιάδες (thousands) χιλιάδων (of thousands), ¹² λέγοντες (saying) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud): “Ἄξιόν* (Worthy) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) Ἀρνίον (Lamb) τὸ (-) ἐσφαγμένον (having been slain), λαβεῖν (to receive) τὴν (the) δύναμιν (power) καὶ (and) πλοῦτον (riches) καὶ (and) σοφίαν (wisdom) καὶ (and) ἰσχὺν (strength) καὶ (and) τιμὴν (honor) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) εὐλογίαν (blessing)!” ¹³ Καὶ (And) πᾶν (every) κτίσμα (creature) ὃ (which) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ὑποκάτω (under) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) θαλάσσης (sea) 〈ἐστίν〉 (is), καὶ (and) τὰ (-) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them) πάντα (everything), ἤκουσα (I heard) λέγοντας (saying): “Τῷ (To the One) καθημένῳ (sitting) ἐπὶ (on) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne), καὶ (and) τῷ (to the) Ἀρνίῳ (Lamb), ἡ (-) εὐλογία (blessing) καὶ (and) ἡ (-) τιμὴ (honor) καὶ (and) ἡ (-) δόξα (glory) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) κράτος (might) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).” ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) τὰ (the) τέσσαρα (four) ζῷα (living creatures) ἔλεγον (kept saying), “Ἀμήν (Amen).” καὶ (And) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) ἔπεσαν (fell down) καὶ (and) προσεκύνησαν (worshiped).

⁴⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said) τῷ (to the one) λέγοντι (telling) αὐτῷ (Him), “Τίς (Who) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) τίνες (who) εἰσὶν (are) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of Me)?” ⁴⁹ καὶ (And) ἐκτείνας (having stretched out) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπὶ (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἶπεν (He said), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of Me). ⁵⁰ ὅστις (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν (-) ποιήσῃ (shall do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens), αὐτός (he) μου (My) ἀδελφὸς (brother) καὶ (and) ἀδελφὴ (sister) καὶ (and) μήτηρ (mother) ἐστίν (is).”

⁴⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) ἐρεῖ (will say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (as much as) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) μου (of Me) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (you did it).’

⁴⁵ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσεται (will He answer) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (that) οὐκ (not) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), οὐδὲ (neither) ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (did you).’

⁵ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel) εἶπεν (said) ταῖς (to the) γυναιξίν (women), “Μὴ (Not) φοβεῖσθε (fear) ὑμεῖς (you); οἶδα (I know) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), τὸν (the One) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified), ζητεῖτε (you seek).

⁷ καὶ (And) ταχὺ (quickly) πορευθεῖσαι (having gone), εἴπατε (say) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅτι (that) Ἠγέρθη (He is risen) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead) καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), προάγει (He goes before) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee); ἐκεῖ (there) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄψεσθε (you will see). ἰδοὺ (Behold), εἶπον (I have told) ὑμῖν (you).”

³³ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (He answering) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγει (says), “Τίς (Who) ἐστιν (are) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοί (brothers) ‹μου› (of Me)?” ³⁴ καὶ (And) περιβλεψάμενος (having looked around on) τοὺς (those who) περὶ (around) αὐτὸν (Him) κύκλῳ (in a circle) καθημένους (were sitting), λέγει (He says), “Ἴδε (Behold), ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of Me)! ³⁵ ὃς (Whoever) ‹γὰρ› (for) ἂν (-) ποιήσῃ (shall do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), οὗτος (he) ἀδελφός (brother) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ἀδελφὴ (sister), καὶ (and) μήτηρ (mother) ἐστίν (is).”

⁷ ἀλλὰ (But) ὑπάγετε (go), εἴπατε (say) τοῖς (the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter) ὅτι (that) Προάγει (He goes before) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee); ἐκεῖ (there) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄψεσθε (will you see), καθὼς (as) εἶπεν (He said) ὑμῖν (to you).”

³⁶ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (of them) λαλούντων (as they were telling), αὐτὸς (He Himself) ἔστη (stood) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (midst) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you).” ³⁷ πτοηθέντες (Having been terrified) δὲ (however), καὶ (and) ἔμφοβοι (filled with fear) γενόμενοι (having been), ἐδόκουν (they were thinking themselves) πνεῦμα (a spirit) θεωρεῖν (to see). ³⁸ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (Why) τεταραγμένοι (troubled) ἐστέ (are you), καὶ (and) διὰ (through) τί (why) διαλογισμοὶ (doubts) ἀναβαίνουσιν (do come up) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you)?

²⁰ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He); μὴ (not) φοβεῖσθε (fear).”

¹⁷ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μή (Not) μου (Me) ἅπτου (touch), οὔπω (not yet) γὰρ (for) ἀναβέβηκα (have I ascended) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father); πορεύου (go) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφούς (brothers) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) εἰπὲ (say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀναβαίνω (I am ascending) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Πατέρα (Father) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and to) Θεόν (God) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Θεὸν (God) ὑμῶν (of you).’”

²⁹ ὅτι (For) οὓς (those whom) προέγνω (He foreknew), καὶ (also) προώρισεν (He predestined to be) συμμόρφους (conformed to) τῆς (the) εἰκόνος (image) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) εἶναι (to be) αὐτὸν (Him) πρωτότοκον (firstborn) ἐν (among) πολλοῖς (many) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers).

¹¹ ὅ (The One) τε (both) γὰρ (for) ἁγιάζων (sanctifying), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἁγιαζόμενοι (being sanctified), ἐξ (of) ἑνὸς (one) πάντες (are all); δι’ (for) ἣν (which) αἰτίαν (reason), οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνεται (He is ashamed) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) αὐτοὺς (them) καλεῖν (to call), ¹² λέγων (saying): “Ἀπαγγελῶ (I will declare) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) σου (of You) τοῖς (to the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) μου (of Me); ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) ἐκκλησίας (of the congregation) ὑμνήσω (I will sing praises) σε (of you).” ¹³ Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again): “Ἐγὼ (I) ἔσομαι (will be) πεποιθὼς (trusting) ἐπ’ (in) αὐτῷ (Him).” Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐγὼ (I) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) ἅ (whom) μοι (to Me) ἔδωκεν (has given) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).” ¹⁴ Ἐπεὶ (Since) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) κεκοινώνηκεν (have partaken) αἵματος (of blood) καὶ (and) σαρκός (of flesh) καὶ (also), αὐτὸς (He) παραπλησίως (likewise) μετέσχεν (took part in) τῶν (the) αὐτῶν (same things), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τοῦ (His) θανάτου (death), καταργήσῃ (He might destroy) τὸν (the one) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) ἔχοντα (holding) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), τὸν (the) διάβολον (devil), ¹⁵ καὶ (and) ἀπαλλάξῃ (might set free) τούτους (those) ὅσοι (who) φόβῳ (fear) θανάτου (of death) διὰ (through) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (their time) ζῆν (to live), ἔνοχοι (subject) ἦσαν (were) δουλείας (to slavery). ¹⁶ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) δή‿ (surely) που (in that place) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps), ἀλλὰ (but) σπέρματος (the seed) Ἀβραὰμ (of Abraham) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps). ¹⁷ ὅθεν (Therefore) ὤφειλεν (it behooved Him) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things) τοῖς (His) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) ὁμοιωθῆναι (to be made like), ἵνα (so that) ἐλεήμων (a merciful) γένηται (He might become), καὶ (and) πιστὸς (faithful), ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) τὰ (in things) πρὸς (relating to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ἱλάσκεσθαι (to make propitiation for) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people). ¹⁸ ἐν (In) ᾧ (that) γὰρ (for) πέπονθεν (has suffered) αὐτὸς (He Himself), πειρασθείς (having been tempted), δύναται (He is able) τοῖς (those) πειραζομένοις (being tempted) βοηθῆσαι (to help).

⁴ ἀπὸ (From) δὲ (now) τοῦ (the) φόβου (fear) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐσείσθησαν (trembled) οἱ (those) τηροῦντες (keeping guard) καὶ (and) ἐγενήθησαν (became) ὡς (as) νεκροί (dead men).

³ Τότε (Then) συνήχθησαν (were gathered together) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) εἰς (in) τὴν (the) αὐλὴν (courtyard) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest), τοῦ (who) λεγομένου (is called) Καϊάφα (Caiaphas), ⁴ καὶ (and) συνεβουλεύσαντο (they plotted together), ἵνα (in order that) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) δόλῳ (by guile) κρατήσωσιν (they might seize) καὶ (and) ἀποκτείνωσιν (kill).

¹ Πρωΐας (Morning) δὲ (then) γενομένης (having arrived), συμβούλιον (counsel) ἔλαβον (took) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ὥστε (so that) θανατῶσαι (they might put to death) αὐτόν (him). ² καὶ (And) δήσαντες (having bound) αὐτὸν (Him), ἀπήγαγον (they led away Him) καὶ (and) παρέδωκαν (delivered Him to) Πιλάτῳ (Pilate), τῷ (the) ἡγεμόνι (governor).

⁶² Τῇ (-) δὲ (And) ἐπαύριον (the next day), ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) μετὰ (after) τὴν (the) Παρασκευήν (Preparation), συνήχθησαν (were gathered together) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) πρὸς (before) Πιλᾶτον (Pilate), ⁶³ λέγοντες (saying), “Κύριε (Sir), ἐμνήσθημεν (we have remembered) ὅτι (how) ἐκεῖνος (that) ὁ (-) πλάνος (deceiver) εἶπεν (said) ἔτι (while) ζῶν (living), ‘Μετὰ (After) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἐγείρομαι (I arise).’ ⁶⁴ κέλευσον (Command) οὖν (therefore) ἀσφαλισθῆναι (to be secured) τὸν (the) τάφον (tomb) ἕως (until) τῆς (the) τρίτης (third) ἡμέρας (day), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) ἐλθόντες (having come), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) ‹αὐτοῦ› (of Him) κλέψωσιν (steal away) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) εἴπωσιν (say) τῷ (to the) λαῷ (people), ‘Ἠγέρθη (He is risen) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead).’ καὶ (And) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) ἐσχάτη (last) πλάνη (deception) χείρων (worse) τῆς (than the) πρώτης (first).”

⁴⁷ Συνήγαγον (Gathered) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) συνέδριον (a council), καὶ (and) ἔλεγον (they were saying), “Τί (What) ποιοῦμεν (are we to do)? ὅτι (For) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) ἄνθρωπος (man) πολλὰ (many) ποιεῖ (does) σημεῖα (signs).

¹⁰ ἐβουλεύσαντο (Took counsel) δὲ (however) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) ἵνα (that) καὶ (also) τὸν (-) Λάζαρον (Lazarus) ἀποκτείνωσιν (they might kill), ¹¹ ὅτι (because) πολλοὶ (many) δι’ (on account of) αὐτὸν (him) ὑπῆγον (were going away) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews) καὶ (and) ἐπίστευον (were believing) εἰς (in) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus).

⁵ Ἐγένετο (It came to pass) δὲ (then) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) αὔριον (next day) συναχθῆναι (were gathered together) αὐτῶν (their) τοὺς (-) ἄρχοντας (rulers) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) πρεσβυτέρους (elders) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) γραμματεῖς (scribes) ἐν (in) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), ⁶ καὶ (and) Ἅννας (Annas) ὁ (the) ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest), καὶ (and) Καϊάφας (Caiaphas), καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John), καὶ (and) Ἀλέξανδρος (Alexander), καὶ (and) ὅσοι (as many as) ἦσαν (were) ἐκ (of) γένους (descent) ἀρχιερατικοῦ (high-priestly). ⁷ καὶ (And) στήσαντες (having placed) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) μέσῳ (midst), ἐπυνθάνοντο (they began to inquire), “Ἐν (In) ποίᾳ (what) δυνάμει (power) ἢ (or) ἐν (in) ποίῳ (what) ὀνόματι (name) ἐποιήσατε (did) τοῦτο (this) ὑμεῖς (you)?” ⁸ Τότε (Then) Πέτρος (Peter), πλησθεὶς (having been filled) Πνεύματος (with the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ἄρχοντες (Rulers) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) καὶ (and) πρεσβύτεροι (elders), ⁹ εἰ (if) ἡμεῖς (we) σήμερον (this day) ἀνακρινόμεθα (are being examined) ἐπὶ (as to) εὐεργεσίᾳ (a good work) ἀνθρώπου (to the man) ἀσθενοῦς (ailing), ἐν (by) τίνι (what means) οὗτος (he) σέσωσται (has been healed), ¹⁰ γνωστὸν (known) ἔστω (let it be) πᾶσιν (to all) ὑμῖν (you) καὶ (and) παντὶ (to all) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel) ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) τοῦ (of) Ναζωραίου (Nazareth), ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐσταυρώσατε (crucified), ὃν (whom) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἤγειρεν (raised) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), ἐν (in) τούτῳ (Him) οὗτος (this man) παρέστηκεν (stands) ἐνώπιον (before) ὑμῶν (you) ὑγιής (sound). ¹¹ οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ‘Ὁ (the) λίθος (stone) ὁ (-) ἐξουθενηθεὶς (having been rejected) ὑφ’ (by) ὑμῶν (you), τῶν (the) οἰκοδόμων (builders), ὁ (which) γενόμενος (has become) εἰς (into) κεφαλὴν (head) γωνίας (of the corner).’ ¹² Καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἐν (in) ἄλλῳ (other) οὐδενὶ (no one) ἡ (the) σωτηρία (salvation), οὐδὲ (not) γὰρ (for) ὄνομά (name) ἐστιν (is there) ἕτερον (another) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) τὸ (-) δεδομένον (having been given) ἐν (among) ἀνθρώποις (men) ἐν (by) ᾧ (which) δεῖ (it behooves) σωθῆναι (to be saved) ἡμᾶς (us).” ¹³ Θεωροῦντες (Seeing) δὲ (now) τὴν (the) τοῦ (-) Πέτρου (of Peter) παρρησίαν (boldness), καὶ (and) Ἰωάννου (of John), καὶ (and) καταλαβόμενοι (having understood) ὅτι (that) ἄνθρωποι (men) ἀγράμματοί (unschooled) εἰσιν (they are), καὶ (and) ἰδιῶται (ordinary), ἐθαύμαζον (they were astonished). ἐπεγίνωσκόν (They recognized) τε (then) αὐτοὺς (them), ὅτι (that) σὺν (with) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἦσαν (they had been). ¹⁴ τόν (-) τε (And) ἄνθρωπον (the man) βλέποντες (beholding) σὺν (with) αὐτοῖς (them) ἑστῶτα (standing) τὸν (-) τεθεραπευμένον (having been healed), οὐδὲν (nothing) εἶχον (they had) ἀντειπεῖν (to contradict). ¹⁵ κελεύσαντες (Having commanded) δὲ (however) αὐτοὺς (them) ἔξω (outside) τοῦ (the) συνεδρίου (Council) ἀπελθεῖν (to go), συνέβαλλον (they began to confer) πρὸς (with) ἀλλήλους (one another), ¹⁶ λέγοντες (saying), “Τί (What) ποιήσωμεν (shall we do) τοῖς (to the) ἀνθρώποις (men) τούτοις (these)? ὅτι (That) μὲν (truly) γὰρ (for) γνωστὸν (a noteworthy) σημεῖον (sign) γέγονεν (has come to pass) δι’ (through) αὐτῶν (them), πᾶσιν (to all) τοῖς (those) κατοικοῦσιν (inhabiting) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) φανερόν (is evident), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) δυνάμεθα (we are able) ἀρνεῖσθαι (to deny it). ¹⁷ ἀλλ’ (But) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἐπὶ (on) πλεῖον (further) διανεμηθῇ (it might spread) εἰς (among) τὸν (the) λαόν (people), ἀπειλησώμεθα (let us warn) αὐτοῖς (them) μηκέτι (no longer) λαλεῖν (to speak) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τούτῳ (this) μηδενὶ (to no) ἀνθρώπων (man).” ¹⁸ Καὶ (And) καλέσαντες (having called) αὐτοὺς (them), παρήγγειλαν (they commanded them) ‹τὸ› (-) καθόλου (at all) μὴ (not) φθέγγεσθαι (to speak) μηδὲ (nor) διδάσκειν (to teach) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). ¹⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John) ἀποκριθέντες (answering), εἶπον (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Εἰ (Whether) δίκαιόν (right) ἐστιν (it is) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ὑμῶν (to you) ἀκούειν (to listen), μᾶλλον (rather) ἢ (than) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), κρίνατε (you must judge); ²⁰ οὐ (not) δυνάμεθα (are able) γὰρ (for) ἡμεῖς (we), ἃ (what) εἴδαμεν (we have seen) καὶ (and) ἠκούσαμεν (heard), μὴ (not) λαλεῖν (to speak).” ²¹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) προσαπειλησάμενοι (having further threatened them), ἀπέλυσαν (they let go) αὐτούς (them), μηδὲν (nothing) εὑρίσκοντες (finding) τὸ (the) πῶς (how) κολάσωνται (they might punish) αὐτούς (them), διὰ (on account of) τὸν (the) λαόν (people), ὅτι (because) πάντες (all) ἐδόξαζον (were glorifying) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐπὶ (for) τῷ (that) γεγονότι (having happened); ²² ἐτῶν (years old) γὰρ (for) ἦν (was) πλειόνων (more than) τεσσεράκοντα (forty), ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐφ’ (on) ὃν (whom) γεγόνει (had taken place) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) τοῦτο (this) τῆς (of) ἰάσεως (healing).

³³ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard), διεπρίοντο (they were cut to the heart) καὶ (and) ἐβούλοντο (were desiring) ἀνελεῖν (to put to death) αὐτούς (them). ³⁴ Ἀναστὰς (Having risen up) δέ (however) τις (a certain man) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) συνεδρίῳ (Council), Φαρισαῖος (a Pharisee) ὀνόματι (named) Γαμαλιήλ (Gamaliel), νομοδιδάσκαλος (a teacher of the law) τίμιος (honored) παντὶ (by all) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people), ἐκέλευσεν (he commanded them) ἔξω (outside) βραχὺ (for a short while) τοὺς (the) ἀνθρώπους (men) ποιῆσαι (to put).

⁴⁰ Ἐπείσθησαν (They were persuaded) δὲ (now) αὐτῷ (by him); καὶ (and) προσκαλεσάμενοι (having called in) τοὺς (the) ἀποστόλους (apostles), δείραντες (having beaten), παρήγγειλαν (they commanded them) μὴ (not) λαλεῖν (to speak) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), καὶ (and) ἀπέλυσαν (released them).

⁶⁴ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Σὺ (You) εἶπας (have said). πλὴν (But) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀπ’ (from) ἄρτι (now) ὄψεσθε (you will see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) τῆς (-) δυνάμεως (of Power) καὶ (and) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐπὶ (upon) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (of heaven).”

² καὶ (And) δήσαντες (having bound) αὐτὸν (Him), ἀπήγαγον (they led away Him) καὶ (and) παρέδωκαν (delivered Him to) Πιλάτῳ (Pilate), τῷ (the) ἡγεμόνι (governor).

¹⁹ Ἡρῴδης (Herod) δὲ (then) ἐπιζητήσας (having sought after) αὐτὸν (him), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) εὑρὼν (having found him), ἀνακρίνας (having examined) τοὺς (the) φύλακας (guards), ἐκέλευσεν (he commanded them) ἀπαχθῆναι (to be led away to death). καὶ (And) κατελθὼν (having gone down) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) Ἰουδαίας (Judea) εἰς (to) Καισάρειαν (Caesarea), διέτριβεν (he stayed there).

¹⁵ εἶπεν (he said), “Τί (What) θέλετέ (are you willing) μοι (me) δοῦναι (to give), κἀγὼ (and I) ὑμῖν (to you) παραδώσω (will betray) αὐτόν (Him)?” οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἔστησαν (they appointed) αὐτῷ (to him) τριάκοντα (thirty) ἀργύρια (pieces of silver).

⁸ διὸ (Therefore) ἐκλήθη (was called) ὁ (the) ἀγρὸς (field) ἐκεῖνος (that), Ἀγρὸς (Field) αἵματος (of Blood), ἕως (to) τῆς (-) σήμερον (this day).

¹⁰ ῥίζα (A root) γὰρ (for) πάντων (of all kinds) τῶν (-) κακῶν (of evils) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) φιλαργυρία (love of money), ἧς (which) τινες (some) ὀρεγόμενοι (stretching after) ἀπεπλανήθησαν (have been seduced) ἀπὸ (away from) τῆς (the) πίστεως (faith), καὶ (and) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) περιέπειραν (have pierced) ὀδύναις (with sorrows) πολλαῖς (many).

¹⁴ Ὕστερον (Afterward) δὲ (now) ἀνακειμένοις (were reclining) αὐτοῖς (they); τοῖς (to the) ἕνδεκα (eleven) ἐφανερώθη (He appeared) καὶ (and) ὠνείδισεν (rebuked) τὴν (the) ἀπιστίαν (unbelief) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) σκληροκαρδίαν (hardness of heart), ὅτι (because) τοῖς (those) θεασαμένοις (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐγηγερμένον (arisen) οὐκ (not) ἐπίστευσαν (they believed).

⁷⁰ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐκ (Not) ἐγὼ (I) ὑμᾶς (you) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve) ἐξελεξάμην (did choose), καὶ (and) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you) εἷς (one) διάβολός (a devil) ἐστιν (is)?”

¹³ καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) εἰσῆλθον (they had entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ὑπερῷον (upper room), ἀνέβησαν (they went up) οὗ (where) ἦσαν (they were) καταμένοντες (staying), ὅ (-) τε (both) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John), καὶ (and) Ἰάκωβος (James) καὶ (and) Ἀνδρέας (Andrew), Φίλιππος (Philip) καὶ (and) Θωμᾶς (Thomas), Βαρθολομαῖος (Bartholomew) καὶ (and) Μαθθαῖος (Matthew), Ἰάκωβος (James son) Ἁλφαίου (of Alphaeus), καὶ (and) Σίμων (Simon) ὁ (the) Ζηλωτὴς (Zealot), καὶ (and) Ἰούδας (Judas son) Ἰακώβου (of James). ¹⁴ οὗτοι (These) πάντες (all) ἦσαν (were) προσκαρτεροῦντες (steadfastly continuing) ὁμοθυμαδὸν (with one accord) τῇ (-) προσευχῇ (in prayer), σὺν (with the) γυναιξὶν (women), καὶ (and) Μαριὰμ (Mary) τῇ (the) μητρὶ (mother) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), καὶ (and) σὺν (with) τοῖς (the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ¹⁵ Καὶ (And) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) ταύταις (these), ἀναστὰς (having stood up) Πέτρος (Peter) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers), εἶπεν (he said)— ἦν (was) τε (then) ὄχλος (the number) ὀνομάτων (of names) ἐπὶ (together) τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) ὡσεὶ (about) ἑκατὸν (a hundred) εἴκοσι (twenty)— ¹⁶ “Ἄνδρες (Men), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἔδει (it was necessary for) πληρωθῆναι (to have been fulfilled) τὴν (the) γραφὴν (Scripture) ἣν (which) προεῖπεν (spoke beforehand) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy) διὰ (by) στόματος (the mouth) Δαυὶδ (of David) περὶ (concerning) Ἰούδα (Judas), τοῦ (the one) γενομένου (having become) ὁδηγοῦ (guide) τοῖς (to those) συλλαβοῦσιν (having arrested) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus); ¹⁷ ὅτι (for) κατηριθμημένος (numbered) ἦν (he was) ἐν (with) ἡμῖν (us), καὶ (and) ἔλαχεν (was allotted) τὸν (-) κλῆρον (a share) τῆς (of the) διακονίας (ministry) ταύτης (this).” ¹⁸ Οὗτος (This man) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (then) ἐκτήσατο (acquired) χωρίον (a field) ἐκ (out of) μισθοῦ (the reward) τῆς (-) ἀδικίας (of unrighteousness), καὶ (and) πρηνὴς (headlong) γενόμενος (having fallen), ἐλάκησεν (he burst open) μέσος (in the middle), καὶ (and) ἐξεχύθη (gushed out) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) σπλάγχνα (intestines) αὐτοῦ (of him). ¹⁹ καὶ (And) γνωστὸν (known) ἐγένετο (it became) πᾶσι (to all) τοῖς (those) κατοικοῦσιν (dwelling) Ἰερουσαλήμ (in Jerusalem), ὥστε (so that) κληθῆναι (was called) τὸ (the) χωρίον (field) ἐκεῖνο (that) τῇ (in the) ἰδίᾳ (own) διαλέκτῳ (language) αὐτῶν (of them) Ἁκελδαμάχ* (Akeldama), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), Χωρίον (Field) αἵματος (of Blood). ²⁰ “Γέγραπται (It has been written) γὰρ (for) ἐν (in the) βίβλῳ (book) Ψαλμῶν (of Psalms): ‘Γενηθήτω (Let become) ἡ (the) ἔπαυλις (homestead) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἔρημος (desolate), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἔστω (let there be) ὁ (one person) κατοικῶν (dwelling) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it),’ Καί (and), ‘Τὴν (The) ἐπισκοπὴν (position) αὐτοῦ (of him) λαβέτω (let take) ἕτερος (another).’ ²¹ Δεῖ (It behooves) οὖν (therefore) τῶν (the) συνελθόντων (having accompanied) ἡμῖν (us) ἀνδρῶν (men), ἐν (during) παντὶ (all) χρόνῳ (the time) ᾧ (that) εἰσῆλθεν (came in) καὶ (and) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ἐφ’ (among) ἡμᾶς (us) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ²² ἀρξάμενος (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) βαπτίσματος (baptism) Ἰωάννου (of John) ἕως (until) τῆς (the) ἡμέρας (day) ἧς (in which) ἀνελήμφθη (He was taken up) ἀφ’ (from) ἡμῶν (us), μάρτυρα (a witness) τῆς (of the) ἀναστάσεως (resurrection) αὐτοῦ (of Him) σὺν (with) ἡμῖν (us) γενέσθαι (to become) ἕνα (one) τούτων (of these).” ²³ Καὶ (And) ἔστησαν (they put forward) δύο (two), Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph) τὸν (-) καλούμενον (called) Βαρσαββᾶν (Barsabbas), ὃς (who) ἐπεκλήθη (was called) Ἰοῦστος (Justus), καὶ (and) Μαθθίαν (Matthias). ²⁴ καὶ (And) προσευξάμενοι (having prayed), εἶπαν (they said), “Σὺ (You) Κύριε (Lord), καρδιογνῶστα (knower of the hearts) πάντων (of all), ἀνάδειξον (show) ὃν (which) ἐξελέξω (You have chosen) ἐκ (of) τούτων (these) τῶν (-) δύο (two), ἕνα (one) ²⁵ λαβεῖν (to take) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) τῆς (of the) διακονίας (ministry) ταύτης (this) καὶ (and) ἀποστολῆς (apostleship), ἀφ’ (from) ἧς (which) παρέβη (turned aside) Ἰούδας (Judas) πορευθῆναι (to go) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) τὸν (-) ἴδιον (own).” ²⁶ καὶ (And) ἔδωκαν (they gave) κλήρους (lots) αὐτοῖς (for them), καὶ (and) ἔπεσεν (fell) ὁ (the) κλῆρος (lot) ἐπὶ (on) Μαθθίαν (Matthias), καὶ (and) συνκατεψηφίσθη (he was numbered) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἕνδεκα (eleven) ἀποστόλων (apostles).

¹⁵ εὑρισκόμεθα (We are found) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) ψευδομάρτυρες (false witnesses) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὅτι (because) ἐμαρτυρήσαμεν (we have witnessed) κατὰ (concerning) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ὅτι (that) ἤγειρεν (He raised up) τὸν (-) Χριστόν (Christ), ὃν (whom) οὐκ (not) ἤγειρεν (He has raised) εἴπερ (if) ἄρα (then) νεκροὶ (the dead) οὐκ (not) ἐγείρονται (are raised).

²⁸ Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (-), εἰσίν (there are) τινες (some) τῶν (of those) ὧδε (here) ἑστώτων (standing) οἵτινες (who) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) γεύσωνται (shall taste) θανάτου (of death) ἕως (until) ἂν (-) ἴδωσιν (they have seen) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) αὐτοῦ (of Him).”

⁹ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὑπήντησεν (met) αὐταῖς (them), λέγων (saying), “Χαίρετε (Greetings)!” αἱ (-) δὲ (And) προσελθοῦσαι (having come to Him), ἐκράτησαν (they took hold of) αὐτοῦ (His) τοὺς (-) πόδας (feet) καὶ (and) προσεκύνησαν (worshiped) αὐτῷ (Him).

²³ ἵνα (so that) πάντες (all) τιμῶσι (may honor) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), καθὼς (even as) τιμῶσι (they honor) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ὁ (He who) μὴ (not) τιμῶν (is honoring) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), οὐ (not) τιμᾷ (is honoring) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), τὸν (the One) πέμψαντα (having sent) αὐτόν (Him).

²⁷ Πάντα (All things) μοι (to Me) παρεδόθη (have been delivered) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me). καὶ (And) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἐπιγινώσκει (knows) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father); οὐδὲ (nor) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) τις (anyone) ἐπιγινώσκει (does know), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son), καὶ (and) ᾧ (to whom) ἐὰν (if) βούληται (might choose) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) ἀποκαλύψαι (to reveal Him).

³² οὗτος (He) ἔσται (will be) μέγας (great), καὶ (and) Υἱὸς (Son) Ὑψίστου (of the Most High) κληθήσεται (He will be called); καὶ (and) δώσει (will give) αὐτῷ (Him) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸν (the) θρόνον (throne) Δαυὶδ (of David), τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) αὐτοῦ (of Him); ³³ καὶ (and) βασιλεύσει (He will reign) ἐπὶ (over) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) Ἰακὼβ (of Jacob) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages); καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) αὐτοῦ (of Him) οὐκ (not) ἔσται (there will be) τέλος (an end)!”

²² Πάντα (All things) μοι (to Me) παρεδόθη (have been delivered) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me). καὶ (And) οὐδεὶς (no one) γινώσκει (knows) τίς (who) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father); καὶ (and) τίς (who) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son), καὶ (and) ᾧ (to whom) ἐὰν (if) βούληται (might resolve) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) ἀποκαλύψαι (to reveal Him).”

³⁵ Ὁ (The) Πατὴρ (Father) ἀγαπᾷ (loves) τὸν (the) Υἱόν (Son), καὶ (and) πάντα (all things) δέδωκεν (has given) ἐν (into) τῇ (the) χειρὶ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

²² οὐδὲ (Not even) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) κρίνει (judges) οὐδένα (no one), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (-) κρίσιν (judgment) πᾶσαν (all) δέδωκεν (has given) τῷ (to the) Υἱῷ (Son), ²³ ἵνα (so that) πάντες (all) τιμῶσι (may honor) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), καθὼς (even as) τιμῶσι (they honor) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ὁ (He who) μὴ (not) τιμῶν (is honoring) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), οὐ (not) τιμᾷ (is honoring) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), τὸν (the One) πέμψαντα (having sent) αὐτόν (Him). ²⁴ Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the one) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) μου (of Me) ἀκούων (hearing), καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) τῷ (the One) πέμψαντί (having sent) με (Me), ἔχει (he has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) κρίσιν (judgment) οὐκ (not) ἔρχεται (comes), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταβέβηκεν (has passed) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life). ²⁵ Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour), καὶ (and) νῦν (now) ἐστιν (is), ὅτε (when) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἀκούσουσιν (will hear) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) ζήσουσιν (will live). ²⁶ ὥσπερ (As) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἔχει (has) ζωὴν (life) ἐν (in) ἑαυτῷ (Himself), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) τῷ (to the) Υἱῷ (Son) ἔδωκεν (He gave) ζωὴν (life), ἔχειν (to have) ἐν (in) ἑαυτῷ (Himself). ²⁷ καὶ (And) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔδωκεν (He gave) αὐτῷ (Him) κρίσιν (judgment) ποιεῖν (to execute), ὅτι (because) Υἱὸς (Son) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐστίν (He is).

³ εἰδὼς (knowing) ὅτι (that) πάντα (all things) ἔδωκεν (has given) αὐτῷ (Him) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands), καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God) ἐξῆλθεν (He came forth) καὶ (and) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ὑπάγει (He is going),

² καθὼς (As) ἔδωκας (You gave) αὐτῷ (Him) ἐξουσίαν (authority) πάσης (over all) σαρκός (flesh), ἵνα (so that) πᾶν (all) ὃ (whom) δέδωκας (You have given) αὐτῷ (Him), δώσῃ (He may give) αὐτοῖς (to them) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal).

³⁶ Ἀσφαλῶς (Assuredly) οὖν (therefore) γινωσκέτω (let know) πᾶς (all) οἶκος (the house) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel) ὅτι (that) καὶ (both) Κύριον (Lord) αὐτὸν (Him) καὶ (and) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐποίησεν (has made) ὁ (-) Θεός (God) — τοῦτον (this) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐσταυρώσατε (crucified).”

³⁶ τὸν (the) λόγον (word) ὃν (that) ἀπέστειλεν (He sent) τοῖς (to the) υἱοῖς (sons) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel), εὐαγγελιζόμενος (proclaiming the gospel), εἰρήνην (peace) διὰ (by) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ)— οὗτός (He) ἐστιν (is) πάντων (of all) Κύριος (Lord).

⁹ εἰς (Unto) τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (for), Χριστὸς (Christ) ἀπέθανεν (died) καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (lived again), ἵνα (that) καὶ (both the) νεκρῶν (dead) καὶ (and) ζώντων (living) κυριεύσῃ (He might rule over).

²⁷ “Πάντα (All things),” γὰρ (for) “Ὑπέταξεν (He has put in subjection), ὑπὸ (under) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him).” ὅταν (When) δὲ (however) εἴπῃ (it may be said) ὅτι (that) πάντα (all things) ὑποτέτακται (have been put in subjection), δῆλον (it is evident) ὅτι (that) ἐκτὸς (is excepted) τοῦ (the One) ὑποτάξαντος (having put in subjection) αὐτῷ (to Him) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things).

²⁰ ἣν (which) ἐνήργηκεν (He worked) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ), ἐγείρας (having raised) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) καὶ (and) καθίσας (having set Him) ἐν (at) δεξιᾷ (the right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms), ²¹ ὑπεράνω (above) πάσης (every) ἀρχῆς (principality) καὶ (and) ἐξουσίας (authority) καὶ (and) δυνάμεως (power) καὶ (and) κυριότητος (dominion), καὶ (and) παντὸς (every) ὀνόματος (name) ὀνομαζομένου (being named), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) αἰῶνι (age) τούτῳ (this), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) ἐν (in) τῷ (the one) μέλλοντι (coming). ²² καὶ (And) πάντα (all things) ὑπέταξεν (He put) ὑπὸ (under) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) αὐτὸν (Him) ἔδωκεν (gave) κεφαλὴν (to be head) ὑπὲρ (over) πάντα (all things) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church),

⁹ Διὸ (Therefore) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) αὐτὸν (Him) ὑπερύψωσεν (highly exalted), καὶ (and) ἐχαρίσατο (granted) αὐτῷ (to Him) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τὸ (-) ὑπὲρ (above) πᾶν (every) ὄνομα (name), ¹⁰ ἵνα (that) ἐν (at) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) πᾶν (every) γόνυ (knee) κάμψῃ (should bow), ἐπουρανίων (in the heavens) καὶ (and) ἐπιγείων (on earth) καὶ (and) καταχθονίων (under the earth), ¹¹ καὶ (and) πᾶσα (every) γλῶσσα (tongue) ἐξομολογήσηται (should confess) ὅτι (that) ΚΥΡΙΟΣ (is Lord) ΙΗΣΟΥΣ (Jesus) ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christ), εἰς (to) δόξαν (the glory) Θεοῦ (of God) Πατρός (the Father).

¹⁶ ὅτι (because) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) ἐκτίσθη (were created) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens) καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), τὰ (the) ὁρατὰ (visible) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἀόρατα (invisible), εἴτε (whether) θρόνοι (thrones) εἴτε (or) κυριότητες (dominions) εἴτε (or) ἀρχαὶ (rulers) εἴτε (or) ἐξουσίαι (authorities); τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him) καὶ (and) εἰς (unto) αὐτὸν (Him) ἔκτισται (have been created). ¹⁷ Καὶ (And) αὐτός (He) ἐστιν (is) πρὸ (before) πάντων (all things), καὶ (and) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) συνέστηκεν (hold together). ¹⁸ καὶ (And) αὐτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) κεφαλὴ (head) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body), τῆς (the) ἐκκλησίας (church), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) (ἡ) (the) ἀρχή (beginning), πρωτότοκος (firstborn) ἐκ (out from) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead), ἵνα (so that) γένηται (might be) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all things) αὐτὸς (He) πρωτεύων (holding preeminence), ¹⁹ ὅτι (because) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) εὐδόκησεν (was pleased) πᾶν (all) τὸ (the) πλήρωμα (fullness) κατοικῆσαι (to dwell),

⁸ πάντα (all things) ὑπέταξας (You have put in subjection) ὑποκάτω (under) τῶν (the) ποδῶν (feet) αὐτοῦ (of him). Ἐν (In) τῷ (-) γὰρ (for) ὑποτάξαι (subjecting) αὐτῷ (to him) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things), οὐδὲν (nothing) ἀφῆκεν (He left) αὐτῷ (to him) ἀνυπότακτον (unsubject). νῦν (At present) δὲ (however), οὔπω (not yet) ὁρῶμεν (do we see) αὐτῷ (to Him) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) ὑποτεταγμένα (having been subjected).

²² ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (at) δεξιᾷ (the right hand) [τοῦ] (-) Θεοῦ (of God), πορευθεὶς (having gone) εἰς (into) οὐρανόν (heaven), ὑποταγέντων (having been subjected) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἀγγέλων (angels) καὶ (and) ἐξουσιῶν (authorities) καὶ (and) δυνάμεων (powers).

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἕβδομος (seventh) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐγένοντο (there were) φωναὶ (voices) μεγάλαι (great) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), λέγοντες (saying): “Ἐγένετο (Has become) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), τοῦ (that of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσει (He will reign) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).”

¹⁴ Οὗτοι (These) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb) πολεμήσουσιν (war will make), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) Ἀρνίον (Lamb) νικήσει (will overcome) αὐτούς (them), ὅτι (because) Κύριος (Lord) κυρίων (of lords) ἐστὶν (He is), καὶ (and) Βασιλεὺς (King) βασιλέων (of kings); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) κλητοὶ (are called) καὶ (and) ἐκλεκτοὶ (chosen) καὶ (and) πιστοί (faithful).”

¹⁶ καὶ (And) ἔχει (He has) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) ἱμάτιον (robe) καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸν (the) μηρὸν (thigh) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὄνομα (a name) γεγραμμένον (having been written): ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ (King) ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ (of Kings) ΚΑΙ (and) ΚΥΡΙΟΣ (Lord) ΚΥΡΙΩΝ (of Lords).

¹⁶ Βαπτισθεὶς (Having been baptized) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἀνέβη (went up) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ὕδατος (water); καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἠνεῴχθησαν (were opened) οἱ (the) οὐρανοί (heavens), καὶ (and) εἶδεν (he saw) [τὸ] (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) [τοῦ] (of) Θεοῦ (God) καταβαῖνον (descending) ὡσεὶ (as) περιστερὰν (a dove), [καὶ] (and) ἐρχόμενον (alighting) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτόν (Him). ¹⁷ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εὐδόκησα (I was well pleased).”

⁵² Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), πᾶς (every) γραμματεὺς (scribe) μαθητευθεὶς (having been discipled) τῇ (into the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens) ὅμοιός (like) ἐστιν (is) ἀνθρώπῳ (a man), οἰκοδεσπότῃ (a master of a house), ὅστις (who) ἐκβάλλει (puts forth) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) θησαυροῦ (treasure) αὐτοῦ (of him) καινὰ (things new) καὶ (and) παλαιά (old).”

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Πορευθέντες (Having gone) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ἅπαντα (all), κηρύξατε (proclaim) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) πάσῃ (to all) τῇ (the) κτίσει (creation). ¹⁶ ὁ (The one) πιστεύσας (having believed) καὶ (and) βαπτισθεὶς (having been baptized) σωθήσεται (will be saved); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ἀπιστήσας (having disbelieved) κατακριθήσεται (will be condemned).

⁴⁷ καὶ (and) κηρυχθῆναι (to be proclaimed) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) μετάνοιαν (repentance) εἰς (and) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) εἰς (to) πάντα (all) τὰ (-) ἔθνη (nations), ἀρξάμενοι (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem). ⁴⁸ ὑμεῖς (You) ‹ἐστε› (are) μάρτυρες (witnesses) τούτων (of these things).

⁸ ἀλλὰ (But) λήμψεσθε (you will receive) δύναμιν (power), ἐπελθόντος (having come) τοῦ (the) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματος (Spirit) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) ἔσεσθέ (you will be) μου (for Me) μάρτυρες (witnesses), ἔν (in) τε (both) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), καὶ (and) Σαμαρείᾳ (Samaria), καὶ (and) ἕως (to) ἐσχάτου (the uttermost part) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).”

³⁸ Πέτρος (Peter) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Μετανοήσατε (Repent),” [φησίν] (he declared), “Καὶ (and) βαπτισθήτω (be baptized), ἕκαστος (every one) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) εἰς (for the) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) τῶν (of the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) λήμψεσθε (you will receive) τὴν (the) δωρεὰν (gift) τοῦ (of the) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματος (Spirit). ³⁹ ὑμῖν (To you) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) ἐπαγγελία (promise), καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) τέκνοις (children) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (to all) τοῖς (those) εἰς (at) μακρὰν (a distance), ὅσους (as many as) ἂν (-) προσκαλέσηται (shall call to Himself) Κύριος (the Lord), ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) ἡμῶν (of us).”

⁴¹ οἱ (Those) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (therefore) ἀποδεξάμενοι (having received) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐβαπτίσθησαν (were baptized); καὶ (and) προσετέθησαν (were added) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐκείνῃ (that), ψυχαὶ (souls) ὡσεὶ (about) τρισχίλιαι (three thousand).

¹² Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἐπίστευσαν (they believed) τῷ (-) Φιλίππῳ (Philip), εὐαγγελιζομένῳ (proclaiming the gospel) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματος (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ἐβαπτίζοντο (they were baptized), ἄνδρες (men) τε (both) καὶ (and) γυναῖκες (women). ¹³ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Σίμων (Simon) καὶ (also) αὐτὸς (himself) ἐπίστευσεν (believed), καὶ (and) βαπτισθεὶς (having been baptized), ἦν (was) προσκαρτερῶν (steadfastly continuing) τῷ (-) Φιλίππῳ (with Philip). θεωρῶν (Beholding) τε (then) σημεῖα (the signs) καὶ (and) δυνάμεις (miracles) μεγάλας (great) γινομένας (being performed), ἐξίστατο (he was amazed). ¹⁴ Ἀκούσαντες (Having heard) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ἐν (in) Ἱεροσολύμοις (Jerusalem) ἀπόστολοι (apostles) ὅτι (that) δέδεκται (had received) ἡ (-) Σαμάρεια (Samaria) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀπέστειλαν (they sent) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) Πέτρον (Peter) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννην (John), ¹⁵ οἵτινες (who) καταβάντες (having come down), προσηύξαντο (prayed) περὶ (for) αὐτῶν (them) ὅπως (that) λάβωσιν (they might receive the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) Ἅγιον (Holy). ¹⁶ οὐδέπω (Not yet) γὰρ (for) ἦν (He was) ἐπ’ (upon) οὐδενὶ (any) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπιπεπτωκός (fallen); μόνον (only) δὲ (however) βεβαπτισμένοι (baptized) ὑπῆρχον (they had been) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

³⁶ Ὡς (As) δὲ (then) ἐπορεύοντο (they were going) κατὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), ἦλθον (they came) ἐπί (upon) τι (some) ὕδωρ (water), καί (and) φησιν (says) ὁ (the) εὐνοῦχος (eunuch), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὕδωρ (water); τί (what) κωλύει (prevents) με (me) βαπτισθῆναι (to be baptized)?” ^{37 38} καὶ (And) ἐκέλευσεν (he commanded) στῆναι (to stop) τὸ (the) ἅρμα (chariot). καὶ (And) κατέβησαν (they went down) ἀμφότεροι (both) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water), ὅ (-) τε (both) Φίλιππος (Philip) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) εὐνοῦχος (eunuch), καὶ (and) ἐβάπτισεν (he baptized) αὐτόν (him).

¹⁸ Καὶ (And) εὐθέως (immediately) ἀπέπεσαν (fell) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) ὡς (something like) λεπίδες (scales), ἀνέβλεψέν (he regained his sight) τε (also). καὶ (And) ἀναστὰς (having risen up), ἐβαπτίσθη (he was baptized);

⁴⁷ “Μήτι (If not) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water) δύναται (is able) κωλῦσαί (to withhold) τις (anyone) τοῦ (-) μὴ (not) βαπτισθῆναι (to baptize) τούτους (these) οἵτινες (who) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy) ἔλαβον (have received), ὡς (just as) καὶ (also have) ἡμεῖς (we)?” ⁴⁸ προσέταξεν (He commanded) δὲ (now) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) βαπτισθῆναι (to be baptized). τότε (Then) ἠρώτησαν (they asked) αὐτὸν (him) ἐπιμεῖναι (to remain) ἡμέρας (days) τινάς (some).

⁴⁶ Παρρησιασάμενοί (Having spoken boldly) τε (also), ὁ (-) Παῦλος (Paul) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) Βαρνάβας (Barnabas) εἶπαν (said), “Ὑμῖν (To you) ἦν (it was) ἀναγκαῖον (necessary) πρῶτον (first) λαληθῆναι (to be spoken) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); ἐπειδὴ (but since) ἀπωθεῖσθε (you thrust away) αὐτὸν (it) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἀξίους (worthy) κρίνετε (you judge) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) τῆς (-) αἰωνίου (of eternal) ζωῆς (life), ἰδοὺ (behold), στρεφόμεθα (we are turning) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles). ⁴⁷ οὕτως (Thus) γὰρ (for) ἐντέταλται (has commanded) ἡμῖν (us) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord): ‘Τέθεικά (I have set) σε (you) εἰς (for) φῶς (a light) ἐθνῶν (of the Gentiles), τοῦ (-) εἶναί (to be) σε (you) εἰς (for) σωτηρίαν (salvation) ἕως (to) ἐσχάτου (the uttermost part) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).’”

²¹ Εὐαγγελισάμενοί* (Having proclaimed the gospel to) τε (then) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) ἐκείνην (that), καὶ (and) μαθητεύσαντες (having discipled) ἱκανοὺς (many), ὑπέστρεψαν (they returned) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) Λύστραν (Lystra), καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Ἰκόνιον (Iconium), καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Ἀντιόχειαν (Antioch),

¹⁵ ὡς (When) δὲ (then) ἐβαπτίσθη (she was baptized), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) οἶκος (house) αὐτῆς (of her), παρεκάλεσεν (she begged), λέγουσα (saying), “Εἰ (If) κεκρίκατέ (you have judged) με (me) πιστὴν (faithful) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) εἶναι (to be), εἰσελθόντες (having entered) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) οἶκόν (house) μου (of me), μένετε (abide).” καὶ (And) παρεβιάσατο (she persuaded) ἡμᾶς (us). ¹⁶ Ἐγένετο (It happened) δὲ (now), πορευομένων (going) ἡμῶν (of us) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) προσευχὴν (place of prayer), παιδίσκην (a girl) τινὰ (certain), ἔχουσαν (having) πνεῦμα (a spirit) Πύθωνα (of Python), ὑπαντῆσαι (met) ἡμῖν (us), ἥτις (who) ἐργασίαν (gain) πολλὴν (much) παρεῖχεν (was bringing) τοῖς (the) κυρίοις (masters) αὐτῆς (of her) μαντευομένη (by fortune-telling). ¹⁷ αὕτη (She), κατακολουθοῦσα (having followed) τῷ (-) Παύλῳ (Paul) καὶ (and) ἡμῖν (us), ἔκραζεν (was crying out), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτοι (These) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) δοῦλοι (servants) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) τοῦ (-) Ὑψίστου (Most High) εἰσίν (are), οἵτινες (who) καταγγέλλουσιν (proclaim) ὑμῖν (to you) ὁδὸν (the way) σωτηρίας (of salvation).” ¹⁸ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (then) ἐποίει (she continued) ἐπὶ (for) πολλὰς (many) ἡμέρας (days). διαπονηθεὶς (Having been distressed) δὲ (then) Παῦλος (Paul), καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέψας (having turned) τῷ (to the) πνεύματι (spirit), εἶπεν (he said), “Παραγγέλλω (I command) σοι (you) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐξελθεῖν (to come out) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῆς (her).” καὶ (And) ἐξῆλθεν (it came out) αὐτῇ (the same) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour). ¹⁹ Ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) κύριοι (masters) αὐτῆς (of her) ὅτι (that) ἐξῆλθεν (was gone) ἡ (the) ἐλπὶς (hope) τῆς (of the) ἐργασίας (profit) αὐτῶν (of them), ἐπιλαβόμενοι (having taken hold of) τὸν (-) Παῦλον (Paul) καὶ (and) τὸν (-) Σιλᾶν (Silas), εἵλκυσαν (they dragged them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἀγορὰν (marketplace) ἐπὶ (before) τοὺς (the) ἄρχοντας (rulers); ²⁰ καὶ (and) προσαγαγόντες (having brought up) αὐτοὺς (them) τοῖς (to the) στρατηγοῖς (magistrates), εἶπαν (they said), “Οὗτοι (These) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) ἐκταράσσουσιν (exceedingly trouble) ἡμῶν (of us) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city), Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) ὑπάρχοντες (being), ²¹ καὶ (and) καταγγέλλουσιν (preach) ἔθη (customs), ἃ (that) οὐκ (not) ἔξεστιν (it is lawful) ἡμῖν (for us) παραδέχεσθαι (to accept) οὐδὲ (nor) ποιεῖν (to practice), Ῥωμαίοις (Romans) οὖσιν (being).” ²² Καὶ (And) συνεπέστη (rose up together) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) κατ’ (against) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) στρατηγοὶ (magistrates) περιρήξαντες (having torn off) αὐτῶν (of them) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments), ἐκέλευον (were commanding that) ῥαβδίζειν (they be beaten with rods). ²³ πολλάς (Many) τε* (then) ἐπιθέντες (having laid) αὐτοῖς (on them) πληγὰς (blows), ἔβαλον (they cast them) εἰς (into) φυλακήν (prison), παραγγείλαντες (having charged) τῷ (the) δεσμοφύλακι (jailer) ἀσφαλῶς (securely) τηρεῖν (to keep) αὐτούς (them), ²⁴ ὃς (who) παραγγελίαν (an order) τοιαύτην (such) λαβὼν (having received), ἔβαλεν (threw) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἐσωτέραν (inner) φυλακὴν (prison), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) ἠσφαλίσατο (fastened) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) ξύλον (stocks). ²⁵ Κατὰ (Toward) δὲ (now) τὸ (-) μεσονύκτιον (midnight), Παῦλος (Paul) καὶ (and) Σιλᾶς (Silas), προσευχόμενοι (praying), ὕμνουν (were singing praises to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God). ἐπηκροῶντο (Were listening) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (to them) οἱ (the) δέσμιοι (prisoners). ²⁶ ἄφνω (Suddenly) δὲ (then) σεισμὸς (earthquake) ἐγένετο (there was) μέγας (a great), ὥστε (so that) σαλευθῆναι (were shaken) τὰ (the) θεμέλια (foundations) τοῦ (of the) δεσμωτηρίου (prison house); ἠνεῴχθησαν (were opened) δὲ (then) παραχρῆμα (immediately) αἱ (the) θύραι (doors) πᾶσαι (all), καὶ (and) πάντων (of all), τὰ (the) δεσμὰ (chains) ἀνέθη (were loosed). ²⁷ Ἔξυπνος (Awoken) δὲ (then) γενόμενος (having been) ὁ (the) δεσμοφύλαξ (jailer), καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen) ἀνεῳγμένας (open) τὰς (the) θύρας (doors) τῆς (of the) φυλακῆς (prison), σπασάμενος (having drawn) τὴν (his) μάχαιραν (sword), ἤμελλεν (he was about) ἑαυτὸν (himself) ἀναιρεῖν (to kill), νομίζων (supposing) ἐκπεφευγέναι (to have escaped) τοὺς (the) δεσμίους (prisoners). ²⁸ ἐφώνησεν (Called out) δὲ (however) «‹ὁ› (-) Παῦλος» (Paul) «μεγάλῃ (loud) φωνῇ» (in a voice), λέγων (saying), “Μηδὲν (Not) πράξῃς (do) σεαυτῷ (to yourself) κακόν (harm); ἅπαντες (all) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (we are) ἐνθάδε (here).” ²⁹ Αἰτήσας (Having called for) δὲ (now) φῶτα (lights), εἰσεπήδησεν (he rushed in), καὶ (and) ἔντρομος (terrified) γενόμενος (having become), προσέπεσεν (he fell down before) τῷ (-) Παύλῳ (Paul) καὶ (and) ‹τῷ› (-) Σιλᾷ (Silas). ³⁰ καὶ (And) προαγαγὼν (having brought) αὐτοὺς (them) ἔξω (out) ἔφη (he was saying), “Κύριοι (Sirs), τί (what) με (of me) δεῖ (is necessary) ποιεῖν (to do), ἵνα (that) σωθῶ (I may be saved)?” ³¹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said), “Πίστευσον (Believe) ἐπὶ (on) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), καὶ (and) σωθήσῃ (you will be saved), σὺ (you) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) οἶκός (household) σου (of you).” ³² καὶ (And) ἐλάλησαν (they spoke) αὐτῷ (to him) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (of the) κυρίου* (Lord), σὺν (along with) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (those) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house) αὐτοῦ (of him). ³³ καὶ (And) παραλαβὼν (having taken) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour) τῆς (of the) νυκτὸς (night), ἔλουσεν (he washed them) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) πληγῶν (wounds); καὶ (and) ἐβαπτίσθη (he was baptized), αὐτὸς (he) καὶ (and) οἱ (the household) αὐτοῦ (of him) πάντες* (all) παραχρῆμα (immediately).

³ Εἶπέν (He said) τε (then), “Εἰς (Into) τί (what) οὖν (then) ἐβαπτίσθητε (were you baptized)?” Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said), “Εἰς (Into) τὸ (-) Ἰωάννου (John's) βάπτισμα (baptism).” ⁴ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) Παῦλος (Paul), “Ἰωάννης (John) ἐβάπτισεν (baptized) βάπτισμα (a baptism) μετανοίας (of repentance), τῷ (the) λαῷ (people) λέγων (telling) εἰς (in) τὸν (the One) ἐρχόμενον (coming) μετ’ (after) αὐτὸν (him) ἵνα (that) πιστεύσωσιν (they should believe), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), εἰς (in) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus).” ⁵ Ἀκούσαντες (Having heard) δὲ (then), ἐβαπτίσθησαν (they were baptized) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

²⁸ Γνωστὸν (Known) οὖν (therefore) ἔστω (be it) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) ἀπεστάλη (has been sent) τοῦτο (this) τὸ (-) σωτήριον (salvation) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); αὐτοὶ (they) καὶ (then) ἀκούσονται (will listen)!”

³ ἢ (Or) ἀγνοεῖτε (are you unaware) ὅτι (that) ὅσοι (as many as) ἐβαπτίσθημεν (have been baptized) εἰς (into) Χριστὸν (Christ) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), εἰς (into) τὸν (the) θάνατον (death) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐβαπτίσθημεν (have been baptized)? ⁴ συνετάφημεν (We were buried) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (with Him) διὰ (through) τοῦ (-) βαπτίσματος (baptism) εἰς (into) τὸν (-) θάνατον (death), ἵνα (so that) ὥσπερ (just as) ἠγέρθη (was raised up) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) διὰ (by) τῆς (the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) ἐν (in) καινότητι (newness) ζωῆς (of life) περιπατήσωμεν (should walk).

¹⁸ Ἀλλὰ (But) λέγω (I ask), μὴ (no) οὐκ (not) ἤκουσαν (did they hear)? μενοῦνγε (Indeed): “Εἰς (Into) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) ἐξῆλθεν (has gone out) ὁ (the) φθόγγος (voice) αὐτῶν (of them); καὶ (and) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) πέρατα (ends) τῆς (of the) οἰκουμένης (world), τὰ (the) ῥήματα (words) αὐτῶν (of them).”

¹³ Μεμέρισται (Has been divided) ὁ (-) Χριστός (Christ)? μὴ (Not) Παῦλος (Paul) ἐσταυρώθη (was crucified) ὑπὲρ (for) ὑμῶν (you)? ἢ (Or) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) Παύλου (of Paul) ἐβαπτίσθητε (were you baptized)? ¹⁴ εὐχαριστῶ (I thank) [τῷ (-) θεῷ] (God) ὅτι (that) οὐδένα (no one) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐβάπτισα (I baptized), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) Κρίσπον (Crispus) καὶ (and) Γάϊον (Gaius), ¹⁵ ἵνα (so that) μή (not) τις (anyone) εἴπῃ (should say) ὅτι (that) εἰς (into) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (my) ὄνομα (name) ἐβαπτίσθητε (you were baptized). ¹⁶ ἐβάπτισα (I baptized) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) τὸν (the) Στεφανᾶ (of Stephanas) οἶκον (household); λοιπὸν (as to the rest), οὐκ (not) οἶδα (I know) εἴ (whether) τινα (any) ἄλλον (other) ἐβάπτισα (I baptized).

⁴ Διαιρέσεις (Varieties) δὲ (now) χαρισμάτων (of gifts) εἰσίν (there are), τὸ (-) δὲ (but) αὐτὸ (the same) Πνεῦμα (Spirit); ⁵ καὶ (and) διαιρέσεις (varieties) διακονιῶν (of services) εἰσιν (there are), καὶ (but) ὁ (the) αὐτὸς (same) Κύριος (Lord); ⁶ καὶ (and) διαιρέσεις (varieties) ἐνεργημάτων (of workings) εἰσίν (there are), ὁ (the) δὲ (but) αὐτὸς (same) Θεός (God) ὁ (-) ἐνεργῶν (is working) τὰ (the) πάντα (all things) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (everyone).

²⁹ Ἐπεὶ (Otherwise) τί (what) ποιήσουσιν (will they do) οἱ (who) βαπτιζόμενοι (are baptized) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead)? εἰ (If) ὅλως (at all) νεκροὶ (the dead) οὐκ (not) ἐγείρονται (are raised), τί (why) καὶ (also) βαπτίζονται (are they baptized) ὑπὲρ (for) αὐτῶν (them)?

¹⁴ Ἡ (The) χάρις (grace) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (of) Θεοῦ (God), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κοινωνία (fellowship) τοῦ (of the) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματος (Spirit), μετὰ (be with) πάντων (all) ὑμῶν (of you).

²⁷ ὅσοι (As many as) γὰρ (for) εἰς (into) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐβαπτίσθητε (you were baptized), Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐνεδύσασθε (you have put on).

¹⁸ ὅτι (For) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἔχομεν (we have) τὴν (the) προσαγωγὴν (access) οἱ (-) ἀμφότεροι (both) ἐν (by) ἑνὶ (one) Πνεύματι (Spirit) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father).

²³ εἴ (if) γε (indeed) ἐπιμένετε (you continue) τῇ (-) πίστει (in the faith), τεθεμελιωμένοι (established) καὶ (and) ἑδραῖοι (firm), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μετακινούμενοι (being moved away) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἐλπίδος (hope) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) οὗ (that) ἠκούσατε (you have heard), τοῦ (-) κηρυχθέντος (having been proclaimed) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) κτίσει (creation) τῇ (-) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven), οὗ (of which) ἐγενόμην (have become) ἐγὼ (I) Παῦλος (Paul) διάκονος (a minister).

²¹ ὃ (which) καὶ (also) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀντίτυπον (prefigures) νῦν (now) σῴζει (saving) βάπτισμα (baptism), οὐ (not) σαρκὸς (of flesh) ἀπόθεσις (a putting away) ῥύπου (of the filth), ἀλλὰ (but) συνειδήσεως (of a conscience) ἀγαθῆς (good), ἐπερώτημα (the demand) εἰς (toward) Θεόν (God), δι’ (through) ἀναστάσεως (the resurrection) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ),

⁴ Ἰωάννης (John), Ταῖς (To the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἐκκλησίαις (churches) ταῖς (-) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἀσίᾳ (Asia): Χάρις (Grace) ὑμῖν (to you) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) ἀπὸ (from) ὁ (Him) ὢν (being) καὶ (and) ὁ (who) ἦν (was) καὶ (and) ὁ (who) ἐρχόμενος (is coming), καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) Πνευμάτων (Spirits) ἃ (-) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ⁵ καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the) μάρτυς (witness) ὁ (-) πιστός (faithful), ὁ (the) πρωτότοκος (firstborn) τῶν (of the) νεκρῶν (dead) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἄρχων (ruler) τῶν (of the) βασιλέων (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth). Τῷ (To the One) ἀγαπῶντι (loving) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) λύσαντι (releasing) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐν (through) τῷ (the) αἵματι (blood) αὐτοῦ (of Him) — ⁶ καὶ (and) ἐποίησεν (He has made) ἡμᾶς (us) βασιλείαν (a kingdom), ἱερεῖς (priests) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρὶ (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him) — αὐτῷ (to Him be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) κράτος (dominion) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

²³ “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡ (the) παρθένος (virgin) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἕξει (will hold), καὶ (and) τέξεται (will bear) υἱόν (a son), καὶ (and) καλέσουσιν (they will call) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) Ἐμμανουήλ (Immanuel),” ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) μεθερμηνευόμενον (being translated), “Μεθ’ (With) ἡμῶν (us) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).”

¹³ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) εἰσενέγκῃς (lead) ἡμᾶς (us) εἰς (into) πειρασμόν (temptation), Ἀλλὰ (but) ῥῦσαι (deliver) ἡμᾶς (us) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) πονηροῦ (evil).’

²⁴ Πᾶς (Everyone) οὖν (therefore), ὅστις (whoever) ἀκούει (hears) μου (My) τοὺς (-) λόγους (words) τούτους (these), καὶ (and) ποιεῖ (does) αὐτούς (them), ὁμοιωθήσεται (will be like) ἀνδρὶ (a man) φρονίμῳ (wise), ὅστις (who) ᾠκοδόμησεν (built) αὐτοῦ (his) τὴν (-) οἰκίαν (house) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) πέτραν (rock). ²⁵ καὶ (And) κατέβη (came down) ἡ (the) βροχὴ (rain), καὶ (and) ἦλθον (came) οἱ (the) ποταμοὶ (torrents), καὶ (and) ἔπνευσαν (blew) οἱ (the) ἄνεμοι (winds), καὶ (and) προσέπεσαν (beat) τῇ (that) οἰκίᾳ (house) ἐκείνῃ (upon); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔπεσεν (it fell), τεθεμελίωτο (it had been founded) γὰρ (for) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) πέτραν (rock). ²⁶ καὶ (And) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἀκούων (hearing) μου (My) τοὺς (-) λόγους (words) τούτους (these), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ποιῶν (doing) αὐτοὺς (them), ὁμοιωθήσεται (he will be likened) ἀνδρὶ (to a man) μωρῷ (foolish), ὅστις (who) ᾠκοδόμησεν (built) αὐτοῦ (of him) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) ἄμμον (sand). ²⁷ καὶ (And) κατέβη (came down) ἡ (the) βροχὴ (rain), καὶ (and) ἦλθον (came) οἱ (the) ποταμοὶ (torrents), καὶ (and) ἔπνευσαν (blew) οἱ (the) ἄνεμοι (winds), καὶ (and) προσέκοψαν (beat) τῇ (that) οἰκίᾳ (house) ἐκείνῃ (upon), καὶ (and) ἔπεσεν (it fell)— καὶ (and) ἦν (was) ἡ (the) πτῶσις (fall) αὐτῆς (of it) μεγάλη (great).”

²⁰ οὗ (Where) γάρ (for) εἰσιν (are) δύο (two) ἢ (or) τρεῖς (three) συνηγμένοι (gathered together) εἰς (unto) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (My) ὄνομα (name), ἐκεῖ (there) εἰμι (am I) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) αὐτῶν (of them).”

³ Καθημένου (As was sitting) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (He) ἐπὶ (upon) τοῦ (the) ὄρους (Mount) τῶν (-) Ἐλαιῶν (of Olives), προσῆλθον (came to) αὐτῷ (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private), λέγοντες (saying), “Εἰπὲ (Tell) ἡμῖν (us), πότε (when) ταῦτα (these things) ἔσται (will be)? καὶ (And) τί (what is) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) τῆς (-) σῆς (of Your) παρουσίας (coming) καὶ (and) συντελείας (of the consummation) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age)?”

²⁰ ἐκεῖνοι (They) δὲ (now) ἐξελθόντες (having gone forth), ἐκήρυξαν (preached) πανταχοῦ (everywhere), τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) συνεργοῦντος (working with them) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) βεβαιοῦντος (confirming) διὰ (by) τῶν (the) ἐπακολουθούντων (accompanying) σημείων (signs).

²⁷ οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) ὑπεστειλάμην (I shrunk back) τοῦ (-) μὴ (not) ἀναγγεῖλαι (from declaring) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) βουλὴν (counsel) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ὑμῖν (to you).

² Ἐπαινῶ (I commend) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you) ὅτι (that) πάντα (in all things) μου (me) μέμνησθε (you have remembered), καὶ (and) καθὼς (as) παρέδωκα (I delivered) ὑμῖν (to you), τὰς (the) παραδόσεις (teachings) κατέχετε (you are keeping).

³⁷ Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) δοκεῖ (considers) προφήτης (a prophet) εἶναι (himself to be), ἢ (or) πνευματικός (spiritual), ἐπιγινωσκέτω (let him recognize) ἃ (the things) γράφω (I write) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐστὶν (are) ἐντολή (the commands).

²⁰ Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) οὐχ (not) οὕτως (this way) ἐμάθετε (learned) τὸν (-) Χριστόν (Christ), ²¹ εἴ (if) γε (indeed) αὐτὸν (Him) ἠκούσατε (you have heard) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) ἐδιδάχθητε (have been taught), καθώς (just as) ἐστιν (is) ἀλήθεια (the truth) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ²² ἀποθέσθαι (Are to have put off) ὑμᾶς (you), κατὰ (concerning) τὴν (the) προτέραν (former) ἀναστροφὴν (way of life), τὸν (the) παλαιὸν (old) ἄνθρωπον (man), τὸν (which) φθειρόμενον (is being corrupted), κατὰ (according to) τὰς (its) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) τῆς (-) ἀπάτης (of deceit), ²³ ἀνανεοῦσθαι (to be renewed) δὲ (then) τῷ (in the) πνεύματι (spirit) τοῦ (of the) νοὸς (mind) ὑμῶν (of you), ²⁴ καὶ (and) ἐνδύσασθαι (to have put on) τὸν (the) καινὸν (new) ἄνθρωπον (man), τὸν (-) κατὰ (according to) Θεὸν (God) κτισθέντα (having been created) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) καὶ (and) ὁσιότητι (holiness) τῆς (-) ἀληθείας (of truth). ²⁵ Διὸ (Therefore) ἀποθέμενοι (having put off) τὸ (-) ψεῦδος (falsehood), λαλεῖτε (let speak) ἀλήθειαν (truth) ἕκαστος (each one) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) πλησίον (neighbor) αὐτοῦ (of him), ὅτι (because) ἐσμὲν (we are) ἀλλήλων (of one another) μέλη (members). ²⁶ “Ὀργίζεσθε (Be angry), καὶ (and yet) μὴ (not) ἁμαρτάνετε (sin).” ὁ (The) ἥλιος (sun) μὴ (not) ἐπιδυέτω (let set) ἐπὶ (upon) [τῷ] (-) παροργισμῷ (anger) ὑμῶν (of you); ²⁷ μηδὲ (neither) δίδοτε (give) τόπον (opportunity) τῷ (to the) διαβόλῳ (devil). ²⁸ Ὁ (The one) κλέπτων (stealing), μηκέτι (no longer) κλεπτέτω (let him steal); μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (however) κοπιάτω (let him toil), ἐργαζόμενος (working) ταῖς (with the) ἰδίαις (own) χερσὶν (hands) τὸ (what) ἀγαθόν (is good), ἵνα (so that) ἔχῃ (he may have something) μεταδιδόναι (to impart) τῷ (to the one) χρείαν (need) ἔχοντι (having). ²⁹ Πᾶς (Any) λόγος (word) σαπρὸς (unwholesome) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) ὑμῶν (of you) μὴ (not) ἐκπορευέσθω (let go forth), ἀλλὰ (but) εἴ (if) τις (any) ἀγαθὸς (good) πρὸς (for) οἰκοδομὴν (edification) τῆς (of the) χρείας (need), ἵνα (so that) δῷ (it may give) χάριν (grace) τοῖς (to those) ἀκούουσιν (hearing). ³⁰ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) λυπεῖτε (grieve) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) ἐσφραγίσθητε (you were sealed) εἰς (for) ἡμέραν (the day) ἀπολυτρώσεως (of redemption). ³¹ Πᾶσα (All) πικρία (bitterness), καὶ (and) θυμὸς (rage), καὶ (and) ὀργὴ (anger), καὶ (and) κραυγὴ (clamor), καὶ (and) βλασφημία (slander), ἀρθήτω (let be removed) ἀφ’ (from) ὑμῶν (you), σὺν (along with) πάσῃ (all) κακίᾳ (malice). ³² γίνεσθε (Be) δὲ (now) εἰς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another) χρηστοί (kind), εὔσπλαγχνοι (tender-hearted), χαριζόμενοι (forgiving) ἑαυτοῖς (each other), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἐχαρίσατο (forgave) ὑμῖν (you).

²⁸ ὃν (whom) ἡμεῖς (we) καταγγέλλομεν (preach), νουθετοῦντες (admonishing) πάντα (every) ἄνθρωπον (man) καὶ (and) διδάσκοντες (teaching) πάντα (every) ἄνθρωπον (man) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) σοφίᾳ (wisdom), ἵνα (so that) παραστήσωμεν (we may present) πάντα (every) ἄνθρωπον (man) τέλειον (perfect) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ).

¹ Σὺ (You) δὲ (however) λάλει (speak) ἃ (the things that) πρέπει (are consistent with) τῇ (-) ὑγιαινούσῃ (sound) διδασκαλίᾳ (doctrine). ² Πρεσβύτας (The aged men) νηφαλίους (sober-minded) εἶναι (are to be), σεμνούς (dignified), σώφρονας (self-controlled), ὑγιαίνοντας (sound) τῇ (-) πίστει (in faith), τῇ (-) ἀγάπῃ (in love), τῇ (-) ὑπομονῇ (in endurance); ³ πρεσβύτιδας (the aged women) ὡσαύτως (likewise), ἐν (in) καταστήματι (behavior) ἱεροπρεπεῖς (reverent), μὴ (not) διαβόλους (slanderers), μηδὲ (not) οἴνῳ (to wine) πολλῷ (much) δεδουλωμένας (being enslaved), καλοδιδασκάλους (teachers of what is good), ⁴ ἵνα (so that) σωφρονίζωσιν (they may train) τὰς (the) νέας (young women) φιλάνδρους (lovers of their husbands) εἶναι (to be), φιλοτέκνους (loving their children), ⁵ σώφρονας (self-controlled), ἁγνάς (pure), οἰκουργούς (keepers at home), ἀγαθάς (kind), ὑποτασσομένας (being subject) τοῖς (to the) ἰδίοις (own) ἀνδράσιν (husbands), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) βλασφημῆται (should be maligned). ⁶ Τοὺς (The) νεωτέρους (younger men), ὡσαύτως (likewise), παρακάλει (exhort) σωφρονεῖν (to be self-controlled). ⁷ Περὶ (In) πάντα (all things) σεαυτὸν (yourself) παρεχόμενος (be holding forth) τύπον (as a pattern) καλῶν (of good) ἔργων (works); ἐν (in) τῇ (the) διδασκαλίᾳ (teaching) ἀφθορίαν (integrity), σεμνότητα (dignity), ⁸ λόγον (speech) ὑγιῆ (sound), ἀκατάγνωστον (beyond reproach), ἵνα (so that) ὁ (he who is) ἐξ (of the) ἐναντίας (contrary) ἐντραπῇ (may be ashamed), μηδὲν (nothing) ἔχων (having) λέγειν (to say) περὶ (concerning) ἡμῶν (us) φαῦλον (evil). ⁹ Δούλους (Servants) ἰδίοις (to their own) δεσπόταις (masters) ὑποτάσσεσθαι (are to be subject), ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (everything) εὐαρέστους (well-pleasing) εἶναι (to be), μὴ (not) ἀντιλέγοντας (gainsaying), ¹⁰ μὴ (not) νοσφιζομένους (pilfering), ἀλλὰ (but) πᾶσαν (all) πίστιν (fidelity) ἐνδεικνυμένους (showing) ἀγαθήν (good), ἵνα (so that) τὴν (the) διδασκαλίαν (doctrine) τὴν (of) τοῦ (the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), Θεοῦ (God), κοσμῶσιν (they may adorn) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all things).

¹⁰ οἵ (who) ποτε (once were) οὐ (not) λαὸς (a people), νῦν (now) δὲ (however) λαὸς (the people) Θεοῦ (of God); οἱ (those) οὐκ (not) ἠλεημένοι (having received mercy), νῦν (now) δὲ (however) ἐλεηθέντες (having received mercy). ¹¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), παρακαλῶ (I exhort you) ὡς (as) παροίκους (aliens) καὶ (and) παρεπιδήμους (sojourners), ἀπέχεσθαι (to abstain) τῶν (from) σαρκικῶν (fleshly) ἐπιθυμιῶν (desires), αἵτινες (which) στρατεύονται (war) κατὰ (against) τῆς (the) ψυχῆς (soul), ¹² τὴν (the) ἀναστροφὴν (conduct) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) ἔχοντες (keeping) καλήν (honorable), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (wherein) ᾧ (which) καταλαλοῦσιν (they speak against) ὑμῶν (you) ὡς (as) κακοποιῶν (evildoers), ἐκ (through) τῶν (the) καλῶν (good) ἔργων (deeds) ἐποπτεύοντες (having witnessed), δοξάσωσιν (they may glorify) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (the day) ἐπισκοπῆς (of visitation). ¹³ Ὑποτάγητε (Be in subjection) πάσῃ (to every) ἀνθρωπίνῃ (human) κτίσει (institution) διὰ (for the sake of) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord), εἴτε (whether) βασιλεῖ (to the king) ὡς (as) ὑπερέχοντι (being supreme), ¹⁴ εἴτε (or) ἡγεμόσιν (to governors), ὡς (as) δι’ (by) αὐτοῦ (him) πεμπομένοις (being sent) εἰς (for) ἐκδίκησιν (vengeance) κακοποιῶν (to evildoers), ἔπαινον (praise) δὲ (then) ἀγαθοποιῶν (to well-doers), ¹⁵ ὅτι (because) οὕτως (this) ἐστὶν (is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀγαθοποιοῦντας (doing good), φιμοῦν (to put to silence) τὴν (the) τῶν (-) ἀφρόνων (of foolish) ἀνθρώπων (men) ἀγνωσίαν (ignorance), ¹⁶ ὡς (as) ἐλεύθεροι (free), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ὡς (as) ἐπικάλυμμα (a cover-up) ἔχοντες (having) τῆς (for) κακίας (evil) τὴν (the) ἐλευθερίαν (freedom), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) Θεοῦ (of God) δοῦλοι (servants). ¹⁷ Πάντας (Everyone) τιμήσατε (honor): τὴν (The) ἀδελφότητα (brotherhood) ἀγαπᾶτε (love), τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) φοβεῖσθε (fear), τὸν (the) βασιλέα (king) τιμᾶτε (honor). ¹⁸ Οἱ (-) οἰκέται (Servants), ὑποτασσόμενοι (be subject) ἐν (with) παντὶ (all) φόβῳ (fear) τοῖς (to) δεσπόταις (masters), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) τοῖς (to the) ἀγαθοῖς (good) καὶ (and) ἐπιεικέσιν (gentle), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) τοῖς (to the) σκολιοῖς (unreasonable). ¹⁹ τοῦτο (This) γὰρ (for) χάρις (is acceptable), εἰ (if) διὰ (for sake of) συνείδησιν (conscience) Θεοῦ (toward God), ὑποφέρει (endures) τις (anyone) λύπας (griefs), πάσχων (suffering) ἀδίκως (unjustly).

⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸ (very reason) τοῦτο (for this) δὲ (now), σπουδὴν (earnestness) πᾶσαν (all) παρεισενέγκαντες (having brought in), ἐπιχορηγήσατε (supplement) ἐν (into) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith) ὑμῶν (of you) τὴν (-) ἀρετήν (virtue), ἐν (into) δὲ (and) τῇ (-) ἀρετῇ (virtue) τὴν (-) γνῶσιν (knowledge), ⁶ ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) γνώσει (knowledge) τὴν (-) ἐγκράτειαν (self-control), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ἐγκρατείᾳ (self-control) τὴν (-) ὑπομονήν (endurance), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ὑπομονῇ (endurance) τὴν (-) εὐσέβειαν (godliness), ⁷ ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) εὐσεβείᾳ (godliness) τὴν (-) φιλαδελφίαν (brotherly affection), ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) φιλαδελφίᾳ (brotherly affection) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love). ⁸ ταῦτα (These things) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (in you) ὑπάρχοντα (being) καὶ (and) πλεονάζοντα (abounding), οὐκ (neither) ἀργοὺς (idle) οὐδὲ (nor) ἀκάρπους (unfruitful) καθίστησιν (make you), εἰς (as to) τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge). ⁹ ᾧ (In whomever) γὰρ (for) μὴ (not) πάρεστιν (are present) ταῦτα (these things), τυφλός (blind) ἐστιν (he is), μυωπάζων (being short sighted), λήθην (forgetfulness) λαβὼν (having received) τοῦ (of the) καθαρισμοῦ (purification) τῶν (the) πάλαι (former) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins). ¹⁰ Διὸ (Therefore) μᾶλλον (rather), ἀδελφοί (brothers), σπουδάσατε (be diligent), βεβαίαν (sure) ὑμῶν (your) τὴν (-) κλῆσιν (calling) καὶ (and) ἐκλογὴν (election) ποιεῖσθαι (to make), ταῦτα (these things) γὰρ (for) ποιοῦντες (practicing) οὐ (never) μὴ (not) πταίσητέ (shall you stumble) ποτε (at any time). ¹¹ οὕτως (In this way) γὰρ (for) πλουσίως (richly) ἐπιχορηγηθήσεται (will be supplied) ὑμῖν (to you) ἡ (the) εἴσοδος (entrance) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) αἰώνιον (eternal) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

² μνησθῆναι (to remember) τῶν (the) προειρημένων (having been spoken beforehand) ῥημάτων (words)— ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) ἁγίων (holy) προφητῶν (prophets) καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) τῶν (-) ἀποστόλων (apostles) ὑμῶν (through your)— ἐντολῆς (commandment) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior),

³ Καὶ (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γινώσκομεν (we know) ὅτι (that) ἐγνώκαμεν (we have come to know) αὐτόν (Him), ἐὰν (if) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τηρῶμεν (we should keep). ⁴ ὁ (The one) λέγων (saying) ὅτι (-), “Ἔγνωκα (I have known) αὐτόν (Him),” καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him) μὴ (not) τηρῶν (keeping), ψεύστης (a liar) ἐστίν (he is), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (him) ἡ (the) ἀλήθεια (truth) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is).

¹⁹ [καὶ] (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γνωσόμεθα (we will know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) ἐσμέν (we are), καὶ (and) ἔμπροσθεν (before) αὐτοῦ (Him) πείσομεν (we will assure) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) ἡμῶν (of us), ²⁰ ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) καταγινώσκῃ (should condemn us) ἡμῶν (our) ἡ (-) καρδία (heart), ὅτι (that) μείζων (greater than) ἐστὶν (is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τῆς (the) καρδίας (heart) ἡμῶν (of us), καὶ (and) γινώσκει (He knows) πάντα (all things). ²¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), ἐὰν (if) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) ‹ἡμῶν› (of us) «μὴ (not) καταγινώσκῃ» (should condemn us), παρρησίαν (confidence) ἔχομεν (we have) πρὸς (toward) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ²² καὶ (and) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) αἰτῶμεν (we might ask), λαμβάνομεν (we receive) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him), ὅτι (because) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τηροῦμεν (we keep), καὶ (and) τὰ (the things) ἀρεστὰ (pleasing) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him) ποιοῦμεν (we do). ²³ καὶ (And) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) ἐντολὴ (commandment) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἵνα (that) πιστεύσωμεν (we should believe) τῷ (in the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), καὶ (and) ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another), καθὼς (just as) ἔδωκεν (He gave) ἐντολὴν (the commandment) ἡμῖν (to us). ²⁴ καὶ (And) ὁ (the one) τηρῶν (keeping) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) μένει (abides), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (He) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him). καὶ (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γινώσκομεν (we know) ὅτι (that) μένει (He abides) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us), ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) οὗ (whom) ἡμῖν (to us) ἔδωκεν (He has given).

¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Ζῶν (Living One); καὶ (and) ἐγενόμην (I was) νεκρὸς (dead), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold) ζῶν (living) εἰμι (I am) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) ἔχω (I have) τὰς (the) κλεῖς (keys) τοῦ (of) θανάτου (Death) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of) ᾅδου (Hades).

¹⁴ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) πλύνοντες (washing) τὰς (the) στολὰς (robes) αὐτῶν (of them), ἵνα (that) ἔσται (will be) ἡ (the) ἐξουσία (right) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (the) ξύλον (tree) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life), καὶ (and) τοῖς (by the) πυλῶσιν (gates) εἰσέλθωσιν (they shall enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city).

²⁰ Λέγει (Says) ὁ (the One) μαρτυρῶν (testifying) ταῦτα (these things), “Ναί (Yes), ἔρχομαι (I am coming) ταχύ (quickly).” Ἀμήν (Amen). ἔρχου (Come), Κύριε (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus)! ²¹ Ἡ (The) χάρις (grace) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) μετὰ (be with) πάντων (all) ⧼ἁγίων (the saints).
