⁴ καὶ (And) συναγαγὼν (having gathered together) πάντας (all) τοὺς (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) γραμματεῖς (scribes) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people), ἐπυνθάνετο (he was inquiring) παρ’ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ποῦ (where) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ) γεννᾶται (was to be born).

²⁹ ἦν (He was) γὰρ (for) διδάσκων (teaching) αὐτοὺς (them) ὡς (as) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔχων (having), καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) ὡς (as) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) αὐτῶν (of them).

⁵² Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), πᾶς (every) γραμματεὺς (scribe) μαθητευθεὶς (having been discipled) τῇ (into the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens) ὅμοιός (like) ἐστιν (is) ἀνθρώπῳ (a man), οἰκοδεσπότῃ (a master of a house), ὅστις (who) ἐκβάλλει (puts forth) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) θησαυροῦ (treasure) αὐτοῦ (of him) καινὰ (things new) καὶ (and) παλαιά (old).”

¹⁵ ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) τὰ (the) θαυμάσια (wonders) ἃ (that) ἐποίησεν (He did) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) παῖδας (children) τοὺς (the) κράζοντας (crying out) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) καὶ (and) λέγοντας (saying), “Ὡσαννὰ (Hosanna) τῷ (to the) υἱῷ (Son) Δαυίδ (of David),” ἠγανάκτησαν (they were indignant)

²³ Καὶ (And) ἐλθόντος (having come) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple), προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) διδάσκοντι (teaching), οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἐν (By) ποίᾳ (what) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority) ταῦτα (these things) ποιεῖς (are You doing)? καὶ (And) τίς (who) σοι (to You) ἔδωκεν (gave) τὴν (the) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ταύτην (this)?”

³ Τότε (Then) συνήχθησαν (were gathered together) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) εἰς (in) τὴν (the) αὐλὴν (courtyard) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest), τοῦ (who) λεγομένου (is called) Καϊάφα (Caiaphas),

⁴⁷ Καὶ (And) ἔτι (yet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λαλοῦντος (as He is speaking), ἰδοὺ (behold), Ἰούδας (Judas), εἷς (one) τῶν (of the) δώδεκα (Twelve), ἦλθεν (came), καὶ (and) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ὄχλος (a crowd) πολὺς (great), μετὰ (with) μαχαιρῶν (swords) καὶ (and) ξύλων (clubs), ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people).

¹ Πρωΐας (Morning) δὲ (then) γενομένης (having arrived), συμβούλιον (counsel) ἔλαβον (took) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ὥστε (so that) θανατῶσαι (they might put to death) αὐτόν (him).

³¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) αὐτοὺς (them) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it is necessary for) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) πολλὰ (many things) παθεῖν (to suffer), καὶ (and) ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι (to be rejected) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed), καὶ (and) μετὰ (after) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) ἀναστῆναι (to rise again).

¹⁹ Καὶ (And) ἐζήτησαν (sought) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) ἐπιβαλεῖν (to lay) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτὸν (Him) τὰς (-) χεῖρας (hands) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (that) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour); καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) τὸν (the) λαόν (people); ἔγνωσαν (they perceived) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) πρὸς (against) αὐτοὺς (them) εἶπεν (He was speaking) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this).

¹⁰ Εἱστήκεισαν (Had been standing by) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes), εὐτόνως (vehemently) κατηγοροῦντες (accusing) αὐτοῦ (Him).

¹⁰ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) διδάσκαλος (teacher) τοῦ (-) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel), καὶ (and) ταῦτα (these things) οὐ (not) γινώσκεις (know)?

³² Ἤκουσαν (Heard) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) τοῦ (the) ὄχλου (crowd) γογγύζοντος (murmuring) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him) ταῦτα (these things), καὶ (and) ἀπέστειλαν (sent) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) ὑπηρέτας (officers), ἵνα (that) πιάσωσιν (they might seize) αὐτόν (Him).

³ ἄγουσιν* (Bring) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) 〈πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν〉 (Him) γυναῖκα (a woman) ἐπὶ* (in) μοιχείᾳ (adultery) κατειλημμένην (having been caught), καὶ (and) στήσαντες (having set) αὐτὴν (her) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst),

³ ὁ (-) οὖν (Therefore) Ἰούδας (Judas), λαβὼν (having procured) τὴν (the) σπεῖραν (cohort) καὶ (and) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) καὶ (and) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) ὑπηρέτας (officers), ἔρχεται (comes) ἐκεῖ (there) μετὰ (with) φανῶν (lanterns), καὶ (and) λαμπάδων (torches), καὶ (and) ὅπλων (weapons).

⁵ Ἐγένετο (It came to pass) δὲ (then) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) αὔριον (next day) συναχθῆναι (were gathered together) αὐτῶν (their) τοὺς (-) ἄρχοντας (rulers) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) πρεσβυτέρους (elders) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) γραμματεῖς (scribes) ἐν (in) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem),

¹² συνεκίνησάν (They stirred up) τε (then) τὸν (the) λαὸν (people) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πρεσβυτέρους (elders) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes), καὶ (and) ἐπιστάντες (having come upon him), συνήρπασαν (they seized) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) ἤγαγον (brought him) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) συνέδριον (Council).

⁹ Ἐγένετο (Arose) δὲ (then) κραυγὴ (a clamor) μεγάλη (great), καὶ (and) ἀναστάντες (having risen up) τινὲς (some) τῶν (of the) γραμματέων (scribes) τοῦ (of the) μέρους (party) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees), διεμάχοντο (they were contending), λέγοντες (saying), “Οὐδὲν (Nothing) κακὸν (evil) εὑρίσκομεν (we find) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) τούτῳ (this). εἰ (What if) δὲ (now) πνεῦμα (a spirit) ἐλάλησεν (has spoken) αὐτῷ (to him), ἢ (or) ἄγγελος (an angel)?”
