¹⁷ Εἰ (If) δὲ (however) σὺ (you) Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew) ἐπονομάζῃ (are called), καὶ (and) ἐπαναπαύῃ (rely on) νόμῳ (the law), καὶ (and) καυχᾶσαι (boast) ἐν (in) Θεῷ (God);

⁹ καὶ (And) μὴ (not) δόξητε (presume) λέγειν (to say) ἐν (within) ἑαυτοῖς (yourselves), ‘Πατέρα (As father) ἔχομεν (we have) τὸν (-) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham).’ λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) δύναται (able is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) λίθων (stones) τούτων (these) ἐγεῖραι (to raise up) τέκνα (children) τῷ (unto) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham).

¹¹ λέγω (I say) δὲ (now) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) πολλοὶ (many) ἀπὸ (from) ἀνατολῶν (east) καὶ (and) δυσμῶν (west) ἥξουσιν (will come), καὶ (and) ἀνακλιθήσονται (will recline) μετὰ (with) Ἀβραὰμ (Abraham) καὶ (and) Ἰσαὰκ (Isaac) καὶ (and) Ἰακὼβ (Jacob) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens); ¹² οἱ (the) δὲ (however) υἱοὶ (sons) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) ἐκβληθήσονται (will be cast out), εἰς (into) τὸ (the) σκότος (darkness) τὸ (the) ἐξώτερον (outer), ἐκεῖ (there) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) κλαυθμὸς (weeping) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) βρυγμὸς (gnashing) τῶν (of the) ὀδόντων (teeth).”

²⁸ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ὀρθῶς (Correctly) ἀπεκρίθης (you have answered). τοῦτο (This) ποίει (do), καὶ (and) ζήσῃ (you will live).”

⁴⁵ Μὴ (Not) δοκεῖτε (think) ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) κατηγορήσω (will accuse) ὑμῶν (you) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ἔστιν (There is) ὁ (one) κατηγορῶν (accusing) ὑμῶν (you), Μωϋσῆς (Moses), εἰς (in) ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) ἠλπίκατε (have hoped).

¹⁹ Οὐ (Not) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) δέδωκεν* (has given) ὑμῖν (to you) τὸν (the) νόμον (law), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you) ποιεῖ (keeps) τὸν (the) νόμον (law)? τί (Why) με (Me) ζητεῖτε (do you seek) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill)?”

³³ Ἀπεκρίθησαν (They answered) πρὸς (unto) αὐτόν (Him), “Σπέρμα (Seed) Ἀβραάμ (of Abraham) ἐσμεν (we are), καὶ (and) οὐδενὶ (to no one) δεδουλεύκαμεν (have we been under bondage) πώποτε (ever). πῶς (How) σὺ (You) λέγεις (say) ὅτι (-), ‘Ἐλεύθεροι (Free) γενήσεσθε (you will become)’?”

⁴¹ ὑμεῖς (You) ποιεῖτε (are doing) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) ὑμῶν (of you).” Εἶπαν (They said) [οὖν] (therefore) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ἡμεῖς (We) ἐκ (of) πορνείας (sexual immorality) ‹οὐ (not) γεγεννήμεθα› (have been born); ἕνα (one) Πατέρα (Father) ἔχομεν (we have), τὸν (-) Θεόν (God).”

²⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐλοιδόρησαν (they railed at) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) εἶπον* (said), “Σὺ (You) μαθητὴς (a disciple) εἶ (are) ἐκείνου (of that One); ἡμεῖς (we) δὲ (however) τοῦ (-) Μωϋσέως (of Moses) ἐσμὲν (are) μαθηταί (disciples). ²⁹ ἡμεῖς (We) οἴδαμεν (know) ὅτι (that) Μωϋσεῖ (to Moses) λελάληκεν (has spoken) ὁ (-) Θεός (God); τοῦτον (this man) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) οἴδαμεν (we know) πόθεν (from where) ἐστίν (is).”

²³ ὃς (You who) ἐν (in) νόμῳ (law) καυχᾶσαι (boast), διὰ (through) τῆς (the) παραβάσεως (transgression) τοῦ (of the) νόμου (law), τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἀτιμάζεις (dishonor you)?

²⁸ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the one) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) φανερῷ (outward) Ἰουδαῖός (a Jew) ἐστιν (is); οὐδὲ (neither) ἡ (the one) ἐν (outwardly), τῷ (the) φανερῷ (outward) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (flesh), περιτομή (is circumcision); ²⁹ ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (he who is) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) κρυπτῷ (inward) Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew is one); καὶ (and) περιτομὴ (circumcision is) καρδίας (of heart), ἐν (in) πνεύματι (spirit), οὐ (not) γράμματι (in letter); οὗ (of whom) ὁ (the) ἔπαινος (praise) οὐκ (is not) ἐξ (of) ἀνθρώπων (men), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

⁴ οἵτινές (who) εἰσιν (are) Ἰσραηλῖται (Israelites), ὧν (whose is) ἡ (the) υἱοθεσία (divine adoption as sons), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) διαθῆκαι (covenants), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) νομοθεσία (lawgiving), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) λατρεία (service), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) ἐπαγγελίαι (promises); ⁵ ὧν (whose are) οἱ (the) πατέρες (patriarchs); καὶ (and) ἐξ (from) ὧν (whom is) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) τὸ (-) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (the flesh), ὁ (-) ὢν (being) ἐπὶ (over) πάντων (all) Θεὸς (God), εὐλογητὸς (blessed) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages). ἀμήν (Amen). ⁶ Οὐχ (It is not) οἷον (as) δὲ (however), ὅτι (that) ἐκπέπτωκεν (has failed) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) πάντες (all) οἱ (who are) ἐξ (of) Ἰσραήλ (Israel), οὗτοι (are these) Ἰσραήλ (Israel). ⁷ οὐδ’ (Nor) ὅτι (because) εἰσὶν (they are) σπέρμα (seed) Ἀβραάμ (of Abraham) πάντες (are all) τέκνα (children); ἀλλ’ (rather), “Ἐν (In) Ἰσαὰκ (Isaac) κληθήσεταί (will be named) σοι (to you) σπέρμα (offspring)”

³² διὰ (Because of) τί (why)? ὅτι (Because it was) οὐκ (not) ἐκ (by) πίστεως (faith), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works). προσέκοψαν (They stumbled) τῷ (over the) λίθῳ (stone) τοῦ (-) προσκόμματος (of stumbling),

²² Ἑβραῖοί (Hebrews) εἰσιν (are they)? κἀγώ (I also). Ἰσραηλῖταί (Israelites) εἰσιν (are they)? κἀγώ (I also). σπέρμα (Descendants) Ἀβραάμ (of Abraham) εἰσιν (are they)? κἀγώ (I also).

¹⁵ Ἡμεῖς (We), φύσει (by birth) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (of) ἐθνῶν (the Gentiles) ‘Ἁμαρτωλοί (sinners),’

¹¹ Διὸ (Therefore) μνημονεύετε (remember) ὅτι (that) ποτὲ (formerly) ὑμεῖς (you) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), οἱ (the ones) λεγόμενοι (being called) ἀκροβυστία (the uncircumcision) ὑπὸ (by) τῆς (that) λεγομένης (being called) περιτομῆς (the circumcision), ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (the flesh) χειροποιήτου (made by hands)—

³ ἡμεῖς (We) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (are) ἡ (the) περιτομή (circumcision), οἱ (those) Πνεύματι (in the Spirit) Θεοῦ (of God) λατρεύοντες (worshiping) καὶ (and) καυχώμενοι (glorying) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (the flesh) πεποιθότες (having put confidence), ⁴ καίπερ (though) ἐγὼ (I) ἔχων (have) πεποίθησιν (confidence) καὶ (even) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh). Εἴ (If) τις (any) δοκεῖ (thinks) ἄλλος (other) πεποιθέναι (to have confidence) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), ἐγὼ (I) μᾶλλον (more): ⁵ περιτομῇ (circumcision) ὀκταήμερος (on the eighth day); ἐκ (of) γένους (the nation) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), φυλῆς (of the tribe) Βενιαμίν (of Benjamin); Ἑβραῖος (a Hebrew) ἐξ (of) Ἑβραίων (Hebrews); κατὰ (according to) νόμον (the Law), Φαρισαῖος (a Pharisee); ⁶ κατὰ (according to) ζῆλος (zeal), διώκων (persecuting) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church); κατὰ (according to) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) τὴν (which is) ἐν (in) νόμῳ (the Law), γενόμενος (having become) ἄμεμπτος (faultless). ⁷ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἅτινα (whatever things) ἦν (were) μοι (to me) κέρδη (gain), ταῦτα (these) ἥγημαι (I have esteemed), διὰ (because of) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ), ζημίαν (loss).

⁹ Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὴν (-) θλῖψιν (tribulation) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πτωχείαν (poverty) — ἀλλὰ (but) πλούσιος (rich) εἶ (you are) — καὶ (and) τὴν (the) βλασφημίαν (slander) ἐκ (of) τῶν (those) λεγόντων (claiming) Ἰουδαίους (Jews) εἶναι (to be) ἑαυτούς (themselves), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰσίν (are), ἀλλὰ (but) συναγωγὴ (a synagogue) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan).

¹ Καὶ (And) τῷ (to the) ἀγγέλῳ (messenger) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) Σάρδεσιν (Sardis) ἐκκλησίας (church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the One) ἔχων (having) τὰ (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) Πνεύματα (Spirits) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀστέρας (stars). Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὰ (-) ἔργα (deeds), ὅτι (that) ὄνομα (the characterization) ἔχεις (you have) ὅτι (that) ζῇς (you are alive), καὶ (and yet) νεκρὸς (dead) εἶ (you are).

⁹ ἰδοὺ (Behold), διδῶ (I give) ἐκ (those from) τῆς (the) συναγωγῆς (synagogue) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan)— τῶν (those) λεγόντων (declaring) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) Ἰουδαίους (Jews) εἶναι (to be), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (are), ἀλλὰ (but) ψεύδονται (they lie)— ἰδοὺ (behold), ποιήσω (I will cause) αὐτοὺς (them) ἵνα (that) ἥξουσιν (they will come) καὶ (and) προσκυνήσουσιν (will worship) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ποδῶν (feet) σου (of you), καὶ (and) γνῶσιν (they shall know) ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) ἠγάπησά (have loved) σε (you).
