²⁵ And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, testing Him, saying, “Teacher, what having done, will I inherit eternal life?”

¹⁶ And behold, one having come to Him said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I might have eternal life?” ¹⁷ And He said to him, “Why do you ask Me about what is good? Only One is good. But if you desire to enter into life, keep the commandments.” ¹⁸ He says to Him, “Which?” And Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, ¹⁹ you shall honor the father and mother, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

³⁴ And the Pharisees, having heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, were gathered together the same. ³⁵ And one of them, a lawyer, questioned Him, testing Him, ³⁶ “Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law?” ³⁷ And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

³⁰ But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God as to themselves, not having been baptized by him.

⁴⁵ And one of the lawyers answering, says to Him, “Teacher, saying these things You insult us also.” ⁴⁶ And He said, “Woe to you lawyers also! For you burden men with burdens heavy to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

¹⁸ And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”

³⁰ And having brought them out, he was saying, “Sirs, what is necessary of me to do, that I may be saved?” ³¹ And they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”

¹⁸ For if the inheritance is by the Law, it is no longer by a promise. But God has granted it to Abraham through a promise.
