² And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how the they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees having gone out, held a counsel against Him, how they might destroy Him.

³⁸ But the farmers having seen the son, said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and gain possession of his inheritance.’

⁴⁵ And the chief priests and the Pharisees, having heard His parables, knew that He speaks about them. ⁴⁶ And seeking to lay hold of Him, they feared the crowds, because they were holding Him as a prophet.

³ Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest, who is called Caiaphas, ⁴ and they plotted together, in order that they might seize Jesus by guile and kill Him. ⁵ But they were saying, “Not during the feast, lest there be a riot among the people.”

⁴⁷ And He was teaching every day in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the foremost of the people were seeking to destroy Him. ⁴⁸ And they did not find what they might do; for all the people are listening, hanging on His words.

¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on Him in that hour, and they feared the people. For they perceived that He was speaking this parable against them.

⁴⁷ Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and were saying, “What are we to do? For this man does many signs. ⁴⁸ If we shall let Him alone like this, all will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and will take away both our place and nation.” ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest the same year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do you consider that it is profitable for you that one man should die for the people, and the whole nation should not perish.” ⁵¹ Now he did not say this from himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was about to die for the nation, ⁵² and not for the nation only, but also that children of God, those having been scattered, He might gather together into one. ⁵³ So from that day, they took counsel together that they might kill Him.

⁵⁷ Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command that if anyone should know where He is, he should show it, so that they might seize Him.

²⁷ For in truth, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together in this city against Your holy servant Jesus whom You anointed,
