They will be yours for food. ³⁰ And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. ³¹ And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

¹¹ For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day He rested. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

Who imparted knowledge to Him and showed Him the way of understanding?

²³ I looked at the earth, and it was formless and void; I looked to the heavens, and they had no light.

¹⁰ She is emptied! Yes, she is desolate and laid waste! Hearts melt, knees knock, bodies tremble, and every face grows pale!

³⁰ See how He scatters His lightning around Him and covers the depths of the sea.

¹⁹ Where is the way to the home of light? Do you know where darkness resides,

¹¹ Light shines on the righteous, gladness on the upright in heart.

² He wraps Himself in light as with a garment; He stretches out the heavens like a tent,

²⁷ The LORD is God; He has made His light to shine upon us. Bind the festal sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.

⁵ Let them praise the name of the LORD, for He gave the command and they were created.

⁵ And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

⁹ “I am a Hebrew,” replied Jonah. “I worship the LORD, the God of the heavens, who made the sea and the dry land.”

⁴ And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.

⁴ He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He.

¹⁴ He makes the grass grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, bringing forth food from the earth: ¹⁵ wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil that makes his face to shine, and bread that sustains his heart. ¹⁶ The trees of the LORD have their fill, the cedars of Lebanon that He planted, ¹⁷ where the birds build their nests; the stork makes her home in the cypresses.

⁸ who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow on the hills.

⁸ He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not worry in a year of drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.

¹⁰ The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

¹⁶ By their fruit you will recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? ¹⁷ Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. ¹⁹ Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ²⁰ So then, by their fruit you will recognize them.

²⁸ All by itself the earth produces a crop—first the stalk, then the head, then grain that ripens within.

⁴³ No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. ⁴⁴ For each tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed, figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor grapes from brambles.

⁷ For land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is tended receives the blessing of God.

¹² My brothers, can a fig tree grow olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

¹⁰ For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it bud and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, ¹¹ so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it.

¹¹ For as the earth brings forth its growth, and as a garden enables seed to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.

²⁴ Jesus put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. ²⁵ But while everyone was asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and slipped away. ²⁶ When the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the weeds also appeared.

⁷ Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.

¹³ I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

¹⁹ When you look to the heavens and see the sun and moon and stars—all the host of heaven—do not be enticed to bow down and worship what the LORD your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.

⁹ May its morning stars grow dark; may it wait in vain for daylight; may it not see the breaking of dawn.

³ Can His troops be numbered? On whom does His light not rise?

⁵ If even the moon does not shine, and the stars are not pure in His sight,

¹² In your days, have you commanded the morning or assigned the dawn its place, ¹³ that it might spread to the ends of the earth and shake the wicked out of it? ¹⁴ The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its hills stand out like the folds of a garment.

³¹ Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loosen the belt of Orion? ³² Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear and her cubs?

³ When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place— ⁴ what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?

¹ For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. ² Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. ³ Without speech or language, without a sound to be heard, ⁴ their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun. ⁵ Like a bridegroom emerging from his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course, ⁶ it rises at one end of the heavens and runs its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth.

¹⁶ The day is Yours, and also the night; You established the moon and the sun. ¹⁷ You set all the boundaries of the earth; You made the summer and winter.

³ Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.

¹⁹ He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows when to set. ²⁰ You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the beasts of the forest prowl.

⁹¹ Your ordinances stand to this day, for all things are servants to You.

⁷ He made the great lights—His loving devotion endures forever. ⁸ the sun to rule the day, His loving devotion endures forever. ⁹ the moon and stars to govern the night. His loving devotion endures forever.

³ Praise Him, O sun and moon; praise Him, all you shining stars.

⁶ He established them forever and ever; He issued a decree that will never pass away.

² This is what the LORD says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by the signs in the heavens, though the nations themselves are terrified by them.

³⁵ Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day, who sets in order the moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the LORD of Hosts is His name:

²⁵ This is what the LORD says: If I have not established My covenant with the day and the night and the fixed order of heaven and earth,

⁷ When I extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light. ⁸ All the shining lights in the heavens I will darken over you, and I will bring darkness upon your land,’ declares the Lord GOD.

¹ “This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘The gate of the inner court that faces east must be kept shut during the six days of work, but on the Sabbath day and on the day of the New Moon it shall be opened.

⁶ On the day of the New Moon he shall offer a young, unblemished bull, six lambs, and a ram without blemish.

¹⁰ Before them the earth quakes; the heavens tremble. The sun and moon grow dark, and the stars lose their brightness.

³⁰ I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. ³¹ The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and awesome Day of the LORD.

¹⁵ The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will no longer shine.

⁸ He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns darkness into dawn and darkens day into night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the face of the earth—the LORD is His name—

⁹ And in that day, declares the Lord GOD, I will make the sun go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the daytime.

² asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”

² But He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘The weather will be fair, for the sky is red,’ ³ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but not the signs of the times.

²⁹ Immediately after the tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’

²⁴ But in those days, after that tribulation: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;

²⁵ There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among the nations, bewildered by the roaring of the sea and the surging of the waves. ²⁶ Men will faint from fear and anxiety over what is coming upon the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

⁴⁵ The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn down the middle.

¹⁹ I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. ²⁰ The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and glorious Day of the Lord.

¹² And when I saw the Lamb open the sixth seal, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black like sackcloth of goat hair, and the whole moon turned blood red,

¹² Then the fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun and moon and stars were struck. A third of the stars were darkened, a third of the day was without light, and a third of the night as well.

² The star opened the pit of the Abyss, and smoke rose out of it like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the pit.

¹² On the day that the LORD gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the LORD in the presence of Israel: “O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” ¹³ So the sun stood still and the moon stopped until the nation took vengeance upon its enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? “So the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.” ¹⁴ There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man, because the LORD fought for Israel.

²⁶ if I have beheld the sun in its radiance or the moon moving in splendor,

⁷ while the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

⁶ it rises at one end of the heavens and runs its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth.

¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light. The rising sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light.

²³ The moon will be confounded and the sun will be ashamed; for the LORD of Hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before His elders with great glory.

¹¹ Sun and moon stood still in their places at the flash of Your flying arrows, at the brightness of Your shining spear.

⁴⁵ From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.

⁴¹ The sun has one degree of splendor, the moon another, and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

⁸ Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was given power to scorch the people with fire. ⁹ And the people were scorched by intense heat, and they cursed the name of God, who had authority over these plagues; yet they did not repent and give Him glory.

²³ And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp.

⁷ So God made the expanse and separated the waters beneath it from the waters above. And it was so.

²² Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

³⁰ And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

¹⁹ And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

¹⁷ Bring out all the living creatures that are with you—birds, livestock, and everything that crawls upon the ground—so that they can spread out over the earth and be fruitful and multiply upon it.”

³³ He spoke of trees, from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing in the wall, and he taught about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish.

²⁴ How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures. ²⁵ Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number, living things both great and small.

¹⁰ wild animals and all cattle, crawling creatures and flying birds,

²¹ When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and he must give his portion to a man who has not worked for it, this too is futile and a great evil.

²⁵ Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

²⁰ Two of every kind of bird and animal and crawling creature will come to you to be kept alive.

¹⁴ they and every kind of wild animal, livestock, crawling creature, bird, and winged creature.

¹⁹ Every living creature, every creeping thing, and every bird—everything that moves upon the earth—came out of the ark, kind by kind.

⁷ But as for you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out across the earth and multiply upon it.”

⁷ but the Israelites were fruitful and increased rapidly; they multiplied and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them.

³ The Nile will teem with frogs, and they will come into your palace and up to your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and your people, and into your ovens and kneading bowls.

¹² Am I the sea, or the monster of the deep, that You must keep me under guard?

⁵ The dead tremble—those beneath the waters and those who dwell in them.

²⁴ How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures. ²⁵ Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number, living things both great and small. ²⁶ There the ships pass, and Leviathan, which You formed to frolic there.

² “Son of man, take up a lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: ‘You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a monster in the seas. You thrash about in your rivers, churning up the waters with your feet and muddying the streams.’

¹⁷ Now the LORD had appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the fish.

¹⁰ And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

²⁸ God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.”

¹ And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.

²⁷ But Laban replied, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you.”

³⁰ Indeed, you had very little before my arrival, but now your wealth has increased many times over. The LORD has blessed you wherever I set foot. But now, when may I also provide for my own household?”

¹¹ And God told him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation—even a company of nations—shall come from you, and kings shall descend from you.

⁹ I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish My covenant with you.

¹⁵ Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.

¹² So the LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his first. He owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

³¹ Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men.

³⁸ He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their herds diminish.

³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine flourishing within your house, your sons like olive shoots sitting around your table.

¹³ Our storehouses will be full, supplying all manner of produce; our flocks will bring forth thousands, tens of thousands in our fields. ¹⁴ Our oxen will bear great loads. There will be no breach in the walls, no going into captivity, and no cry of lament in our streets.

²² The blessing of the LORD enriches, and He adds no sorrow to it.

³⁹ Can you hunt the prey for a lioness or satisfy the hunger of young lions ⁴⁰ when they crouch in their dens and lie in wait in the thicket?

¹ “Do you know when mountain goats give birth? Have you watched the doe bear her fawn?

⁵ Who set the wild donkey free? Who released the swift donkey from the harness?

⁹ Will the wild ox consent to serve you? Will he stay by your manger at night?

¹⁹ Do you give strength to the horse or adorn his neck with a mane?

⁹ I have no need for a bull from your stall or goats from your pens, ¹⁰ for every beast of the forest is Mine—the cattle on a thousand hills.

¹⁸ The high mountains are for the wild goats, the cliffs a refuge for the rock badgers.

²³ Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening.

¹⁹ And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. ²⁰ The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

⁸ Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; let the fish of the sea inform you. ⁹ Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? ¹⁰ The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.

⁵ By My great power and outstretched arm, I made the earth and the men and beasts on the face of it, and I give it to whom I please.

²² Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil. And now, lest he reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever...”

¹ This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in His own likeness.

² The fear and dread of you will fall on every living creature on the earth, every bird of the air, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are delivered into your hand. ³ Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things. ⁴ But you must not eat meat with its lifeblood still in it.

⁶ Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man his blood will be shed; for in His own image God has made mankind.

⁷ Come, let Us go down and confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”

²³ For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the wild animals will be at peace with you.

¹⁰ But no one asks, ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives us songs in the night,

⁴ what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him? ⁵ You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor. ⁶ You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet: ⁷ all sheep and oxen, and even the beasts of the field, ⁸ the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

³ Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

²⁰ You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the beasts of the forest prowl. ²¹ The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. ²² The sun rises, and they withdraw; they lie down in their dens. ²³ Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening. ²⁴ How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.

² Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.

²⁹ Only this have I found: I have discovered that God made men upright, but they have sought out many schemes.”

⁸ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!”

⁸ But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand.

⁶ So now I have placed all these lands under the authority of My servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. I have even made the beasts of the field subject to him.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “To this very day My Father is at His work, and I too am working.”

²³ Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

²⁰ For you are bringing some strange notions to our ears, and we want to know what they mean.”

²⁶ From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands.

²⁸ ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’ ²⁹ Therefore, being offspring of God, we should not think that the Divine Being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by man’s skill and imagination.

⁷ A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

¹⁸ And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

⁴ The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

²⁴ and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

¹⁵ The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

¹⁰ and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

⁶ But somewhere it is testified in these words: “What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him? ⁷ You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor ⁸ and placed everything under his feet.” When God subjected all things to him, He left nothing outside of his control. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. ⁹ But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man,

⁹ With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.

⁷ For there are three that testify:

¹⁸ The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.”

²¹ So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh. ²² And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him. ²³ And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.” ²⁴ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. ²⁵ And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.

¹ This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in His own likeness. ² Male and female He created them, and He blessed them. And in the day they were created, He called them “man.”

¹⁴ I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.

⁷ everyone called by My name and created for My glory, whom I have indeed formed and made.”

¹⁵ Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit? And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

⁴ Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’

⁶ However, from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’

⁷ A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. ⁸ For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. ⁹ Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

¹⁰ For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.

²⁶ the mystery that was hidden for ages and generations but is now revealed to His saints.

¹⁶ And I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will descend from her.”

²⁰ As for Ishmael, I have heard you, and I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He will become the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.

¹⁷ I will surely bless you, and I will multiply your descendants like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will possess the gates of their enemies. ¹⁸ And through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, “Our sister, may you become the mother of thousands upon thousands. May your offspring possess the gates of their enemies.”

³ Stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham. ⁴ I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed,

²⁴ and that night the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for the sake of My servant Abraham.”

⁵ When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he asked, “Who are these with you?” Jacob answered, “These are the children God has graciously given your servant.”

²⁵ by the God of your father who helps you, and by the Almighty who blesses you, with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the depths below, with blessings of the breasts and womb.

¹⁰ And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only You would bless me and enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.

⁵ Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth. For God had blessed Obed-edom.

³⁴ Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them.

¹ A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain; unless the LORD protects the city, its watchmen stand guard in vain. ² In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved. ³ Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward. ⁴ Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are children born in one’s youth. ⁵ Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. He will not be put to shame when he confronts the enemies at the gate.

³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine flourishing within your house, your sons like olive shoots sitting around your table. ⁴ In this way indeed shall blessing come to the man who fears the LORD.

³ They will prohibit marriage and require abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

³ Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things.

³¹ For by these He judges the nations and provides food in abundance.

¹ A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof, the world and all who dwell therein.

¹⁴ He makes the grass grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, bringing forth food from the earth: ¹⁵ wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil that makes his face to shine, and bread that sustains his heart.

²⁷ All creatures look to You to give them their food in due season. ²⁸ When You give it to them, they gather it up; when You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

⁵ He provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever.

¹⁶ The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth He has given to mankind.

²⁵ He gives food to every creature. His loving devotion endures forever.

¹⁵ The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their food in season. ¹⁶ You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

⁷ He executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free,

⁹ He provides food for the animals, and for the young ravens when they call.

¹⁶ he will dwell on the heights; the mountain fortress will be his refuge; his food will be provided and his water assured.

⁸ For she does not acknowledge that it was I who gave her grain, new wine, and oil, who lavished on her silver and gold—which they crafted for Baal.

¹¹ Give us this day our daily bread.

²⁵ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ²⁶ Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

¹⁷ Yet He has not left Himself without testimony to His goodness: He gives you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.”

²⁴ The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands. ²⁵ Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

²⁸ ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’

¹⁷ Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be conceited and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who richly provides all things for us to enjoy.

³⁹ Can you hunt the prey for a lioness or satisfy the hunger of young lions ⁴⁰ when they crouch in their dens and lie in wait in the thicket? ⁴¹ Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God as they wander about for lack of food?

⁴ Their young ones thrive and grow up in the open field; they leave and do not return.

⁸ He roams the mountains for pasture, searching for any green thing.

³⁰ His young ones feast on blood; and where the slain are, there he is.”

²⁰ The hills yield him their produce, while all the beasts of the field play nearby.

¹⁴ He makes the grass grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, bringing forth food from the earth:

² And by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work.
