⁷ Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls; all Your breakers and waves have rolled over me.

¹ For the choirmaster. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters are up to my neck. ² I have sunk into the miry depths, where there is no footing; I have drifted into deep waters, where the flood engulfs me.

¹⁴ Rescue me from the mire and do not let me sink; deliver me from my foes and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Do not let the floods engulf me or the depths swallow me up; let not the Pit close its mouth over me.

⁵ I am forsaken among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom You remember no more, who are cut off from Your care. ⁶ You have laid me in the lowest Pit, in the darkest of the depths. ⁷ Your wrath weighs heavily upon me; all Your waves have submerged me. Selah ⁸ You have removed my friends from me; You have made me repulsive to them; I am confined and cannot escape.

⁵⁴ The waters flowed over my head, and I thought I was going to die.

¹² “Pick me up,” he answered, “and cast me into the sea, so it may quiet down for you. For I know that I am to blame for this violent storm that has come upon you.” ¹³ Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they could not, for the sea was raging against them more and more. ¹⁴ So they cried out to the LORD: “Please, O LORD, do not let us perish on account of this man’s life! Do not charge us with innocent blood! For You, O LORD, have done as You pleased.” ¹⁵ At this, they picked up Jonah and cast him into the sea, and the raging sea grew calm. ¹⁶ Then the men feared the LORD greatly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to Him.
