²⁶ As the soldiers led Him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.

³² Along the way they found a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross of Jesus. ³³ And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull, ³⁴ they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, He refused to drink it. ³⁵ When they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments by casting lots. ³⁶ And sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. ³⁷ Above His head they posted the written charge against Him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁸ Two robbers were crucified with Him, one on His right hand and the other on His left. ³⁹ And those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!” ⁴¹ In the same way, the chief priests, scribes, and elders mocked Him, saying, ⁴² “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him. ⁴³ He trusts in God. Let God deliver Him now if He wants Him. For He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” ⁴⁴ In the same way, even the robbers who were crucified with Him berated Him.

²¹ Now Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus. ²² They brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull. ²³ There they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, but He did not take it. ²⁴ And they crucified Him. They also divided His garments by casting lots to decide what each of them would take. ²⁵ It was the third hour when they crucified Him. ²⁶ And the charge inscribed against Him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS. ²⁷ Along with Jesus, they crucified two robbers, one on His right and one on His left. ^{28 29} And those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, ³⁰ come down from the cross and save Yourself!” ³¹ In the same way, the chief priests and scribes mocked Him among themselves, saying, “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself! ³² Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” And even those who were crucified with Him berated Him.

²³ Then Jesus said to all of them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

²⁷ And whoever does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.

¹⁶ Then Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified, and the soldiers took Him away. ¹⁷ Carrying His own cross, He went out to The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.
