¹¹ Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you,

²¹ May integrity and uprightness preserve me, because I wait for You.

⁹ How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Your word. ¹⁰ With all my heart I have sought You; do not let me stray from Your commandments. ¹¹ I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.

⁶ Do not forsake wisdom, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will guard you.

²² When you walk, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. ²³ For this commandment is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way to life, ²⁴ to keep you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.

¹⁵ Now a poor wise man was found in the city, and he saved the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man. ¹⁶ And I said, “Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.” ¹⁷ The calm words of the wise are heeded over the shouts of a ruler among fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

¹⁰ If the axe is dull and the blade unsharpened, more strength must be exerted, but skill produces success.

¹⁵ Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
