¹ There was a man of Ramathaim Zophim, of Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, a son of Jeroham, the son of Elias, the son of Tohu, in Nasib Ephraim. ² And he had two wives; the name of the one was Anna, and the name of the second was Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Anna had no child. ³ And the man went up from year to year from his city, from Ramathaim, to worship and sacrifice to the Lord God of Sabaoth at Shiloh. And there were Eli and his two sons, Hophni and Phineas, the priests of the Lord. ⁴ And the day came, and Elkanah sacrificed, and gave portions to his wife Peninnah and her children. ⁵ And to Anna he gave a prime portion, because she had no child, only Elkanah loved Anna more than the other; but the Lord had closed her womb. ⁶ For the Lord gave her no child in her affliction, and according to the despondency of her affliction; and she was dispirited on this account, that the Lord had shut up her womb so as not to give her a child. ⁷ So she did year by year, in going up to the house of the Lord; and she was dispirited, and wept, and did not eat. ⁸ And Elkanah her husband said to her, Anna; and she said to him, Here am I, my lord. And he said to her, What ails you that you weep? And why do you not eat? And why does your heart smite you? Am I not better to you than ten children? ⁹ And Anna rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and stood before the Lord. And Eli the priest was on a seat by the threshold of the temple of the Lord. ¹⁰ And she was very much grieved in her spirit, and prayed to the Lord, and wept abundantly. ¹¹ And she vowed a vow to the Lord, saying, O Lord God of Sabaoth, if You will indeed look upon the humiliation of Your maidservant and remember me, and give to your maidservant a male child, then will I indeed dedicate him to You till the day of his death; and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and no razor shall come upon his head. ¹² And it came to pass, while she was praying a long time before the Lord, that Eli the priest watched her mouth. ¹³ And she was speaking in her heart, and her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. And Eli accounted her a drunken woman. ¹⁴ And the servant of Eli said to her, How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you, and go out from the presence of the Lord. ¹⁵ And Anna answered and said, No my lord, I live in a hard day, and I have not drunk wine or strong drink, and I pour out my soul before the Lord. ¹⁶ Count not your maidservant for a wicked woman, for by reason of the abundance of my complaint I have continued my prayer until now. ¹⁷ And Eli answered and said to her, Go in peace, and may the God of Israel give you all your petition, which you have asked of Him. ¹⁸ And she said, Your maidservant has found favor in your eyes. And the woman went her way, and entered into her lodging, and ate and drank with her husband, and her countenance was sad no longer. ¹⁹ And they rose early in the morning, and worshipped the Lord, and they went their way. And Elkanah went into his house at Ramathaim, and knew his wife Anna; and the Lord remembered her, and she conceived. ²⁰ And it came to pass when the time had come, that she brought forth a son, and called his name Samuel, and said, Because I asked him of the Lord God of Sabaoth. ²¹ And the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer in Shiloh the yearly sacrifice, and his vows, and all the tithes of his land. ²² But Anna did not go up with him, for she said to her husband, I will not go up until the child goes up, when I have weaned him, and he shall be presented before the Lord, and he shall abide there continually. ²³ And Elkanah her husband said to her, Do that which is good in your eyes, abide still until you have weaned him; and may the Lord establish that which comes out of your mouth. And the woman waited, and suckled her son until she had weaned him. ²⁴ And she went up with him to Shiloh with a calf of three years old, and loaves, and an ephah of fine flour, and a bottle of wine. And she entered into the house of the Lord in Shiloh, and the child with them. ²⁵ And they brought him before the Lord; and his father slaughtered his offering which he offered from year to year to the Lord; and he brought the child near, and slaughtered the calf; and Anna the mother of the child brought him to Eli. ²⁶ And she said, I pray, my lord, as your soul lives, I am the woman that stood in your presence with you while praying to the Lord. ²⁷ For I have prayed for this child; and the Lord has given me my request that I asked of Him. ²⁸ And I lend him to the Lord all his days that he lives, a loan to the Lord: and she said,

¹⁷ And Joshua said to the sons of Joseph, If you are a great people, and have great strength, you shall not have only one inheritance. ¹⁸ For you shall have the wood, for there is a wood, and you shall clear it, and the land shall be yours; even when you shall have utterly destroyed the Canaanite, for he has chosen cavalry; yet you are stronger than he.

³³ And it came to pass afterwards that Eleazar the high priest the son of Aaron died, and was buried in Gibeah of Phinehas his son, which he gave him in Mount Ephraim. In that day the children of Israel took the ark of God, and carried it about among them. And Phinehas exercised the priest's office in the place of Eleazar his father till he died, and he was buried in his own place Gibeah. But the children of Israel departed everyone to their place, and to their own city: and the children of Israel worshipped Astarte, and Astaroth, and the gods of the nations round about them; and the Lord delivered them into the hands of Eglom king of Moab, and he ruled over them eighteen years.

⁵ And Gilead took the fords of the Jordan before Ephraim; and they that escaped of Ephraim said to them, Let us go over. And the men of Gilead said, Are you an Ephraimite? And he said, No.

¹ And there was a man of Mount Ephraim, and his name was Micah.

¹ And there was a Levite sojourning in the sides of Mount Ephraim, and he took to himself a concubine from Bethlehem Judah.

² And the man's name was Elimelech, and his wife's name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion — Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they came to the land of Moab, and remained there.

¹⁹ And they rose early in the morning, and worshipped the Lord, and they went their way. And Elkanah went into his house at Ramathaim, and knew his wife Anna; and the Lord remembered her, and she conceived.

⁵ And when they came to Zuph, Saul said to his young man that was with him, Come and let us return, lest my father leave the donkeys, and take care for us.

²⁶ And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the Ephrathite of Zereda, the son of a widow, was servant of Solomon.

Did I not serve you for Rachel? And why have you deceived me? ²⁶ And Laban answered, It is not done thus in our country, to give the younger before the elder. ²⁷ Fulfill then her week, and I will give her to you also in return for your service, which you serve with me, yet seven other years. ²⁸ And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week; and Laban gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also. ²⁹ And Laban gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter as a maid to her.

³¹ And when the Lord God saw that Leah was hated, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.

¹⁵ And if a man has two wives, the one loved and the other hated, and both the loved and the hated should have born him children, and the son of the hated should be firstborn; ¹⁶ then it shall be that whenever he shall divide by inheritance his goods to his sons, he shall not be able to give the right of the firstborn to the son of the loved one, having overlooked the son of the hated, which is the firstborn. ¹⁷ But he shall acknowledge the firstborn of the hated one, to give to him double of all things which shall be found by him, because he is the first of his children, and to him belongs the birthright.

³⁰ And Gideon had seventy sons begotten of his body, for he had many wives.

² And there was a man of Zorah, of the family of the kindred of Dan, and his name was Manoah, and his wife was barren, and bore no children.

⁸ He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been thus.

⁷ But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.

³⁶ Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;

¹⁴ Three times you shall keep a feast to Me in the year.

¹⁷ Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the Lord your God.

²³ Three times in the year shall every male of yours appear before the Lord, the God of Israel.

⁵ But in the place which the Lord your God shall choose in one of your cities to name His name there, and to be called upon, you shall even seek Him out and go there. ⁶ And you shall carry there your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your firstfruits, and your vowed offerings, and your freewill offerings, and your offerings of thanksgiving, the firstborn of your herds, and of your flocks. ⁷ And you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice in all the things on which you shall lay your hand, you and your houses, as the Lord your God has blessed you.

¹¹ And there shall be a place which the Lord your God shall choose for His name to be called there, from which shall you bring all things that I order you this day; your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the firstfruits of your hands, and every choice gift of yours, whatsoever you shall vow to the Lord your God. ¹² And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons, and your daughters, and your male servants and your female servants, and the Levite that is at your gates; because he has no portion or inheritance with you. ¹³ Take heed to yourself that you offer not your whole burnt offerings in any place which you shall see; ¹⁴ except in the place which the Lord your God shall choose, in one of your tribes, there shall you offer your whole burnt offerings, and there shall you do all things whatsoever I charge you this day.

¹⁶ Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the Lord your God in the place which the Lord shall choose in the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks, and in the Feast of Tabernacles: you shall not appear before the Lord your God empty.

¹ And all the congregation of the children of Israel were assembled at Shiloh, and there they pitched the tabernacle of witness. And the land was subdued by them.

³¹ And they set up for themselves the graven image which Micah made, all the days that the house of God was in Shiloh; and it was so in those days that there was no king in Israel.

⁹ And Anna rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and stood before the Lord. And Eli the priest was on a seat by the threshold of the temple of the Lord.

²¹ And the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer in Shiloh the yearly sacrifice, and his vows, and all the tithes of his land.

¹² And the sons of Eli the priest were evil sons, not knowing the Lord. ¹³ And the priest's claim from everyone of the people that sacrificed was this: the servant of the priest came when the flesh was in seething, and a flesh-hook of three teeth was in his hand. ¹⁴ And he struck it into the great caldron, or into the bronze vessel, or into the pot, and whatever came up with the flesh-hook, the priest took for himself. So they did to all Israel that came to sacrifice to the Lord in Shiloh. ¹⁵ And before the fat was burnt for a sweet savor, the servant of the priest would come, and say to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest, and I will by no means take from you boiled flesh out of the caldron. ¹⁶ And if the man that sacrificed said, First let the fat be burned, as it is fit, and take for yourself of all things which your soul desires. Then he would say, No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not I will take it by force. ¹⁷ So the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for they despised the offering of the Lord.

³⁴ And this which shall come upon your two sons Hophni and Phineas shall be a sign to you: in one day they shall both die.

¹³ And I have told him that I will be avenged on his house perpetually for the iniquities of his sons, because his sons spoke evil against God, and he did not admonish them.

⁴ And the people sent to Shiloh, and they took from there the ark of the Lord who dwells between the cherubim. And both the sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, were with the ark.

¹¹ And the ark of God was taken, and both the sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, died.

¹⁷ And they young man answered and said, The men of Israel fled from the face of the Philistines, and there was a great slaughter among the people, and both your sons are dead, and the ark of God has been taken. ¹⁸ And it came to pass, when he mentioned the ark of God, that he fell from the seat backward near the gate, and his back was broken, and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. And he judged Israel twenty years.

⁶⁰ And He rejected the tabernacle of Shiloh, His tent where He dwelt among men.

¹² For go to My place which is in Shiloh, where I caused My name to dwell before, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel. ¹³ And now, because you have done all these deeds, and I spoke to you, but you hearkened not to Me; and I called you, but you answered not. ¹⁴ Therefore I also will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

⁴¹ And His parents traveled to Jerusalem every year to the Feast of the Passover.

⁴ And the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them; he shall take away that which is on the thighs, and the fatty lobe above the liver together with the kidneys.

¹⁵ And the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace-offering of praise shall be his, and it shall be eaten in the day in which it is offered; they shall not leave of it till the morning.

¹⁷ You shall not be able to eat in your cities the tithe of your grain, and of your wine, and of your oil, the firstborn of your herd and of your flock, and all your vows, as many as you have vowed, and your thank offerings, and the firstfruits of your hands. ¹⁸ But before the Lord your God you shall eat it, in the place which the Lord your God shall choose for Himself; you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, and the stranger that is within your gates; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, on whatsoever you shall lay your hand.

¹¹ And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your son, and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow which dwells among you, in whatsoever place the Lord your God shall choose, that His name should be called there.

¹ Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children; and she had an Egyptian maid, whose name was Hagar.

¹⁸ Because the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

² And Jacob was angry with Rachel, and said to her, Am I in the place of God, who has deprived you of the fruit of the womb?

³⁴ And they took their portions from him to themselves; but Benjamin's portion was five times as much as the portions of the others. And they drank and were merry with him.

²² And he gave to them all two sets of clothing apiece; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of gold, and five changes of clothing.

¹⁵ And if a man has two wives, the one loved and the other hated, and both the loved and the hated should have born him children, and the son of the hated should be firstborn;

¹⁸ You shall not take a wife in addition to her sister, as a rival, to uncover her nakedness in opposition to her, while she is yet living.

¹⁴ Mercy has rejected me; and the visitation of the Lord has disregarded me.

²¹ For he has not treated the barren woman well, and has had no pity on the feeble woman.

¹⁹ And his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, in her going up in company with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

¹⁵ And he shall be to you a restorer of your soul, and one to cherish in your old age; for your daughter-in-law who has loved you, who is better to you than seven sons, has born him.

¹⁶ And David inquired of God concerning the child, and David fasted, and went in and lay all night upon the ground. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose and went to him to raise him up from the ground, but he would not rise, nor did he eat bread with them.

¹² And Hazael said, Why does my lord weep? And he said, Because I know all the evil that you will do to the children of Israel: you will utterly destroy their strongholds with fire, and you will slay their choice men with the sword, and you will dash their infants against the ground, and their women with child you will rip up.

⁴ And I will go in to the altar of God, to God who gladdens my youth; I will give thanks to You on the harp, O God, my God.

¹ Rejoice, you barren that bear not; break forth and cry, you that does not travail; for more are the children of the desolate than of her that has a husband; for the Lord has said,

⁶ The Lord has not called you as a deserted and faint-hearted woman, nor as a woman hated from her youth, says your God.

¹³ Then they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they put Him."

¹⁵ Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?" She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, "Sir, if You carried Him away, tell me where You put Him, and I will take Him away."

¹⁴ Now we exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the discouraged, be supportive of the weak, be patient toward all.

³ And the lamp of God was burning before it was trimmed, and Samuel slept in the temple, where the ark of God was.

¹⁵ And Samuel slept till morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord; and Samuel feared to tell Eli the vision.

² that the king said to Nathan the prophet, Behold now, I live in a house of cedar, and the ark of the Lord dwells in the midst of a tent.

⁷ But I will enter into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; I will worship in Your fear toward Your holy temple.

⁴ One thing have I asked of the Lord, this will I earnestly seek; that I should dwell in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life, that I should behold the fair beauty of the Lord, and survey His temple.

⁹ The voice of the Lord strengthens the deer, and will uncover the thickets; and in His temple everyone speaks of His glory.

¹⁰ And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan; and they bewailed him with a great and very sore lamentation; and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

² And the people came to Bethel, and sat there until evening before God. And they lifted up their voice and wept with a great weeping;

²⁰ And she said to them, No, do not call me Naomi; call me 'Bitter,' for the Mighty One has dealt very bitterly with me.

³⁶ And it came to pass when he had finished speaking, that behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voices and wept; and the king also and all his servants wept with a very great weeping.

⁸ And Hushai said, You know your father and his men, that they are very mighty, and bitter in their spirit, as a bereaved bear in the field, and as a wild boar in the plain; and your father is a man of war, and will not give the people rest.

³ O Lord, remember, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in Your eyes. And Hezekiah wept with a great weeping.

¹¹ Then neither will I refrain my mouth; I will speak being in distress; being in anguish I will disclose the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ For He allows me not to take breath, but He has filled me with bitterness.

¹ Weary in my soul, I will pour my words with groans upon Him: I will speak being straitened in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁵ And call upon Me in the day of affliction; and I shall deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Pause.

¹⁵ He shall call upon Me, and I will hearken to him; I am with him in affliction; and I will deliver him, and glorify him.

¹⁵ and removed the sorrow of my soul.

¹⁷ But if you will not hear it, your soul shall weep in secret because of pride, and your eyes shall pour down tears, because the Lord's flock is sorely bruised.

¹⁰ Weep not for the dead, nor lament for him: weep bitterly for him that goes away; for he shall return no more, nor see his native land.

¹⁵ ( { ε}) VAU. He has filled me with bitterness, He has drenched me with gall.

⁴⁴ And being in agony, He prayed more fervently. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down onto the ground.

⁷ who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up both prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears to the One who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His fear of God,

¹ And God remembered Noah, and all the wild beasts, and all the cattle, and all the birds, and all the reptiles that creep, as many as were with him in the ark, and God brought a wind upon the earth, and the water subsided.

²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If the Lord God will be with me, and guard me throughout on this journey, on which I am going, and give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son to Jacob; and she called his name Reuben, saying, Because the Lord has looked on my humiliation, and has given me a son, now then my husband will love me.

²² And God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and He opened her womb.

³¹ And the people believed and rejoiced, because God visited the children of Israel, and because He saw their affliction. And the people bowed down and worshipped.

⁵ all the days of his separation — a razor shall not come upon his head, until the days be fulfilled which he vowed to the Lord. He shall be holy, cherishing the long hair of his head,

⁸ All the days of his vow he shall be holy unto the Lord.

¹¹ And the priest shall offer one for a sin offering, and the other for a whole burnt offering; and the priest shall make atonement for him in the things in which he sinned respecting the dead body, and he shall sanctify his head in that day,

² And Israel vowed a vow to the Lord, and said, If you will deliver this people into my power, I will devote it and its cities to You.

³ And if a woman shall vow a vow to the Lord, or bind herself with an obligation in her youth in her father's house; and her father should hear her vows and her obligations, wherewith she has bound her soul, and her father should hold his peace at her, then all her vows shall stand, ⁴ and all the obligations with which she has bound her soul, shall remain to her. ⁵ But if her father straitly forbid her in the day in which he shall hear all her vows and her obligations, which she has contracted upon her soul, they shall not stand; and the Lord shall hold her guiltless, because her father forbade her. ⁶ But if she should be indeed married, and her vows be upon her according to the utterance of her lips, in respect of the obligations which she has contracted upon her soul; ⁷ and her husband should hear, and hold his peace at her in the day in which he should hear, then thus shall all her vows be binding, and her obligations, which she has contracted upon her soul shall stand. ⁸ But if her husband should straitly forbid her in the day in which he should hear her, none of her vows or obligations which she has contracted upon her soul shall stand, because her husband has disallowed her, and the Lord shall hold her guiltless.

³⁰ And Jephthah vowed a vow to the Lord, and said, If You will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,

⁵ for behold, you are with child, and shall bring forth a son; and there shall come no razor upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines.

¹² If by any means the Lord may look upon my affliction, thus shall He return me good for his cursing this day.

¹⁸ Look upon my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.

¹ A Song of Degrees. Lord, remember David, and all his meekness: ² how he swore to the Lord, and vowed to the God of Jacob, saying,

⁴ Whenever you shall vow a vow to God, defer not to pay it; for He has no pleasure in fools. Pay, therefore, whatsoever you have vowed.

⁸ I say to you, even if he will not get up and give to him, because he is his friend, yet on account of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs. ⁹ "So I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

¹ Then He spoke a parable to them, that one must always pray and not lose heart,

¹⁸ through every prayer and petition, praying in every season in the Spirit, being watchful to this same thing with all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints--

² Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing!

¹⁶ Confess your transgressions to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of the righteous is very powerful.

⁴² And having come this day to the well, I said, Lord God of my master Abraham, if You prosper my journey on which I am now going, ⁴³ behold, I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city come forth to draw water, and it shall be that the woman to whom I shall say, Give me a little water to drink out of your pitcher, ⁴⁴ and she shall say to me, Drink, and I will draw water for your camels, also; this shall be the wife whom the Lord has prepared for His own servant Isaac; and hereby shall I know that You have shown mercy to my master Abraham. ⁴⁵ And it came to pass before I had done speaking in my mind, that Rebecca came forth, having her pitcher on her shoulders; and she went down to the well, and drew water; and I said to her, Give me a drink.

⁴ And the king said to me, For what do you ask thus? So I prayed to the God of heaven.

¹ A Psalm of David. To You, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul.

¹⁵ The Lord Almighty shall protect them, and they shall destroy them, and overwhelm them with slingstones; and they shall swallow them down as wine, and fill the bowls as the altar.

¹³ Others were mocking and saying, "They are full of new wine."

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.

⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

¹² And all the children of Israel gathered together to Shiloh, so as to go up and fight against them. ¹³ And the children of Israel sent to the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and to the sons of the half-tribe of Manasseh into the land of Gilead, both Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, ¹⁴ and ten of the chiefs with him; there was one chief of every household out of all the tribes of Israel (the heads of families are the captains of thousands in Israel). ¹⁵ And they came to the sons of Reuben, and to the sons of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh into the land of Gilead; and they spoke to them, saying, ¹⁶ Thus says the whole congregation of the Lord: What is this transgression that you have transgressed before the God of Israel, to turn away today from the Lord, in that you have built for yourselves an altar, so that you should be apostates from the Lord? ¹⁷ Is the sin of Peor too little for you, whereas we have not been cleansed from it until this day, though there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord? ¹⁸ And you have revolted this day from the Lord; and it shall come to pass if you revolt this day from the Lord, that tomorrow there shall be wrath upon all Israel. ¹⁹ And now if the land of your possession is too little, cross over to the land of the possession of the Lord, where the tabernacle of the Lord dwells, and receive an inheritance among us; and do not become apostates from God, neither do you apostatize from the Lord, because of your having built an altar apart from the altar of the Lord our God. ²⁰ Lo! Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass, taking of the accursed thing, and there was wrath on the whole congregation of Israel? And he himself died alone in his own sin.

² How long will you speak these things, how long shall the breath of your mouth be abundant in words?

¹⁴ if there is any iniquity in your hands, put if far from you, and let not unrighteousness lodge in your habitation.

²³ And if you shall turn and humble yourself before the Lord, you have thus removed unrighteousness far from your habitation.

³ How long will you assault a man? You are all slaughtering as with a bowed wall and a broken hedge.

²⁴ Remove from yourself a deceitful mouth, and put unjust lips far away from yourself.

⁹ How long will you lie, O sluggard? And when will you awake out of sleep?

¹ "Judge not, lest you be judged. ² For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with what measure you measure, it will be measured back to you. ³ And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not notice the plank in your own eye?

²⁵ Therefore, having put off falsehood, "Let each one speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.

³¹ Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and blasphemy be removed from you, with all malice.

¹⁶ Even now my life shall be poured forth upon me, and days of anguish seize me.

⁴ I remembered these things, and poured out my soul in me, for I will go to the place of Your wondrous tabernacle, even to the house of God, with a voice of exaltation and thanksgiving and of the sound of those who keep festival.

⁸ Hope in Him, all you congregation of the people; pour out your hearts before Him, for God is our helper. Pause.

² I will pour out my supplication before Him. I will declare before Him my affliction. ³ When my spirit was fainting within me, then You knew my paths; in the very way in which I was walking, they hid a snare for me.

⁶ I spread forth my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You, as a dry land. Pause.

¹ Anger slays even wise men, yet a submissive answer turns away wrath; but a grievous word stirs up anger.

¹⁵ In long suffering is prosperity to kings, and a soft tongue breaks the bones.

¹⁹ ( { χ}) KOPH. Arise, rejoice in the night at the beginning of your watch: pour out your heart as water before the face of the Lord, lift up your hands to Him for the life of your infants, who faint from hunger at the top of all the streets.

¹³ Evil men have gone out from you, and have caused all the inhabitants of their land to fall away, saying, Let us go and worship other gods, whom you knew not,

¹² And the sons of Eli the priest were evil sons, not knowing the Lord.

²⁷ But evil men said, Who is this man that shall save us? And they despised him, and brought him no gifts.

²⁵ Let not my lord take to heart this pestilent man, for according to his name, so is he — Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! But I, your maidservant, did not see the servants of my lord whom you sent.

² Oh that one would indeed weigh the wrath that is upon me, and take up my grief in a balance together! ³ And surely they would be heavier than the sand by the seashore: but, as it seems, my words are vain.

¹ Weary in my soul, I will pour my words with groans upon Him: I will speak being straitened in the bitterness of my soul. ² And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and wherefore have You thus judged me?

³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

⁶ And the priest said to them, Go in peace; your way in which you go is before the Lord.

³⁵ And David took of her hand all that she brought to him, and said to her, Go in peace to your house: see, I have heeded your voice, and accepted your petition.

⁷ Now then return and go in peace, thus you shall not do evil in the sight of the lords of the Philistines.

¹⁹ And Elisha said to Naaman, Go in peace. And he departed from him a little way.

¹⁰ And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, O that You would indeed bless me, and enlarge my coasts, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would make me know that You will not grieve me! And God granted him all that he asked.

³ May He remember all your sacrifices, and accept your whole burnt offerings. Pause. ⁴ May He grant you according to your heart, and fulfill all your desires. ⁵ We will rejoice in Your salvation, and in the name of our God shall we be magnified: May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

³⁴ And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction."

⁵⁰ Then He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

⁴⁸ And He said to her, "Take courage, daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."

⁵ And there were born to me oxen, donkeys, sheep, male and female servants; and I sent to tell my lord Esau, that your servant might find grace in your sight.

⁸ And he said, What are these things to you, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That your servant might find grace in your sight, my lord.

¹⁵ And Esau said, I will leave with you some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why so? It is enough that I have found favor before you, my lord.

¹³ And she said, Let me find grace in your sight, my lord, because you have comforted me, and because you have spoken kindly to your maidservant, and behold, I shall be as one of your servants.

⁷ Go, eat your bread with mirth, and drink your wine with a joyful heart; for now God has favorably accepted your works.

²⁴ Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition, along with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; ⁷ and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

¹ And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and brought forth Cain and said, I have gained a man through God.

¹ And the Lord visited Sarah, as He said, and the Lord did to Sarah, as He spoke.

¹ There was a man of Ramathaim Zophim, of Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, a son of Jeroham, the son of Elias, the son of Tohu, in Nasib Ephraim.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow to the Lord, saying, O Lord God of Sabaoth, if You will indeed look upon the humiliation of Your maidservant and remember me, and give to your maidservant a male child, then will I indeed dedicate him to You till the day of his death; and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and no razor shall come upon his head.

¹¹ and departed to Ramathaim. And the child ministered in the presence of the Lord before Eli the priest.

²⁶ An it came to pass when the morning dawned, that Samuel called Saul on the roof, saying, Rise up, and I will dismiss you. And Saul arose, and he and Samuel went out.

³ In the morning You shall hear my voice: in the morning will I wait upon You, and will look up.

⁷ Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my sins of ignorance; remember me according to Your mercy, for Your goodness' sake, O Lord.

¹⁷ Evening and morning and at noon I will declare and make known my needs; and He shall hear my voice.

¹⁴⁷ I arose before the dawn, and cried; I hoped in Your words.

²³ For the Lord remembered us in our low estate; for His mercy endures forever;

³⁵ And in the very early morning before dawn, He arose and He went out, and went away to a deserted place; and there He was praying.

⁴² Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come in Your kingdom."

²⁵ And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and called his name Seth, saying, For God has raised up to me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.

²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, This one will cause us to cease from our works, and from the toils of our hands, and from the earth, which the Lord God has cursed.

¹¹ And the Angel of the Lord said to her, Behold you are with child, and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Ishmael, for the Lord has hearkened to your humiliation.

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son to Jacob; and she called his name Reuben, saying, Because the Lord has looked on my humiliation, and has given me a son, now then my husband will love me. ³³ And she conceived again, and bore a second son to Jacob; and she said, Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, He has given to me this one also; and she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived yet again, and bore a son, and said, In the present time my husband will be with me, for I have born him three sons; therefore she called his name Levi. ³⁵ And having conceived yet again, she bore a son, and said, Now yet again this time will I give thanks to the Lord; therefore she called his name, Judah; and ceased bearing.

⁶ And Rachel said, God has given judgment for me, and heard my voice, and has given me a son; therefore she called his name Dan. ⁷ And Bilhah, Rachel's maid, conceived yet again, and bore a second son to Jacob. ⁸ And Rachel said, God has helped me, and I contended with my sister and prevailed; and she called his name Naphtali. ⁹ And Leah saw that she ceased from bearing, and she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her to Jacob for a wife; and he went in to her. ¹⁰ And Zilpah Leah's maid conceived, and bore Jacob a son. ¹¹ And Leah said, It is happily: and she called his name Gad. ¹² And Zilpah Leah's maid conceived yet again, and bore Jacob a second son. ¹³ And Leah said, I am blessed, for the women will pronounce me blessed; and she called his name Asher. ¹⁴ And Reuben went in the day of barley harvest, and found apples of mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah; and Rachel said to Leah her sister, Give me some of your son's mandrakes. ¹⁵ And Leah said, Is it not enough for you that you have taken my husband, will you also take my son's mandrakes? And Rachel said, Not so: let him lie with you tonight for your son's mandrakes. ¹⁶ And Jacob came in out of the field in the evening; and Leah went forth to meet him, and said, You shall come in to me this day, for I have hired you for my son's mandrakes; and he lay with her that night. ¹⁷ And God listened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son. ¹⁸ And Leah said, God has given me my reward, because I gave my maid to my husband; and she called his name Issachar, which is, Reward. ¹⁹ And Leah conceived again, and bore Jacob a sixth son. ²⁰ And Leah said, God has given me a good gift in this time; my husband will choose me, for I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun. ²¹ And after this she bore a daughter; and she called her name Dinah.

⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn, Manasseh; for God, he said, has made me forget all my toils, and all my father's house. ⁵² And he called the name of the second, Ephraim; for God, he said, has increased me in the land of my humiliation.

¹⁰ And when the boy was grown, she brought him to the daughter of Pharaoh, and he became her son; and she called his name Moses, saying, I took him out of the water.

²² And the woman conceived and bore a son, and Moses called his name Gershom, saying, I am a sojourner in a strange land.

²¹ And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins."

¹⁹ For I know that he will order his sons, and his house after him, and they will keep the ways of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraham all things whatsoever He has spoken to him.

¹¹ And there shall be a place which the Lord your God shall choose for His name to be called there, from which shall you bring all things that I order you this day; your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the firstfruits of your hands, and every choice gift of yours, whatsoever you shall vow to the Lord your God.

¹⁵ But if it seem not good to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods of your fathers that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, among whom you dwell upon their land. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, for He is holy.

³ And the man went up from year to year from his city, from Ramathaim, to worship and sacrifice to the Lord God of Sabaoth at Shiloh. And there were Eli and his two sons, Hophni and Phineas, the priests of the Lord.

² and I will be wise in a blameless way. When will You come to me? I walked in the innocence of my heart, in the midst of my house.

⁶ his master shall bring him to the judgment seat of God, and then shall he bring him to the door, to the doorpost, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him forever.

²³ And the land shall not be sold for a permanence; for the land is Mine, because you are strangers and sojourners before Me.

⁷ then you may explain to your son, saying, The River Jordan was dried up from before the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth, when it crossed over; and these stones shall be for a memorial for you for the children of Israel forever.

²⁸ And I lend him to the Lord all his days that he lives, a loan to the Lord: and she said,

¹⁸ And Samuel ministered before the Lord, a child wearing a linen ephod.

¹ And the child Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days, there was no distinct vision.

⁶ Your mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

⁴ The Lord has sworn, and will not relent, You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.

⁷ His government shall be great, and of His peace there is no end; it shall be upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to establish it, and to support it with judgment and with righteousness, from this time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.

²² Now when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord

⁴¹ And His parents traveled to Jerusalem every year to the Feast of the Passover. ⁴² And when He was twelve years old, when they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast,

⁷ And she said, Who shall say to Abraham that Sarah suckles a child? For I have born a child in my old age. ⁸ And the child grew and was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast the day that his son Isaac was weaned.

⁷ and her husband should hear, and hold his peace at her in the day in which he should hear, then thus shall all her vows be binding, and her obligations, which she has contracted upon her soul shall stand. ⁸ But if her husband should straitly forbid her in the day in which he should hear her, none of her vows or obligations which she has contracted upon her soul shall stand, because her husband has disallowed her, and the Lord shall hold her guiltless. ⁹ And the vow of a widow and of her that is put away, whatsoever she shall bind upon her soul, shall stand to her. ¹⁰ And if her vow be made in the house of her husband, or the obligation upon her soul with an oath, ¹¹ and her husband should hear, and hold his peace at her, and not disallow her, then all her vows shall stand, and all the obligations which she contracted against her soul, shall stand against her.

¹⁷ And Eli answered and said to her, Go in peace, and may the God of Israel give you all your petition, which you have asked of Him.

²⁵ And now, O my Lord, the Almighty Lord God of Israel, confirm the word forever which You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house: and now as You have said,

⁹ For You are He that drew Me out of the womb; My hope from My mother's breasts.

²⁶ and confirming the word of His servant, and verifying the counsel of His messengers; who says to Jerusalem, You shall be inhabited; and to the cities of Edom, You shall be built, and her desert places shall spring forth.

¹⁹ But woe to those women who are pregnant, and to the women nursing a baby in those days!

²⁷ And it happened, while He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb which bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!"

⁹ then the worshipper shall offer upon the calf a grain offering, three tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, the half of a hin. ¹⁰ And wine for a drink offering the half of a hin, a sacrifice for an aroma of sweet savor to the Lord.

⁵ But in the place which the Lord your God shall choose in one of your cities to name His name there, and to be called upon, you shall even seek Him out and go there. ⁶ And you shall carry there your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your firstfruits, and your vowed offerings, and your freewill offerings, and your offerings of thanksgiving, the firstborn of your herds, and of your flocks.

³ And the people came to the camp, and the elders of Israel said, Why has the Lord caused us to fall this day before the Philistines? Let us take the ark of our God out of Shiloh, and let it proceed from the midst of us, and it shall save us from the hand of our enemies. ⁴ And the people sent to Shiloh, and they took from there the ark of the Lord who dwells between the cherubim. And both the sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, were with the ark.

¹⁵ And they were bringing infants to Him, that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. ¹⁶ But Jesus, summoning them, said, "Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

¹⁵ In this manner shall you be tested; by the life of Pharaoh, you shall not depart from here, unless your younger brother comes here.

³ And David answered Jonathan, and said, Your father knows surely that I have found grace in your sight, and he said, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he refuse his consent. But as the Lord lives, and your soul lives, as I said, there is but a step between me and death.

¹¹ And Uriah said to David, The ark and Israel and Judah dwell in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields; and shall I go into my house to eat and drink, and lie with my wife? How should I do this? As your soul lives, I will not do this thing.

¹⁹ And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab in all this matter with you? And the woman said to the king, As your soul lives, my lord, O king, there is no turning to the right hand or to the left from all that my lord the king has spoken; for your servant Joab himself charged me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid.

² And Elijah said to Elisha, Stay here, please; for God has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said, As the Lord lives and your soul lives, I will not leave you; so they came to Bethel.

⁴ And Elijah said to Elisha, Stay here, please; for the Lord has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the Lord lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they came to Jericho.

⁶ And Elijah said to him, Stay here please, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan. And Elisha said, As the Lord lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they both went on.

³⁰ And the mother of the child said, As the Lord lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And Elisha arose, and went after her.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow to the Lord, saying, O Lord God of Sabaoth, if You will indeed look upon the humiliation of Your maidservant and remember me, and give to your maidservant a male child, then will I indeed dedicate him to You till the day of his death; and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and no razor shall come upon his head. ¹² And it came to pass, while she was praying a long time before the Lord, that Eli the priest watched her mouth. ¹³ And she was speaking in her heart, and her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. And Eli accounted her a drunken woman.

⁹ The Lord has hearkened to my petition; the Lord has accepted my prayer.

¹⁹ Therefore God has hearkened to me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me.

¹ Alleluia. I am well pleased, because the Lord will hearken to the voice of my supplication. ² Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore will I call upon Him while I live. ³ The pangs of death compassed me; the dangers of hell found me; I found affliction and sorrow. ⁴ Then I called on the name of the Lord — O Lord, deliver my soul. ⁵ The Lord is merciful and righteous; yea, our God has pity.

⁵ I called on the Lord out of affliction; and He hearkened to me, and brought me into a wide place.

⁷ "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

¹⁵ And if we know that He hears us, whatever we may ask, we know that we have the requests that we have requested from Him.

²⁶ And the man, being well pleased, worshipped the Lord,

⁴⁸ And being well-pleased, I worshipped the Lord, and I blessed the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has prospered me in a true way, so that I should take the daughter of my master's brother for his son.

⁵² And it came to pass when the servant of Abraham heard these words, he worshipped the Lord, bowing down to the earth.

²² But Anna did not go up with him, for she said to her husband, I will not go up until the child goes up, when I have weaned him, and he shall be presented before the Lord, and he shall abide there continually.

¹⁵ and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
