² And Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites, and the courses of each one according to his ministry, to the priests and to the Levites, for the whole burnt offering, and for the peace offering, and to praise, and to give thanks, and to minister in the gates, and in the courts of the house of the Lord.

⁴ And he appointed before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, Levites to minister and lift up the voice, and to give thanks and praise the Lord God of Israel. ⁵ Asaph was the chief, and next to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, and Obed-Edom; and Jeiel sounded with musical instruments, lutes and harps, and Asaph with cymbals. ⁶ And Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests sounded continually with trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God in that day.

³⁷ And they left there Asaph and his brethren before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to minister before the ark continually, according to the service of each day; from day to day.

⁴⁰ to offer up whole burnt offerings continually morning and evening, and according to all things written in the law of the Lord, which He commanded the children of Israel by Moses the servant of God. ⁴¹ And with him were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest chosen out by name to praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.

¹ And David was old and full of days, and he made Solomon his son king over Israel in his place. ² And he assembled all the chief men of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites. ³ And the Levites numbered themselves from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls amounted to thirty-eight thousand men. ⁴ Of the overseers over the works of the house of the Lord there were twenty-four thousand, and there were six thousand scribes and judges; ⁵ and four thousand gatekeepers, and four thousand to praise the Lord with instruments which he made to praise the Lord. ⁶ And David divided them into daily courses, for the sons of Levi, for Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ⁷ And for the family of Gershon, Laadan, and Shimei. ⁸ The sons of Laadan were Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel — three in all. ⁹ The sons of Shimei were Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran, three in all: these were the chiefs of the families of Laadan. ¹⁰ And to the sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah: these were the four sons of Shimei. ¹¹ And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not multiply sons, and they became only one reckoning according to the house of their father. ¹² The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel — four in all. ¹³ The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was appointed for the consecration of the most holy things, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister and bless in His name forever. ¹⁴ And as for Moses the man of God, his sons were reckoned to the tribe of Levi. ¹⁵ The sons of Moses were Gershon, and Eliezer. ¹⁶ Of the sons of Gershon, Shebuel was the chief. ¹⁷ And the sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very greatly multiplied. ¹⁸ Of the sons of Izhar, Shelomith was the chief. ¹⁹ Of the sons of Hebron, Jeriah was the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. ²⁰ Of the sons of Uzziel, Michah was the chief, and Jesshiah the second. ²¹ The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar, and Kish. ²² And Eleazar died, and he had no sons, but daughters. And the sons of Kish, their brethren, took them as wives. ²³ The sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth — three in all. ²⁴ These are the sons of Levi according to the houses of their fathers; chiefs of their families according to their numbering, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, doing the works of service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and upward. ²⁵ For David said, The Lord God of Israel has given rest to His people, and has taken up His abode in Jerusalem forever. ²⁶ And the Levites bore not the tabernacle, or any of the vessels for its service.

²⁸ For he appointed them to wait on Aaron, to minister in the house of the Lord, over the courts, and over the chambers, and over the purification of all the holy things, and over the works of the service of the house of God; ²⁹ and for the showbread, and for the fine flour of the meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for the fried cake, and for the dough, and for every measure; ³⁰ and to stand in the morning to praise and give thanks to the Lord, and so in the evening; ³¹ and to be over all the whole burnt offerings that were offered up to the Lord on the Sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the feasts, by number, according to the order given to them, continually before the Lord.

¹ And they numbered the sons of Aaron in their division, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

¹ And King David and the captains of the army appointed to their services the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, lutes, and cymbals; and their number was according to their polls serving in their ministrations. ² The sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah; the sons of Asaph were next to the king. ³ To Jeduthun were reckoned the sons of Jeduthun, Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six after their father Jeduthun, sounding loudly on the harp thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.

¹¹ And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place (for all the priests that were found were sanctified, they were not then arranged according to their daily course),

¹⁴ And he established, according to the order of his father David, the courses of the priests, and that according to their public ministrations. And the Levites were appointed over their charges, to praise and minister before the priests according to the daily order. And the porters were appointed according to their courses to the different gates; for thus were the commandments of David the man of God.

⁸ And the Levites and all Judah did according to all that the priest Jehoiada commanded them, and they took each his men from the beginning of the Sabbath to the end of the Sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss the courses.

²⁴ And the priests killed them, and offered their blood as a propitiation on the altar; and they made atonement for all Israel; for the king said, The whole burnt offering, and the sin offering are for all Israel. ²⁵ And he stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, and lutes, and harps, according to the commandment of King David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet; for by the commandment of the Lord the order was in the hand of the prophets. ²⁶ And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

¹⁸ And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their separate orders, for the services of God in Jerusalem, according to the writing of the Book of Moses

¹⁷ Matthaniah son of Micha, and Jobeb son of Samui,

¹ A Song of Degrees. Behold now, bless the Lord, all the servants of the Lord, who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. ² Lift up your hands by night in the sanctuaries, and bless the Lord. ³ May the Lord, who made heaven and earth, bless you out of Zion.

¹ Alleluia. Praise the name of the Lord; praise the Lord, you His servants, ² who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. ³ Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises to His name; for it is good.

¹¹ the voice of gladness, and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of men saying, Give thanks to the Lord Almighty; for the Lord is good; for His mercy endures forever. And they shall bring gifts into the house of the Lord, for I will turn all the captivity of that land as before, said the Lord.

⁵ There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
