And he said, This is Elijah the Tishbite. ⁹ And he sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he went up to him; and behold, Elijah sat on the top of a mountain. And the captain of fifty spoke to him, and said, O man of God, the king has called you, come down. ¹⁰ And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, And if I am a man of God, fire shall come down out of heaven, and devour you and your fifty men. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, only not as his brethren, nor as his mother; and he removed the pillars of Baal which his father made, and broke them in pieces; only he was joined to the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who led Israel to sin; he departed not from them. And the Lord was very angry with the house of Ahab.

¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil — of it you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is one man here for us to inquire of the Lord by; but I hate him, for he does not speak good of me, but only evil; Micaiah son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat king of Judah said, Let not the king say such things!

¹² And Amaziah said to Amos, Go, seer, remove yourself to the land of Judah, and live there, and you shall prophesy there:

^{8 (2:9)} Those that observe vanities and lies have forsaken their own mercy.

⁴ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed, everyone of his vision, when he prophesies; and they shall clothe themselves with a garment of hair, because they have lied.

¹⁶ Then Herod, seeing that he had been deceived by the wise men, was greatly enraged; and he sent and executed all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men.

⁴ And John himself had his clothing made from camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

²⁵ It is enough for a disciple that he become like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call his household members!

²⁸ And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both the soul and the body in hell.

⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft garments are in kings' houses.

²⁴ But the Pharisees, having heard, said, "This Man does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, ruler of the demons." ²⁵ But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom being divided against itself is made desolate, and every city or house being divided against itself shall not stand. ²⁶ And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? ²⁷ And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

³ For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

²⁵ For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, but whoever loses his life on account of Me shall find it. ²⁶ For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give as an exchange for his soul?

⁴¹ They said to Him, "He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other farmers, who will render to him the fruits in their seasons."

³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and you will crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and you will persecute from city to city, ³⁵ so that on you may come all the righteous blood being shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

⁶⁸ saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is he that struck You?"

²⁹ When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

⁴¹ Likewise the chief priests also, mocking Him with the scribes and elders, and Pharisees, said, ⁴² He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on Him. ⁴³ He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He'll have Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.' "

⁶ Now John was clothed with camel's hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and was eating locusts and wild honey.

²² And the scribes who were from Jerusalem came down and were saying, "He has Beelzebul," and, "By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons."

²⁹ And those passing by were blaspheming Him, shaking their heads and saying, "Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,

³² Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe Him." Even those who were crucified with Him were reviling Him.

¹⁷ And he himself will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

¹¹ But they were filled with fury, and they were discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus. ¹² Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and He was spending the night in prayer to God.

⁵⁴ And when they saw this, James and John His disciples said, "Lord, do You wish that we should call down fire from heaven and consume them, as Elijah did?"

¹⁵ But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons."

⁶³ Now the men who were holding Jesus were mocking Him and beating Him. ⁶⁴ And having blindfolded Him, they were striking His face and asking Him, saying, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?"

⁵ They answered Him, "Jesus the Nazarene." Jesus said to them, "I AM." And Judas, the one betraying Him, was standing with them. ⁶ Therefore when He said to them, "I AM," they stepped back and fell to the ground. ⁷ Then He asked them again, "Whom do you seek?" And they said, "Jesus the Nazarene." ⁸ Jesus answered, "I have told you that I AM! Therefore if you seek Me, allow these men to go," ⁹ so that the word might be fulfilled which He said, "Those whom You have given Me I have lost none." ¹⁰ Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the servant's name was Malchus. ¹¹ Then Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?" ¹² Then the detachment of soldiers and the captain and the attendants of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him.

¹⁶ saying, "What shall we do to these men? For indeed, that a known sign has come to pass by them is evident to all those who are dwelling in Jerusalem, and we are not able to deny it. ¹⁷ But lest it be spread further among the people, let us threaten them with a threat, to speak no longer in this name."

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and for you to keep back for yourself from the price of the land? ⁴ While it remained unsold, did it not remain yours? And after it was sold, was it not in your control? Why have you purposed this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." ⁵ Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. And great fear came upon all those hearing these things. ⁶ And the young men rose up and covered him up, carried him out, and buried him. ⁷ And it happened about three hours later, that his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in. ⁸ And Peter answered her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?" She said, "Yes, for so much." ⁹ Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that it was agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out." ¹⁰ Then immediately she fell down beside his feet and died. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her with her husband.

²⁶ Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Get up and go toward the south on the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." This is desolate.

⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood there, and a light shined in the prison room; and striking the side of Peter, he roused him saying, "Arise quickly!" And his chains fell away from his hands. ⁸ And the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and put on your sandals"; and he did so. And he said to him, "Put on your cloak and follow me." ⁹ And going out, he was following him, and did not know that the thing taking place by the angel was true, but he was thinking that he was seeing a vision. ¹⁰ And going though the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate which leads into the city, which was opened to them of its own accord; and going out, they went forward one street, and immediately the angel withdrew from him. ¹¹ And Peter, having come to himself, said, "Now I know truly that the Lord has sent forth His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jews."

¹⁹ And Herod, seeking for him and not finding him, he examined the guards, and commanded that they be executed. And going down from Judea to Caesarea, he was spending time there.

⁹ And a certain young man named Eutychus sat in the window, being overwhelmed by a deep sleep. While Paul was speaking for a while longer, having been overwhelmed by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.

²⁴ But I count myself as nothing; nor do I regard my life as valuable to myself, so that I may complete my course with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear solemn testimony to the gospel of the grace of God.

²⁷ By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the anger of the king; for he endured as seeing the Unseen One.

³⁶ Still others took a trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and of prison.

²⁹ For our God is a consuming fire.

⁷ Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

⁹ Behold, I will give those of the synagogue of Satan, those who say they are Jews and are not, but they are lying—behold, I will compel them to come and bow down at your feet, and they shall know that I have loved you.

³ And I will give power to My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, having been clothed in sackcloth."

⁵ And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way.
