⁸ And I passed by you and saw you, and behold, it was your time and a time of resting; and I spread My wings over you, and covered your shame, and swore an oath to you; and I entered into covenant with you, says the Lord, and you became Mine.

⁴ You have seen all that I have done to the Egyptians, and I took you up as upon eagles' wings, and I brought you near to Myself. ⁵ And now if you will indeed hear My voice, and keep My covenant, you shall be to Me a peculiar people above all nations; for the whole earth is Mine. ⁶ And you shall be to Me a royal priesthood and a holy nation. These words shall you speak to the children of Israel. ⁷ And Moses came and called the elders of the people, and he set before them all these words, which God appointed them. ⁸ And all the people answered with one accord, and said, All things that God has spoken, we will do and hearken to. And Moses reported these words to God.

¹ And to Moses he said, Go up to the Lord, you and Aaron and Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: and they shall worship the Lord from a distance. ² And Moses alone shall draw near to God; and they shall not draw near, and the people shall not come up with them. ³ And Moses went in and related to the people all the words of God and the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, saying, All the words which the Lord has spoken, we will do and be obedient. ⁴ And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mountain, and set up twelve stones for the twelve tribes of Israel. ⁵ And he sent forth the young men of the children of Israel, and they offered whole burnt offerings, and they sacrificed young calves as a peace offering to God. ⁶ And Moses took half the blood and poured it into bowls, and half the blood he poured out upon the altar. ⁷ And he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the ears of the people, and they said, All things whatsoever the Lord has said we will do and be obedient. ⁸ And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it upon the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you concerning all these words.

¹³ remembering Abraham and Isaac and Jacob Your servants, to whom You have sworn by Yourself, and have spoken to them, saying, I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of heaven for multitude, and all this land which You spoke of to give to them, so that they shall possess it forever.

³¹ Because the Lord your God is a merciful God; He will not forsake you, nor destroy you; He will not forget the covenant of your fathers, which the Lord swore to them.

⁶ For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; and the Lord your God chose you to be to Him a peculiar people beyond all nations that are upon the face of the earth. ⁷ It is not because you are more numerous than all other nations that the Lord has preferred you, and the Lord has chosen you: for you are fewer in number than all other nations. ⁸ But because the Lord has loved you, and He is keeping the oath which He swore to your fathers; the Lord has brought you out with a strong hand, and the Lord has redeemed you from the house of bondage, out of the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

⁹ And he said, Who are you? And she said, I am your maidservant Ruth; spread your skirt over your maidservant, for you are a close relative.

²² For the Lord will not cast off His people for His great name's sake, because the Lord graciously took you to Himself for a people.

⁸ But you, O Israel, are My servant Jacob, and he whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham, whom I have loved; ⁹ whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and from the high places of it I have called you, and said to you, You are My servant; I have chosen you, and I have not forsaken you.

⁴ Since you became precious in My sight, you have become glorious, and I have loved you; and I will give men for you, and princes for your life.

⁷ I remembered the mercy of the Lord, the praises of the Lord in all things in which He recompenses us. The Lord is a good judge to the house of Israel; He deals with us according to His mercy, and according to the abundance of His righteousness. ⁸ And He said, Is it not My people? The children surely will not be rebellious; and He became to them deliverance ⁹ out of all their affliction; not an ambassador, nor a messenger, but He Himself saved them, because He loved them and spared them; He Himself redeemed them, and took them up, and lifted them up all the days of old.

² I remember the kindness of your youth, and the love of your betrothal, ³ in following the Holy One of Israel, says the Lord, Israel was holiness unto the Lord, and the firstfruits of His increase. All that devoured him shall offend; evils shall come upon them, says the Lord.

³ The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn you.

³² Not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day when I took hold of their hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; for they abode not in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.

⁶ And I passed by to you, and saw you polluted in your blood; and I said to you, Let there be life out of your blood;

⁵ and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord: From the day that I chose the house of Israel, and became known to the seed of the house of Jacob, and was known to them in the land of Egypt, and helped them with My hand, saying, I am the Lord your God; ⁶ in that day I helped them with My hand, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into the land which I prepared for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, it is abundant beyond every land.

¹⁸ And I will make for them in that day a covenant with the wild beasts of the field, and with the birds of the sky, and with the reptiles of the earth: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle from off the earth, and will cause you to dwell safely. ¹⁹ And I will betroth you to Myself forever; yea, I will betroth you to Myself in righteousness, and in judgment, and in mercy, and in tender compassions; ²⁰ and I will betroth you to Myself in faithfulness: and you shall know the Lord.

¹ Early in the morning were they cast off, the king of Israel has been cast off: for Israel is a child, and I loved him, and out of Egypt have I called his children.

² I have loved you, says the Lord. And you said, How have You loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? Says the Lord: yet I loved Jacob,

⁸ But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

¹⁰ And not only this, but also Rebecca having conception from one man, our father Isaac; ¹¹ for the children not yet being born, nor having done anything good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might abide, not of works but of Him who calls, ¹² it was said to her, "The older shall serve the younger." ¹³ As it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."
