¹ Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of the Persians, came up Ezra, the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, ² the son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub, ³ the son of Amariah, the son of Azaria, the son of Maraioth, ⁴ the son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki, ⁵ the son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the first priest — ⁶ this Ezra came up out of Babylon; and he was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given. And the king granted him leave, for the hand of the Lord his God was upon him in all things which he sought. ⁷ And some of the children of Israel, and some of the priests, and of the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim, came up to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king. ⁸ And they came to Jerusalem in the fifth month (this was the seventh year of the king). ⁹ For in the first day of the first month he began the going up from Babylon, and in the first day of the fifth month, they came to Jerusalem, for the good hand of his God was upon him. ¹⁰ For Ezra had determined in his heart to seek the law, and to do and teach the ordinances and judgments in Israel. ¹¹ And this is the copy of the order which Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, of the book of the words of the commandments of the Lord, and of His ordinances to Israel. ¹² Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra, the scribe of the law of the Lord God of heaven, Let the order and the answer be accomplished. ¹³ A decree is made by me, that everyone who is willing in my kingdom of the people of Israel, and of the priests and Levites, to go to Jerusalem, be permitted to go with you. ¹⁴ One has been sent from the king and his seven counselors, to visit Judea and Jerusalem, according to the law of their God which is in your hand. ¹⁵ And for the house of the Lord there has been sent silver and gold, which the king and the counselors have freely given to the God of Israel, who dwells in Jerusalem. ¹⁶ And all the silver and gold, whatsoever you shall find in all the land of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and the priests that offer freely for the house of God which is in Jerusalem. ¹⁷ And as for everyone that arrives there, speedily order him by this letter to bring calves, rams, lambs, and their grain offerings, and their drink offerings; and you shall offer them on the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem. ¹⁸ And whatever seems good to you and to your brothers to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, do as it is pleasing to your God. ¹⁹ And deliver the vessels that are given to you for the service of the house of God, before God in Jerusalem. ²⁰ And as to the rest of the needs of the house of your God, you shall give from the king's treasure houses, ²¹ and from me, whatever seems good to you to give. I, King Artaxerxes have made a decree for all the treasuries that are in the country beyond the river, that whatever Ezra the priest and scribe of the God of heaven may require of you, let it be done diligently, ²² to the amount of a hundred talents of silver, and a hundred measures of wheat, and a hundred baths of wine, and a hundred baths of oil, and salt without reckoning. ²³ Let whatever is in the decree of the God of heaven be done. Take heed lest anyone make an attack against the house of the God of heaven, lest at any time there shall be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons. ²⁴ Also this has been declared to you, with respect to all the priests, and Levites, the singers, porters, Nethinim and ministers of the house of God, let no tribute be paid to you; you shall not have power to oppress them. ²⁵ And you, Ezra, as the wisdom of God is in your hand, appoint scribes and judges, that they may judge for all the people beyond the river, all that know the law of the Lord your God; and you shall make it known to him that knows not. ²⁶ And whosoever shall not do the law of God, and the law of the king readily, judgment shall be taken upon him, whether for death or for chastisement, or for a fine of his property, or casting into prison. ²⁷ Blessed be the Lord God of our fathers, who has put it thus into the heart of the king, to glorify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem; ²⁸ and has given me favor in the eyes of the king, and of his counselors, and all the rulers of the king, the exalted ones. And I was strengthened according to the good hand of God upon me, and I gathered chief men of Israel to go up with me.

²⁸ And He said to him, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name; for you have prevailed with God, and shall be mighty with men.

¹⁴ And may God give you favor in the sight of the man, and send away your other brother, and Benjamin, for I accordingly, as I have been bereaved, am bereaved.

²⁵ And Eleazar the son of Aaron took for himself one of the daughters of Putiel as wife, and she bore to him Phinehas. These are the heads of the family of the Levites, according to their generations.

²¹ Also you shall select for yourself able men out of all the people, God fearing men, righteous men, hating pride, and you shall set over the people captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens. ²² And they shall judge the people at all times, and those matters too burdensome they shall bring to you, but they shall judge the smaller cases; so they shall relieve you and help you. ²³ If you will do this thing, God shall strengthen you, and you shall be able to endure, and all this people shall go into their own place with peace. ²⁴ And Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he said to him. ²⁵ And Moses chose out able men out of all Israel, and he made them captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties and captains of tens over the people.

¹ And these are the ordinances which you shall set before them: ² If you buy a Hebrew servant, six years shall he serve you, and in the seventh year he shall go forth free for nothing. ³ If he should have come in alone, he shall also go forth alone; and if his wife should have gone in together with him, his wife also shall go out. ⁴ Moreover, if his master gives him a wife, and she has born him sons or daughters, the wife and the children shall be his master's; and he shall go forth alone. ⁵ And if the servant should answer and say, I love my master and wife and children, I will not go away free; ⁶ his master shall bring him to the judgment seat of God, and then shall he bring him to the door, to the doorpost, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him forever. ⁷ And if anyone sell his daughter as a domestic, she shall not depart as the maidservants depart. ⁸ If she be not pleasing to her master, after she has betrothed herself to him, he shall let her go free; but he is not at liberty to sell her to a foreign nation, because he has trifled with her. ⁹ And if he should have betrothed her to his son, he shall do to her according to the right of daughters. ¹⁰ And if he take another to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her companionship with him. ¹¹ And if he will not do these three things to her, she shall go out free without money. ¹² And if any man strike another and he dies, let him be certainly put to death. ¹³ But as for him that did it not willingly, but God delivered him into his hands, I will give you a place where the slayer may flee to. ¹⁴ And if anyone lie in wait for his neighbor to slay him by craft, and he go for refuge, you shall take him from My altar to put him to death. ¹⁵ Whoever strikes his father or his mother, let him be certainly put to death. ¹⁶ Whosoever shall steal one of the children of Israel, and prevail over him and sell him, and he be found with him, let him certainly die. ¹⁷ He that reviles his father or his mother shall surely die. ¹⁸ And if two men contend with each other, and one strikes the other with a stone or with his fist, and he die not, but be laid upon his bed; ¹⁹ if the man arises and walks about with his staff, he that struck him shall be clear; only he shall pay for his loss of time, and for his healing. ²⁰ And if a man beats his manservant or his maidservant with a rod, and the party dies under his hands, he shall be surely punished. ²¹ But if the servant continues to live a day or two, let not the master be punished; for he is his property. ²² And if two men strive and strike a woman with child, and her child be born imperfectly formed, he shall be forced to pay a penalty: as the woman's husband may lay upon him, he shall pay with a valuation.

¹³ And every gift of your sacrifice shall be seasoned with salt; omit not the salt of the covenant of the Lord from your sacrifices: on every gift of yours you shall offer salt to the Lord your God.

⁶ And Moses said to Aaron, and Eleazar and Ithamar his sons that were left, You shall not make bare your heads, and you shall not tear your clothes, that you die not, and so there should be wrath on all the congregation. But your brothers, even all the house of Israel, shall lament for the burning, with which they were burned by the Lord.

¹² And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who survived, Take the sacrifice that is left of the burnt offerings of the Lord, and you shall eat unleavened bread by the altar: it is most holy.

¹⁶ And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin-offering, but it had been consumed by fire; and Moses was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar the sons of Aaron that were left, saying,

¹ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ² You shall also say to the children of Israel, If there shall be any of the children of Israel, or of those who have become proselytes in Israel, who shall give of his seed to Moloch, let him be surely put to death; the nation upon the land shall stone him with stones. ³ And I will set My face against that man, and will cut him off from his people, because he has given of his seed to Moloch, to defile My sanctuary, and profane the name of them that are consecrated to Me. ⁴ And if the natives of the land should in anyway overlook that man in giving of his seed to Moloch, so as not to put him to death; ⁵ then will I set My face against that man and his family, and I will destroy him, and all who have been of one mind with him, so that he should go a whoring to the princes, from their people. ⁶ And the soul that shall follow those who have in them divining spirits, or enchanters, so as to go a whoring after them; I will set My face against that soul, and will destroy it from among its people. ⁷ And you shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. ⁸ And you shall observe My ordinances, and do them: I am the Lord that sanctifies you. ⁹ Every man who shall speak evil of his father or of his mother, let him die the death; has he spoken evil of his father or his mother? He shall be guilty. ¹⁰ Whatever man shall commit adultery with the wife of a man, or whoever shall commit adultery with the wife of his neighbor, let them die the death, the adulterer and the adulteress. ¹¹ And if anyone should lie with his father's wife, he has uncovered his father's nakedness: let them both die the death, they are guilty. ¹² And if anyone should lie with his daughter-in-law, let them both be put to death; for they have committed perversion, they are guilty. ¹³ And whoever shall lie with a male as with a woman, they have both committed an abomination; let them die the death, they are guilty. ¹⁴ Whosoever shall take a woman and her mother, it is iniquity: they shall burn him and them with fire; so there shall not be iniquity among you. ¹⁵ And whosoever shall lie with a beast, let him die the death; and you shall kill the beast. ¹⁶ And whatever woman shall approach any beast, so as to mate with it, you shall kill the woman and the beast: let them die the death, they are guilty. ¹⁷ Whosoever shall take his sister by his father or by his mother, and shall see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness, it is a reproach: they shall be destroyed before the children of their family; he has uncovered his sister's nakedness, they shall bear their sin. ¹⁸ And whatever man shall lie with a woman that is set apart for her impurity, and shall uncover her nakedness, he has uncovered her fountain, and she has uncovered the flux of her blood: they shall both be destroyed from among their generation. ¹⁹ And you shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's sister, or of the sister of your mother; for that man has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin: they shall bear their iniquity. ²⁰ Whosoever shall lie with his near kinswoman, has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin to him: they shall die childless. ²¹ Whoever shall take his brother's wife, it is uncleanness; he has uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall die childless. ²² And keep all My ordinances, and My judgments; and you shall do them, and the land shall not be aggrieved with you, into which I bring you to dwell upon it. ²³ And walk not in the customs of the nations which I drive out from before you; for they have done all these things, and I have abhorred them: ²⁴ and I said to you, You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you for a possession, a land flowing with milk and honey: I am the Lord your God, who has separated you from all people. ²⁵ And you shall make a distinction between the clean and the unclean cattle, and between clean and unclean birds; and you shall not defile your souls with cattle, or with birds, or with any creeping things of the earth, which I have separated for you by reason of uncleanness. ²⁶ And you shall be holy to Me; because I the Lord your God am holy, who separated you from all nations, to be Mine. ²⁷ And as for a man or woman whosoever of them shall have in them a divining spirit, or be an enchanter, let them both die the death: you shall stone them with stones, they are guilty.

³² And the chief over the chief of the Levites was Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, appointed to keep the charges of the holy things.

⁴ then he that offers his gift to the Lord shall bring a grain offering of fine flour, a tenth part of an ephah mingled with oil, even with the fourth part of a hin. ⁵ And for a drink offering you shall offer the fourth part of a hin on the whole burnt offering, or on the grain offering: for every lamb you shall offer so much, as a sacrifice, an aroma of sweet savor to the Lord. ⁶ And for a ram, when you offer it as a whole burnt offering or as a sacrifice, you shall prepare as a grain offering two tenths of fine flour mingled with oil, the third part of a hin. ⁷ And you shall offer for an aroma of sweet savor to the Lord wine for a drink offering, the third part of a hin. ⁸ And if you sacrifice a young bull from the herd for a whole burnt offering or for a sacrifice, to perform a vow or a peace offering to the Lord, ⁹ then the worshipper shall offer upon the calf a grain offering, three tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, the half of a hin. ¹⁰ And wine for a drink offering the half of a hin, a sacrifice for an aroma of sweet savor to the Lord. ¹¹ Thus shall you do to one calf or to one ram, or to one lamb of the sheep or kid of the goats. ¹² According to the number of what you shall offer, so shall you do to each one, according to their number. ¹³ Every native of the country shall do thus to offer such things as sacrifices for an aroma of sweet savor to the Lord.

²⁵ Take Aaron, and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor before all the congregation; ²⁶ and take Aaron's garment from off him, and put it on Eleazar his son: and let Aaron die there and be added to his people. ²⁷ And Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and took him up to Mount Hor, before all the congregation. ²⁸ And he took Aaron's garments off him, and put them on Eleazar his son, and Aaron died on the top of the mountain. And Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

⁷ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose out of the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand, ⁸ and went in after the Israelite man into the chamber, and pierced them both through, both the Israelite man, and the woman through her womb; and the plague was stopped from the children of Israel. ⁹ And those that died in the plague were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹¹ Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest has caused My wrath to cease from the children of Israel, when I was exceedingly jealous among them, and I did not consume the children of Israel in My jealousy. ¹² Therefore say, Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace; ¹³ and he and his seed after him shall have a perpetual covenant of priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

² And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes, and before all the congregation at the door of the tabernacle of witness, saying,

⁶ And Moses sent them away, a thousand of every tribe with their forces, and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest. And the holy instruments, and the signal trumpets were in their hands.

³¹ And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.

⁵⁴ And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and brought the vessels into the tabernacle of witness, a memorial of the children of Israel before the Lord.

⁵ Behold, I have shown you the statutes and judgments as the Lord has commanded me, that you should do so in the land into which you go, to inherit it.

⁵ But in the place which the Lord your God shall choose in one of your cities to name His name there, and to be called upon, you shall even seek Him out and go there. ⁶ And you shall carry there your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your firstfruits, and your vowed offerings, and your freewill offerings, and your offerings of thanksgiving, the firstborn of your herds, and of your flocks. ⁷ And you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice in all the things on which you shall lay your hand, you and your houses, as the Lord your God has blessed you. ⁸ You shall not do altogether as we do here this day, every man that which is pleasing in his own sight. ⁹ For as yet you have not arrived at the rest and the inheritance, which the Lord our God gives you. ¹⁰ And you shall cross over the Jordan, and shall dwell in the land, which the Lord our God takes as an inheritance for you; and He shall give you rest from all your enemies round about, and you shall dwell safely. ¹¹ And there shall be a place which the Lord your God shall choose for His name to be called there, from which shall you bring all things that I order you this day; your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the firstfruits of your hands, and every choice gift of yours, whatsoever you shall vow to the Lord your God.

¹ And if there arise within you a prophet, or one who dreams a dream, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder come to pass which he spoke to you, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you know not; ³ you shall not hearken to the words of that prophet, or the dreamer of that dream, because the Lord your God is testing you, to see whether you love your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall follow the Lord your God, and fear Him, and you shall hear His voice, and attach yourselves to Him. ⁵ And that prophet or that dreamer of a dream shall die; for he has spoken to make you err from the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, who redeemed you from bondage, to thrust you out of the way which the Lord your God commanded you to walk in. So shall you abolish the evil from among you. ⁶ And if your brother by your father or mother, or your son, or daughter, or your wife in your bosom, or friend who is equal to your own soul, entreat you secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known, ⁷ of the gods of the nations that are round about you, who are near you or at a distance from you, from one end of the earth to the other; ⁸ you shall not consent to him, neither shall you hearken to him; and your eye shall not spare him, you shall feel no regret for him, neither shall you at all protect him: ⁹ you shall surely report concerning him, and your hands shall be upon him among the first to slay him, and the hands of all the people at the last. ¹⁰ And they shall stone him with stones, and he shall die, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ¹¹ And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall not again do according to this evil thing among you. ¹² And if in one of your cities which the Lord God gives you to dwell in, you shall hear men saying, ¹³ Evil men have gone out from you, and have caused all the inhabitants of their land to fall away, saying, Let us go and worship other gods, whom you knew not, ¹⁴ then you shall inquire and ask, and search diligently, and behold, if the thing is clearly true, and this abomination has taken place among you, ¹⁵ you shall utterly destroy all the inhabitants of that land with the edge of the sword; you shall solemnly curse it, and all things in it. ¹⁶ And all its spoils you shall gather into its public ways, and you shall burn the city with fire, and all its spoils publicly before the Lord your God; and it shall be uninhabited forever, it shall not be built again. ¹⁷ And none of the cursed things shall cleave to your hand, that the Lord may turn from His fierce anger, and show you mercy, and pity you, and multiply you, as He swore to your fathers; ¹⁸ if you will hear the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments, all that I charge you this day, to do that which is good and pleasing before the Lord your God.

²⁴ And if the journey is too far for you, and you are not able to bring them, because the place is far from you which the Lord your God shall choose to have His name called there, because the Lord your God will bless you; ²⁵ then you shall sell them for money, and you shall take the money in your hands, and you shall go to the place which the Lord your God shall choose. ²⁶ And you shall give the money for whatsoever your soul shall desire, for oxen or for sheep, or for wine, or you shall lay it out on strong drink, or on whatsoever your soul may desire, and you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice and your house,

¹² And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and you shall observe and do these commands.

¹⁸ You shall make for yourself judges and officers in your cities, which the Lord your God gives you in your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment;

¹⁸ And when he shall be established in his government, then shall he write for himself this repetition of the law into a book by the hands of the priests the Levites; ¹⁹ and it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord your God, and to keep all these commandments, and to observe these ordinances;

¹ And it shall come to pass, if you will indeed hear the voice of the Lord your God, to observe and do all these commands which I charge you this day, that the Lord your God shall set you on high above all the nations of the earth;

¹⁰ They shall declare Your ordinances to Jacob, and Your law to Israel; they shall place incense in the time of Your wrath continually upon Your altar.

¹ And these are those of the children of Israel that received their inheritance in the land of Canaan, to whom Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of the children of Israel, gave inheritance.

¹³ And the children of Israel sent to the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and to the sons of the half-tribe of Manasseh into the land of Gilead, both Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest,

³¹ And Phinehas the priest said to the sons of Reuben, and to the sons of Gad, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh, Today we know that the Lord is with us, because you have not trespassed grievously against the Lord, and because you have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the Lord.

³³ And it came to pass afterwards that Eleazar the high priest the son of Aaron died, and was buried in Gibeah of Phinehas his son, which he gave him in Mount Ephraim. In that day the children of Israel took the ark of God, and carried it about among them. And Phinehas exercised the priest's office in the place of Eleazar his father till he died, and he was buried in his own place Gibeah. But the children of Israel departed everyone to their place, and to their own city: and the children of Israel worshipped Astarte, and Astaroth, and the gods of the nations round about them; and the Lord delivered them into the hands of Eglom king of Moab, and he ruled over them eighteen years.

²⁸ and Phineas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron stood before it in those days; and the children of Israel inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we yet again go forth to fight with our brethren the sons of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Go up, for tomorrow I will give them into your hands.

³ And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, If you return to the Lord with all your heart, then take away the strange gods from your midst, and the groves, and prepare your hearts to serve the Lord, and serve Him only; and He shall deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.

¹⁷ And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, were priests; and Seraiah was the scribe,

³⁵ And the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his place over the army; and the kingdom was established in Jerusalem. And as for Zadok the priest, the king appointed him to be high priest in place of Abiathar. And Solomon son of David reigned over Israel and Judah in Jerusalem. And the Lord gave understanding to Solomon, and very much wisdom, and largeness of heart, as the sand by the seashore.

²⁸ And all Israel heard this judgment which the king judged, and they feared before the king; because they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute judgment.

²⁴ For he had dominion on this side of the river, and he was at peace on all sides round about.

¹ And the son of Hadad gathered all his forces, and went up and besieged Samaria, he and thirty-two kings with him, and all his horses and chariots; and they went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.

¹⁵ Also they took no account of the men into whose hands they gave the money to give to the workmen, for they acted faithfully.

⁴ Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, and take account of the money that is brought into the house of the Lord, which they that keep the door have collected of the people.

⁷ Only they did not call them to account for the money that was given to them, because they dealt faithfully. ⁸ And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

¹⁸ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the high priest, and Zephaniah the second in order, and the three doorkeepers.

⁴ Eleazar begot Phinehas, Phinehas begot Abishua; ⁵ Abishua begot Bukki, and Bukki begot Uzzi; ⁶ Uzzi begot Zerahiah, Zerahiah begot Meraioth; ⁷ Meraioth begot Amariah, and Amariah begot Ahitub; ⁸ Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Ahimaaz; ⁹ Ahimaaz begot Azariah, and Azariah begot Johanan; ¹⁰ Johanan begot Azariah (he ministered as priest in the house which Solomon built in Jerusalem); ¹¹ Azariah begot Amariah, and Amariah begot Ahitub; ¹² Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Shallum; ¹³ Shallum begot Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begot Azariah; ¹⁴ Azariah begot Seraiah, and Seraiah begot Jehozadak.

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty.

² saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat. ³ Therefore whatever they may say to you to observe, observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

²⁰ teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

³⁴ And when He came out, Jesus saw a large crowd, and He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things.

¹ Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes gathered together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. ² Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with ceremonially unclean, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault. ³ For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands with their fist, holding the tradition of the elders. ⁴ And coming from the marketplace, unless they bathe, they do not eat. And there are many other things which they have received by tradition, like the washing of cups and pitchers, copper vessels and couches. ⁵ Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, "Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but they eat bread with unwashed hands?" ⁶ And answering He said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. ⁷ And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' ⁸ "For having left the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men--the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other similar things you do." ⁹ And He said to them, "Well do you set aside the commandment of God, so that you may keep your tradition. ¹⁰ For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'Whoever speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die.' ¹¹ But you say, 'If a man says to his father or to his mother, "Whatever you might be profited by me is Corban"--' (that is, a gift), ¹² then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or for his mother, ¹³ thus nullifying the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down. And many similar things you do."

⁶ And he said, 'A hundred baths of olive oil.' So he said to him, 'Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.' ⁷ Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' So he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' And he said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'

¹⁴ And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers sitting there.

¹⁷ If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

¹ The former account I made concerning all things, O Theophilus, which Jesus began both to do and teach,

¹⁴ How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear apart from a preacher? ¹⁵ And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, of those preaching the gospel of good things!" ¹⁶ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" ¹⁷ So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹ Now I made known to you, brothers, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand,

¹² For if there is first a readiness, it is acceptable according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you in the heart of Titus.

⁷ Let each one give just as he decides in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

¹⁷ Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

¹³ for it is God who is working in you, both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

¹⁰ But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now once again you have revived your mindfulness on my behalf, inasmuch as indeed you were mindful, but you lacked opportunity.

¹ Finally then, brothers, we request of you and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, that you should abound more. ² For you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

² It is necessary, therefore, for a bishop to be irreproachable, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, well-behaved, hospitable, skillful at teaching;

¹⁵ which He will show in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

² preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all patience and teaching.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled, and all the Gentiles might hear, and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!

¹ But you speak the things which suit sound doctrine.

¹⁵ Speak these things, exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

⁴ And no man takes this honor for himself, but he that is called by God, just as Aaron also was.

¹⁰ For this is the covenant which I shall covenant with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind, and I shall inscribe them upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

¹⁶ "This is the covenant which I shall covenant with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws on their hearts, and I will inscribe them on their minds,

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those making peace.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, and elect, and faithful."

¹⁷ For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the Beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.

¹⁶ And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name having been written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

²⁴ And the nations shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth shall bring to it the glory and honor of the nations into it. ²⁵ And its gates shall by no means be closed by day, for night shall not exist there. ²⁶ And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it, so that they may enter.

¹⁴ Blessed are those who do His commandments, so that their right shall be to the tree of life, and they may enter by the gates into the city.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. The one who desires, let him take the water of life freely.
