¹ And Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the wilderness. ² And Abram was very rich in cattle, and silver, and gold. ³ And he went to the place where he came, into the wilderness as far as Bethel, as far as the place where his tent was before, between Bethel and Ai, ⁴ to the place of the altar, which he built there at first, and Abram there called on the name of the Lord. ⁵ And Lot, who went out with Abram, had sheep, oxen, and tents. ⁶ And the land was not large enough for them to live together, because their possessions were great; and the land was not large enough for them to live together. ⁷ And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle, and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle, and the Canaanites and the Perizzites then inhabited the land. ⁸ And Abram said to Lot, Let there not be strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers. ⁹ Behold, is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me; if you go to the left, I will go to the right, and if you go to the right, I will go to the left. ¹⁰ And Lot, having lifted up his eyes, observed all the country round about the Jordan, that it was all watered, before God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, as the garden of the Lord, and as the land of Egypt, until you come to Zoar. ¹¹ And Lot chose for himself all the country round the Jordan, and Lot went from the east, and they were separated each from his brother. And Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan. ¹² And Lot dwelt in a city of the neighboring people, and pitched his tent in Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were evil, and exceedingly sinful before God. ¹⁴ And God said to Abram after Lot was separated from him, Look up with your eyes, and behold from the place where you now are northward and southward, and eastward and seaward; ¹⁵ for all the land which you see, I will give to you and to your seed forever. ¹⁶ And I will make your seed like the dust of the earth; if anyone is able to number the dust of the earth, then shall your seed be numbered. ¹⁷ Arise, walk in the land, both in the length of it and in the breadth; for to you will I give it, and to your seed forever. ¹⁸ And Abram, having removed his tent, came and dwelt by the oak of Mamre, which was in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.

⁹ And Abram departed and went and encamped in the wilderness. ¹⁰ Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine prevailed in the land. ¹¹ And it came to pass when Abram approached Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, I know that you are a beautiful woman. ¹² It shall come to pass then, that when the Egyptians shall see you, that they shall say, This is his wife, and they shall kill me, but they shall keep you alive. ¹³ Say, therefore, I am his sister, that it may be well with me on account of you, and my soul shall live because of you. ¹⁴ And it came to pass when Abram entered into Egypt — the Egyptians having seen his wife that she was very beautiful — ¹⁵ that the princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh, and brought her into Pharaoh's house. ¹⁶ And they treated Abram well on her account, and he had sheep, calves, donkeys, male and female servants, mules, and camels. ¹⁷ And God afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great and severe afflictions, because of Sarai, Abram's wife. ¹⁸ And Pharaoh, having called Abram, said, What is this you have done to me, that you did not tell me that she was your wife? ¹⁹ Why then did you say, She is my sister? And I took her for a wife to myself; and now, behold, your wife is before you, take her and go quickly away. ²⁰ And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning Abram, to join in sending him forward, and his wife, and all that he had.

¹ And Abraham journeyed from there to the southern country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.

³³ And Abraham planted a field at the Well of the Oath, and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God.

⁴⁰ And Joshua conquered all the land of the hill country, and the Negev and the plain country, and Ashedoth, and her kings. They did not leave of them one that was saved: and they utterly destroyed everything that had the breath of life, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded,

⁵ And they came to him. And he divided to them seven portions, saying, Judah shall stand to them a border southward, and the sons of Joseph shall stand to them northward.

¹⁰ And Achish said to David, On whom have you made an attack today? And David said to Achish, On the south of Judea, and on the south of Jerahmeel, and on the south of the Kenite.

⁷ And they came to Mapsar of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivite and the Canaanite; and they came by the South of Judah to Beersheba.

³⁵ and the Lord has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him sheep, calves, silver, gold, male and female servants, camels, and donkeys.

¹² And Isaac sowed in that land, and he found barley in that year, and reaped one hundred fold, and the Lord blessed him. ¹³ And the man prospered, and continued prospering, till he became very great.

¹⁸ But you shall remember the Lord your God, that He gives you strength to get wealth; even that He may establish His covenant, which the Lord swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

⁷ The Lord makes poor, and makes rich; He brings low, and lifts up.

³ And his substance consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east.

¹⁰ Have You not made a hedge about him, and about his household, and all his possessions round about? And have You not blessed the works of his hands, and multiplied his substance upon the land?

²¹ Be firm, I pray, if you can endure; then your fruit shall prosper. ²² And receive a declaration from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart. ²³ And if you shall turn and humble yourself before the Lord, you have thus removed unrighteousness far from your habitation. ²⁴ You shall lay up for yourself treasure in a heap on the rock; and Ophir shall be as the rock of the torrent. ²⁵ So the Almighty shall be your helper from enemies, and He shall bring you forth as pure as silver that has been tried by fire.

¹ Alleluia. Blessed is the man that fears the Lord; he will delight greatly in His commandments. ² His seed shall be mighty in the earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed. ³ Glory and riches shall be in his house; and his righteousness endures forevermore.

⁹ Honor the Lord with your just labors, and give Him the firstfruits of your righteousness, ¹⁰ that your storehouses may be completely filled with grain, and that your presses may burst forth with wine.

²² The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches him, and grief of heart shall not be added to it.

³³ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

⁸ For bodily exercise is profitable a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the present life and of the coming life.

⁶ And Abram traveled the land lengthwise as far as Shechem, to the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites then inhabited the land.

⁸ And he departed from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and there he pitched his tent in Bethel near the sea, and Ai toward the east, and there he built an altar to the Lord, and called on the name of the Lord. ⁹ And Abram departed and went and encamped in the wilderness.

²⁶ And Seth had a son, and he called his name Enosh: he hoped to call on the name of the Lord God.

⁷ Then the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, I will give this land to your seed. And Abram built an altar there to the Lord who appeared to him. ⁸ And he departed from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and there he pitched his tent in Bethel near the sea, and Ai toward the east, and there he built an altar to the Lord, and called on the name of the Lord.

¹⁸ And Abram, having removed his tent, came and dwelt by the oak of Mamre, which was in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.

¹ And God said to Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there; and make there an altar to the God that appeared to you, when you fled from the face of Esau your brother. ² And Jacob said to his house, and to all that were with him, Remove the strange gods that are with you from the midst of you, and purify yourselves, and change your clothes. ³ And let us rise and go up to Bethel, and let us there make an alter to God who listened to me in the day of calamity, who was with me, and preserved me throughout in the journey, by which I went.

⁸ O Lord, I have loved the beauty of Your house, and the place of the tabernacle of Your glory.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of instruction, for the sons of Korah. As the deer earnestly desires the fountains of water, so my soul earnestly longs for You, O God. ² My soul has thirsted for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?

¹⁰ For one day in Your courts is better than thousands. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God, than dwell in the tents of sinners.

⁹ For then will I turn to the peoples a tongue for her generation, that all may call on the name of the Lord, to serve Him under one yoke.

² to the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all those who in every place are calling on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

¹⁸ through every prayer and petition, praying in every season in the Spirit, being watchful to this same thing with all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints-- ¹⁹ and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, in the opening of my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,

¹⁰ He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he who has loved gain, in the abundance thereof. This also is vanity. ¹¹ In the multitude of good they are increased that eat it, and what virtue has the owner, but the right of beholding it with his eyes?

¹⁷ And he reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have nowhere to gather my crops?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and I will build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my crops and my goods.

⁹ But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many senseless and harmful lusts which sink men in destruction and perdition.

¹⁹ And the boundaries of the Canaanites were from Sidon till one comes to Gerar and Gaza, till one comes to Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

¹⁸ In that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates. ¹⁹ The Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

²⁵ And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of the wells of water, which the servants of Abimelech took away.

²⁰ And the shepherds of Gerar quarreled with the shepherds of Isaac, saying that the water was theirs; and they called the name of the well, Injury, for they injured him.

³⁰ And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have made me hateful so that I should be evil to all the inhabitants of the land, both among the Canaanites and the Perizzites, and I am few in number; they will gather themselves against me and cut me in pieces, and I shall be utterly destroyed, and my house.

¹⁷ And the shepherds came, and were driving them away; and Moses rose up and rescued them, and drew water for them, and watered their sheep.

⁹ And I said, The thing which you do is not good; you will not so walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the Gentiles our enemies.

³ for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal, and walking according to human principles?

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,

¹⁴ Do all things without grumbling and disputing, ¹⁵ in order that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine as light bearers in the world,

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, redeeming the time.

¹² in order that you may walk decently toward those outside, and may have need of nothing.

³ For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, being deceived, being enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

¹⁶ For where jealousy and strife exist, there unrest and every evil deed are.

¹ From where come wars and disputes among you? Is it not from here, from your lusts, which war in your members?

¹² having your manner of life noble among the Gentiles, so that, whenever they speak against you as evildoers, when they observe the good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.

²⁷ And these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot. ²⁸ And Haran died in the presence of Terah his father, in the land in which he was born, in the country of the Chaldees. ²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nachor's wife was Milcah, daughter of Haran, and he was the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. ³⁰ And Sarai was barren, and did not bear children. ³¹ And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot his grandson, the son of Haran, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram his son, and led them forth out of the land of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan, and they came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.

²⁴ And he sent away his brothers, and they went; and he said to them, Be not angry by the way.

¹³ And having gone out the second day, he saw two Hebrew men fighting; and he said to the injurer, Why do you strike your neighbor?

¹ A Song of Degrees. See now! What is so good, or what so pleasant, as for brethren to dwell together?

¹ Anger slays even wise men, yet a submissive answer turns away wrath; but a grievous word stirs up anger.

¹⁸ A passionate man stirs up strife; but he that is slow to anger appeases even a rising one. ^(15:18A) A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels, but an ungodly man rather stirs them up.

³ It is a glory to a man to turn aside from railing, but every fool is entangled with such matters.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

²⁶ And on the next day he appeared to them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them to peace, saying, 'Men, you are brothers; why do you wrong one another?'

¹⁰ Be warmly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor preferring one another;

⁶ But brother goes to court against brother, and that before unbelievers! ⁷ Actually then, it is already a defeat for you that you have lawsuits against one another. Why not rather accept wrong? Why not rather accept being defrauded?

² with all humility and meekness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, ³ being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

¹⁴ Do all things without grumbling and disputing,

⁹ Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for me to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.

¹⁴ Pursue peace and holiness with all people, without which no one shall see the Lord:

¹ Let brotherly love remain.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those making peace.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere love for the brothers, love one another fervently from a pure heart,

¹⁷ Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

⁸ Finally, all of you be like-minded, sympathetic, loving the brothers, compassionate, friendly,

⁸ And above all things have fervent love for one another, because "love will cover a multitude of sins."

⁷ and with godliness brotherly love, and with brotherly love, love.

⁹ He who says that he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. ¹⁰ He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed over from death to life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love his brother abides in death. ¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ By this we have come to know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives in behalf of our brothers. ¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother having need, and shuts off his compassion towards him, how does the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And in this we know that we are from the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; and everyone that loves has been born of God and knows God.

²⁰ If anyone claims, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how is it possible for him to love God whom he has not seen? ²¹ And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God should love his brother also.

¹⁵ And Abimelech said to Abraham, Behold, my land is before you, dwell wherever it may please you.

¹⁰ And dwell in the midst of us; and behold, the land is spacious before you; dwell in it, and trade, and get possessions in it.

⁷ I was peaceable among them that hated peace; when I spoke to them, they warred against me without a cause.

¹⁸ If possible, as much as depends on you, keeping peace with all men.

⁷ Actually then, it is already a defeat for you that you have lawsuits against one another. Why not rather accept wrong? Why not rather accept being defrauded?

¹³ Is there anyone wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his works are in meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and strife in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and strife exist, there unrest and every evil deed are.

⁸ Finally, all of you be like-minded, sympathetic, loving the brothers, compassionate, friendly, ⁹ not rendering evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called for this purpose, that you may inherit a blessing. ¹⁰ For "He that desires to love life and see good days, let him stop his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile. ¹¹ Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. ¹² For the eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears open to their prayer; but the face of the LORD is against those doing evil."

⁸ And God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and placed there the man whom He had formed. ⁹ And God made to spring up also out of the earth every tree beautiful to the eye and good for food, and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ And a river proceeded out of Eden to water the garden, and it divided itself there into four heads.

^{6 (3:7)} And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes to look upon and beautiful to contemplate, and having taken of its fruit she ate, and she gave to her husband also with her, and they ate.

² made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, and with Shinab, king of Adamah, and with Shemeber king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela, (that is, Zoar).

⁸ And the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrhah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, (that is, Zoar) went out, and they set themselves in battle array against them for war in the Salt Valley,

¹⁷ And it came to pass when they brought them out, that they said, Save your own life by all means; look not round to that which is behind, nor stay in all the country round about, escape to the mountain, lest perhaps you be overtaken together with them. ¹⁸ And Lot said to them, I pray, my lords, ¹⁹ since your servant has found mercy before you, and you have magnified your righteousness, in what you do towards me that my soul may live, — but I shall not be able to escape to the mountain, lest perhaps the calamity overtake me and I die. ²⁰ Behold, this city is near for me to escape to, which is a small one, and there shall I be preserved, is it not little? And my soul shall live because of you. ²¹ And he said to him, Behold, I have had respect to you also about this thing, that I should not overthrow the city about which you have spoken. ²² Hurry, therefore, to escape there, for I shall not be able to do anything until you arrive there; therefore he called the name of that city, Zoar. ²³ The sun was risen upon the earth, when Lot entered into Zoar. ²⁴ And the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. ²⁵ And He overthrew these cities, and all the country round about, and all that dwelt in the cities, and the plants springing out of the ground. ²⁶ And his wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. ²⁷ And Abraham rose up early to go to the place where he had stood before the Lord. ²⁸ And he looked towards Sodom and Gomorrah, and towards the surrounding country, and saw, and behold, a flame went up from the earth, as the smoke of a furnace. ²⁹ And it came to pass, that when God destroyed all the cities of the region round about, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when the Lord overthrew those cities in which Lot dwelt. ³⁰ And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, he and his two daughters with him, for he feared to dwell in Zoar; and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters with him.

¹ And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a multitude of cattle, very great. And they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead; and the place was a place for cattle. ² And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying, ³ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon, ⁴ the land which the Lord has delivered up before the children of Israel, is pasture land, and your servants have cattle. ⁵ And they said, If we have found grace in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession, and do not cause us to pass over the Jordan. ⁶ And Moses said to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, Shall your brothers go to war, and shall you sit here? ⁷ And why do you pervert the minds of the children of Israel, that they should not cross over into the land, which the Lord gives them? ⁸ Did not your fathers do thus, when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land? ⁹ And they went up to the valley of the cluster, and spied the land, and turned aside the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land, which the Lord gave them. ¹⁰ And the Lord was very angry in that day, and swore, saying, ¹¹ Surely these men who came up out of Egypt from twenty years old and upward, who know good and evil, shall not see the land which I swore to give to Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, for they have not closely followed after Me; ¹² except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who was set apart, and Joshua the son of Nun, for they closely followed after the Lord. ¹³ And the Lord was very angry with Israel; and for forty years He caused them to wander in the wilderness, until all the generation which did evil in the sight of the Lord was extinct. ¹⁴ Behold, you have risen up in the room of your fathers, a combination of sinful men, to increase yet farther the fierce wrath of the Lord against Israel. ¹⁵ For you will turn away from Him to desert Him yet once more in the wilderness, and you will sin against this whole congregation. ¹⁶ And they came to him, and said, We will build here folds for our cattle, and cities for our possessions; ¹⁷ and we will arm ourselves and go as an advanced guard before the children of Israel, until we shall have brought them into their place; and our possessions shall remain in walled cities because of the inhabitants of the land. ¹⁸ We will not return to our houses till the children of Israel shall have been distributed, each to his own inheritance. ¹⁹ And we will not any longer inherit with them from the other side of the Jordan and onwards, because we have our full inheritance on the side beyond the Jordan eastward. ²⁰ And Moses said to them, If you will do according to these words, if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battle, ²¹ and everyone of you will pass over the Jordan fully armed before the Lord, until his enemy be destroyed from before his face, ²² and the land shall be subdued before the Lord, then afterwards you shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and as regards to Israel; and this land shall be to you for a possession before the Lord. ²³ But if you will not do so, you will sin against the Lord; and you shall know your sin, when afflictions shall come upon you. ²⁴ And you shall build for yourselves cities for your store, and folds for your cattle; and you shall do that which proceeds out of your mouth. ²⁵ And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad spoke to Moses, saying, Your servants will do as our Lord commands. ²⁶ Our store, and our wives, and all our cattle shall be in the cities of Gilead. ²⁷ But your servants will go over all armed and set in order before the Lord to battle, as the Lord says. ²⁸ And Moses appointed to them for judges Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chiefs of the families of the tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And Moses said to them, If the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad will pass over the Jordan with you, everyone armed for war before the Lord, and you shall subdue the land before you, then you shall give to them the land of Gilead for a possession. ³⁰ But if they will not pass over armed with you to war before the Lord, then shall you cause to pass over their possessions and their wives and their cattle before you into the land of Canaan, and they shall inherit with you in the land of Canaan. ³¹ And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad answered, saying, Whatsoever the Lord says to His servants, that will we do. ³² We will go over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, and you shall give us our inheritance beyond the Jordan. ³³ And Moses gave to them, even to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, and to the half tribe of Mannasseh of the sons of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with its coasts, the cities of the land round about. ³⁴ And the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, ³⁵ Sophar, Jazer, and they set them up, ³⁶ and Nimrah, and Beth Haran, strong cities, and folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, and Kirjathaim, ³⁸ and Baal Meon, surrounded with walls, and Shibma; and they called the names of the cities which they built, after their own names. ³⁹ And a son of Machir the son of Mannasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and destroyed the Amorites who dwelt in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Mannasseh, and he dwelt there. ⁴¹ And Jair the son of Mannasseh went and took their villages, and called them the villages of Jair. ⁴² And Nobah went and took Kohath and her villages, and called them Nobah after his name.

³ and the wilderness, and the country round about Jericho, the city of palm trees, to Zoar.

⁴⁶ In the country round about the Jordan did he cast them, in the clay land between Succhoth and Zaretan.

³⁴ a fruitful land into saltness, for the wickedness of them that dwell in it.

⁵ The heart of the region of Moab cries within her to Segor; for it is as a heifer of three years old; and on the Ascent of Luith they shall go up to you weeping by the way of Aroniim; she cries, Destruction, and trembling.

³ And now I will comfort you, O Zion; and I have comforted all her desert places; and I will make her desert places as a garden, and her western places as the garden of the Lord; they shall find in her gladness and exaltation, thanksgiving and the voice of praise.

³⁴ From the cry of Heshbron even to Elealeh their cities uttered their voice, from Zoar to Horonaim, and their tidings as a heifer of three years old, for the water also of Nimrim shall be dried up.

¹³ You were in the delight of the paradise of God; you were adorned with every precious stone — the sardius, topaz, emerald, carbuncle, sapphire, jasper, silver, gold, ligure, agate, amethyst, chrysolite, beryl and onyx; and you have filled your treasures and your stores in you with gold.

⁸ And such cypresses as these were in the paradise of God; and there were no pines like his shoots, and there were no firs like his branches; no tree in the paradise of God was like him in his beauty,

³ Before them is a consuming fire, and behind them is a flame kindled; the land before them is as a paradise of delight, and behind them a desolate plain, and none of them shall escape.

¹⁵ Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ Because everything that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not from the Father but is from the world.

⁹ Behold, is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me; if you go to the left, I will go to the right, and if you go to the right, I will go to the left.

¹⁴ And God said to Abram after Lot was separated from him, Look up with your eyes, and behold from the place where you now are northward and southward, and eastward and seaward;

¹⁷ And it came to pass when they brought them out, that they said, Save your own life by all means; look not round to that which is behind, nor stay in all the country round about, escape to the mountain, lest perhaps you be overtaken together with them.

³ On behalf of the saints that are in His land, He has magnified all His pleasure in them.

⁶³ I am a companion of all them that fear You, and of them that keep Your commandments.

¹⁰ Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend, nor go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; better is a friend that is near than a brother living far off.

²⁵ not forsaking the assembling of ourselves, just as is the custom for some, but exhorting one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

¹² And they also took Lot, the son of Abram's brother, and his baggage, and departed, for he dwelt in Sodom.

¹ And the two angels came to Sodom at evening. And Lot sat by the gate of Sodom. And Lot, having seen them, rose up to meet them, and he worshipped with his face to the ground, and said,

²⁵ And He overthrew these cities, and all the country round about, and all that dwelt in the cities, and the plants springing out of the ground.

²⁹ And it came to pass, that when God destroyed all the cities of the region round about, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when the Lord overthrew those cities in which Lot dwelt.

⁵ I have hated the assembly of evildoers; and will not sit with the ungodly.

³³ Do not be deceived: "Evil associations corrupts good habits."

⁷ and He rescued righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the indecent conduct of lawless men ⁸ (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, tormented his righteous soul by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)--

^{11 (6:12)} But the earth was corrupted before God, and the earth was filled with iniquity.

⁹ He was a giant hunter before the Lord God; therefore they say, As Nimrod the giant hunter before the Lord.

¹⁶ And in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the sins of the Amorites are not yet filled up, even until now.

²⁰ And the Lord said, The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah has been increased towards Me, and their sins are very great.

⁴ But before they went to sleep, the men of the city, the Sodomites, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people together. ⁵ And they called out Lot, and said to him, Where are the men that came to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may be with them. ⁶ And Lot went out to them to the porch, and he shut the door after him, ⁷ and said to them, By no means, brethren, do not act so wickedly. ⁸ But I have two daughters, who have not known a man. I will bring them out to you, and use them as it may please you, only do no injury to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shelter of my roof. ⁹ And they said to him, Stand back! You came here to sojourn, was it also to judge? Now then we would harm you more than them. And they pressed hard on the man, even Lot, and they drew near to break down the door. ¹⁰ And the men stretched forth their hands and drew Lot in to them into the house, and shut the door of the house. ¹¹ And they struck the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, and they were wearied with seeking the door.

⁷ And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was wicked before the Lord; and God killed him.

¹⁸ And the Lord sent you on a journey, and said to you, Go, and utterly destroy: you shall slay the sinners against Me, even the Amalekites; and you shall war against them until you have consumed them.

⁶ And he caused his sons to pass through the fire, and practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and made groves, and multiplied wizards, so as to do that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.

⁹ And if the Lord of Sabaoth had not left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and been made like Gomorrah.

⁸ For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah has fallen, and their tongues have spoken with iniquity, disobedient as they are towards the Lord. ⁹ Wherefore now their glory has been brought low, and the shame of their countenance has withstood them, and they have proclaimed their sin as Sodom, and made it manifest.

²⁴ Shall anyone hide himself in secret places, and I not see him? Do I not fill heaven and earth? Says the Lord.

⁴⁶ Your elder sister who dwells on your left hand is Samaria, she and her daughters: and your younger sister, that dwells on your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet notwithstanding you have not walked in their ways, neither have you done according to their iniquities within a little, but you have exceeded them in all your ways. ⁴⁸ As I live, says the Lord, this Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done. ⁴⁹ Moreover this was the sin of your sister Sodom — pride. She and her daughters lived in pleasure, in fullness of bread and in abundance; this belonged to her and her daughters, and they helped not the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they boasted, and worked iniquities before Me: so I cut them off as I saw fit.

¹⁰ Now it came to pass, as He reclined to eat in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners, having come, were reclining to eat with Jesus and His disciples.

¹³ But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

²³ And you, Capernaum, the one having been exalted to heaven, you will be brought down to Hades; because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. ²⁴ But I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."

²⁴ Therefore they called a second time the man who was blind, and said to him, "Give glory to God! We know that this Man is a sinner."

³¹ Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.

²⁷ and likewise also the males, having forsaken the natural use of the female, were inflamed by their lust for one another, males with males, committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error.

¹³ And there is no creature hidden before Him, but all things are naked and open to His eyes, to whom we must give an account.

⁶ and reducing the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes, He condemned them to destruction, having made them an example who were to be ungodly,

¹⁰ and especially those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are bold, self-willed, illustrious persons, they do not tremble at blaspheming,

⁷ as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to fornication and having gone after other flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

¹⁰ And Lot, having lifted up his eyes, observed all the country round about the Jordan, that it was all watered, before God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, as the garden of the Lord, and as the land of Egypt, until you come to Zoar.

¹⁴ And your seed shall be as the sand of the earth; and it shall spread abroad to the sea, and the south, and the north, and to the east; and in you and in your seed shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.

²⁷ Go up to the top of the quarried rock, and look with your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with your eyes, for you shall not go over this Jordan.

¹⁸ Lift up your eyes round about, and look on them all; behold, they are gathered together, and have come to you. As I live, says the Lord, you shall clothe yourself with them all as with an ornament, and put them on, as a bride in her attire.

⁴ Lift up your eyes round about, and behold your children gathered; all your sons have come from far, and your daughters shall be borne on men's shoulders.

⁷ Then the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, I will give this land to your seed. And Abram built an altar there to the Lord who appeared to him.

¹⁸ In that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates.

⁷ And I will establish My covenant between you and your seed after you, to their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be your God, and the God of your seed after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your seed after you the land in which you sojourn, even all the land of Canaan for an everlasting possession, and I will be to them a God.

¹⁸ But Abraham shall become a great and populous nation, and in him shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.

⁷ The Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, who took me out of my father's house, and out of the land from which I sprang, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, I will give this land to you and to your seed, He shall send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife to my son from there.

³ And sojourn in this land; and I will be with you, and bless you, for I will give to you and to your seed all this land; and I will establish My oath which I swore to your father Abraham. ⁴ And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven; and I will give to your seed all this land, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in your seed.

⁴ And may He give you the blessing of my father Abraham, even to you and to your seed after you, to inherit the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham.

¹³ And the Lord stood upon it, and said, I am the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; fear not, the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your seed.

¹² And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I have given to you; and it shall come to pass that I will give this land also to your seed after you.

⁴ and said to me, Behold, I will increase you, and multiply you, and will make of you a multitude of nations; and I will give this land to you, and to your seed after you, for an everlasting possession.

¹ And the Lord said to Moses, Go forward, go up from here, you and your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt, into the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I will give it to your seed.

² Command the children of Israel, and you shall say to them, You are entering into the land of Canaan: it shall be to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan with its boundaries.

¹² And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and the termination shall be the Salt Sea; this shall be your land and its borders round about. ¹³ And Moses charged the children of Israel, saying, This is the land which you shall inherit by lot, even as the Lord commanded us to give it to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Mannasseh. ¹⁴ For the tribe of the children of Reuben, and the tribe of the children of Gad have received their inheritance according to their families; and the half-tribe of Mannasseh have received their inheritances. ¹⁵ Two tribes and half a tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan by Jericho eastward, towards the sunrise. ¹⁶ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. ¹⁸ And you shall take one ruler from each tribe to divide the land to you by lot. ¹⁹ And these are the names of the men: of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ²⁰ Of the tribe of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. ²¹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. ²² Of the tribe of Dan the prince was Bukki the son of Jogli. ²³ Of the sons of Joseph of the tribe of the sons of Mannasseh, the prince was Hanniel the son of Suphi. ²⁴ Of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, the prince was Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. ²⁵ Of the tribe of Zebulun, the prince was Eliazaphan the son of Parnach. ²⁶ Of the tribe of the sons of Issachar, the prince was Paltiel the son of Azzan. ²⁷ Of the tribe of the children of Asher, the prince was Ahihud the son of Shelomi. ²⁸ Of the tribe of Naphtali, the prince was Pedahel the son of Ammihud. ²⁹ These did the Lord command to distribute the inheritances to the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.

² that you shall take of the first of the fruits of your land, which the Lord your God gives you, and you shall put them into a basket, and you shall go to the place which the Lord your God shall choose to have His name called there. ³ And you shall come to the priest who shall be in those days, and you shall say to him, I testify this day to the Lord my God, that I have come into the land which the Lord swore to our fathers to give to us. ⁴ And the priest shall take the basket out of your hands, and shall set it before the altar of the Lord your God;

⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, To your seed will I give it: and I have showed it to your eyes, but you shall not go in to it.

⁷ Are not You the Lord that destroyed the inhabitants of this land before the face of Your people Israel, and gave it to Your beloved seed of Abraham forever?

⁷ You are the Lord God, You chose Abram, and brought him out of the land of the Chaldeans, and gave him the name of Abraham. ⁸ And You found his heart faithful before You, and made a covenant with him to give to him and to his seed the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, and the Girgashites; and You have confirmed Your words, for You are righteous.

²² For those that bless Him shall inherit the earth; and they that curse Him shall be utterly destroyed.

²⁹ But the righteous shall inherit the earth, and dwell upon it forever.

⁹ which He established as a covenant to Abraham, and He remembered His oath to Isaac. ¹⁰ And He established it to Jacob for an ordinance, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant; ¹¹ saying, To you will I give the land of Canaan, the line of your inheritance; ¹² when they were few in number, very few, and sojourners in it.

¹ Alleluia. Blessed is the man that fears the Lord; he will delight greatly in His commandments. ² His seed shall be mighty in the earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

¹⁸ that we may inherit a small part of Your holy mountain.

⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

⁵ And He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a place to put his foot on, and He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him, though he had no child.

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and magnify your name, and you shall be blessed. ³ And I will bless those that bless you, and curse those that curse you, and in you shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.

⁵ And He brought him out and said to him, Look up now to heaven, and count the stars, if you shall be able to number them fully, and He said, Thus shall your seed be.

⁶ And I will increase you very exceedingly, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you.

¹⁶ And I will bless her, and give you a son by her, and I will bless him, and he shall become nations, and kings of nations shall be of him.

²⁰ And concerning Ishmael, behold, I have heard you, and behold, I have blessed him, and will increase him and multiply him exceedingly; twelve nations shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

¹³ And moreover, I will make the son of this bondwoman a great nation, because he is your seed.

¹⁷ surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand which is by the shore of the sea, and your seed shall inherit the cities of their enemies.

¹ And Abraham again took a wife, whose name was Keturah. ² And she bore to him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. ³ And Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were the Assurians, the Letushim, and the Leummim. ⁴ And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah; all these were sons of Keturah. ⁵ But Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac his son. ⁶ But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and he sent them away from his son Isaac, while he was yet living, to the country of the east. ⁷ And these were the years of the days of the life of Abraham, as many as he lived, one hundred and seventy-five years. ⁸ Then Abraham breathed his last, and died in a good old age, an old man and full of days, and was added to his people. ⁹ And Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the double cave, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is over against Mamre, ¹⁰ even the field and the cave which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth; there they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife. ¹¹ And it came to pass after Abraham was dead, that God blessed Isaac his son, and Isaac dwelt by the Well of the Vision. ¹² And these are the generations of Ishmael the son of Abraham, whom Hagar the Egyptian, the handmaid of Sarah, bore to Abraham. ¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ismael, according to the names of their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael was Nabajoth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, ¹⁴ Mishma, Dumah, Massa, ¹⁵ Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names by their towns and in their camps, twelve princes according to their nations. ¹⁷ And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was added to his fathers. ¹⁸ And he dwelt from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt, until one comes to the Assyrians; he dwelt in the presence of all his brethren. ¹⁹ And these are the generations of Isaac the son of Abraham: ²⁰ Abraham begot Isaac. And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebecca as wife, daughter of Bethuel the Syrian, out of Syrian Mesopotamia, sister of Laban the Syrian. ²¹ Now Isaac prayed to the Lord concerning Rebecca his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord heard him, and his wife Rebecca conceived in her womb. ²² And the babes leaped within her; and she said, If it will be so with me, why is this to me? And she went to inquire of the Lord. ²³ And the Lord said to her, There are two nations in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your body, and one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older shall serve the younger. ²⁴ And the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered, and she had twins in her womb. ²⁵ And the first came out red, hairy all over like a garment; and she called his name Esau. ²⁶ And after this his brother came forth, and his hand took hold of the heel of Esau; and she called his name Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when Rebecca bore them. ²⁷ And the lads grew, and Esau was a man skilled in hunting, dwelling in the country, and Jacob a simple man, dwelling in a house. ²⁸ And Isaac loved Esau, because his venison was his food, but Rebecca loved Jacob. ²⁹ And Jacob cooked a stew, and Esau came from the plain, and he was weary. ³⁰ And Esau said to Jacob, Let me taste of that red stew, because I am fainting; therefore his name was called Edom. ³¹ And Jacob said to Esau, Sell me this day your birthright. ³² And Esau said, Behold, I am going to die, and for what good does this birthright belong to me? ³³ And Jacob said to him, Swear to me this day; and he swore to him; and Esau sold his birthright to Jacob. ³⁴ And Jacob gave bread to Esau, and a stew of lentiles; and he ate and drank, and he arose and departed; thus Esau despised his birthright.

⁴ And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven; and I will give to your seed all this land, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in your seed.

³ And may my God bless you, and increase you, and multiply you, and you shall become an assembly of nations.

¹² But You said, I will do you good, and will make your seed as the sand of the sea, which shall not be numbered for multitude.

¹¹ And God said to him, I am your God; be fruitful and multiply; for nations and gatherings of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come out of your loins.

¹ And these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. ² And Esau took to himself wives of the daughters of the Canaanites; Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite; and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah, the son of Zibeon, the Hivite; ³ and Basemath, daughter of Ishmael, sister of Nabajoth. ⁴ And Adah bore to him Eliphaz; and Basemath bore Reuel. ⁵ And Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah; these are the sons of Esau, which were born to him in the land of Canaan. ⁶ And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and all his possessions, and all his cattle, and all that he had gotten, and all things whatsoever that he had acquired in the land of Canaan; and Esau went forth from the land of Canaan, from the face of his brother Jacob. ⁷ For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together; and the land of their sojourning could not bear them, because of the abundance of their possessions. ⁸ And Esau dwelt in Mount Seir; Esau is Edom. ⁹ And these are the generations of Esau, the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir. ¹⁰ And these are the names of the sons of Esau: Eliphaz, the son of Adah, the wife of Esau; and Reuel, the son of Basemath, wife of Esau. ¹¹ And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. ¹² And Timna was a concubine of Eliphaz, the son of Esau; and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These are the chiefs of Oholibamah, daughter of Anah, wife of Esau. ¹⁹ These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are the chiefs. . ²⁰ And these are the sons of Seir, the Horite, who inhabited the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, ²¹ Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These are the chiefs of the Horites, the son of Seir, in the land of Edom. ²² And the sons of Lotan were Hori and Heman; and the sister of Lotan was Timna. ²³ And these are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. ²⁴ And these are the sons of Zibeon: Ajah, and Anah; this is the Anah who found Jamin in the wilderness, when he tended the beasts of his father Zibeon. ²⁵ And these are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah. ²⁶ And these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. ²⁷ And these are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. ²⁸ And these are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. ²⁹ And these are the chiefs of Horri: Chief Lotan, Chief Shobai, Chief Zibeon, Chief Anah, ³⁰ Chief Dishon, Chief Ezer, and Chief Dishon. These are the chiefs of Horri, in their principalities in the land of Edom. ³¹ Now these are the kings which reigned in Edom, before a king reigned in Israel: ³² Bela, son of Beor reigned in Edom; and the name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ And Bela died; and Jobab, son of Zerah, from Bozrah reigned in his place. ³⁴ When Jobab died, Husham, from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. ³⁵ And when Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who cut off Midian in the plain of Moab, ruled in his place; and the name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. ³⁷ And when Samlah died, Saul of Rehoboth-by-the River reigned in his place. ³⁸ When Saul died, Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. ³⁹ And when Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor died, Hadar the son of Barad reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Pau; and the name of his wife was Mehetabel, daughter of Matred, son of Mezahab. ⁴⁰ These are the names of the chiefs of Esau, in their tribes, according to their place, in their countries, and in their nations; Chief Timnah, Chief Alvah, Chief Jetheth, ⁴¹ Chief Oholibamah, Chief Elah, Chief Pinon, ⁴² Chief Kenaz, Chief Teman, Chief Mibzar, ⁴³ Chief Magdiel, and Chief Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom in their dwelling places in the land of their possession; this is Esau, the father of Edom.

³ And He said to him, I am the God of your fathers; fear not to go down into Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.

⁷ And the children of Israel increased and multiplied, and became numerous and grew exceedingly strong, and the land multiplied them.

¹³ remembering Abraham and Isaac and Jacob Your servants, to whom You have sworn by Yourself, and have spoken to them, saying, I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of heaven for multitude, and all this land which You spoke of to give to them, so that they shall possess it forever.

¹⁰ Who has calculated the seed of Jacob, and who shall number the families of Israel? Let my soul die with the souls of the righteous, and let my seed be as their seed.

¹⁰ The Lord your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are today as the stars of heaven in multitude.

³ And it came to pass when the children of Israel sowed, that Midian and Amalek went up, and the children of the east went up together with them.

⁵ For they and their stock came up, and their tents were with them, as the locust in multitude, and there was no number to them and their camels; and they came to the land of Israel, and laid it waste.

⁸ But Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, which cannot be numbered.

⁵ And Joab gave the number of the mustering of the people to David. And all Israel was one million one hundred thousand men that drew the sword. And the sons of Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew the sword.

²³ But David took not their number from twenty years old and under, because the Lord said that he would multiply Israel as the stars of the heaven.

¹⁴ And this is their number according to the houses of their fathers; even the captains of thousands in Judah were: Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of strength, three hundred thousand. ¹⁵ And after him, Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred eighty thousand. ¹⁶ And after him Amasiah the son of Zichri, who was zealous for the Lord; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of strength. ¹⁷ And out of Benjamin there was a mighty man of strength, even Eliada, and with him two hundred thousand archers and targeteers. ¹⁸ And after him Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand mighty men of war.

¹⁸ And if you had hearkened to My commandments, then would your peace have been like a river, and your righteousness as a wave of the sea. ¹⁹ Your seed also would have been as the sand, and the offspring of your belly as the dust of the ground; neither now shall you by any means be utterly destroyed, neither shall your name perish from before Me.

¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith that it may be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those of the law, but also to those of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, ¹⁷ (just as it is written, "I have appointed you a father of many nations") before God, whom he believed, the One who gives life to the dead and calls those things which are not as though they were; ¹⁸ who, contrary to hope, on hope believed, so that he should become a father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be."

¹² Therefore even from one man they were begotten, and him as good as dead, just as the stars of the sky in multitude, and innumerable as the sand by the seashore.

⁹ After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, out of every nation, and from tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, having been clothed in long white robes, with palm branches in their hands.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see, I will give to you and to your seed forever.

Now Hebron was built seven years before Tanin of Egypt. ²³ And they came to the valley of the cluster and surveyed it; and they cut down from there a bough and one cluster of grapes upon it, and carried it on poles, and they took of the pomegranates and the figs. ²⁴ And they called that place, The Valley of the Cluster, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from there.

²⁰ And Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of all clean beasts, and of all clean birds, and offered a whole burnt offering upon the altar.

² And Sarah died in Kirjath Arba, which is in the valley, this is Hebron in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to lament for Sarah and to mourn.

²⁷ And Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to a city of the plain; this is Hebron in the land of Canaan, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

¹⁴ And Israel said to him, Go and see if your brothers and the sheep are well, and bring me word. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

¹³ And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh the son of Keniz for an inheritance.

⁸ I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.
