² And Sarai said to Abram, Behold, the Lord has restrained me from bearing, go therefore in to my maid, that I may get children for myself through her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

^{1 (3:2)} Now the serpent was the most crafty of all the brutes on the earth, which the Lord God made. And the serpent said to the woman, Has God truly said, Eat not of every tree of the garden? ^{2 (3:3)} And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, ^{3 (3:4)} but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. ^{4 (3:5)} And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die! ^{5 (3:6)} For God knew that in whatever day you should eat of it, your eyes would be opened, and you would be as gods, knowing good and evil. ^{6 (3:7)} And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes to look upon and beautiful to contemplate, and having taken of its fruit she ate, and she gave to her husband also with her, and they ate.

^{12 (3:13)} And Adam said, The woman whom You gave to be with me — she gave me of the tree, and I ate.

^{17 (3:18)} And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat of it — of that you have eaten, cursed is the ground in your labors, in pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life.

¹⁶ And I will bless her, and give you a son by her, and I will bless him, and he shall become nations, and kings of nations shall be of him.

¹⁰ And He said, I will return and come to you according to this period seasonably, and Sarah your wife shall have a son; and Sarah heard at the door of the tent, being behind him.

⁶ And Rachel said, God has given judgment for me, and heard my voice, and has given me a son; therefore she called his name Dan.

⁹ And Leah saw that she ceased from bearing, and she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her to Jacob for a wife; and he went in to her. ¹⁰ And Zilpah Leah's maid conceived, and bore Jacob a son.

²² And God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and He opened her womb.

⁴ Moreover, if his master gives him a wife, and she has born him sons or daughters, the wife and the children shall be his master's; and he shall go forth alone.

¹¹ And all the people who were in the gate said, We are witnesses; and the elders said, The Lord make your wife who goes into your house, as Rachel and as Leah, who both together built the house of Israel, and wrought mightily in Ephratha, and there shall be a name to you in Bethlehem.

³ Behold, the inheritance of the Lord, children, the reward of the fruit of the womb.
