¹ And Abraham journeyed from there to the southern country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar. ² And Abraham said concerning Sarah his wife, She is my sister, for he feared to say, She is my wife, lest at any time the men of the city should kill him for her sake. So Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. ³ And God came to Abimelech by night in his sleep, and said, Behold, you'll die for the woman whom you have taken, for she has lived with a husband. ⁴ But Abimelech had not touched her, and he said, Lord, will You destroy an ignorantly sinning and just nation? ⁵ Did he not say to me, She is my sister, and she, even she herself said, He is my brother? With a pure heart and in the righteousness of my hands have I done this. ⁶ And God said to him in his sleep, Yes, I knew that you did this with a pure heart, and I spared you, so that you should not sin against Me, therefore I did not let you touch her. ⁷ But now return the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for you, and you shall live; but if you restore her not, know that you and all yours shall die. ⁸ And Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and he spoke all these words in their ears, and all the men feared exceedingly. ⁹ And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What is this that you have done to us? Have we sinned against you, that you have brought upon me and upon my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me a deed, which no one ought to do. ¹⁰ And Abimelech said to Abraham, What have you seen in me that you have done this? ¹¹ And Abraham said, Why I said, Surely there is not the worship of God in this place, and they will slay me because of my wife. ¹² For truly she is my sister by my father, but not by my mother, and she became my wife. ¹³ And it came to pass when God brought me forth out of the house of my father, that I said to her, This righteousness you shall perform to me, in every place into which we may enter, say of me, He is my brother. ¹⁴ And Abimelech took a thousand pieces of silver, and sheep, and calves, and servants, and maid servants, and gave them to Abraham, and he returned Sarah his wife to him. ¹⁵ And Abimelech said to Abraham, Behold, my land is before you, dwell wherever it may please you. ¹⁶ And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver, those shall be to you for the price of your countenance, and to all the women with you, and speak the truth in all things. ¹⁷ And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his women servants, and they bore children. ¹⁸ Because the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

¹⁹ And the boundaries of the Canaanites were from Sidon till one comes to Gerar and Gaza, till one comes to Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

¹ And Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the wilderness.

⁷ And having turned back, they came to the Well of Judgment; this is Kadesh, and they cut to pieces all the princes of Amalek, and the Amorites dwelling in Hazezon Tamar.

¹ Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children; and she had an Egyptian maid, whose name was Hagar.

⁷ And the Angel of the Lord found her by the fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

¹⁴ Therefore she called the well, The well of Him whom I have openly seen; behold it is between Kadesh and Bered.

¹ And God appeared to him by the oak of Mamre, as he sat by the door of his tent in the heat of the day.

⁶² And Isaac went through the wilderness to the Well of the Vision, and he dwelt in the land toward the south.

¹ And there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine, which was in the time of Abraham; and Isaac went to Abimelech the king of the Philistines to Gerar.

⁶ And Isaac dwelt in Gerar.

²⁰ And the shepherds of Gerar quarreled with the shepherds of Isaac, saying that the water was theirs; and they called the name of the well, Injury, for they injured him.

²⁶ And Abimelech came to him from Gerar, and so did Ahuzzath his friend, and Phichol the commander of his army.

²⁶ And they proceeded and came to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the Wilderness of Paran Kadesh; and they brought word to them and to all the congregation, and they showed the fruit of the land.

¹⁶ And we cried to the Lord, and the Lord heard our voice, and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt; and now we are in the city of Kadesh, at the extremity of your coasts.

¹⁹ And we departed from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which you saw, by the way of the mountain of the Amorite, as the Lord our God charged us, and we came as far as Kadesh Barnea.

⁵¹ Because you disobeyed My word among the children of Israel, at the Waters of Strife, of Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin; because you sanctified Me not among the sons of Israel.

⁷ And Saul struck Amalek from Havilah to Shur, fronting Egypt.

¹³ And Asa and his people pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians fell, so that they could not recover themselves; for they were crushed before the Lord, and before His army; and they took many spoils. ¹⁴ And they destroyed their towns roundabout Gerar; for the terror of the Lord was upon them; and they plundered all their cities, for they had much spoil.

⁸ The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord will shake the wilderness of Kadesh.

¹¹ And it came to pass when Abram approached Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, I know that you are a beautiful woman. ¹² It shall come to pass then, that when the Egyptians shall see you, that they shall say, This is his wife, and they shall kill me, but they shall keep you alive. ¹³ Say, therefore, I am his sister, that it may be well with me on account of you, and my soul shall live because of you.

¹⁵ that the princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh, and brought her into Pharaoh's house.

¹² For truly she is my sister by my father, but not by my mother, and she became my wife.

⁷ And the men of the place questioned him concerning Rebecca his wife, and he said, She is my sister (for he feared to say, She is my wife, lest at any time the men of the place should kill him because of Rebecca, because she was beautiful).

¹⁶ And Abimelech said to Isaac, Depart from us, for you have become much greater than us.

² And Jehu the prophet, the son of Hanani went out to meet him, and said to him, King Jehoshaphat, do you help a sinner, or act friendly towards one hated of the Lord? Therefore has wrath come upon you from the Lord.

³⁷ But Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has broken your work, and your vessels have been wrecked. And they could not go to Tarshish.

³¹ Notwithstanding, in regard to the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who were sent to him, to inquire of him concerning the wonders which came upon the land, the Lord left him, to test him, to know what was in his heart.

¹⁶ For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise again, but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.

²⁰ For there is not a righteous man in the earth who will do good, and not sin.

¹¹ But when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before certain men came from James, he would eat together with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to draw back and began to separate himself, fearing those of the circumcision party.

²⁵ Therefore, having put off falsehood, "Let each one speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.

⁹ Do not lie to one another, since you have stripped off the old man with his practices,

⁷ But now return the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for you, and you shall live; but if you restore her not, know that you and all yours shall die.

¹² and dreamed. And behold, a ladder fixed on the earth, whose top reached to heaven, and the angels of God ascended and descended on it.

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in sleep by night, and said to him, Take heed to yourself that you do not speak evil things to Jacob at any time.

⁵ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and told it to his brothers.

⁹ And he dreamed another dream, and told it to his father, and to his brothers, and said, Behold, I have dreamed another dream: and this time, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars bowed down to me.

⁸ And they said to him, We have seen a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said to them, Is not the interpretation of them with God? Therefore tell them to me.

¹ And it came to pass after two full years that Pharaoh had a dream. He thought he stood upon the bank of the river. ² And behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fair in appearance, and choice of flesh, and they fed in the meadow. ³ Then behold, seven other cows came up after these out of the river, ill-favored and lean-fleshed, and fed by the other cows on the bank of the river. ⁴ And the seven ill-favored and lean cows devoured the seven well-favored and choice-fleshed cows. So Pharaoh awoke. ⁵ And he dreamed again. And behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, choice and good. ⁶ And behold, seven thin heads, blasted by the wind, grew up after them. ⁷ And the seven thin heads blasted with the wind devoured the seven choice and full heads. And Pharaoh awoke, and indeed, it was a dream. ⁸ And it was morning, and his soul was troubled. And he sent and called all the interpreters of Egypt, and all the wise men; and Pharaoh related to them his dream, and there was no one to interpret it to Pharaoh. ⁹ And the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, this day I remember my fault: ¹⁰ when Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put us in prison in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker. ¹¹ And we both had a dream in one night, both he and I; we saw, each according to his dream. ¹² And there was there with us a young man, a Hebrew servant of the captain of the guard; and we related to him our dreams, and he interpreted them to us. ¹³ And it came to pass, as he interpreted them to us, so also it happened, both that I was restored to my office, and that he was hanged. ¹⁴ And Pharaoh, having sent, called Joseph; and they brought him out from the prison, and shaved him, and changed his clothes, and he came to Pharaoh. ¹⁵ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have seen a vision, and there is no one to interpret it; but I have heard it said concerning you that you can hear dreams and interpret them. ¹⁶ And Joseph answered Pharaoh and said, Without God an answer of safety shall not be given to Pharaoh. ¹⁷ And Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, In my dream, I stood by the bank of the river. ¹⁸ Suddenly seven cows came up out of the river, well-favored and choice-fleshed, and they fed in the meadow. ¹⁹ And behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, evil and ill-favored and lean-fleshed, such that I never saw worse in all the land of Egypt. ²⁰ And the seven ill-favored and thin cows ate up the seven first good and choice cows. ²¹ And they went into their bellies; and it was not perceptible that they had gone into their bellies, and their appearance was ill-favored, as also at the beginning. And after I awoke, I slept, ²² and I saw again in my sleep, and seven heads came up on one stem, full and good. ²³ Then behold, seven heads, thin and blasted with the wind, sprang up close to them. ²⁴ And the seven thin and blasted heads devoured the seven fine and full heads: so I spoke to the interpreters, and there was no one to explain it to me. ²⁵ And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do. ²⁶ The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads are seven years; the dream of Pharaoh is one. ²⁷ And the seven thin cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven thin and blasted heads are seven years; there shall be seven years of famine. ²⁸ And as for the word which I have told Pharaoh, God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do. ²⁹ Behold, for seven years there is coming great plenty in all the land of Egypt. ³⁰ But there shall come seven years of famine after these, and they shall forget the plenty that shall be in all Egypt, and the famine shall consume the land. ³¹ And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of the famine that shall be after this, for it shall be very grievous. ³² And concerning the repetition of the dream to Pharaoh twice, it is because the saying which is from God shall be true, and God will hasten to accomplish it. ³³ Now then, select a wise and prudent man, and set him over the land of Egypt. ³⁴ And let Pharaoh make and appoint local governors over the land; and let them take up a fifth part of all the produce of the land of Egypt for the seven years of the plenty. ³⁵ And let them gather all the food of these seven good years that are coming, and let the grain be gathered under the hand of Pharaoh; let food be kept in the cities. ³⁶ And the stored food shall be for the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; and the land shall not be utterly destroyed by the famine.

¹² But if there had been any truth in your words, none of these evils would have befallen you. Shall not my ear receive excellent revelations from Him? ¹³ But as when terror falls upon men, with dread and a sound in the night,

¹⁵ sending a dream, or in the meditation of the night (as when a dreadful alarm happens to fall upon men, while sleeping on the bed),

¹⁴ He allowed no man to wrong them; and He rebuked kings for their sakes;

¹⁴ And when I say to the ungodly, You shall surely die; and he shall turn from his sin, and do judgment and justice, ¹⁵ and return the pledge, and repay that which he has robbed, and walk in the ordinances of life, so as to do no wrong; he shall surely live, and shall not die.

⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city about a day's journey, and he preached, and said, Yet three days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

²⁰ But while he was thinking about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take unto you Mary your wife, for that which is begotten in her is of the Holy Spirit.

¹² And having been divinely instructed in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew into their own country by another way. ¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, and take along the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is about to seek the young Child to destroy Him."

¹⁹ Now as he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him."

²³ And Abraham drew near and said, Would You destroy the righteous with the wicked, and shall the righteous be as the wicked? ²⁴ Should there be fifty righteous in the city, will You destroy them? Will You not spare the whole place for the sake of the fifty righteous, if they be in it? ²⁵ Far be it from You to do such at thing, so as to destroy the righteous with the wicked, so the righteous shall be as the wicked: far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

²⁴ And the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.

⁶ And God said to him in his sleep, Yes, I knew that you did this with a pure heart, and I spared you, so that you should not sin against Me, therefore I did not let you touch her.

¹⁷ And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his women servants, and they bore children. ¹⁸ Because the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

¹¹ And now evil men have slain a righteous men in his house, and on his bed. Now then, I will require his blood from your hand, and I will destroy you from off the earth.

¹⁷ And David said to God, Was it not I that gave orders to number the people? And I am the guilty one; I have greatly sinned; but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord God, let Your hand be upon me, and upon my father's house, and not on Your people for destruction, O Lord!

²² God, even God is the Lord, and even God Himself knows, and Israel shall know; if we have transgressed before the Lord by apostasy, let Him not deliver us this day.

⁴ And if you will walk before Me as David your father walked, in holiness of heart and uprightness, and so as to do according to all that I commanded him, and shall keep My ordinances and My commandments,

³ O Lord, remember, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in Your eyes. And Hezekiah wept with a great weeping.

¹⁷ And I know, O Lord, that You are He that searches the hearts, and You love righteousness. I have willingly offered all these things in simplicity of heart. And now I have seen with joy Your people, who are present here, willingly offering to You.

⁹ I am blameless, for I have not transgressed.

⁸ The Lord shall judge the nations: judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to my innocence that is in me.

⁴ He that is innocent in his hands and pure in his heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbor.

²¹ The harmless and upright joined themselves to me; for I waited for You, O Lord.

⁶ I will wash my hands in innocence, and compass Your altar, O Lord;

¹³ And I said, Verily in vain have I justified my heart, and washed my hands in innocence.

⁷² So he tended them in the innocence of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

³ When a just man dies he leaves regret, but the destruction of the ungodly is speedy, and causes joy.

⁷ He that walks blameless in justice shall leave his children blessed.

²² My God has sent His angel, and stopped the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me: for uprightness was found in me before Him; and moreover before you, O king, I have committed no trespass.

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that we have conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and especially toward you.

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we were to you that believe;

¹³ I, who was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I was shown mercy because, being ignorant, I did it in unbelief,

^{3 (3:4)} but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.

¹⁸ Because the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

¹¹ And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, Every man that touches this man and his wife shall be liable to death.

⁷ But your father deceived me, and changed my wages for the ten lambs, yet God did not give him the power to hurt me.

⁵ So Israel departed from Shechem, and the fear of God was upon the cities round about them, and they did not pursue after the children of Israel.

⁹ and in this house there is nothing above me, nor has anything been kept back from me, but you, because you are his wife — how then shall I do this wicked thing, and sin against God?

²⁴ For when I have cast out the nations from before your face, and have enlarged your coasts, no one shall desire your land, whenever you may go up to appear before the Lord your God, three times in the year.

² The soul which shall have sinned, and willfully overlooked the commandments of the Lord, and shall have dealt falsely in the affairs of his neighbor in the matter of a deposit, or concerning fellowship, or concerning plunder, or has in anything wronged his neighbor,

²⁶ And now my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, as the Lord has kept you from coming against innocent blood and from executing vengeance for yourself, now therefore let your enemies, and those that seek evil against my lord, become as Nabal.

³⁴ But surely as the Lord God of Israel lives, who hindered me this day from doing you harm, if you had not hastened and come to meet me, then I said, Surely there shall not be one male left to Nabal till the morning.

⁴ Against You alone have I sinned, and done evil before You; that You might be justified in Your words, and might overcome when You are judged.

¹² So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts; they will go on in their own ways.

¹¹ For the Lord loves mercy and truth; God will give grace and glory; the Lord will not withhold good things from them that walk in innocence.

¹ As a rush of water, so is the king's heart in God's hand: He turns it wherever He wishes.

⁶ Therefore, behold, I hedge up her way with thorns, and I will stop the ways, and she shall not find her path. ⁷ And she shall follow after her lovers, and shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: and she shall say, I will go, and return to my former husband; for it was better with me before than it is now.

¹ Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from the midst of them and be separated," says the Lord. "Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you."

⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will continue until one arises from out of the midst.

¹¹ And because of this, God will send them strong delusion, in order for them to believe the lie,

¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil — of it you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.

¹⁷ And God afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great and severe afflictions, because of Sarai, Abram's wife.

¹⁶ And he shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be for him in things pertaining to God.

¹ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Behold, I have made you a god to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.

¹ And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, ² This month shall be to you the beginning of months: it is the first to you among the months of the year. ³ Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, On the tenth of this month let each man take for himself a lamb according to the houses of their families, every man a lamb for his household.

¹⁷ And the father-in-law of Moses said to him, The thing that you do is not good.

⁴ it shall come to pass, whenever he shall have sinned, and transgressed, that he shall restore the plunder which he has seized, or redress the injury which he has committed, or restore the deposit which was entrusted to him, or the lost article which he has found of any kind, about which he swore unjustly, he shall even restore it in full; and he shall add to it a fifth part besides; he shall restore it to him whose it is in the day in which he happens to be convicted.

⁷ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

³² And the ground opened, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that were with Korah, and their cattle. ³³ And they went down, they and all that they had, alive into Hades; and the ground covered them, and they perished from the midst of the congregation.

⁵ And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you to the Lord.

⁸ And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry to the Lord your God for us, and He shall save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, and let us not die; for we have added to all our sins this iniquity, in asking for us a king.

²³ And far be it from me to sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will serve the Lord, and show you the good and the right way.

¹⁷ And David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel smiting the people, and he said, Behold, it is I that has done wrong, but these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand be upon me, I pray, and upon my father's house.

⁶ And King Jeroboam said to the man of God, Intreat the Lord your God, and let my hand be restored to me. And the man of God intreated the Lord, and He restored the king's hand to him, and it became as before.

¹ And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, and appear before Ahab, and I will bring rain upon the face of the earth. ² And Elijah went to appear before Ahab. And the famine was severe in Samaria. ³ And Ahab called Obadiah the steward. Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly. ⁴ And it came to pass when Jezabel had killed the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifties in a cave, and fed them with bread and water. ⁵ And Ahab said to Obadiah, Come, and let us go through the land, and to the fountains of water, and to the brooks, if by any means we may find grass, and may save the horses and mules, and so they will not perish. ⁶ And they made a division of the way between them to pass through it; Ahab went one way, and Obadiah went by another way alone. ⁷ And Obadiah was alone in the road; and Elijah came alone to meet him. And Obadiah made haste, and fell upon his face, and said, My lord Elijah, are you indeed he? ⁸ And Elijah said to him, I am: go and say to your master, Behold, Elijah is here. ⁹ And Obadiah said, What sin have I committed, that you give your servant into the hand of Ahab to slay me? ¹⁰ As the Lord your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you; and if they said, He is not here, then has he set fire to the kingdom and its territories, because he has not found you. ¹¹ And now you say, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here. ¹² And it shall come to pass when I shall have departed from you, that the Spirit of the Lord shall carry you to a land which I know not, and I shall go in to tell the matter to Ahab, and he will not find you, and he will slay me; yet your servant fears the Lord from his youth. ¹³ Has it not been told to you my lord, what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the Lord, how that I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water? ¹⁴ And now you say to me, Go, say to your master, Behold, Elijah is here; and he shall slay me. ¹⁵ And Elijah said, As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, today I will appear before him. ¹⁶ And Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him. And Ahab made haste, and went to meet Elijah. ¹⁷ And it came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to Elijah, Are you he that perverts Israel? ¹⁸ And Elijah said, I do not pervert Israel; but it is you and your father's house, in that you forsake the Lord your God, and you have gone after the Baals. ¹⁹ And now send, gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and the four hundred and fifty prophets of shame, and the four hundred prophets of the groves, that eat at Jezebel's table. ²⁰ And Ahab sent to all Israel, and gathered all the prophets to Mount Carmel. ²¹ And Elijah drew near to them all. And Elijah said to them, How long will you halt on both feet? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him. And the people answered not a word. ²² And Elijah said to the people, I alone am left, the prophet of the Lord; and the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men, and the prophets of the groves are four hundred. ²³ Let them give us two bulls, and let them choose one for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire on the wood: and I will dress the other bull, but put no fire on it. ²⁴ Then you call loudly on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord my God, and it shall come to pass that the God who shall answer by fire, He is God. And all the people answered and said, The word which you have spoken is good. ²⁵ And Elijah said to the prophets of shame, Choose to yourselves one bull, and dress it first, for you are many; and call on the name of your god; but apply no fire. ²⁶ And they took the bull and dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning till noon, and said, hear us, O Baal, hear us. And there was no voice, neither was there hearing, and they ran up and down on the alter which they had made. ²⁷ And it was noon, and Elijah the Tishbite mocked them, and said, Call with a loud voice, for he is a god; for he is meditating, or else perhaps he is engaged in business, or perhaps he is asleep, and needs to be awakened. ²⁸ And they cried with a loud voice, and cut themselves according to their custom with knives and lancets until the blood gushed out upon them. ²⁹ And they prophesied until the evening came. And it came to pass as it was the time of the offering of the sacrifice, that Elijah the Tishbite spoke to the prophets of the abominations, saying, Stand by for the present, and I will offer my sacrifice. And they stood aside and departed. ³⁰ And Elijah said to the people, Come near to me. And all the people came near to him. ³¹ And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of Israel, as the Lord spoke to him, saying, Israel shall be your name. ³² And he built up the stones in the name of the Lord, and repaired the altar that had been broken down; and he made a trench that would hold two measures of seed round about the altar. ³³ And he piled the cleft wood on the altar which he had made, and divided the whole burnt offering, and laid it on the wood, and laid it in order on the altar, and said, Fetch me four pitchers of water, and pour it on the whole burnt offering, and on the wood. And they did so. ³⁴ And he said, Do it a second time. And they did it a second time. And he said, Do it a third time. And they did it a third time. ³⁵ And the water ran round about the altar, and they filled the trench with water. ³⁶ And Elijah cried aloud to the heavens, and said, Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, answer me, O Lord, answer me this day by fire, and let all this people know that You are the Lord, the God of Israel, and I am Your servant, and for Your sake I have done these works. ³⁷ Hear me, O Lord, hear me, and let this people know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned back the heart of this people. ³⁸ Then fire fell from the Lord out of heaven, and devoured the whole burnt offerings, and the wood and the water that was in the trench, and the fire licked up the stones and the earth. ³⁹ And all the people fell upon their faces, and said, Truly the Lord is God! He is God! ⁴⁰ And Elijah said to the people, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them; and Elijah brought them down to the Brook Kishon, and he executed them there. ⁴¹ And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, and eat and drink, for there is a sound of the coming of rain. ⁴² And Ahab went up to eat and to drink; and Elijah went up to Carmel, and stooped to the ground, and put his face between his knees, ⁴³ and said to his servant, Go up, and look toward the sea. And the servant looked, and said, There is nothing. And Elijah said, Go again, seven times. ⁴⁴ And the servant went again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that behold, a little cloud like the sole of a man's foot brought water; and he said, Go up, and say to Ahab, make ready your chariot, and go down, lest the rain overtake you. ⁴⁵ And it came to pass in the meanwhile, that the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab wept, and went to Jezreel. ⁴⁶ And the hand of the Lord was upon Elijah, and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to Jezreel.

¹¹ But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, Behold, I said to myself, He will by all means come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of his God, and lay his hand upon the place, and heal the leprosy.

² And he sent Eliakim the steward, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, clothed with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz. ³ And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of tribulation and rebuke and provocation; for the children have come to the birth, but the mother has no strength. ⁴ Perhaps the Lord your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and to revile Him with the words which the Lord your God has heard; and you shall offer your prayer for the remnant that is found.

²² saying, Touch not My anointed ones, and deal not wrongfully with My prophets.

¹⁹ Such a one as would not reverence the face of an honorable man, neither knows how to give honor to the great, so as that their persons should be respected.

⁸ Now then take seven bullocks, and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and he shall offer a burnt offering for you. And My servant Job shall pray for you, for I will only accept him: for but his sake, I would have destroyed you, for you have not spoken the truth against My servant Job.

¹⁴ The Lord is the strength of them that fear Him; and His covenant is to manifest truth to them.

⁹ which He established as a covenant to Abraham, and He remembered His oath to Isaac. ¹⁰ And He established it to Jacob for an ordinance, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant; ¹¹ saying, To you will I give the land of Canaan, the line of your inheritance; ¹² when they were few in number, very few, and sojourners in it. ¹³ And they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people. ¹⁴ He allowed no man to wrong them; and He rebuked kings for their sakes; ¹⁵ saying, Touch not My anointed ones; and do My prophets no harm.

¹¹ And the Lord said to me, Pray not for this people, for their good:

¹ And the Lord said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before My face, My soul could not be toward them: dismiss this people, and let them go forth.

¹⁸ If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is in them, let them meet Me, for thus has the Lord said.

¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, You shall surely die; and you have not warned him, to give warning to the wicked, to turn from his ways, that he should live; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.

⁸ When I say to the sinner, You shall surely die; if you speak not to warn the wicked from his way, the wicked himself shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at your hand.

¹⁴ And when I say to the ungodly, You shall surely die; and he shall turn from his sin, and do judgment and justice, ¹⁵ and return the pledge, and repay that which he has robbed, and walk in the ordinances of life, so as to do no wrong; he shall surely live, and shall not die. ¹⁶ None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered, because he has wrought judgment and righteousness; by them shall he live.

⁴ He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

¹ God, who in various ways and in many ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

⁴ Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

¹⁴ Is anyone among you sick? Let him call on the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess your transgressions to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of the righteous is very powerful.

¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and He shall give him life for those who do not sin unto death. There is a sin leading to death. I do not say that he should ask about that.

⁵ And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way. ⁶ These men have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls during the days of their prophecy; and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they wish.

¹⁸ And Pharaoh, having called Abram, said, What is this you have done to me, that you did not tell me that she was your wife?

¹⁰ And Abimelech said to him, Why have you done this to us? One of my kindred might soon have lain with your wife, and you would have brought a sin of ignorance upon us.

⁷ And the sons of Jacob came from the plain; and when they heard, the men were deeply pained, and it was very grievous to them, because the man had done a disgraceful thing in Israel, having lain with the daughter of Jacob, which ought not to be done.

²⁴ And it came to pass after three months, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar your daughter-in-law has grievously played the harlot, and behold she is with child by harlotry; and Judah said, Bring her out, and let her be burned.

²¹ And Moses said to Aaron, What have this people done to you, that you have brought such a great sin upon them?

³⁵ And the Lord struck the people for the making of the calf, which Aaron made.

¹⁰ Whatever man shall commit adultery with the wife of a man, or whoever shall commit adultery with the wife of his neighbor, let them die the death, the adulterer and the adulteress.

²⁵ And Joshua said to Achan, Why have you destroyed us? The Lord destroy you this day! And all Israel stoned him with stones.

¹⁸ And he said, Why does my lord thus pursue after his servant? For in what manner have I sinned? And what unrighteousness has been found in me? ¹⁹ And now, let my lord the king hear the word of his servant: if God stirs you up against me, let your offering be acceptable; but if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have cast me out this day, so that I should not be established in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go, serve other gods.

⁵ And David was greatly moved with anger against the man; and David said to Nathan, As the Lord lives, the man that did this thing shall surely die.

¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and you have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite, to be your wife. ¹¹ Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives from before your eyes, and will give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in broad daylight.

¹² And she said to him, No, my brother, do not humble me, for it ought not to be so done in Israel; do not do this disgraceful thing!

¹⁰ He that causes upright men to err in an evil way, himself shall fall into destruction; transgressors also shall pass by prosperity, but shall not enter into it.

¹¹ For there is no partiality with God.

¹¹ whom it is necessary to shut their mouths, who overturn whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

¹² It shall come to pass then, that when the Egyptians shall see you, that they shall say, This is his wife, and they shall kill me, but they shall keep you alive.

¹² And He said, Lay not your hand upon the child, neither do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, and for My sake you have not spared your beloved son.

¹⁸ And he said to them on the third day, Do this, and you shall live, for I fear God.

¹⁵ But as for the former acts of extortion in which those who were before me oppressed them, they even took of them their last money, forty shekels for bread and wine; and the very outcasts of them exercised authority over the people; but I did not so, because of the fear of God.

²⁸ And He said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.

¹ For the end, A Psalm, by David the servant of the Lord. The transgressor, that he may sin, says within himself, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. ² For he has dealt craftily before him, to discover his iniquity and hate it. ³ The words of his mouth are transgression and deceit; he is not inclined to understand how to do good. ⁴ He devises iniquity on his bed; he gives himself to every evil way; and does not abhor evil.

⁷ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and there is good understanding to all that practice it: and godliness toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will nullify wisdom and instruction.

⁵ then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

¹³ The fear of the Lord hates unrighteousness, insolence, pride, and the ways of wicked men; and I hate the perverse ways of bad men.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nachor's wife was Milcah, daughter of Haran, and he was the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

¹³ Say, therefore, I am his sister, that it may be well with me on account of you, and my soul shall live because of you.

²² Abstain from every form of evil.

¹ And the Lord said to Abram, Go forth out of your land, and out from your family, and out of the house of your father, into the land which I will show you.

⁹ And Abram departed and went and encamped in the wilderness.

¹¹ And it came to pass when Abram approached Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, I know that you are a beautiful woman. ¹² It shall come to pass then, that when the Egyptians shall see you, that they shall say, This is his wife, and they shall kill me, but they shall keep you alive. ¹³ Say, therefore, I am his sister, that it may be well with me on account of you, and my soul shall live because of you. ¹⁴ And it came to pass when Abram entered into Egypt — the Egyptians having seen his wife that she was very beautiful — ¹⁵ that the princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh, and brought her into Pharaoh's house. ¹⁶ And they treated Abram well on her account, and he had sheep, calves, donkeys, male and female servants, mules, and camels. ¹⁷ And God afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great and severe afflictions, because of Sarai, Abram's wife. ¹⁸ And Pharaoh, having called Abram, said, What is this you have done to me, that you did not tell me that she was your wife? ¹⁹ Why then did you say, She is my sister? And I took her for a wife to myself; and now, behold, your wife is before you, take her and go quickly away. ²⁰ And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning Abram, to join in sending him forward, and his wife, and all that he had.

²¹ And Saul said to them, Blessed are you of the Lord, for you have been grieved on my account.

⁵ They have set up for themselves an evil matter, they have given counsel to hide snares; they have said, Who shall see them?

⁹ Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that it was agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out."

³ and said to him, 'Go out from your land and from your relatives, and come to a land which I will show you.' ⁴ Then he went forth from the land of the Chaldeans and settled down in Haran. And from there, after his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell. ⁵ And He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a place to put his foot on, and He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him, though he had no child.

⁸ By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go forth to the place which he was about to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

² And Abraham said concerning Sarah his wife, She is my sister, for he feared to say, She is my wife, lest at any time the men of the city should kill him for her sake. So Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

¹¹ And Abraham said, Why I said, Surely there is not the worship of God in this place, and they will slay me because of my wife.

⁹ Behold, is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me; if you go to the left, I will go to the right, and if you go to the right, I will go to the left.

¹⁰ And dwell in the midst of us; and behold, the land is spacious before you; dwell in it, and trade, and get possessions in it.

⁶ Behold, the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best land.

⁵ Did he not say to me, She is my sister, and she, even she herself said, He is my brother? With a pure heart and in the righteousness of my hands have I done this.

⁶⁵ and said to the servant, Who is that man that walks in the plain to meet us? And the servant said, This is my master; and she took her veil and covered herself.

³ And Joab said, May the Lord add to His people a hundredfold as many as they are now, and let the eyes of my lord the king see it. All are the servants of my lord. Why does my lord seek this thing? ⁸ Rebuke not evil men, lest they should hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. ⁹ Give an opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more instruction.

¹ He that loves instruction loves sense, but he that hates reproofs is a fool.

¹² In an earring of gold a precious sardius is also set; so is a wise word to an obedient ear.

⁵ Open reproofs are better than secret love.

⁶ And the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, Why do you snore? Arise, and call upon your God, that God may save us, and we perish not.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. Be zealous therefore, and repent.

³¹ And when the Lord God saw that Leah was hated, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.

¹¹ So they sent and gathered the lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it lodge in its place; and let it not slay us and our people. ¹² For there was a very great confusion in all the city, when the ark of the God of Israel entered there; and those who lived and died not were struck with tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

¹⁰ that they may offer sacrifices of sweet aroma to the God of heaven, and that they may pray for the life of the king and his sons.

⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Minaean, went and did as the Lord commanded them: and He pardoned their sin for the sake of Job. ¹⁰ And the Lord prospered Job. And when he prayed also for his friends, He forgave them their sin: and the Lord gave Job twice as much, even double of what he had before.

⁸ The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable to Him.

²⁹ God is far from the ungodly, but He hears the prayers of the righteous. ^(15:29A) Better are small receipts with righteousness, than abundant fruits with unrighteousness. ^(15:29B) Let the heart of a man think justly, that his steps may be rightly ordered of God.

¹¹ For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, who has formed the things that are to come, Inquire of Me concerning My sons, and concerning the works of My hands, ask of Me.

⁷ "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

²² And all things, as many as you may ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive."

²⁴ Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and his successors, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition, along with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

²⁵ Brothers, pray for us.

² And Jacob was angry with Rachel, and said to her, Am I in the place of God, who has deprived you of the fruit of the womb?

⁶ For the Lord gave her no child in her affliction, and according to the despondency of her affliction; and she was dispirited on this account, that the Lord had shut up her womb so as not to give her a child.

¹⁰ And they send away the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass when the ark of God went into Ekron, that the men of Ekron cried out, saying, Why have you brought back the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people?
