¹ And Jacob departed for his journey; and having looked up, he saw the host of God encamped; and the angels of God met him. ² And Jacob said, when he saw them, This is the Camp of God; and he called the name of that place, Encampments. ³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother to the land of Seir, to the country of Edom. ⁴ And he charged them, saying, Thus shall you say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob; I have sojourned with Laban and stayed there until now. ⁵ And there were born to me oxen, donkeys, sheep, male and female servants; and I sent to tell my lord Esau, that your servant might find grace in your sight. ⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau, and behold, he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men with him. ⁷ And Jacob was greatly terrified, and was perplexed; and he divided the people that was with him, and the cows, and the camels, and the sheep, into two camps. ⁸ And Jacob said, If Esau should come to one camp and strike it, the other camp shall be in safety. ⁹ And Jacob said, God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O Lord, You are He that said to me, Depart quickly to the land of your birth, and I will do you good. ¹⁰ Let there be to me a sufficiency of all the justice and all the truth which You have wrought with Your servant; for with this my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I have become two camps. ¹¹ Deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I am afraid of him, lest haply he should come and attack me, and the mother with the children. ¹² But You said, I will do you good, and will make your seed as the sand of the sea, which shall not be numbered for multitude. ¹³ And he slept there that night, and took of the gifts which he carried with him, and sent out to Esau his brother, ¹⁴ two hundred female goats, twenty male goats, two hundred sheep, twenty rams, ¹⁵ thirty milk camels with their foals, forty cows, ten bulls, twenty donkeys, and ten colts. ¹⁶ And he delivered them to his servants, every drove by itself; and he said to his servants, Go on before me, and put a space between successive droves. ¹⁷ And he charged the first, saying, If Esau my brother meets you, and he asks you, saying, To whom do you belong? And where are you going, and whose are these possessions in front of you? ¹⁸ You shall say, Your servant Jacob's; he has sent gifts to my lord Esau, and behold, he is behind us. ¹⁹ And he charged the first, the second, and the third, and all that went before him after these flocks, saying, Thus shall you speak to Esau when you find him; ²⁰ and you shall say, Behold your servant Jacob comes after us. For he said, I will appease him with the gifts going before his presence, and afterwards I will behold his face, perhaps he will accept me. ²¹ So the presents went on before him, but he himself lodged that night in the camp. ²² And he rose up in that night, and took his two wives and his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. ²³ And he took them, and passed over the brook, and brought over all his possessions. ²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him till the morning. ²⁵ And He saw that He prevailed not against him; and He touched the broad part of his thigh, and the broad part of Jacob's thigh was numbed in his wrestling with Him. ²⁶ And He said to him, Let Me go, for the day has dawned; but he said, I will not let You go, except You bless me. ²⁷ And He said to him, What is your name? And he answered, Jacob. ²⁸ And He said to him, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name; for you have prevailed with God, and shall be mighty with men. ²⁹ And Jacob asked and said, Tell me Your name; and He said, Why is it that you ask about My name? And He blessed him there. ³⁰ And Jacob called the name of that place Peniel; for, he said, I have seen God face to face, and my life was preserved. ³¹ And the sun rose upon him, when he passed Peniel; and he limped upon his thigh. ³² Therefore the children of Israel will by no means eat of the sinew which was numbed, which is on the broad part of the thigh, until this day, because the Angel touched the broad part of Jacob's thigh — even the sinew which was numbed.

¹⁶ And Elisha said, Fear not, for they who are with us are more than they that are with them. ¹⁷ And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, open the eyes of the servant, I pray, and let him see. And the Lord opened his eyes, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses, and there were chariots of fire round about Elisha.

⁷ The angel of the Lord will encamp round about them that fear Him, and will deliver them.

¹¹ For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.

²² whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come-all things are yours.

¹⁰ that the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the rulers and authorities in the heavenlies,

⁴ having become so much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

¹⁴ And He said to him, I have now come, the Commander of the army of the Lord. And Joshua fell on his face upon the earth, and said to Him, O Lord, what do You command Your servant?

³⁸ And out of the tribe of Gad the city of refuge for the manslayer, both Ramoth in Gilead, and its suburbs; Camin and its suburbs;

⁸ But Abner, the son of Ner, the commander of Saul's army, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him up from the camp to Mahanaim;

¹² And Abner the son of Ner went forth, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, from Manahaim to Gibeon.

²⁴ And David passed over to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

²⁶ And all Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead. ²⁷ And it came to pass when David came to Manahaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and Machir son of Ammiel of Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

⁸ And behold, there is with you Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim: and he cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went into the camp; and he came down to the Jordan to meet me, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put you to death with the sword.

²⁰ And he said, Do you know why I have come to you? And now I will return to fight with the prince of the Persians: and I was going in, and the prince of the Greeks came.

¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

⁶ And the Horites in the mountains of Seir, to the terebinth tree of El Paran, which is in the desert.

³⁰ And Esau said to Jacob, Let me taste of that red stew, because I am fainting; therefore his name was called Edom.

⁴¹ And Esau was angry with Jacob because of the blessing, with which his father blessed him; and Esau said in his mind, Let the days of my father's mourning draw near, that I may kill my brother Jacob. ⁴² And the words of Esau her elder son were reported to Rebecca, and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, Behold, Esau your brother threatens you, to kill you.

¹⁴ Let my lord go on before his servant, and I shall have strength on the road according to the ease of the journey before me, and according to the strength of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.

¹⁶ And Esau returned on that day on his journey to Seir.

⁶ And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and all his possessions, and all his cattle, and all that he had gotten, and all things whatsoever that he had acquired in the land of Canaan; and Esau went forth from the land of Canaan, from the face of his brother Jacob. ⁷ For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together; and the land of their sojourning could not bear them, because of the abundance of their possessions. ⁸ And Esau dwelt in Mount Seir; Esau is Edom. ⁹ And these are the generations of Esau, the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.

⁵ Do not engage in war against them, for I will not give you of their land even enough to set your foot upon, for I have given Mount Seir to the children of Esau as an inheritance.

²² As they did to the children of Esau that dwell in Seir, even as they destroyed the Horite from before them, and inherited their country, and dwelt therein instead of them until this day.

⁴ and I gave to him Isaac, and to Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave to Esau Mount Seir for him to inherit. And Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt, and became there a great and populous and mighty nation, and the Egyptians afflicted them.

¹ Behold, I send forth My messenger, and he shall survey the way before Me: and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come into His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, whom you take pleasure in: behold, He is coming, says the Lord Almighty.

⁵² and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, so they might prepare for Him.

³¹ Or what king, going to engage another king in battle, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Otherwise, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks the terms for peace.

⁷ Have you not sinned if you have brought it rightly, but not rightly divided it? Be still, to you shall be his submission, and you shall rule over him.

⁶ but hear us; you are in the midst of us a prince of God; bury your dead in our choice tombs, for none of us will by any means withhold his tomb from you, so that you should not bury your dead there.

²⁹ And let nations serve you, and princes bow down to you, and be master over your brother, and the sons of your father shall reverence you; accursed is he that curses you, and blessed is he that blesses you.

³⁷ And Isaac answered and said to Esau, If I have made him your master, and have made all his brethren his servants, and have strengthened him with grain and wine, what then shall I do for you, son?

⁵ And there were born to me oxen, donkeys, sheep, male and female servants; and I sent to tell my lord Esau, that your servant might find grace in your sight.

¹⁸ You shall say, Your servant Jacob's; he has sent gifts to my lord Esau, and behold, he is behind us.

⁸ And he said, What are these things to you, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That your servant might find grace in your sight, my lord.

²² And Aaron said to Moses, Be not angry, my lord, for you know the impulsiveness of this people.

¹⁷ And Saul recognized the voice of David, and said, Is this your voice, son David? and David said, I am your servant, my lord, O king.

³² So they put sackcloth upon their loins, and put ropes upon their heads, and said to the king of Israel, Your servant the son of Hadad says, Let our souls live, I pray. And he said, Does he yet live? He is my brother.

³ My son, do what I command you, and deliver yourself; for on your friend's account you have come into the power of evil men: faint not, but stir up even your friend for whom you have become surety.

¹ Anger slays even wise men, yet a submissive answer turns away wrath; but a grievous word stirs up anger.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, leave not your place; for soothing will put an end to great offenses.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

⁶ as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, of whom you became children, when you do good and are not afraid of any terror.

⁴³ And the man became very rich, and he had many cattle and oxen, and male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

¹⁶ All the wealth and the glory which God has taken from our father, it shall be ours, and our children's; now then do whatever God has said to you.

¹¹ Receive my blessings, which I have brought you, because God has had mercy on me, and I have all things; and he urged him, and he took them.

¹⁵ And Esau said, I will leave with you some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why so? It is enough that I have found favor before you, my lord.

²⁵ And they said, you have saved us; we have found favor before our lord, and we will be servants to Pharaoh.

² And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, Let me go now to the field, and I will glean among the ears behind the man with whomsoever I shall find favor. And she said to her, Go, daughter.

¹⁸ And she said, Your maidservant has found favor in your eyes. And the woman went her way, and entered into her lodging, and ate and drank with her husband, and her countenance was sad no longer.

⁴ And the king said to Ziba, Behold, all Memphibosheth's property is yours. And Ziba bowed down and said, My lord, O king, let me find grace in your eyes.

²² What? Have I made any demand of you? Or do I ask for strength from you,

⁴⁰ And you shall live by your sword, and shall serve your brother; and there shall be a time when you shall break and loosen his yoke from off your neck. ⁴¹ And Esau was angry with Jacob because of the blessing, with which his father blessed him; and Esau said in his mind, Let the days of my father's mourning draw near, that I may kill my brother Jacob.

⁸ And Jacob said, If Esau should come to one camp and strike it, the other camp shall be in safety.

¹ And Jacob lifted up his eyes and beheld, and lo, Esau his brother was coming, and four hundred men with him. And Jacob divided the children to Leah and to Rachel, and the two maidservants.

¹⁹ As if a man should flee from the face of a lion, and a bear should meet him; and he should spring into his house, and lean his hands upon the wall, and a serpent should bite him.

³ And let us rise and go up to Bethel, and let us there make an alter to God who listened to me in the day of calamity, who was with me, and preserved me throughout in the journey, by which I went.

¹⁰ And Pharaoh approached, and the children of Israel, having looked up, beheld, and the Egyptians encamped behind them. And they were very greatly terrified, and the children of Israel cried to the Lord,

⁴ The pangs of death compassed me, and the torrents of ungodliness troubled me exceedingly. ⁵ The pangs of hell came round about me: the snares of death prevented me.

¹³ For I heard the slander of many that dwelt round about; when they were gathered together against me, they took counsel to take my life.

⁴ My heart was troubled within me; and the fear of death fell upon me. ⁵ Fear and trembling came upon me, and darkness covered me.

² From the ends of the earth have I cried to You, when my heart was in trouble; You lifted me up on a rock; You guided me;

⁶ Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction, and He delivered them out of their distresses.

⁵ The good man is he that pities and lends; he will direct his affairs with judgment.

⁴ I looked on my right hand, and behold, for there was none that noticed me; refuge failed me; and there was none that cared for my soul.

¹¹ then good counsel shall guard you, and holy understanding shall keep you;

²⁶ So you shall be chastened by the judgment of your God, and shall rejoice.

²⁶ But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then having risen, He rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

¹⁶ "Behold, I am sending you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be as wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but have courage, I have overcome the world."

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, urging them to continue in the faith, saying, "Through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God."

⁴ who comforts us in all our tribulation, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, by means of the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

⁸ For we do not desire you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life. ⁹ Yes, we have had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, ¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death, and is delivering us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us,

¹² Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

¹ And Jacob lifted up his eyes and beheld, and lo, Esau his brother was coming, and four hundred men with him. And Jacob divided the children to Leah and to Rachel, and the two maidservants. ² And he put the two maidservants and their children with the first, and Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last. ³ But he advanced himself before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he drew near to his brother.

⁷ And I will establish My covenant between you and your seed after you, to their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be your God, and the God of your seed after you.

¹³ And the Lord stood upon it, and said, I am the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; fear not, the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your seed.

³ And the Lord said to Jacob, Return to the land of your father, and to your family, and I will be with you.

¹³ I am God that appeared to you in the place of God where you anointed a pillar to Me, and vowed to Me there a vow; now then arise and depart out of this land, depart into the land of your nativity, and I will be with you.

²⁹ And now my hand has the power to hurt you; but the God of your father spoke to me yesterday, saying, Take heed to yourself that you speak no evil words to Jacob.

⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed; but God saw my humiliation, and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you yesterday.

⁵³ The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor judge between us; and Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

⁶ And He said, I am the God of your father — the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses turned away his face, for he was afraid to gaze at God.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, because the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, each for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

⁶ And he said, O Lord God of my fathers, are not You God in heaven above, and are not You Lord of all the kingdoms of the nations? And is there not in Your hand the might of dominion, and there is no one who can resist You?

¹² O Lord our God, will You not judge them? For we have no strength to resist this great multitude that has come against us; and we know not what we shall do to them, but our eyes are toward You.

²⁰ And King Hezekiah and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz prayed concerning these things, and they cried to heaven.

⁴ I sought the Lord diligently, and He hearkened to me, and delivered me from all my sojournings. ⁵ Draw near to Him, and be enlightened; and your faces shall by no means be ashamed. ⁶ This poor man cried, and the Lord hearkened to him, and delivered him out of all his afflictions.

¹⁵ And call upon Me in the day of affliction; and I shall deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Pause.

¹⁵ He shall call upon Me, and I will hearken to him; I am with him in affliction; and I will deliver him, and glorify him.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition, along with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; ⁷ and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Now I have begun to speak to my Lord, and I am but dust and ashes.

²⁷ and said, Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not allowed His righteousness to fail, nor His truth from my master, and the Lord has brought me prosperously to the house of the brother of my lord.

¹⁰ And Jacob went forth from the Well of the Oath, and departed into Haran. ¹¹ So he came to a certain place and slept there, for the sun had gone down; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it at his head, and lay down to sleep in that place,

¹⁵ And behold, I am with you, to preserve you continually wherever you shall go; and I will bring you back to this land; for I will not desert you, until I have done all that I have said to you.

⁴³ And the man became very rich, and he had many cattle and oxen, and male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

¹⁸ But you shall remember the Lord your God, that He gives you strength to get wealth; even that He may establish His covenant, which the Lord swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

¹⁸ Then King David came in, and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord, my Lord, and what is my house, that You have loved me like this?

⁷ Though then your beginning should be small, yet your end should be unspeakably great.

⁹ But let the faithful hold on his own way, and let him that is pure of hands take courage.

⁵ I have heard the report of You by the ear before; but now my eye has seen You. ⁶ Therefore I have counted myself vile, and have fainted: and I esteem myself dust and ashes.

⁵ You made him a little lower than the angels, You have crowned him with glory and honor;

² I said to the Lord, You are my Lord; my goodness is nothing apart from You.

³⁵ And You have made me secure in my salvation; and Your right hand has helped me, and Your correction has upheld me to the end; yea, Your correction itself shall instruct me.

⁷ He shall endure forever before God. Which of them shall seek out His mercy and truth?

⁷ They shall go from strength to strength; the God of gods shall be seen in Zion.

¹⁰ Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

¹⁸ But the ways of the righteous shine like light; they go forth and shine, until the day has fully come.

⁵ And I said, Woe is me, for I am pricked to the heart; for being a man, and having unclean lips, I dwell in the midst of a people having unclean lips; and I have seen with my eyes the King, the Lord of hosts.

⁷ I remembered the mercy of the Lord, the praises of the Lord in all things in which He recompenses us. The Lord is a good judge to the house of Israel; He deals with us according to His mercy, and according to the abundance of His righteousness.

⁸ In you, O Lord, is our righteousness, and to us belongs confusion of face, and to our kings, and to our princes, and to our fathers, forasmuch as we have sinned. ⁹ To you, O Lord our God, belong compassion and forgiveness, whereas we have departed from You.

²⁰ He shall give blessings truly to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as You swore to our fathers, according to the former days.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"

¹⁰ So likewise you, whenever you do all the things having been commanded to you, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what we ought to do.' "

¹¹ I have become a fool in boasting; you have compelled me! For I ought to have been commended by you; for in nothing have I been inferior to the super apostles, though I am nothing.

¹² And I give thanks to the One who empowers me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because He considered me faithful, putting me into the ministry, ¹³ I, who was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I was shown mercy because, being ignorant, I did it in unbelief, ¹⁴ and the grace of our Lord superabounded with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Faithful is this word, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first.

⁵ Likewise, younger people, subject yourselves to the elders. And all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility, because "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

⁸ If we claim that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we claim that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

⁴¹ And Esau was angry with Jacob because of the blessing, with which his father blessed him; and Esau said in his mind, Let the days of my father's mourning draw near, that I may kill my brother Jacob.

⁶ And if you should come upon a brood of birds before your face in the way or upon any tree, or upon the earth, young or eggs, and the mother is brooding on the young or the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young ones.

¹⁰ And they cried to the Lord, and said, We have sinned, for we have forsaken the Lord, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths; and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve You.

^{15 (24:16)} The Lord be judge and umpire between me and you, the Lord look upon and judge my cause, and rescue me out of your hand.

¹ A writing of David. Keep me, O Lord; for I have hoped in You.

²⁰ Keep my soul, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed; for I have hoped in You.

² Incline Your ear to me; make haste to rescue me; be to me my protecting God, and a fortress of defense to save me.

¹ A Psalm of David. Judge me, O God, and plead my cause, against an ungodly nation; deliver me from the unjust and crafty;

¹ For the end. Destroy not; by David for a memorial, when Saul sent, and watched his house to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O God; and ransom me from those that rise up against me. ² Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

¹³⁴ Deliver me from the false accusation of men; so will I keep Your commandments.

⁶ Attend to my supplication, for I am brought very low; deliver me from them that persecute me; for they are stronger than I.

¹⁹ A brother helped by a brother is as a strong and high city, and is as strong as a well-founded palace.

¹⁷ For our God whom we serve is in the heavens, able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He shall rescue us from your hands, O king.

¹⁴ Therefore shall destruction rise up among your people, and all your strong places shall be ruined. As a prince Solomon departed out of the house of Jeroboam, in the days of battle they dashed the mother to the ground upon the children,

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

¹⁷ surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand which is by the shore of the sea, and your seed shall inherit the cities of their enemies.

¹³ And the Lord stood upon it, and said, I am the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; fear not, the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your seed. ¹⁴ And your seed shall be as the sand of the earth; and it shall spread abroad to the sea, and the south, and the north, and to the east; and in you and in your seed shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed. ¹⁵ And behold, I am with you, to preserve you continually wherever you shall go; and I will bring you back to this land; for I will not desert you, until I have done all that I have said to you.

⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau, and behold, he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men with him.

³ And He said to him, I am the God of your fathers; fear not to go down into Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there. ⁴ And I will go down with you into Egypt, and I will bring you up at the end; and Joseph shall put his hands on your eyes.

¹³ remembering Abraham and Isaac and Jacob Your servants, to whom You have sworn by Yourself, and have spoken to them, saying, I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of heaven for multitude, and all this land which You spoke of to give to them, so that they shall possess it forever.

¹⁹ God is not as a man that He should waver, nor as a son of man that He should be threatened; shall He say and not perform? Shall He speak and not keep His word?

²⁹ And Israel shall be divided in two: and God will not turn nor repent, for He is not as a man to repent.

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.

¹³ If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.

² in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time itself,

¹⁷ Thus God, wanting to show even more clearly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His counsel, guaranteed it by an oath,

² And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood before him; and having seen them, he ran to meet them from the door of his tent, and bowed himself to the ground.

²⁰ and you shall say, Behold your servant Jacob comes after us. For he said, I will appease him with the gifts going before his presence, and afterwards I will behold his face, perhaps he will accept me. ²¹ So the presents went on before him, but he himself lodged that night in the camp.

¹⁰ And Jacob said, If I have found grace in your sight, receive the gifts through my hands; therefore have I seen your face, as if anyone should see the face of God, and you shall be well-pleased with me.

⁶ Now Joseph was ruler over the land; and he sold to all the people of the land. And the brothers of Joseph, having come, bowed down to him, with their faces to the ground.

¹¹ And Israel their father said to them, If it be so, do this; take of the fruits of the earth in your vessels, and carry down to the man presents of balm and honey, frankincense and myrrh, pistachio nuts and walnuts.

²⁶ And Joseph entered into the house, and they brought him the gifts which they had in their hands, into the house; and they bowed down before him with their faces to the ground.

⁸ Ask your servants, and they will tell you. Let then your servants find grace in your eyes, for we have come on a good day; please give whatsoever your hand may find, to your son David.

²⁷ And now accept this token of goodwill, which your servant has brought to my lord, and you shall give it to the servants that wait on my lord.

⁸ Instruction is to them that use it a gracious reward; and wherever it may turn, it shall prosper.

¹⁶ A man's gift enlarges him, and seats him among princes.

⁶ Many court the favor of kings, but every bad man becomes a reproach to another man.

¹⁴ A secret gift calms anger, but he that forbears to give stirs up strong wrath.

⁹ So God has taken away all the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

² And there was a man in Maon, and his flocks were in Carmel, and he was a very great man; and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand female goats. And he happened to be shearing his flock in Carmel.

³ And his substance consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east.

¹² And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than the beginning: and his livestock consisted of fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys of the pastures.

²⁰ and you shall say, Behold your servant Jacob comes after us. For he said, I will appease him with the gifts going before his presence, and afterwards I will behold his face, perhaps he will accept me.

⁸ And he said, What are these things to you, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That your servant might find grace in your sight, my lord. ⁹ And Esau said, I have much, my brother; keep your own.

³ But he advanced himself before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he drew near to his brother.

⁴ And he charged them, saying, Thus shall you say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob; I have sojourned with Laban and stayed there until now. ⁵ And there were born to me oxen, donkeys, sheep, male and female servants; and I sent to tell my lord Esau, that your servant might find grace in your sight.

⁵ According to the number of the lords of the Philistines, five golden tumors, for the plague was on you, and on your rulers, and on the people; and golden rats, the likeness of the rats that destroy your land. And you shall give glory to the Lord, that He may lighten His hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

¹⁷ And now consider what you will do; for mischief is determined against our lord and against his house; and he is a vile character, and one cannot speak to him. ¹⁸ And Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two vessels of wine, and five sheep readily dressed, and five ephahs of fine flour, and one homer of dried grapes, and two hundred cakes of figs, and put them upon donkeys. ¹⁹ And she said to her servants, Go on before me, and behold I come after you. But she told not her husband. ²⁰ And it came to pass when she had mounted her donkey and was going down by the covert of the mountain, that behold, David and his men came down to meet her, and she met them. ²¹ And David said, Perhaps I have kept all his possessions in the wilderness that he should wrong me, and we did not order the taking of anything, of all his goods; yet he has rewarded me evil for good. ²² So God do to David and more also, if I leave one male of all that belongs to Nabal until the morning. ²³ And Abigail saw David, and she dismounted quickly from her donkey; and she fell before David on her face, and bowed down to him, bowing to the ground, ²⁴ even to his feet, and said, On me, my lord, be my wrong. Let your servant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your servant. ²⁵ Let not my lord take to heart this pestilent man, for according to his name, so is he — Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! But I, your maidservant, did not see the servants of my lord whom you sent. ²⁶ And now my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, as the Lord has kept you from coming against innocent blood and from executing vengeance for yourself, now therefore let your enemies, and those that seek evil against my lord, become as Nabal. ²⁷ And now accept this token of goodwill, which your servant has brought to my lord, and you shall give it to the servants that wait on my lord. ²⁸ Remove the trespass of your servant, I pray; for the Lord will surely make for my lord a sure house, for the Lord fights the battles of my lord, and no evil shall ever be found in you. ²⁹ And if a man shall rise up persecuting you and seeking your life, yet shall the life of my lord be bound up in the bundle of life with the Lord God, and you shall whirl the life of your enemies as in the midst of a sling. ³⁰ And it shall be when the Lord has brought to pass for my lord all the good things He has spoken concerning you, and shall appoint you to be ruler over Israel, ³¹ then this shall not be an abomination and offense to my lord, to have shed innocent blood without cause, and for my lord to have avenged himself. And so may the Lord do good to my lord, and you shall remember your maidservant, to do her good. ³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this very day to meet me. ³³ And blessed be your conduct, and blessed are you, who has hindered me this very day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself. ³⁴ But surely as the Lord God of Israel lives, who hindered me this day from doing you harm, if you had not hastened and come to meet me, then I said, Surely there shall not be one male left to Nabal till the morning. ³⁵ And David took of her hand all that she brought to him, and said to her, Go in peace to your house: see, I have heeded your voice, and accepted your petition.

³¹ And he said to his servants, I know that the kings of Israel are merciful kings: let us now put sackcloth upon our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and let us go forth to the king of Israel, if by any means he will save our souls alive.

⁸ Now then take seven bullocks, and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and he shall offer a burnt offering for you. And My servant Job shall pray for you, for I will only accept him: for but his sake, I would have destroyed you, for you have not spoken the truth against My servant Job. ⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Minaean, went and did as the Lord commanded them: and He pardoned their sin for the sake of Job.

³⁵ He will not forego his enmity for any ransom: neither will he be reconciled by many gifts.

¹⁸ A passionate man stirs up strife; but he that is slow to anger appeases even a rising one. ^(15:18A) A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels, but an ungodly man rather stirs them up.

¹⁴ The anger of a king is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify him.

⁹ Who knows if God will relent, and turn from His fierce anger, and so we shall not perish?

²⁵ in meekness instructing those that oppose, if God perhaps may give them repentance, to a full knowledge of the truth,

²¹ And Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her. ²² And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a marriage feast. ²³ And so it was, that he took his daughter Leah, and brought her in to Jacob, and Jacob went in to her. ²⁴ And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah, as a maid for her.

²¹ And after this she bore a daughter; and she called her name Dinah. ²² And God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and He opened her womb. ²³ And she conceived, and bore Jacob a son; and Rachel said, God has taken away my reproach. ²⁴ And she called his name Joseph, saying, Let God add to me another son.

¹⁸ And it came to pass in her giving up the ghost (for she was dying), that she called his name, The son of my pain; but his father called his name Benjamin.

^{22 (35:21)} And it came to pass when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, the concubine of his father Jacob; and Israel heard, and the thing appeared grievous before him. ^(35:22) Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: ²³ The sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob's firstborn; Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. ²⁴ And the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁵ And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali. ²⁶ And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.

³⁷ Only we did not draw near to the children of Ammon, even all the parts bordering on the brook Jabbok, and the cities in the mountain country, as the Lord our God commanded us.

¹⁶ And to Reuben and to Gad I gave the land under Gilead as far as the brook of Arnon, the border between the brook and as far as Jabbok; the brook is the border to the children of Ammon.

² Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, ruling from Arnon, which is in the valley, on the side of the valley, and half of Gilead as far as Jabbok, the borders of the children of Ammon.

⁸ But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

⁸ And Rachel said, God has helped me, and I contended with my sister and prevailed; and she called his name Naphtali.

²⁸ And He said to him, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name; for you have prevailed with God, and shall be mighty with men.

³⁰ And Jacob called the name of that place Peniel; for, he said, I have seen God face to face, and my life was preserved.

¹⁶ the angel who delivers me from all evils, bless these boys, and my name shall be called upon them, and the name of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac; and let them be increased to a great multitude on the earth.

²⁷ And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the water returned to its place toward day; and the Egyptians fled from the water, and the Lord shook off the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

¹⁷ Until the day dawn, and the shadows depart, turn, my kinsman, be like to a gazelle or young hart on the mountains of the ravines.

² And a man shall hide his words, and be hidden, as from rushing water, and shall appear in Zion as a rushing river, glorious in a thirsty land.

³ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and in his labors he had power with God. ⁴ And he prevailed with the Angel and was strong. They wept, and entreated Me: they found Me in the house of On, and there a word was spoken to them. ⁵ But the Lord God Almighty shall be his memorial.

²⁴ Strive to enter through the narrow gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

⁴⁴ And being in agony, He prayed more fervently. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down onto the ground.

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. ²⁷ But He that searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes on behalf of the saints according to the will of God.

³⁰ Now I beg you, brothers, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in prayers to God on my behalf,

⁴⁷ The first man was from earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.

¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenlies.

¹⁸ through every prayer and petition, praying in every season in the Spirit, being watchful to this same thing with all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints--

¹ For I want you to know how great a struggle I have concerning you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,

¹² Epaphras greets you, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, always struggling for you in his prayers, that you may stand mature and complete in all the will of God.

⁷ who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up both prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears to the One who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His fear of God,

²² Hurry, therefore, to escape there, for I shall not be able to do anything until you arrive there; therefore he called the name of that city, Zoar.

³² Therefore the children of Israel will by no means eat of the sinew which was numbed, which is on the broad part of the thigh, until this day, because the Angel touched the broad part of Jacob's thigh — even the sinew which was numbed.

¹³ And Moses said to the Lord, So Egypt shall hear, for You have brought up this people from them by Your might. ¹⁴ Moreover all the inhabitants of this land have heard that You are Lord in the midst of this people, who, O Lord, are seen by them face to face, and Your cloud rests upon them, and You go before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire.

⁶ And I said in my prosperity, I shall never be moved. ⁷ O Lord, in Your good pleasure You added strength to my beauty; but You turned away Your face, and I was troubled.

¹⁴ Fear not, Jacob, and you Israel few in number; I have helped you, says your God, He that redeems you, O Israel.

¹¹ For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, who has formed the things that are to come, Inquire of Me concerning My sons, and concerning the works of My hands, ask of Me.

³ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and in his labors he had power with God. ⁴ And he prevailed with the Angel and was strong. They wept, and entreated Me: they found Me in the house of On, and there a word was spoken to them.

²² And behold, a Canaanite woman coming forth from that region cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed." ²³ But He answered her not a word. And His disciples approached and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us." ²⁴ But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." ²⁵ Then she came and worshipped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" ²⁶ But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and to throw it to the little dogs." ²⁷ But she said, "Yes, Lord, for even the little dogs eat from the crumbs falling from their masters' table." ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

⁴¹ Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. Indeed the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

⁴⁴ And leaving them, He went away again, and prayed a third time, saying the same words.

⁵ And He said to them, "Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves; ⁶ for a friend has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; ⁷ and he will answer from within and say, 'Do not trouble me; the door has already been shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give to you'? ⁸ I say to you, even if he will not get up and give to him, because he is his friend, yet on account of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

⁷ And lest I exalt myself above measure by the excellence of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, that it might beat me, lest I exalt myself above measure. ⁸ Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. ⁹ And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

¹⁰ Now therefore let Me alone, and I will be very angry with them and consume them, and I will make you a great nation.

¹⁴ And now I shall utterly destroy them, and I will blot out their name from under heaven, and will make of you a nation great and strong, and more numerous than this.

¹⁰ And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, O that You would indeed bless me, and enlarge my coasts, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would make me know that You will not grieve me! And God granted him all that he asked.

⁶ The earth has yielded her fruit; let God, our God, bless us. ⁷ Let God bless us, and let all the ends of the earth fear Him.

¹ Then He spoke a parable to them, that one must always pray and not lose heart, ² saying: "A certain judge was in a certain city, who did not fear God nor have regard for men. ³ Now there was a widow in that city; and she kept coming to him, saying, 'Give justice to me against my adversary.' ⁴ And he did not want to for a time; but afterward he said within himself, 'although I do not fear God, nor have regard for man, ⁵ yet because this widow bothers me I will give justice to her, lest she wear me out by forever coming to me.' " ⁶ Then the Lord said, "Hear what the unjust judge said. ⁷ And God, shall He not execute justice for His own elect, who cry out day and night to Him, and yet He is patient with them?

²⁸ Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He made as though He was going farther. ²⁹ But they constrained Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to stay with them.

³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

⁵⁸ So then, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

⁵ And your name shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.

¹⁵ And God said to Abraham, Sarai, your wife — her name shall not be called Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.

³¹ And Jacob said to Esau, Sell me this day your birthright.

³³ And Isaac was amazed with very great amazement, and said, Who then is it that has procured venison for me and brought it to me? And I have eaten all of it before you came, and I have blessed him, and he shall be blessed. ³⁴ And it came to pass when Esau heard the words of his father Isaac, he cried out with a great and very bitter cry, and said, Bless me — me also, father! ³⁵ And he said to him, Your brother has come with subtlety, and has taken your blessing. ³⁶ And he said, Rightly was his name called Jacob, for behold, this second time has he supplanted me; he has both taken my birthright, and now he has taken my blessing! And Esau said to his father, Have you not a blessing left for me, father?

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in sleep by night, and said to him, Take heed to yourself that you do not speak evil things to Jacob at any time.

³⁶ And Jacob was angry, and contended with Laban; and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my injustice, and what is my sin, that you have pursued after me, ³⁷ and that you have searched all the furniture of my house? What have you found of all the furniture of your house? Set it here between your relations and my relations, and let them decide between us two. ³⁸ These twenty years have I been with you; your sheep, and your female goats have not failed in bearing; and I have not eaten the rams of your cattle. ³⁹ That which was torn of beasts I did not bring to you; I made good of myself the thefts of the day, and the thefts of the night. ⁴⁰ I was parched with heat by day, and chilled with frost by night, and my sleep departed from my eyes. ⁴¹ These twenty years have I been in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years among your sheep, and you falsely changed my wages for ten lambs. ⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed; but God saw my humiliation, and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you yesterday. ⁴³ And Laban answered and said to Jacob, The daughters are my daughters, and the sons my sons, and the cattle are my cattle, and all things which you see are mine, and the property of my daughters; what shall I do to them today, or their children which they bore? ⁴⁴ Now then come, let me make a covenant, both you and I, and it shall be for a witness between me and you; and he said to him, Behold, there is no one with us; behold, God is witness between me and you. ⁴⁵ And Jacob, having taken a stone, set it up for a pillar. ⁴⁶ And Jacob said to his brethren, Gather stones; and they gathered stones and made a heap, and ate there upon the heap; and Laban said to him, This heap witnesses between me and you this day. ⁴⁷ And Laban called it, the Heap of Testimony; and Jacob called it, the Witness Heap. ⁴⁸ And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and the pillar, which I have set between me and you; this heap witnesses, and this pillar witnesses; therefore its name was called, The Heap Witnesses. ⁴⁹ And the vision of which he said, Let God look to it between me and you, because we are about to depart from each other. ⁵⁰ If you shall humble my daughters, if you should take wives in addition to my daughters, see, there is no one with us looking on. God is witness between me and you. ⁵¹ And Laban said to Jacob, Behold, this heap and this pillar are a witness. ⁵² For if I should not cross over unto you, neither should you cross over to me, for mischief beyond this heap and this pillar. ⁵³ The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor judge between us; and Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac. ⁵⁴ And he offered a sacrifice in the mountain, and called his brethren, and they ate and drank, and slept in the mountain. ⁵⁵ And Laban rose up in the morning, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them; and Laban, having turned back, departed to his place.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him till the morning.

⁴ And Esau ran on to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they both wept.

²⁰ And he set up an altar there, and called on the God of Israel.

¹⁰ And God said to him, Your name shall not be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name; and He called his name Israel.

¹⁶ These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land; and Moses called Oshea the son of Nun, Joshua.

²⁵ And Saul said to David, Blessed are you, my son; and you shall surely do valiantly, and shall surely prevail. And David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

²⁵ And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and called his name Jedidiah, for the Lord's sake.

³¹ And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of Israel, as the Lord spoke to him, saying, Israel shall be your name.

³⁴ Until this day they did according to their manner: they feared the Lord, and they did according to their customs, and according to their manner, and according to the law, and according to the commandment which the Lord commanded the sons of Jacob, whose name He made Israel.

^{7 (16:5A)} The beginning of a good way is to do justly, and it is more acceptable with God than to offer sacrifices.

² And the Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and kings your glory; and one shall call you by a new name, which the Lord shall name. ³ And you shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. ⁴ And you shall no more be called Forsaken; and your land shall no more be called Desert; for you shall be called My Pleasure, and your land Inhabited; for the Lord has taken pleasure in you, and your land shall be inhabited.

¹⁵ For you shall leave your name for a loathing to My chosen, and the Lord shall destroy you; but My servants shall be called by a new name,

⁴² And he led him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone).

¹⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to him some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except he who receives it." '

²⁸ And may God give you of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of grain and wine. ²⁹ And let nations serve you, and princes bow down to you, and be master over your brother, and the sons of your father shall reverence you; accursed is he that curses you, and blessed is he that blesses you.

³ And may my God bless you, and increase you, and multiply you, and you shall become an assembly of nations. ⁴ And may He give you the blessing of my father Abraham, even to you and to your seed after you, to inherit the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham.

¹³ And the Lord stood upon it, and said, I am the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; fear not, the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your seed. ¹⁴ And your seed shall be as the sand of the earth; and it shall spread abroad to the sea, and the south, and the north, and to the east; and in you and in your seed shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.

²⁶ And He said to him, Let Me go, for the day has dawned; but he said, I will not let You go, except You bless me. ²⁷ And He said to him, What is your name? And he answered, Jacob.

²⁹ The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, to do all the words of this law.

¹⁶ And the Angel of the Lord said to Manoah, If you should detain Me, I will not eat of your bread; and if you would offer a whole burnt offering, you shall offer it to the Lord: for Manoah knew not that He was the Angel of the Lord. ¹⁷ And Manoah said to the Angel of the Lord, What is Your name, that when Your word shall come to pass, we may glorify You? ¹⁸ And the Angel of the Lord said to him, Why do you thus ask after My name; seeing it is Wonderful?

⁷ Will you find out the traces of the Lord? Or have you come to the end of that which the Almighty has made?

⁴ Who has gone up to heaven, and come down? Who has gathered the winds in His bosom? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has dominion of all the ends of the earth? What is His name? Or what is the name of His children?

⁶ For a Child is born to us, and a Son is given to us, whose government is upon His shoulder; and His name is called the Messenger of great counsel; for I will bring peace upon the princes, and health to Him.

¹ In their affliction they will seek Me early, saying, Let us go, and return to the Lord our God; for He has torn, and will heal us; He will smite, and bind us up.

¹⁹ And the angel answered and said to him, "I am Gabriel, who stands before God, and I was sent to speak to you and to proclaim the good news to you of these things.

¹³ And she called the name of the Lord God who spoke to her, You are the God who sees; for she said, For I have openly seen Him that appeared to me.

¹⁹ And he called the name of that place, the House of God; and the name of the city before was Luz.

¹⁰ And they saw the place where the God of Israel stood; and under His feet was as it were a work of sapphire slabs, and as it were the appearance of the firmament of heaven in its purity. ¹¹ And of the chosen ones of Israel there was not even one missing, and they appeared in the place of God, and did eat and drink.

¹⁴ And He said, I Myself will go before you, and give you rest.

¹⁹ And God said, I will pass by before you with My glory, and I will call by My name, LORD, before you; and I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and will have pity on whom I will have pity. ²⁰ And God said, You shall not be able to see My face; for no man shall see My face and live. ²¹ And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by Me: you shall stand upon the rock; ²² and when My glory shall pass by, then I will put you into a hole of the rock; and I will cover you over with My hand, until I have passed by. ²³ And I will remove My hand, and then shall you see My back parts; but My face shall not appear to you.

⁸ I will speak plainly to him, mouth to mouth, and not in dark speeches; and he has seen the glory of the Lord; and why were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?

²⁴ and you said, Behold, the Lord our God has shown us His glory, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire: this day we have seen that God shall speak to man, and he shall live.

¹⁰ And there rose up no more a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,

²² And Gideon saw that He was the Angel of the Lord; and Gideon said, Ah, O Lord my God! For I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face. ²³ And the Lord said to him, Peace be with you, fear not, you shall not die.

⁸ Then he went up to Penuel, and spoke to them likewise. And the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Soccoth had answered him.

¹⁷ And he overthrew the tower of Penuel, and killed the men of the city.

²¹ And the Angel appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that this was the Angel of the Lord. ²² And Manoah said to his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

²⁵ And Jeroboam built Shechem in Mount Ephraim and dwelt in it, and went forth from there and built Penuel.

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, He who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

⁶ Because it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

⁶ I marvel that you are turning so quickly from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

¹⁵ He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation,

¹⁰ but has now been revealed through the appearance of our Savior Jesus Christ, having nullified death on the one hand, and having brought to life immortality through the gospel on the other,

²⁷ By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the anger of the king; for he endured as seeing the Unseen One.

¹⁵ But when it was morning, the angels urged Lot, saying, Arise and take your wife, and your two daughters whom you have, and go forth; lest you also be destroyed with the iniquities of the city.

²³ The sun was risen upon the earth, when Lot entered into Zoar.

²⁵ And He saw that He prevailed not against him; and He touched the broad part of his thigh, and the broad part of Jacob's thigh was numbed in his wrestling with Him.

¹⁷ For I am ready for plagues, and my grief is continually before me.

² But to you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise, and healing shall be in His wings: and you shall go forth, and bound as young calves let loose from bonds.

⁷ And lest I exalt myself above measure by the excellence of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, that it might beat me, lest I exalt myself above measure.

⁹ And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

⁵ Therefore the priests of Dagon, and everyone that enters into the house of Dagon, do not tread upon the threshold of the house of Dagon in Azotus to this day, for they step over it.
