¹ And Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went forth to observe the daughters of the inhabitants. ² And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of the land, saw her, he took her and lay with her, and violated her. ³ And he was strongly attracted to the soul of Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young woman, and he spoke kindly to the young woman. ⁴ Shechem spoke to Hamor his father, saying, Take for me this young woman for a wife. ⁵ And Jacob heard that the son of Hamor had defiled Dinah his daughter (now his sons were with his herds in the plain). And Jacob was silent until they came. ⁶ And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob, to speak with him. ⁷ And the sons of Jacob came from the plain; and when they heard, the men were deeply pained, and it was very grievous to them, because the man had done a disgraceful thing in Israel, having lain with the daughter of Jacob, which ought not to be done. ⁸ And Hamor spoke to them, saying, Shechem my son has chosen your daughter in his heart; therefore give her to him for a wife, ⁹ and intermarry with us. Give us your daughters, and take our daughters for your sons. ¹⁰ And dwell in the midst of us; and behold, the land is spacious before you; dwell in it, and trade, and get possessions in it. ¹¹ And Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, I seek grace before you, and will give whatever you shall name. ¹² Multiply your demand of dowry very much, and I will give accordingly as you shall say to me, only you shall give to me this young woman for a wife. ¹³ And the sons of Jacob answered to Shechem and Hamor his father craftily, and spoke to them, because they had defiled Dinah their sister. ¹⁴ And Simeon and Levi, the brothers of Dinah, said to them, We shall not be able to do this thing, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised, for it is a reproach to us. ¹⁵ Only on these terms will we conform to you, and dwell among you, if you also will be as we are, in that every male of you be circumcised. ¹⁶ And we will give our daughters to you, and we will take of your daughters for wives to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will be as one race. ¹⁷ But if you will not heed us and be circumcised, we will take our daughter and depart. ¹⁸ And the words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor's son. ¹⁹ And the young man did not delay to do this thing, for he was much attached to Jacob's daughter, and he was the most honorable of all in his father's house. ²⁰ And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and spoke to the men of their city, saying, ²¹ These men are peaceable, let them dwell with us upon the land, and let them trade in it, and behold the land is extensive before them; we will take their daughters to us for wives, and we will give them our daughters. ²² Only on these terms will the men conform to us to dwell with us so as to be one people, if every male of us be circumcised, as they also are circumcised. ²³ And shall not their cattle and their herds, and their possessions, be ours? Only in this let us conform to them, and they will dwell with us. ²⁴ And all that went in at the gate of their city hearkened to Hamor and Shechem his son, and they were circumcised in the flesh of their foreskin, every male. ²⁵ And it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that the two sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each man took his sword, and came upon the city securely, and killed every male. ²⁶ And they killed Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of the house of Shechem, and went forth. ²⁷ But the sons of Jacob came upon the wounded, and ravaged the city in which they had defiled Dinah their sister. ²⁸ And they took their sheep, their oxen, and their donkeys, and all things that were in the city, and were in the plain. ²⁹ And they took captive all their people, and all their store, and their wives, and plundered both whatever things there were in the city, and whatever things there were in the houses. ³⁰ And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have made me hateful so that I should be evil to all the inhabitants of the land, both among the Canaanites and the Perizzites, and I am few in number; they will gather themselves against me and cut me in pieces, and I shall be utterly destroyed, and my house. ³¹ And they said, No, but shall they treat our sister as a harlot?

³⁴ And Esau was forty years old; and he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite.

⁴⁶ And Rebecca said to Isaac, I am weary of my life, because of the daughters of the sons of Heth; if Jacob shall take a wife of the daughters of this land, where then should I live?

⁶ And Esau saw that Isaac blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Mesopotamia of Syria as he blessed him, to take to himself a wife from there, and that he charged him, saying, You shall not take a wife of the daughters of the Canaanites;

¹³ And Leah said, I am blessed, for the women will pronounce me blessed; and she called his name Asher.

²⁷ But evil men said, Who is this man that shall save us? And they despised him, and brought him no gifts.

¹¹ And Samuel said to Jesse, Have you no more sons? And Jesse said, There is yet a little one; behold, he tends the flock. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him, for we may not sit down till he comes.

²² And Absalom spoke not to Amnon, neither good or bad, because Absalom hated Amnon, on account of his humbling of his sister Tamar.

⁹ I was dumb, and opened not my mouth; for You are He that made me.

²⁵ Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

²⁹ So he answered and said to his father, 'Lo, so many years I have been serving you and I never transgressed your commandment; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.

⁹ And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What is this that you have done to us? Have we sinned against you, that you have brought upon me and upon my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me a deed, which no one ought to do.

⁷ The sons, and the sons of his sons with him; his daughters, and the daughters of his daughters; and he brought all his seed into Egypt.

² Speak to the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin unwillingly before the Lord, in any of the commandments of the Lord concerning things which he ought not to do, and shall do some of them;

¹³ And if the whole congregation of Israel should trespass ignorantly, and a thing should escape the notice of the congregation, and they should do one thing forbidden of any of the commands of the Lord, which ought not to be done, and should transgress;

²⁷ And if a soul of the people of the land should sin unwillingly, in doing a thing contrary to any of the commandments of the Lord, which ought not to be done, and shall transgress,

²¹ then shall they bring out the young woman to the doors of her father's house, and shall stone her with stones, and she shall die; because she has wrought folly among the children of Israel, to defile the house of her father by harlotry: so you shall remove the evil one from among you.

¹⁷ There shall not be a harlot of the daughters of Israel, and there shall not be a fornicator of the sons of Israel; there shall not be an idolatress of the daughters of Israel, and there shall not be an initiated person of the sons of Israel.

¹⁵ And the man who shall be pointed out shall be burned with fire, and all that he has; because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and has done wickedness in Israel.

²² And they were comforting their heart, when behold, the men of the city, sons of transgressors, surrounded the house, knocking at the door. And they spoke to the old man, the owner of the house, saying, Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him. ²³ And the master of the house came out to them, and said, No, brothers, I beg you, do not act so wickedly, seeing this man has come into my house; do not commit this outrage.

⁶ And I laid hold of my concubine, and divided her in pieces, and sent the parts into every coast of the inheritance of the children of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and abomination in Israel.

¹² And she said to him, No, my brother, do not humble me, for it ought not to be so done in Israel; do not do this disgraceful thing! ¹³ And I, where shall I remove my reproach? And you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. And now, speak to the king, for surely he will not keep me from you.

²¹ And King David heard of all these things, and was very angry; but he did not grieve the spirit of his son Amnon, because he loved him, for he was his firstborn.

⁵ Your testimonies are made very sure; holiness becomes Your house, O Lord, forever.

¹⁸ Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits fornication sins against his own body.

²⁸ And if anyone should find a young virgin who has not been betrothed, and should force her and lie with her, and be found, ²⁹ the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the damsel fifty silver shekels, and she shall be his wife, because he has humbled her; he shall never be able to put her away.

²⁵ And Saul said, Thus shall you speak to David: The king wants no gift but one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to avenge himself on the kings enemies. Now Saul thought to cast him into the hands of the Philistines. ²⁶ And Saul's servants reported these words to David, and David was well pleased to become the son-in-law to the king. ²⁷ And David arose, and went, he and his men, and killed among the Philistines one hundred men. And he brought their foreskins, and he became the king's son-in-law, and Saul gave him Michal his daughter as a wife.

¹⁴ And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, saying, Restore me my wife Michal, whom I took for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.

³ And Sampson said to them, Even for once am I guiltless with regard to the Philistines, in that I do mischief among them.

²³ And it came to pass at the end of two whole years, that they were shearing sheep for Absalom in Baal Hazor, near Ephraim. And Absalom invited all the king's sons. ²⁴ And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold, your servant has a sheep-shearing; let now the king and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go, and let us not be burdensome to you. And he pressed him; but he would not go, but blessed him. ²⁶ And Absalom said to him, And if not, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with you? ²⁷ And Absalom pressed him, and he sent with him Amnon and all the king's sons; and Absalom made a banquet like the banquet of the king. ²⁸ And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, Take notice when the heart of Amnon shall be merry with wine, and I shall say to you, Smite Amnon, and kill him: fear not; for is it not I that command you? Be courageous, and be valiant. ²⁹ And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom commanded them. And all the sons of the king rose up, and they mounted every man his mule, and fled.

⁴ But you are all bad physicians, and healers of diseases.

⁷ Do you not speak before the Lord, and utter deceit before Him?

² Everyone has spoken vanity to his neighbor: their lips are deceitful, they have spoken with a double heart.

¹³ For the sin of his lips a sinner falls into snare, but a righteous man escapes from them. ^(12:13A) He whose looks are gentle shall be pitied, but he that contends in the gates will afflict souls.

¹⁸ Some wound as they speak, like swords, but the tongues of the wise heal. ¹⁹ True lips establish testimony, but a hasty witness has an unjust tongue. ²⁰ There is deceit in the heart of him that imagines evil, but they that love peace shall rejoice.

²⁸ Be not a false witness against your fellow citizen, neither exaggerate with your lips. ²⁹ Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that in which he has injured me.

²⁴ A weeping enemy promises all things with his lips, but in his heart he contrives deceit. ²⁵ Though your enemy intreat you with a loud voice, consent not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ He that hides enmity frames deceit, but being easily discerned, exposes his own sins in the public assemblies.

¹³ We have sinned, and dealt falsely, and revolted from our God; we have spoken unrighteous words, and have been disobedient; we have conceived and uttered from our heart unrighteous words.

² For the godly has perished from the earth; and there is none upright among men: they all quarrel even to blood: they grievously afflict everyone his neighbor.

¹³ saying, "Tell them, 'His disciples came at night and stole Him away while we were sleeping.'

¹⁹ Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord.

¹⁵ See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue that which is good, both for one another and for all.

¹¹ And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and you.

¹⁴ And the uncircumcised male, who shall not be circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin on the eighth day, that soul shall be utterly destroyed from his family, for he has broken My covenant.

² And about this time the Lord said to Joshua, Make for yourself stone knives of sharp stone, and sit down and circumcise the children of Israel the second time. ³ And Joshua made sharp knives of stone, and circumcised the children of Israel at the place called the "Hill of Foreskins." ⁴ And this is the way in which Joshua purified the children of Israel: as many as were born in the way, and as many as were uncircumcised of them that came out of Egypt, ⁵ all these Joshua circumcised; for forty-two years Israel wandered in the Wilderness of Mabdaris — ⁶ Wherefore most of the fighting men that came out of the land of Egypt were uncircumcised, who disobeyed the commandments of God; concerning whom also He determined that they should not see the land, which the Lord swore to give to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey. ⁷ And in their place He raised up their sons, whom Joshua circumcised, because they were uncircumcised, having been born by the way. ⁸ And when they had been circumcised, they rested there in the camp until they were healed. ⁹ And the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, On this day have I removed the reproach of Egypt from you; and he called the name of that place Gilgal.

⁶ And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armor, Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; perhaps the Lord may do something for us; for nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.

³⁶ Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, and the uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them! Shall I not go and kill him, and remove this day this reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised one, who has defied the army of the living God?

²⁰ Tell it not in Gath, and tell it not as glad tidings in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

⁷ And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said to his father, I will go now, and pay my vows, which I vowed to the Lord in Hebron.

⁹ And it was written in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth in a chief place among the people.

⁸ And having sent them to Bethlehem, he said, "Go and carefully search for the young Child, and as soon as you find Him, report back to me, so that I also may come and worship Him."

¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, and take along the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is about to seek the young Child to destroy Him."

¹ Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, ² saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat. ³ Therefore whatever they may say to you to observe, observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. ⁴ For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they do not desire to move them with their finger. ⁵ But all their works they do in order to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and they enlarge the borders of their garments. ⁶ They love the first couch in the suppers, and the best seats in the synagogues, ⁷ and greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.' ⁸ "But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brothers. ⁹ Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Neither be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. ¹¹ But the greatest of you shall be your servant. ¹² And whoever shall exalt himself will be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself will be exalted. ¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation. ¹⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the kingdom of heaven before men; for you do not enter, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. ¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you travel around land and sea to make one proselyte, and whenever he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you. ¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, is obligated.' ¹⁷ "Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, is obligated.' ¹⁹ "Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Therefore he that swears by the altar, swears by it and by all the things on it. ²¹ He that swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwelt in it. ²² And he that swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the more important things of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These things you should have done, and not have neglected the others. ²⁴ Blind guides, you who strain out a gnat, but swallow a camel! ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and unrighteousness. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and dish, so that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Thus also you outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. ²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, ³⁰ and say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' ³¹ "So that you testify against yourselves that you are sons of those who killed the prophets. ³² And you, fill up then, the measure of your fathers' guilt. ³³ Serpents! Brood of vipers! How shall you escape from the condemnation of hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and you will crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and you will persecute from city to city, ³⁵ so that on you may come all the righteous blood being shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you desolate. ³⁹ For I say to you, you shall by no means see Me from now until you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' "

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while in uncircumcision, so that he should be the father of all those that believe, although uncircumcised, so that righteousness should also be imputed to them, ¹² Brothers, I beseech you, become as I am, because I also am as you are. You have not wronged me at all.

²⁰ And Jacob served for Rachel seven years, and they seemed only a few days, because of the love that he had for her.

¹⁵ And Balak yet again sent more princes, and more honorable than they.

¹ Now Naaman, the captain of the army of Syria, was a great man before his master, and highly respected, because by him the Lord had given deliverance to Syria, and the man was mighty in strength, but he was a leper.

⁹ Now Jabez was more famous than his brethren; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, I have born him as a sorrowful one.

⁶ Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave, her shafts are shafts of fire, even the flames thereof.

³ the captain of fifty also, and the honorable counselor, and the wise artificer, and the intelligent hearer. ⁴ And I will make youths their princes, and mockers shall have dominion over them. ⁵ And the people shall fall, man upon man, and every man upon his neighbor; the child shall insult the elder man, and the base toward the honorable.

¹³ Therefore my people have been taken captive, because they know not the Lord; and there has been a multitude of dead bodies, because of hunger and of thirst for water.

⁸ Who has devised this counsel against Tyre. Is she inferior? Or has she no strength? Her merchants were the glorious princes of the earth. ⁹ The Lord of hosts has purposed to bring down all the pride of the glorious ones, and to disgrace every glorious thing on the earth.

⁴ And you shall no more be called Forsaken; and your land shall no more be called Desert; for you shall be called My Pleasure, and your land Inhabited; for the Lord has taken pleasure in you, and your land shall be inhabited.

⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the devout and prominent women and the leading men of the city, and raised up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out from their borders.

¹² Therefore many of them believed, and not a few of the prominent Greek women and men.

¹⁷ surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand which is by the shore of the sea, and your seed shall inherit the cities of their enemies.

¹⁰ They hated him that reproved in the gates, and abhorred holy speech.

¹² For I know your many transgressions, and your sins are great, trampling on the just, taking bribes, and turning aside the judgment of the poor in the gates.

¹⁵ We have hated evil, and loved good; restore judgment in the gates, so that the Lord God Almighty may have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.

¹⁶ These are the things which you shall do: speak truth everyone with his neighbor; judge truth and peaceable judgment in your gates:

¹² and let us swallow him alive, as Hades would, and remove the memorial of him from the earth: ¹³ let us seize on his valuable property, and let us fill our houses with spoils:

⁴ If you are poor, measure not yourself with a rich man, but refrain yourself in your wisdom. ⁵ If you should fix your eye upon him, he will disappear; for wings like an eagle's are prepared for him, and he returns to the house of his master.

²⁰ A man worthy of credit shall be much blessed, but the wicked shall not be unpunished.

¹⁶ And He said to those selling the doves, "Take these things away from here! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!"

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, "Most assuredly I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate from the loaves and were satisfied. ²⁷ Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for upon Him God the Father has set His seal."

²⁴ For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, providing no little trade for the craftsmen, ²⁵ whom he gathered, with the workers of similar occupation, and said: "Men, you know out of this trade is our prosperity. ²⁶ And you observe and hear that not only at Ephesus, but almost in all of Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great multitude, saying that they are not gods which are made by human hands.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that neither can we carry anything out! ⁸ But having food and clothing, with these things we shall be content. ⁹ But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many senseless and harmful lusts which sink men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some by aspiring have strayed away from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

²³ And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all his home-born servants, and all those bought with money, and every male of the men in the house of Abraham, and he circumcised their foreskins in the time of that day, according as God spoke to him.

¹⁸ to Abraham for a possession, before the sons of Heth, and all that entered into the city.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom; attend to the law of God, you people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ Of what value to Me is the abundance of your sacrifices? ⁶ Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in flesh; ²⁹ but he is a Jew that is one inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart, in spirit, not in letter, whose praise is not of men but of God.

¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God.

³³ And she conceived again, and bore a second son to Jacob; and she said, Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, He has given to me this one also; and she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived yet again, and bore a son, and said, In the present time my husband will be with me, for I have born him three sons; therefore she called his name Levi.

⁵ Simeon and Levi, brothers, accomplished the injustice of their cutting off. ⁶ Let not my soul come into their counsel, and let not my inward parts contend in their conspiracy, for in their wrath they slew men, and in their passion they hamstrung a bull. ⁷ Cursed be their wrath, for it was willful, and their anger, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

⁷ And they set themselves in array against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they killed every male.

¹⁷ Now then kill every male in all the spoil, kill every woman, who has known a man intimately.

⁶ Wherefore most of the fighting men that came out of the land of Egypt were uncircumcised, who disobeyed the commandments of God; concerning whom also He determined that they should not see the land, which the Lord swore to give to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁵ But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction:

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and magnify your name, and you shall be blessed.

²⁷ And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in the land of Egypt were nine persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came with Joseph into Egypt were seventy-five persons.

²¹ And they said to them, The Lord look upon you and judge you, for you have made our scent abominable before Pharaoh, and before his servants, to put a sword into his hands to kill us.

¹⁷ the likeness of any beast of those that are on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird which flies under heaven,

⁷ It is not because you are more numerous than all other nations that the Lord has preferred you, and the Lord has chosen you: for you are fewer in number than all other nations.

²⁵ And Joshua said to Achan, Why have you destroyed us? The Lord destroy you this day! And all Israel stoned him with stones.

⁴ And all Israel heard it said, Saul has smitten Nasib the Philistine; now Israel had been put to shame before the Philistines, and the children of Israel went up after Saul in Gilgal.

² And Samuel said, How can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me. And the Lord said, Take a heifer in your hand, and you shall say, I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.

¹ And David said in his heart, Now shall I be one day delivered for death into the hands of Saul; and there is nothing better for me unless I should escape into the land of the Philistines, and Saul should cease from seeking me through every coast of Israel. So I shall escape out of his hand.

¹² So David had the full confidence of Achish, who said, He is thoroughly disgraced among his people in Israel and he shall be my servant forever.

⁶ And the children of Ammon saw that the people of David were ashamed; and the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, and Rehob, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Amelek with a thousand men, and Ish-Tob with twelve thousand men.

¹⁸ And Elijah said, I do not pervert Israel; but it is you and your father's house, in that you forsake the Lord your God, and you have gone after the Baals.

⁷ And the son of Carmi was Achar the troubler of Israel, who was disobedient in the accursed thing.

¹² Remember His wonderful works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth;

¹⁹ when they were few in number, when they were but little, and dwelt as strangers in it;

¹⁷ A merciful man does good to his own soul, but the merciless destroys his own body.

²⁹ He that deals not graciously with his own house shall inherit the wind, and the fool shall be servant to the wise man.

²⁷ A receiver of bribes destroys himself, but he that hates the receiving of bribes is safe. ^(15:27A) By alms and by faithful dealings sins are purged away, but by the fear of the Lord everyone departs from evil.

¹⁸ who, contrary to hope, on hope believed, so that he should become a father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be." ¹⁹ And not weakening in faith, he did not consider his own body, already having been worn out (being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb, ²⁰ he did not waver at the promise of God in unbelief, but was empowered by faith, giving glory to God,

¹³ And the sons of Jacob answered to Shechem and Hamor his father craftily, and spoke to them, because they had defiled Dinah their sister.

⁷ Cursed be their wrath, for it was willful, and their anger, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.
