²⁶ The Lord has made you priest in the place of Jehoida the priest, to be ruler in the house of the Lord over every prophet, and to every madman, and you shall put them in prison, and into the dungeon.

¹ And if there arise within you a prophet, or one who dreams a dream, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder come to pass which he spoke to you, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you know not; ³ you shall not hearken to the words of that prophet, or the dreamer of that dream, because the Lord your God is testing you, to see whether you love your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall follow the Lord your God, and fear Him, and you shall hear His voice, and attach yourselves to Him. ⁵ And that prophet or that dreamer of a dream shall die; for he has spoken to make you err from the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, who redeemed you from bondage, to thrust you out of the way which the Lord your God commanded you to walk in. So shall you abolish the evil from among you.

¹¹ And Jehu went forth to the servants of his master, and they said to him, Is all well? Why has this madman come to you? And he said to them, You know the man, and his babble.

¹⁵ And Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds who were over the army, and said to them, Take her outside under guard, and he that goes in after her shall certainly die by the sword. For the priest said, Let her not, however, be slain in the house of the Lord.

¹⁸ And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal and tore it down, and completely broke in pieces his altars and his images, and they slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed overseers over the house of the Lord.

¹⁰ And Asa was angry with the prophet, and put him in prison, for he was angry at this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time.

⁶ And they cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which was in the court of the prison; and they let him down into the pit: and there was no water in the pit, but mire. And he was in the mire.

²⁸ And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison, until the time when Jerusalem was taken.

⁷ The days of vengeance have come, the days of your recompense have come; and Israel shall be afflicted as the prophet that is mad, as a man deranged. By reason of the multitude of your iniquities your madness has abounded.

³ And it shall come to pass, if a man will yet prophesy, that his father and his mother which gave birth to him shall say to him, You shall not live; for you have spoken lies in the name of the Lord: and his father and his mother who gave him birth shall bind him as he is prophesying. ⁴ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed, everyone of his vision, when he prophesies; and they shall clothe themselves with a garment of hair, because they have lied. ⁵ And one shall say, I am not a prophet, but I am a farmer, for a man brought me up thus from my youth. ⁶ And I will say to him, What are these wounds between your hands? And he shall say, Those with which I was wounded in my beloved house.

²³ Now as He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?"

²¹ But when His relatives heard, they came out to seize Him, for they were saying, "He has lost His mind."

⁵³ "Are You greater than our father Abraham, who died? Also the prophets died. Whom do You make Yourself out to be?"

²⁰ And many of them said, "He has a demon and is raving mad. Why do you listen to Him?"

³³ The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."

¹ Now while they were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,

¹⁸ and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the public custody.

²⁴ Now when they heard these words, both the high priest and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests, they were greatly perplexed about them, as to what would come of this.

²⁴ who, having received such a command, cast them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

¹¹ And I punished them often in all the synagogues, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even as far as to foreign cities.

²⁴ Now as he spoke these things, Festus said with a loud voice, "You are mad, Paul! Your higher learning is driving you to madness!"

¹³ For if we were beside ourselves, it was for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you. ¹⁴ For the love of Christ compels us, having concluded this: that if One died for all, then all died; ¹⁵ and He died for all, so that they who live should live no longer for themselves, but for the One who died for them and rose again.

³³ but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped from his hands.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which you are about to suffer. Behold indeed, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
