⁵ if even his life should be but one day upon the earth, and his months are numbered by him: You have appointed him for a time, and he shall by no means exceed it.

¹ Is not the life of man upon earth a state of trial? And his existence as that of a hireling by the day?

¹⁰ Seeing that the life of all living things is in His hand, and the breath of every man.

¹⁴ For if a man should die, shall he live again, having accomplished the days of his life? I will wait till I exist again.

²¹ For his desire is in his house with him, and the number of his months has been suddenly cut off.

⁴ O Lord, make me to know my end, and the number of my days, what it is; that I may know what I lack.

⁹ You have set a boundary which they shall not pass, neither shall they turn again to cover the earth.

²⁹ But when You have turned away Your face, they shall be troubled; You will take away their breath, and they shall fail, and return to their dust.

³⁵ All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and He does according to His will in the host of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and there is none who shall withstand His power, and say to Him, What have You done?

²⁶ This is the interpretation of the sentence: Mene; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it.
