^{12 (16:13)} When I was at peace He distracted me: He took me by the hair of the head, and plucked it out: He set me up as a mark.

² And he had seven sons and three daughters. ³ And his substance consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east.

²⁶ I was not at peace, nor quiet, nor had I rest; yet wrath came upon me.

¹⁰ The strength of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the exulting cry of serpents are quenched.

¹² Am I a sea, or a serpent, that you have set a watch over me?

²⁰ If I have sinned, what shall I be able to do, O You that understand the mind of men? why have You made me as Your accuser, and why am I a burden to You?

¹⁷ Let Him not crush me with a dark storm: but He has made my bruises many without cause.

²⁶ And he has run against Him with insolence, on the thickness of the back of his shield.

³ As when His lamp shone over my head; when by His light I walked through darkness.

¹⁸ And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm tree; I shall live a long while. ¹⁹ My root was spread out by the water, and the dew would lodge on my crop.

¹⁹ For You have laid us low in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.

⁴ He has made old my flesh and my skin; He has broken my bones.

¹¹ He pursued me after I departed, and brought me to a stand; He has utterly ruined me. ¹² ( { δ}) HE. He has bent His bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

⁷ When they took hold of you with their hand, you broke them; and when every hand was clapped against them, and when they leaned on you, you utterly broke them, and crushed the loins of them all.

⁴⁴ And he who falls on this Stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."
