¹ And Elihu further continued, and said, ² Bear with me yet a little while, that I may teach you: for there is yet speech in me. ³ Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works, ⁴ I will speak just things truly, and you shall not unjustly receive unjust words. ⁵ But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom, ⁶ He will not by any means preserve the life of the ungodly, and He will grant the judgment of the poor. ⁷ He will not turn away His eyes from the righteous, but they shall be with kings on the throne, and He will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted. ⁸ But they that are bound in fetters shall be held in cords of poverty. ⁹ And He shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence. ¹⁰ But He will listen to the righteous, and He has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness. ¹¹ If they should hear and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honor. ¹² But He preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because, when reproved, they were disobedient. ¹³ And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath against themselves; they will not cry, because He has bound them. ¹⁴ Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers of death. ¹⁵ Because they afflicted the weak and helpless, and He will vindicate the judgment of the meek. ¹⁶ And He has also enticed you out of the mouth of the enemy: ¹⁷ there is a deep gulf and a rushing stream beneath it, and your table came down full of fatness. Judgment shall not fail from the righteous, ¹⁸ but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities. ¹⁹ Let not your mind willingly turn you aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress. ²⁰ And draw not forth all the mighty men by night, so that the people should go up instead of them. ²¹ But take heed, lest you do that which is wrong: for of this you have chosen rather than poverty. ²² Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by His strength, for who is as powerful as He is? ²³ And who is he that examines His works? Or who can say, He has done injustice? ²⁴ Remember that His works are great beyond those which men have attempted. ²⁵ Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded. ²⁶ Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know Him: the number of His years is infinite. ²⁷ And the drops of rain are numbered by Him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud. ²⁸ The ancient heavens shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: ^(36:28A) He has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. ^(36:28B) Yet by all these things your understanding is not astonished, neither is your mind disturbed in your body. ²⁹ And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, or the measure of His tabernacle; ³⁰ behold, He will stretch His bow against him, and He covers the bottom of the sea. ³¹ For by them He will judge the nations: He will give food to him that has strength. ³² He has hidden the light in His hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing cloud. ³³ The Lord will declare concerning this to His friend: but there is a portion also for unrighteousness.

¹⁶ And he shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be for him in things pertaining to God.

⁷ Do you not speak before the Lord, and utter deceit before Him? ⁸ Or will you draw back? Nay do, you yourselves be judges.

³ Raise me, and I will speak; then you shall not laugh me to scorn.

⁶ You are formed out of the clay as I also: we have been formed out of the same substance.

³¹ Give ear, Job, and hear me: be silent, and I will speak. ³² If you have words, answer me: speak, for I desire you to be justified. ³³ If not, listen to me: be silent, and I will teach you.

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord: If you will return, then will I restore you, and you shall stand before My face. And if you will bring forth the precious from the worthless, you shall be as My mouth; and they shall return to you; but you shall not return to them.

⁷ And you shall speak My words to them, whether they will hear or fear; for they are a provoking house.

²⁰ Now then, we serve as ambassadors for Christ, as though God were appealing through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

²² And I appeal to you, brothers, bear with the word of exhortation, for briefly I wrote to you.

⁴ As for God, His works are true, and all His ways are judgment: God is faithful, and there is no unrighteousness in Him; just and holy is the Lord.

³ Will the Lord be unjust when He judges; or will He that has made all things pervert justice?

¹² But where has wisdom been discovered? And where is the place of understanding? ¹³ A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered among men.

²⁰ Where then is wisdom found? And of what kind is the place of understanding? ²¹ It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it. ²³ God has well ordered the way of it, and He knows the place of it. ²⁴ For He surveys the whole earth under heaven, knowing the things in the earth;

² Then Elihu the son of Barachiel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, of the land of Uz, was angered: and he was very angry with Job, because he justified himself before the Lord.

⁸ but there is a spirit in mortals, and the inspiration of the Almighty is that which teaches.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous: the Lord has removed my judgment.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me, you that are wise in heart: far be it from me to sin before the Lord, and to pervert righteousness before the Almighty. ¹¹ Yea, He renders to a man accordingly as each of them does, and in a man's path He will find him. ¹² And do you think that the Lord will do wrong, or will the Almighty who made the earth pervert judgment?

²³ and we do not find another His equal in strength: as for Him that judges justly, do you not think that He listens?

⁷ For the Lord is righteous, and loves righteousness; His face beholds uprightness.

¹⁷ The Lord is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.

⁴ and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures; ⁵ then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

¹ Righteous are You, O Lord, that I may make my defense to You: yet I will speak to You of judgments. Why is it that the way of the ungodly prospers? And all that deal very treacherously are flourishing?

⁷ To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, and to us confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, to them that are near, and to them that are far off in all the earth, wherever You have scattered them, for the sin which they have committed.

¹⁴ The Lord also has watched, and brought these evils upon us: for the Lord our God is righteous in all His work which He has executed, but we have not heeded His voice.

¹ Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East arrived in Jerusalem, ² saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East, and have come to worship Him."

⁴² The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and she shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

²⁷ And arising, he went; and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, a court official of Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem worshipping, ²⁸ and he was returning. And sitting upon his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah. ²⁹ Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot." ³⁰ And Phillip, running up to it, heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Indeed, do you know what you are reading?" ³¹ And he said, "How can I, if not someone guides me?" And he urged Philip to come up and sit with him. ³² Now the portion of the Scripture which he was reading was this: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, thus He opened not His mouth. ³³ In His humiliation His justice was taken away, and who will recount His generation? For His life is taken away from the earth." ³⁴ So the eunuch answered Philip and said, "I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this; about himself, or about some other person?" ³⁵ And Philip, opening his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached the good news about Jesus to him. ³⁶ Now as they were going down the road, they came upon some water. And the eunuch said, "Behold, here is water: what prevents me from being baptized?" ³⁷ (OMITTED TEXT) ³⁸ And he ordered the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, both Phillip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. ³⁹ Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught up Philip, and the eunuch did not see him any longer; and he went on his way rejoicing. ⁴⁰ But Philip was found at Azotus. And going through, he preached the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.

²⁵ whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for a demonstration of His righteousness through the passing over of the sins having previously occurred, in the forbearance of God, ²⁶ for a demonstration of His righteousness in the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of he who is of the faith of Jesus.

¹⁴ What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Absolutely not!

⁶ But the righteousness of faith says thus, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who shall ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down) ⁷ or, " 'Who shall descend into the abyss?' " (that is, to bring up Christ from the dead). ⁸ But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we proclaim):

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

³ And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Righteous and true are Your ways, O King of the nations!

⁴ But you are all bad physicians, and healers of diseases.

⁷ Do you not speak before the Lord, and utter deceit before Him?

²⁷ So I know you, that you presumptuously attack me,

³⁴ How then do you comfort me in vain? Since I have no rest from your molestation.

⁶ And you have taken the security of your brethren for nothing, and have taken away the clothing of the naked. ⁷ Neither have you given water to the thirsty to drink, but have taken away the morsel of the hungry. ⁸ And you have accepted the persons of some; and you have established those that were already settled on the earth. ⁹ But you have sent widows away empty, and have afflicted orphans. ¹⁰ Therefore snares have surrounded you, and disastrous war has troubled you. ¹¹ The light has proved darkness to you, and water has covered you on your lying down. ¹² Does not He that dwells in the high places observe? And has He not brought down the proud? ¹³ And you have said, What does the Mighty One know? Does He judge in the dark? ¹⁴ A cloud is His hiding place, and He shall not be seen; and He passes through the circle of heaven. ¹⁵ Will you not mark the old way, which righteous men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were seized before their time — their foundations are as an overflowing stream. ¹⁷ Who say, What will the Lord do to us? Or what will the Almighty bring upon us? ¹⁸ Yet He filled their houses with good things, but the counsel for the wicked is far from Him. ¹⁹ The righteous have seen it, and laughed, and the blameless one has derided them. ²⁰ Verily their substance has been utterly destroyed, and the fire shall devour what is left of their property. ²¹ Be firm, I pray, if you can endure; then your fruit shall prosper. ²² And receive a declaration from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart. ²³ And if you shall turn and humble yourself before the Lord, you have thus removed unrighteousness far from your habitation. ²⁴ You shall lay up for yourself treasure in a heap on the rock; and Ophir shall be as the rock of the torrent. ²⁵ So the Almighty shall be your helper from enemies, and He shall bring you forth as pure as silver that has been tried by fire. ²⁶ Then shall you have boldness before the Lord, looking up cheerfully to heaven. ²⁷ And He shall hear you when you pray to Him, and He shall grant you power to pay your vows. ²⁸ And He shall establish to you again a habitation of righteousness, and there shall be light upon your paths. ²⁹ Because you have humbled yourself, and you shall say, Man has behaved proudly, but He shall save him that is of lowly eyes. ³⁰ He shall deliver the innocent, and do you save yourself by your pure hands.

³ My heart shall be found pure by my words; and the understanding of my lips shall meditate purity.

¹⁶ And He knows the divisions of the clouds, and the signal overthrows of the ungodly.

³ My mouth shall speak of wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall bring forth understanding.

⁷ For my mouth shall meditate truth, and false lips are an abomination before me. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing in them wrong or perverse.

²⁰ And record them repeatedly for yourself on the table of your heart, for counsel and knowledge. ²¹ I therefore teach you truth, and knowledge good to hear, that you may answer words of truth to them that question you.

³ it seemed good also to me, having investigated from the first all things carefully, to write to you in orderly fashion, most distinguished Theophilus,

²² And when he heard these things, Felix adjourned them, knowing more accurately the things concerning the Way, and said, "When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case."

²⁰ Brothers, do not be children in your understanding; rather, in malice be children, but in understanding be men.

¹⁷ For we are not as the rest, corrupting the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

¹² Epaphras greets you, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, always struggling for you in his prayers, that you may stand mature and complete in all the will of God.

¹⁶ All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be proficient, having been thoroughly equipped for every good work.

¹⁴ Oh then that He would listen to me, or judge my cause.

¹⁹ For indeed He is strong in power: who then shall resist His judgment?

³ Is it good before You if I am unrighteous? For You have disowned the work of Your hands, and attended to the counsel of the ungodly.

¹³ With Him are wisdom and power, with Him counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ If He should cast down, who will build up? If He should shut up against man, who shall open? ¹⁵ If He should withhold the water, He will dry the earth: and if He should let it loose, He overthrows and destroys it. ¹⁶ With Him are strength and power: He has knowledge and understanding.

¹² He has calmed the sea with His might, and by His wisdom the whale has been overthrown. ¹³ And the barriers of heaven fear Him, and by a command He has slain the apostate dragon. ¹⁴ Behold, these are parts of His way; and we will hearken to Him at the least intimation of His word: but who knows the strength of His thunder, when He shall employ it?

¹³ And if I also despised the judgment of my servant or my handmaid, when they pleaded with me;

²⁴ For He has not despised nor been angry at the supplication of the poor; nor turned away His face from Me; but when I cried to Him, He heard Me.

⁴ And the king's honor loves judgment; You have prepared equity, You have established judgment and justice in Jacob.

⁶ For the Lord is on high, and yet regards the lowly; and He knows high things from afar off.

⁵ Great is our Lord, and great is His strength; and His understanding is infinite.

¹² It is the Lord that made the earth by His strength, who set up the world by His wisdom, and by His understanding stretched out the sky,

¹⁹ the Lord of great counsel, and mighty in deeds, the Great Almighty God, and Lord of great name. Your eyes are upon the ways of the children of men, to give to everyone according to his way;

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. ²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many powerful, not many noble, are called. ²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty. ²⁸ And the base things of the world, and the things having been despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, in order that He might nullify the things which are,

²² You shall hurt no widow or orphan. ²³ And if you should afflict them by ill treatment, and they should cry aloud to Me, I will surely hear their voice. ²⁴ And I will be very angry, and will slay you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows and your children orphans.

¹⁵ And let them perish in war, and let the weak escape from the hand of the mighty.

²² But their adversaries shall clothe themselves with shame; and the habitation of the ungodly shall perish.

⁷ Why do the ungodly live, and grow old even in wealth? ⁸ Their seed is according to their desire, and their children are in their sight. ⁹ Their houses are prosperous, and safe from fear, neither is the rod of the Lord upon them.

³⁰ For the wicked hastens to the day of destruction: they shall be led away for the day of His vengeance.

¹² For I saved the poor out of the hand of the oppressor, and helped the fatherless who had no helper. ¹³ Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me; yea, the mouth of the widow has blessed me. ¹⁴ Also I put on righteousness, and clothed myself with judgment like a mantle. ¹⁵ I was the eye of the blind, and the foot of the lame. ¹⁶ I was the father of the helpless, and I searched out the cause which I knew not. ¹⁷ And I broke the fangs of the wicked; I plucked the spoil out of the midst of their teeth.

¹² For He remembered them, in making inquisition for blood; He has not forgotten the supplication of the poor.

¹⁴ You see it; for You observe trouble and wrath, to deliver them into Your hands; the poor has been left to You; You are a helper to the orphan. ¹⁵ Break the arm of the sinner and wicked man: his sin shall be sought for, and shall not be found.

²³ But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; bloody and crafty men shall not live out half their days; but I will hope in You, O Lord.

⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people in righteousness, and save the children of the needy; and shall bring low the false accuser.

¹² For He has delivered the poor from the oppressor; and the needy who had no helper. ¹³ He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall deliver the souls of the needy. ¹⁴ He shall redeem their souls from oppression and injustice, and their name shall be precious before Him.

¹ A Psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of gods; and in the midst of them will judge gods. ² How long will you judge unrighteously, and accept the persons of sinners? Pause. ³ Judge the orphan and poor; do justice to the low and needy. ⁴ Rescue the needy, and deliver the poor out of the hand of the sinner.

¹² I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the poor, and the right of the needy ones.

²² Do no violence to the poor, for he is needy, neither dishonor the helpless man in the gates. ²³ For the Lord will plead his cause, and you shall deliver your soul in safety.

⁴ but He shall judge the cause of the lowly, and shall reprove the lowly of the earth; and He shall smite the earth with the word of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips shall He destroy the ungodly one.

¹ Righteous are You, O Lord, that I may make my defense to You: yet I will speak to You of judgments. Why is it that the way of the ungodly prospers? And all that deal very treacherously are flourishing? ² You have planted them, and they have taken root; they have begotten children, and become fruitful; You are near to their mouth, but far from their mind.

⁹ then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and how to keep the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,

⁶ but hear us; you are in the midst of us a prince of God; bury your dead in our choice tombs, for none of us will by any means withhold his tomb from you, so that you should not bury your dead there.

⁴⁰ You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be obedient to your word; only in the throne will I excel you.

⁸ He lifts up the poor from the earth, and raises the needy from the dunghill; to seat him with the princes of the people, and causing them to inherit the throne of glory;

¹³ He shall build for Me a house for My name, and I will set up his throne, even forever. ¹⁴ I will be to him a father, and he shall be to Me a son. And when he happens to transgress, then will I chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of men. ¹⁵ But My mercy I will not take from him, as I took it from those whom I removed from My presence. ¹⁶ And his house shall be made sure, and his kingdom forever before Me, and his throne shall be established forever.

⁹ For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout all the earth, to strengthen every heart that is perfect toward Him. In this you have done foolishly; henceforth there shall be war with you.

³ And Mordecai was second to King Artaxerxes, and was a great man in the kingdom, and honored by the Jews, and passed his life beloved of all his nation. And Mordecai said, These things have been done by God. For I remember the dream which I had concerning these matters. For not one particular of them has failed. There was the little fountain, which became a river, and there was a light, and the sun, and much water. The river is Esther, whom the king married, and made queen. And the two serpents are Haman and myself. And the nations are those that combined to destroy the name of the Jews. But as for my nation, this is Israel, even they that cried to God, and were delivered: for the Lord delivered His people, and the Lord rescued us out of all these calamities; and God wrought such signs and great wonders as have not been done among the nations. Therefore did He ordain two lots, one for the people of God, and one for all the other nations. And these two lots came for an appointed season, and for a day of judgment before God, and for all the nations. And God remembered His people, and vindicated His inheritance. And they shall observe these days, in the month of Adar, on the fourteenth and on the fifteenth day of the month, with an assembly, and joy and gladness before God, throughout the generations forever among His people Israel. In the fourth year of the reign of Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus, who said that he was a priest and a Levite, and Ptolemy his son, brought in the published letter of Purim, which they said existed, and which Lysimachus the son of Ptolemy who was in Jerusalem, had interpreted.

³ And his substance consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east.

¹² And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than the beginning: and his livestock consisted of fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys of the pastures.

¹⁸ Behold, the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear Him, those that hope in His mercy;

¹⁵ The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer;

⁷⁰ He chose David also His servant, and took him up from the flocks of sheep. ⁷¹ He took him from following the ewes great with young, to be the shepherd of Jacob His servant, and Israel His inheritance. ⁷² So he tended them in the innocence of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

⁷ He shall not be afraid of any evil report; his heart is ready to trust in the Lord. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not fear, till he shall see his desire upon his enemies. ⁹ He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor. ¹⁰ The sinner shall see and be angry, he shall gnash his teeth, and consume away; the desire of the sinner shall perish.

⁷ who lifts up the poor from the earth, and raises up the needy from the dunghill; ⁸ to set him with princes, even with the princes of His people;

¹⁷ The Lord your God is in you; the Mighty One shall save you: He shall bring joy upon you, and shall refresh you with His love; and He shall rejoice over you with delight as in a day of feasting.

³ But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and will guard you from the evil one.

¹² For the eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears open to their prayer; but the face of the LORD is against those doing evil."

²⁷ And You have placed my foot in the stocks, and You have watched all my works, and have penetrated my heels.

⁶ Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled me, and has raised His bulwark against me.

¹⁸ He spares also his soul from death, and does not allow him to fall in war. ¹⁹ And again, He chastens him with sickness on his bed, and the multitude of his bones are pained.

⁵ The pangs of hell came round about me: the snares of death prevented me.

¹⁰ even them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death, fettered in poverty and irons;

³ The pangs of death compassed me; the dangers of hell found me; I found affliction and sorrow.

²² Iniquities ensnare a man, and everyone is bound in the chains of his own sins.

⁹ ( { γ}) DALETH. He has built up my ways, He has hedged my paths;

²¹ And the Lord God was angry with me for the things said by you, and swore that I should not go over this Jordan, and that I should not enter into the land, which the Lord your God has given you for an inheritance. ²² For I am to die in this land, and shall not pass over this Jordan; but you are to pass over, and shall inherit this good land.

¹¹ And the Lord brought upon them the captains of the armies of the king of Assyria, and they took Manasseh in bonds, and bound him in fetters, and brought him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was afflicted, he sought the face of the Lord his God, and was greatly humbled before the face of the God of his fathers; ¹³ and he prayed to Him. And He hearkened to him, and listened to his cry, and brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom. And Manasseh knew that the Lord, He is God.

² And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and wherefore have You thus judged me?

²⁵ For he has lifted his hands against the Lord, and he has hardened his neck against the Almighty Lord.

¹⁰ Judge them, O God; let them fail of their counsels: cast them out according to the abundance of their ungodliness; for they have provoked You, O Lord.

¹² Blessed is the man whom You shall chasten, O Lord, and shall teach him out of Your law;

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted, I transgressed; therefore have I kept Your word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that You have afflicted me; that I might learn Your statutes.

¹² For our iniquity is great before You, and our sins have risen up against us; for our iniquities are in us, and we know our unrighteous deeds.

³⁹ ( { ξ}) MEM. Why should a living man complain, a man concerning his sin? ⁴⁰ ( { π}) NUN. Our way has been searched out and examined, and we will turn to the Lord.

²⁸ and has turned away from all his ungodliness which he has committed: he shall surely live, he shall not die. ²⁹ Yet the house of Israel says, The way of the Lord is not right. Is not My way right, O house of Israel? Is not your way wrong? ³⁰ I will judge you, O house of Israel, says the Lord, each one according to his way: be converted, and turn from all your ungodliness, and it shall not become to you the punishment of iniquity. ³¹ Cast away from yourselves all your ungodliness in which you have sinned against Me; and make to yourselves a new heart and a new spirit: for why should you die, O house of Israel?

¹⁷ But having come to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have an abundance of bread, and I am perishing with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, ¹⁹ and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants." '

²⁰ But the law came in alongside, so that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace superabounded,

³² But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, in order that we may not be condemned with the world.

¹⁵ Faithful is this word, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first.

¹³ And the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, even by the hand of all His prophets, and of every seer, saying, Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My ordinances, and all the law which I commanded your fathers, and all that I sent to them by the hand of My servants the prophets.

¹⁶ then He opens the understanding of men: He scares them with such fearful visions; ¹⁷ to turn a man from unrighteousness, and He delivers his body from a fall. ¹⁸ He spares also his soul from death, and does not allow him to fall in war. ¹⁹ And again, He chastens him with sickness on his bed, and the multitude of his bones are pained. ²⁰ And he shall not be able to take any food, though his soul shall desire meat; ²¹ until his flesh shall be consumed, and he shall show his bones bare. ²² His soul also draws near to death, and his life is in Hades. ²³ Though there should be a thousand messengers of death, not one of them shall wound him: if he should purpose in his heart to turn to the Lord, and declare to man his fault, and show his folly;

¹⁵ Because they afflicted the weak and helpless, and He will vindicate the judgment of the meek.

⁶ Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; but a body You have prepared for me; whole burnt offering and sacrifice for sin You did not require.

²² So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and have become subject to reproofs. ²³ Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech.

⁴ You, O men, I exhort; and utter my voice to the sons of men. ⁵ O you simple, understand prudence, and you that are untaught, take in knowledge.

⁴ Whoever is foolish, let him turn aside to me: and to them that want understanding she says, ⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink wine which I have mingled for you. ⁶ Forsake folly, that you may reign forever; and seek wisdom, and improve understanding by knowledge.

¹⁶ Wash, and be clean; remove your iniquities from your souls before My eyes; cease from your iniquities; ¹⁷ learn to do well; diligently seek judgment, deliver him that is suffering wrong, plead for the orphan, and obtain justice for the widow. ¹⁸ And come, let us reason together, says the Lord; and though your sins be as purple, I will make them white as snow; and though they be as scarlet, I will make them white as wool. ¹⁹ And if you are willing, and hearken to Me, you shall eat the good of the land; ²⁰ but if you be not willing, nor hearken to Me, a sword shall devour you; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken this.

⁸ You have neither known, nor understood, neither from the beginning have I opened your ears; for I knew that you would surely deal treacherously, and would be called a transgressor even from the womb.

¹⁷ Thus says the Lord that delivered you, the Holy One of Israel; I am your God, I have shown you how you should find the way in which you should walk.

⁵ and the instruction of the Lord, even the Lord, opens my ears, and I do not disobey, nor dispute.

⁶ Seek the Lord, and when you find Him, call upon Him; and when He draws near to you, ⁷ let the ungodly leave his ways, and the transgressor his counsels; and let him return to the Lord, and he shall find mercy; for He shall abundantly pardon your sins.

³ For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Break up fresh ground for yourselves, and sow not among thorns. ⁴ Circumcise yourselves to your God, and circumcise your hardness of heart, you men of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest My wrath go forth as fire, and burn, and there be none to quench it, because of the evil of your devices.

³ Thus says the Lord God of Israel: Correct your ways and your devices, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. ⁴ Trust not in yourselves with lying words, for they shall not profit you at all, saying, It is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord. ⁵ For if you thoroughly correct your ways and your practices, and do indeed execute judgment between a man and his neighbor; ⁶ and oppress not the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, and go not after strange gods to your hurt; ⁷ then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land which I gave to your fathers of old, and forever.

¹ Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God; for the people have fallen through your iniquities.

⁸ Therefore produce fruits worthy of repentance,

¹⁹ Repent therefore and turn back, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that seasons of relaxation may come from the presence of the Lord,

¹⁴ And a certain woman named Lydia, a dealer of purple cloth of the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God, heard us, whose heart The Lord opened to give heed to the things spoken by Paul.

³⁰ So then these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands all men everywhere to repent,

⁸ Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

³⁰ And all these things shall come upon you in the last days, and you shall turn to the Lord your God, and shall hearken to His voice.

¹³ For if you have made your heart pure, and lifted up your hands towards Him; ¹⁴ if there is any iniquity in your hands, put if far from you, and let not unrighteousness lodge in your habitation. ¹⁵ For thus shall your countenance shine again as pure water; and you shall divest yourself of uncleanness, and shall not fear. ¹⁶ And you shall forget trouble, as a wave that has passed by; and you shall not be scared. ¹⁷ And your prayer shall be as the morning star, and life shall arise to you as from the noonday. ¹⁸ And you shall be confident, because you have hope, and peace shall dawn to you from out of anxiety and care. ¹⁹ For you shall be at ease, and there shall be no one to fight against you, and many shall charge, and make supplication to you.

¹¹ And they remain as an unfailing flock, and their children play before them, taking up the psaltery and harp;

²¹ Be firm, I pray, if you can endure; then your fruit shall prosper.

²³ And if you shall turn and humble yourself before the Lord, you have thus removed unrighteousness far from your habitation.

² Vanity is in all. There is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good, and to the bad; both to the pure, and to the impure; both to him that sacrifices, and to him that does not sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; as is the swearer, even so is he that fears an oath. ³ There is this evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all. Yea, the heart of the sons of men is filled with evil, and madness is in their heart during their life, and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁹ And if you are willing, and hearken to Me, you shall eat the good of the land;

²³ but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hear My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all My ways which I shall command you, that it may be well with you.

¹³ And now amend your ways and your works, and hearken to the voice of the Lord, and the Lord shall relent from the doom which He has pronounced against you.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that though you used to be slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from your heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

⁸ By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go forth to the place which he was about to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

⁵ You lived luxuriously upon the earth and you lived riotously, you nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

⁷ In as many things as she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give to her torment and sorrow; because she says in her heart, 'I sit as queen, and am not a widow, and I shall by no means see sorrow.'

¹⁵ The Lord your God shall raise up to you a Prophet from among your brethren, like me; Him shall you hear, ¹⁶ according to all the things which you desired from the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, We will not again hear the voice of the Lord your God, and we will not anymore see this great fire, lest we die. ¹⁷ And the Lord said to me, They have spoken rightly, all that they have said to you. ¹⁸ I will raise up to them a Prophet from among their brethren, like you; and I will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them as I shall command Him. ¹⁹ And whoever shall not hearken to all the words that the Prophet shall speak in My name, I will take vengeance on him. ²⁰ But whichever prophet that shall impiously speak in My name a word which I have not commanded him to speak, and whosoever shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. ²¹ But if you shall say in your heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken? ²² Whatever words that prophet shall speak in the name of the Lord, and they shall not come true, and not come to pass, this is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; that prophet has spoken wickedly: you shall not spare him.

¹⁵ but to those also who are here with you today before the Lord your God, and to those who are not here with you today. ¹⁶ For you know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, how we came through the midst of the nations through whom you came. ¹⁷ And you beheld their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which are among them. ¹⁸ Lest there be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart has turned aside from the Lord your God, having gone to serve the gods of these nations; lest there be in you a root springing up with gall and bitterness. ¹⁹ And it shall be if one shall hear the words of this curse, and shall flatter himself in his heart, saying, Let good happen to me, for I will walk in the error of my heart, lest the sinner destroy the guiltless with him: ²⁰ God shall by no means be willing to pardon him, but then the wrath of the Lord and His jealousy shall flame out against that man; and all the curses of this covenant shall attach themselves to him, which are written in this book, and the Lord shall blot out his name from under heaven.

²¹ For He blows upon them, and they are withered: they have perished for lack of wisdom.

²² Let him not trust that he shall return from darkness, for he has been already made over to the power of the sword.

²⁰ but if you be not willing, nor hearken to Me, a sword shall devour you; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken this.

¹¹ Woe to the transgressor! Evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come." ²² So the Jews said, "Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, 'Where I am going you cannot come'?" ²³ And He said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world. ²⁴ Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins."

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and who disobey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, ⁹ ~ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that works evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;

¹⁴ Behold, you have risen up in the room of your fathers, a combination of sinful men, to increase yet farther the fierce wrath of the Lord against Israel.

¹³ and said to them, You shall not bring the prisoners here to us, for whereas sin against the Lord is already upon us, and you mean to add to our sins, and to our trespass: for our sin is great, and the fierce anger of the Lord is upon Israel.

²² but only troubled him in his affliction. And he departed yet again from the Lord, and King Ahaz said,

⁴ Have you not cast off fear, and accomplished such words before the Lord?

⁸ For what is the hope of the ungodly, that he holds to it? Will he indeed trust in the Lord and be saved? ⁹ Will God hear his prayer? Or when distress has come upon him, ¹⁰ has he any confidence before Him? Or will God hear him as he calls upon Him?

⁹ They that are oppressed of a multitude will be ready to cry out; they will call for help because of the arm of many. ¹⁰ But none said, Where is God that made me, who appoints the night watches;

⁸ But they that are bound in fetters shall be held in cords of poverty.

¹² So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding clothes?' And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up hands and feet, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God,

⁵ And they called out Lot, and said to him, Where are the men that came to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may be with them.

²⁴ And the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. ²⁵ And He overthrew these cities, and all the country round about, and all that dwelt in the cities, and the plants springing out of the ground.

⁷ And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was wicked before the Lord; and God killed him. ⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her as her brother-in-law, and raise up seed to your brother. ⁹ And Onan, knowing that the seed would not be his — and it came to pass when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled it upon the ground, so that he should not give seed to his brother's wife. ¹⁰ And his doing this appeared evil before God; and He killed him also.

¹ And the two sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, took each his censer, and put fire in it, and threw incense on it, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which the Lord did not command them, ² and fire came forth from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

¹⁷ There shall not be a harlot of the daughters of Israel, and there shall not be a fornicator of the sons of Israel; there shall not be an idolatress of the daughters of Israel, and there shall not be an initiated person of the sons of Israel.

³² His harvest shall perish before the time, and his branch shall not flourish.

²³ One shall die in his perfect strength, and wholly at ease and prosperous; ²⁴ and his inwards are full of fat, and his marrow is diffused throughout him. ²⁵ And another dies in bitterness of soul, not eating any good thing.

¹⁶ Who were seized before their time — their foundations are as an overflowing stream.

⁸ Nevertheless they shall be servants, and know My service, and the service of the kings of the earth.

¹⁰ But He will listen to the righteous, and He has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness.

⁸ I am fenced round about, and can by no means escape: He has set darkness before my face.

¹⁰ And the Lord prospered Job. And when he prayed also for his friends, He forgave them their sin: and the Lord gave Job twice as much, even double of what he had before. ¹¹ And all his brothers and sisters heard all that had happened to him, and they came to him, and so did all that had known him from the first; and they ate and drank with him, and comforted him, and wondered at all that the Lord had brought upon him: and each one gave him a lamb, and four drachmas of gold, even of unstamped gold. ¹² And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than the beginning: and his livestock consisted of fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys of the pastures. ¹³ And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the first Jemimah, and the second Keziah, and the third was Keren-Happuch. ¹⁵ And there were not found in comparison with the daughters of Job, fairer women than they in all the world: and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. ¹⁶ And Job lived after his affliction one hundred and seventy years: and all the years he lived were two hundred and forty: and Job saw his sons and his sons' sons, to the fourth generation. ¹⁷ And Job died, an old man and full of days: ^(42:17A) and it is written that he will rise again with those whom the Lord raises up. ^(42:17B) This man is described in the Syriac book as living in the land of Uz, on the borders of Edom and Arabia: and his name before was Jobab; ^(42:17C) and having taken an Arabian wife, he begot a son whose name was Ennon. And he himself was the son of his father Zare, one of the sons of Esau, and of his mother Bosorrha, so that he was the fifth from Abraham. ^(42:17D) And these were the kings who reigned in Edom, which country he also ruled over: first, Balak, the son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dennaba: but after Balak, Jobab, who is called Job, and after him Asom, who was governor out of the country of Teman: and after him Adad, the son of Barad, who destroyed Midian in the plain of Moab; and the name of his city was Gethaim. ^(42:17E) And his friends who came to him were Eliphaz, of the children of Esau, king of the Thaemanites, Bildad sovereign of the Sauchaeans, and Zophar king of the Minaeans.

¹⁹ And He brought me out into a wide place; He shall deliver me, because He has pleasure in me.

⁵ You have prepared a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; and Your cup cheers me like the best wine.

⁸ And You have not shut me up into the hands of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.

⁸ They shall be fully satisfied with the fatness of Your house; and You shall cause them to drink of the full stream of Your delights.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the Lord; and He attended to me, and hearkened to my supplication. ² And He brought me up out of a pit of misery, and from miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. ³ And He put a new song into my mouth, even a hymn to our God; many shall see it and fear, and shall hope in the Lord.

⁵ Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness; and my joyful lips shall praise Your name.

⁵ I called on the Lord out of affliction; and He hearkened to me, and brought me into a wide place.

⁶ And the Lord of hosts shall make a feast for all the nations; on this mount they shall drink gladness, they shall drink wine;

² Why do you value at the price of money, and give your labor for that which will not satisfy? Hearken to Me, and you shall eat that which is good, and your soul shall feast itself on good things.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will cause her to err, and will make her as desolate, and will speak comfortably to her.

^{5 (16:6)} And would there were strength in my mouth, and I would not spare the movement of my lips.

¹¹ The light has proved darkness to you, and water has covered you on your lying down.

⁸ Saying, I have not sinned, nor committed ungodliness, nor had fellowship with workers of iniquity, to go with the ungodly.

³⁶ Howbeit do you learn, Job: no longer giving answers as the foolish:

³² who, having known the righteous judgment of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but also approve of those who practice them.

⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you participate in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

²⁴ He will support him, that he should not perish, and will restore his body as fresh plaster upon a wall; and He will fill his bones with marrow.

⁵ Then shall He speak to them in His anger, and trouble them in His fury.

¹² Accept correction, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you should perish from the righteous way. Whenever His wrath shall be suddenly kindled, blessed are all they that trust in Him.

¹⁰ Remove Your scourge from me; I have fainted by reason of the strength of Your hand.

⁷ a brother does not redeem, shall a man redeem? He shall not give to God a ransom for himself, ⁸ or the price for the redemption of his soul, though he labor forever,

⁵ The Lord at Your right hand has dashed in pieces kings in the day of His wrath.

⁶ Having smitten a nation in wrath with an incurable plague, smiting a nation with a wrathful plague, which spared them not, he rested in quiet.

¹⁶ Son of man, behold I take from you the desire of your eyes by violence. You shall not lament, neither shall you weep.

⁷ But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven upon all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

⁶ who gave Himself a ransom for all, the testimony in due time;

³ how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which in the beginning was spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

¹³ For if He has turned away His anger, the whales under heaven have stooped under Him.

²⁰ But it shall turn out as vanity to them, to cry and beseech a man; for they dealt unlawfully, the poor being turned aside from their right.

¹⁶ A king is not saved by reason of a great host; and a giant shall not be delivered by the greatness of his strength. ¹⁷ A horse is vain for safety; neither shall he be delivered by the greatness of his power.

² Treasures shall not profit the lawless, but righteousness shall deliver from death.

²¹ He that unjustly strikes hands shall not be unpunished, but he that sows righteousness shall receive a faithful reward.

²⁰ For in that day a man shall cast forth his silver and gold abominations, which they made, in order to worship vanities and bats;

³⁶ And the angel of the Lord went forth, and killed out of the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand; and they arose in the morning and found all these bodies dead.

¹⁸ And their silver and their gold shall by no means be able to rescue them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealously; for He will bring a speedy destruction on all them that inhabit the land.

³ Your gold and silver have become corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You stored up treasure in the last days.

²⁹ And it came to pass at midnight that the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the captive in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all cattle.

³⁵ And it came to pass at night that the Angel of the Lord went forth, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And they rose early in the morning, and behold, these were all dead corpses.

²⁰ For why is light given to those who are in bitterness, and life to those souls which are in grief? ²¹ Who desire death, and obtain it not, digging for it as for treasures;

⁹ Let the Lord begin to wound me, but let Him not utterly destroy me.

¹⁵ You will separate life from my spirit; and yet keep my bones from death.

¹³ Oh that You had kept me in the grave, and had hidden me until Your wrath should cease, and You should set me a time in which You would remember me!

¹³ For if I remain, Hades is my habitation: and my bed has been made in darkness. ¹⁴ I have called upon death to be my father, and corruption to be my mother and sister.

²⁵ Who discovers their works, and will bring night about upon them, and they shall be brought low.

³² The ungodly shall be driven away in his wickedness, but he who is secure in his own holiness is just.

³ If the clouds are filled with rain, they pour it out upon the earth; and if a tree fall southward, or if it fall northward, in the place where the tree shall fall, there it shall be.

³⁰ In the same night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was slain.

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?'

²⁵ "to receive the portion in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place."

² For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, just as labor pains upon the woman that is pregnant, and they shall by no means escape.

⁷ What man is like Job, drinking scorning like water? ⁸ Saying, I have not sinned, nor committed ungodliness, nor had fellowship with workers of iniquity, to go with the ungodly. ⁹ For you should not say, There shall be no visitation of a man, whereas there is a visitation on him from the Lord.

³ I will answer you, and your three friends.

¹⁸ If I have regarded iniquity in my heart, let not the Lord hearken to me.

⁴ Therefore speak to them, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord: Any man of the house of Israel, who shall conceive his devices in his heart, and shall set the punishment of his iniquity before his face, and shall come to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him according to the things in which his mind is entangled,

¹⁶ Then Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego answered and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, We have no need to answer you concerning this matter. ¹⁷ For our God whom we serve is in the heavens, able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He shall rescue us from your hands, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, neither will we worship the image which you have set up.

¹⁰ And when Daniel knew that the decree was ordered, he went into his house. And his windows were opened in his chambers toward Jerusalem, and three times in the day he knelt upon his knees, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he used to do before.

²⁹ If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members be lost, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members be lost, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but is short-lived. For when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

⁴⁰ And they were persuaded by him, and when they called the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and released them. ⁴¹ Then they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing because they were counted worthy to be dishonored on behalf of the name of Jesus.

²⁵ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to have the temporary pleasure of sin,

¹⁷ For it is better to suffer for doing good, if it is the will of God, than for doing evil.

¹⁵ For let not anyone of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a meddler in other people's affairs; ¹⁶ but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be put to shame, but let him glorify God in this matter.

⁷ The Lord makes poor, and makes rich; He brings low, and lifts up. ⁸ He lifts up the poor from the earth, and raises the needy from the dunghill; to seat him with the princes of the people, and causing them to inherit the throne of glory;

¹¹ who makes me to differ from the four-footed beasts of the earth, and from the birds of the sky?

⁷ For God is the judge; He puts one down, and raises up another.

¹⁰ He that chastises the heathen, shall He not punish, even He that teaches man knowledge?

⁵ The Lord has broken the yoke of sinners, and the yoke of princes.

¹³ And I will cause all your sons to be taught of God, and your children to be in great peace.

⁵ I have made the earth by My great power, and by My outstretched arm, and I will give it to whomsoever it shall seem good in My eyes. ⁶ I have given the earth to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to serve him, and the wild beasts of the field to labor for him. ⁷ (TEXT OMITTED) ⁸ And the nation and kingdom, all that shall not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, with sword and famine will I visit them, says the Lord, until they are consumed by his hand.

³⁸ Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when the city shall be built to the Lord from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.

²⁵ and they shall drive you forth from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts, and they shall feed you with grass like an ox, and you shall have your lodging under the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High is Lord of the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.

³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field, and they shall feed you with grass like an ox. And seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High is Lord of the kingdom of men, and He shall give it to whomever He chooses.

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave to your father Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, and majesty, and honor, and glory.

⁵² He has overthrown the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught of God.' Therefore everyone who hears from the Father, and has learned, comes to Me.

¹ Let every soul submit to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except by God, and the authorities that exist are instituted by God.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me, you that are wise in heart: far be it from me to sin before the Lord, and to pervert righteousness before the Almighty.

¹³ And who is He that made the whole world under heaven, and all things therein? ¹⁴ For if He would confine, and restrain His Spirit with Himself; ¹⁵ all flesh would die together, and every mortal would return to the earth, from where he was formed. ¹⁶ Take heed lest He rebuke you: hear this, listen to the voice of words. ¹⁷ Behold then the One that hates iniquities, and that destroys the wicked, who is forever just. ¹⁸ He is ungodly that says to a king, You are a transgressor, that says to princes, O most ungodly one. ¹⁹ Such a one as would not reverence the face of an honorable man, neither knows how to give honor to the great, so as that their persons should be respected. ²⁰ But it shall turn out as vanity to them, to cry and beseech a man; for they dealt unlawfully, the poor being turned aside from their right. ²¹ For He surveys the works of men, and nothing of what they do has escaped Him. ²² Neither shall there be a place for the workers of iniquity to hide themselves. ²³ For He will not lay upon a man more than right. ²⁴ For the Lord looks down upon all men, who comprehends unsearchable things, glorious also and excellent things without number. ²⁵ Who discovers their works, and will bring night about upon them, and they shall be brought low. ²⁶ And He destroys the ungodly, for they are seen before Him. ²⁷ Because they turned aside from the law of God, and did not regard His ordinances, ²⁸ so as to bring before Him the cry of the needy; for He will hear the cry of the poor. ²⁹ And He will give quiet, and who will condemn? And He will hide His face, and who shall see Him? Whether it be done against a nation, or against a man, also: ³⁰ causing a hypocrite to be king, because of the waywardness of the people. ³¹ For there is one that says to the Mighty One, I have received blessings; I will not take a pledge: ³² I will see apart from myself — show me if I have done unrighteousness; I will not do so anymore. ³³ Will He take vengeance for it on you, whereas you will put it far from you? For you shall choose, and not I; and whatever you know, speak thus.

^{8 (40:3)} Do not set aside My judgment: and do you think that I have dealt with you in any other way, than that you might appear to be righteous?

¹³ Who has known the mind of the Lord? And who has been His counselor, to instruct Him? ¹⁴ Or with whom has He taken counsel, and he has instructed Him? Or who has taught Him judgment, or who has taught Him the way of understanding;

⁵ But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Surely God, the One inflicting wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I speak as a man.)

³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has been His counselor?"

¹⁶ For "Who has known the mind of the LORD, that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

¹⁹ and lest having looked up to the sky, and having seen the sun and the moon and the stars, and all the heavenly bodies, you should go astray and worship them, and serve them, which the Lord your God has distributed to all the nations under heaven.

¹³ With Him are wisdom and power, with Him counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ If He should cast down, who will build up? If He should shut up against man, who shall open? ¹⁵ If He should withhold the water, He will dry the earth: and if He should let it loose, He overthrows and destroys it. ¹⁶ With Him are strength and power: He has knowledge and understanding. ¹⁷ He leads counselors away captive, and maddens the judges of the earth. ¹⁸ He seats kings upon thrones, and binds their waist with a belt. ¹⁹ He sends away priests into captivity, and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth. ²⁰ He changes the lips of the trusty, and He knows the understanding of the elders. ²¹ He pours dishonor upon princes, and heals the lowly. ²² Revealing deep things out of darkness: and He has brought into light the shadow of death. ²³ Causing the nations to wander, and destroying them: overthrowing the nations, and leading them away. ²⁴ Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth, and He causes them to wander in a way, they have not known, saying, ²⁵ Let them grope in darkness, and let there be no light, and let them wander as a drunken man.

⁵ Shall giants be born from under the water and the inhabitants thereof? ⁶ Hell is naked before Him, and destruction has no covering. ⁷ He stretches out the north wind upon nothing, and He hangs the earth upon nothing; ⁸ binding water in His clouds, and the cloud does not break under it. ⁹ He keeps back the face of His throne, stretching out His cloud upon it. ¹⁰ He has encompassed the face of the water by an appointed ordinance, until the end of light and darkness. ¹¹ The pillars of heaven are prostrate and astonished at His rebuke.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims the work of His hands. ² Day to day utters speech, and night to night proclaims knowledge. ³ There are no speeches or words, in which their voices are not heard. ⁴ Their voice is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.

⁵ Because they have not attended to the works of the Lord, even to the works of His hands, You shall pull them down, and shall not build them up.

³ Magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.

¹⁶ But I will sing to Your strength, and in the morning will I rejoice in Your mercy; for You have been my supporter, and my refuge in the day of my affliction.

⁸ There is none like You, O Lord, among the gods; and there are no works like Your works. ⁹ All nations whom You have made shall come and shall worship before You, O Lord; and shall glorify Your name. ¹⁰ For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are the great God.

⁴ For You, O Lord, have made me glad with Your work; and in the operations of Your hands will I rejoice. ⁵ How have Your works been magnified, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep.

²⁴ How great are Your works, O Lord! In wisdom have You done them all; the earth is filled with Your creation.

⁸ Let them acknowledge to the Lord His mercies, and His wonderful works to the children of men.

⁵ And let them sing in the ways of the Lord; for great is the glory of the Lord.

¹⁰ Let all Your works, O Lord, give thanks to You; and let Your saints bless You. ¹¹ They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your dominion; ¹² to make known to the sons of men Your power, and the glorious majesty of Your kingdom.

³ how great and mighty they are; His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His power to all generations.

³⁷ Now therefore, I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and greatly exalt and glorify the King of heaven; for all His works are true, and His paths are judgment: and all that walk in pride He is able to abase.

⁴⁶ And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord,

²⁷ But will God indeed dwell with men upon the earth? If the heaven and heaven of heavens will not suffice You, how much less even this house which I have built for Your name?

⁵ Or is Your life human, or Your years the years of a man,

⁷ Will you find out the traces of the Lord? Or have you come to the end of that which the Almighty has made? ⁸ Heaven is high, and what will you do? And there are deeper things than those in hell; what do you know? ⁹ Or longer than the measure of the earth, or the breadth of the sea.

¹⁴ Behold, these are parts of His way; and we will hearken to Him at the least intimation of His word: but who knows the strength of His thunder, when He shall employ it?

⁵ The Mighty One shall thunder wonderfully with His voice: for He has done great things which we knew not;

² Before the mountains existed, and before the earth and the world were formed, even from age to age, You are God.

²⁴ Do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are through all generations. ²⁵ In the beginning You, O Lord, laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Your hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but You remain; and they all shall grow old like a garment; and as a vesture shall You fold them, and they shall be changed. ²⁷ But You are the same, and Your years shall not fail.

³ The Lord is great, and greatly to be praised; and there is no end to His greatness.

¹² For now we see through a mirror by reflection, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

¹² and like a cloak You will roll them up, and they shall be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail."

⁸ But in this let it not escape your notice, beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

⁵ and every herb of the field before it was on the earth, and all the grass of the field before it sprang up, for God had not rained on the earth, and there was not a man to cultivate it. ⁶ But there rose a fountain out of the earth, and watered the whole face of the earth.

⁹ who does great and untraceable things, glorious things also, and marvelous, of which there is no number:

³³ The Lord will declare concerning this to His friend: but there is a portion also for unrighteousness.

²⁵ And who prepared a course for the violent rain, and a way for the thunders; ²⁶ to rain upon the land where there is no man, the wilderness, where there is not a man in it; so as to feed the untrodden and uninhabited land, ²⁷ and cause it to send forth a crop of green herbs? ²⁸ Who is the rain's father? And who has generated the drops of dew?

³⁴ And will you call a cloud by your voice, and will it obey you with a violent shower of much rain?

⁹ You have visited the earth, and saturated it; You have abundantly enriched it. The river of God is filled with water; You have prepared their food, for thus is the preparation of it. ¹⁰ Saturate her furrows, multiply her fruits; the crop springing up shall rejoice in its drops. ¹¹ You will bless the crown of the year because of Your goodness; and Your plains shall be filled with fatness. ¹² The mountains of the wilderness shall be enriched; and the hills shall gird themselves with joy. ¹³ The rams of the flock are clothed with wool, and the valleys shall abound in grain; they shall cry aloud; yea, they shall sing hymns.

⁸ who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who causes grass to spring up on the mountains, and green herb for the service of men;

⁸ Fire, hail, snow, ice, and stormy wind; the things that perform His word.

⁶ And I will forsake My vineyard; and it shall not be pruned, nor dug, and thorns shall come up upon it as on barren land; and I will command the clouds to rain no rain upon it.

²² Is there anyone among the idols of the Gentiles that can give rain? And will the sky yield His fullness at their bidding? Are not You He? We will even wait on You, O Lord, for You have made all these things.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of the life of Noah, in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, on this day all the fountains of the abyss were broken up, and the flood gates of heaven were opened. ¹² And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

¹¹ And if a cloud obscures what is precious to Him, His light will disperse the cloud. ¹² And He will carry round the encircling clouds by His governance, to perform their works: whatsoever He shall command them, ¹³ this has been appointed by Him on the earth, whether for correction, or for His land, or if He shall find him an object for mercy.

²⁰ By His knowledge were the depths broken up, and the clouds dropped water.

⁴⁴ And the servant went again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that behold, a little cloud like the sole of a man's foot brought water; and he said, Go up, and say to Ahab, make ready your chariot, and go down, lest the rain overtake you. ⁴⁵ And it came to pass in the meanwhile, that the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. ² Hear a report by the anger of the Lord's wrath, and a discourse shall come out of His mouth. ³ His dominion is under the whole heaven, and His light is at the extremities of the earth. ⁴ After Him shall be a cry with a loud voice; He shall thunder with the voice of His excellency, yet He shall not cause men to pass away, for one shall hear His voice. ⁵ The Mighty One shall thunder wonderfully with His voice: for He has done great things which we knew not;

⁹ And I made a cloud its clothing, and swathed it in mist.

³⁷ And who is he that numbers the clouds in wisdom, and has bowed the heaven down to the earth?

¹³ The Lord also thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice.

³ The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory has thundered; the Lord is upon many waters. ⁴ The voice of the Lord is mighty; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. ⁵ The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord will break the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ And He will beat them small, even Lebanon itself, like a calf; and the beloved one is as a young unicorn. ⁷ The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire. ⁸ The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord will shake the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ The voice of the Lord strengthens the deer, and will uncover the thickets; and in His temple everyone speaks of His glory. ¹⁰ The Lord will dwell on the waterflood; and the Lord will sit as king forever.

¹⁶ The waters saw You, O God, the waters saw You, and feared; and the depths were troubled. ¹⁷ There was an abundant sound of waters; the clouds uttered a voice; for Your arrows went abroad. ¹⁸ The voice of Your thunder was abroad, and around Your lightnings appeared to the world; the earth trembled and quaked. ¹⁹ Your way is in the sea, and Your paths in many waters, and Your footsteps cannot be known.

³ Who covers His chambers with waters; who makes the clouds His chariot; who walks on the wings of the wind.

⁷ At Your rebuke they shall flee; at the voice of Your thunder they shall be alarmed.

³ The Lord is longsuffering, and His power is great, and the Lord will not hold any guiltless: His way is in destruction and in the whirlwind, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

¹⁰ The nations shall see You and be in pain, as You divided the moving waters: the deep uttered her voice, and raised her form on high.

⁹ And God said, Let the water which is under the heaven be collected into one place, and let the dry land appear, and it was so. And the water which was under the heaven was collected into its places, and the dry land appeared.

²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the water of it was a wall on the right hand and on the left.

²⁸ And the water returned and covered the chariots and the riders, and all the forces of Pharaoh, who entered after them into the sea; and there was not so much as one of them left.

⁴ He has cast the chariots of Pharaoh and his army into the sea, the chosen mounted captains: they were swallowed up in the Red Sea. ⁵ He covered them with the sea: they sank to the depth like a stone.

⁸ And I shut up the sea with gates, when it rushed out, coming forth out its mother's womb. ⁹ And I made a cloud its clothing, and swathed it in mist. ¹⁰ And I set bounds to it, surrounding it with bars and gates. ¹¹ And I said to it, To this point you shall come, but you shall not go beyond, but your waves shall be confined within you.

²⁵ And who prepared a course for the violent rain, and a way for the thunders;

³⁴ And will you call a cloud by your voice, and will it obey you with a violent shower of much rain? ³⁵ And will you send lightnings, and they shall go? And shall they say to you, What is your pleasure?

¹¹ And He made darkness His secret place; round about Him was His tabernacle, even dark water in the clouds of the air. ¹² At the brightness before Him the clouds passed, hail and coals of fire. ¹³ The Lord also thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice. ¹⁴ And He sent forth His weapons, and scattered them; and multiplied lightnings, and routed them. ¹⁵ And the springs of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were exposed, at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the blasting of the breath of Your wrath. ¹⁶ He sent from on high and took me, He drew me to Himself out of many waters.

⁵ Who establishes the earth on her sure foundation; it shall not ever be moved. ⁶ The deep, like a garment, is His covering; the waters shall stand on the hills. ⁷ At Your rebuke they shall flee; at the voice of Your thunder they shall be alarmed. ⁸ They go up to the mountains, and down to the plains, to the place which You founded for them. ⁹ You have set a boundary which they shall not pass, neither shall they turn again to cover the earth.

²⁴ For just as the lightning which flashes out of the one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day.

^{17 (6:18)} And behold, I shall bring a flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven, and whatsoever things are upon the earth shall die.

¹⁷ And the flood was upon the earth forty days and forty nights, and the water abounded greatly and bore up the ark, and it was lifted on high from off the earth. ¹⁸ And the water prevailed and abounded exceedingly upon the earth, and the ark was borne upon the water. ¹⁹ And the water prevailed exceedingly upon the earth, and covered all the high mountains which were under heaven. ²⁰ Fifteen cubits upwards was the water raised, and it covered all the high mountains. ²¹ And all flesh that moved upon the earth died; of flying creatures and cattle, and of wild beasts, and every reptile moving upon the earth, and every man. ²² And all things which have the breath of life, and whatever was on the dry land, died. ²³ And God blotted out every offspring which was upon the face of the earth, both man and beast, and reptiles, and birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth, and Noah was left alone, and those with him in the ark. ²⁴ And the water was raised over the earth one hundred and fifty days.

²⁴ And the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.

²³ And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail; and the fire ran along upon the ground, and the Lord rained hail on all the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was hail and flaming fire mingled with hail; and the hail was very great, such as was not in Egypt from the time there was a nation upon it. ²⁵ And the hail struck both man and beast in all the land of Egypt, and the hail struck all the grass in the field, and the hail broke in pieces all the trees in the field.

² And you shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you in the wilderness, that He might afflict you, and try you, and that the things in your heart might be made manifest, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

¹⁵ who brought you through that great and terrible wilderness, where the biting serpent is, and the scorpion, and drought, where there was no water; who brought you a fountain of water out of the flinty rock;

¹¹ And when they fled from the face of the children of Israel at the descent of Beth Horon then the Lord cast upon them hailstones from heaven to Azekah; and there were more that died by the hailstones than those whom the children of Israel slew with the sword in the battle.

¹⁰ The Lord will weaken His adversary; the Lord is holy. Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast in his strength, and let not the rich man boast in his wealth; but let him that boasts boast in this: to understand and know the Lord, and to execute judgment and justice in the midst of the earth. The Lord has gone up to the heavens, and has thundered: He will judge the extremities of the earth, and He gives strength to our kings, and will exalt the horn of His Christ. And she left him there before the Lord,

¹⁰ And Samuel was offering the whole burnt offering; and the Philistines drew near to war against Israel; and the Lord thundered with a mighty sound in that day upon the Philistines, and they were confounded and overthrown before Israel.

¹⁸ And Samuel called upon the Lord, and the Lord sent thunders and rain in that day. And all the people feared greatly the Lord and Samuel.

¹³ this has been appointed by Him on the earth, whether for correction, or for His land, or if He shall find him an object for mercy.

²² But have you gone to the treasures of snow? And have you seen the treasures of hail? ²³ And is there a store of them, for you against the time of your enemies, for the day of wars and battle?

²⁶ to rain upon the land where there is no man, the wilderness, where there is not a man in it; so as to feed the untrodden and uninhabited land, ²⁷ and cause it to send forth a crop of green herbs?

¹³ He waters the mountains from His chambers; the earth shall be satisfied with the fruit of Your works. ¹⁴ He makes grass to grow for the cattle, and green herbs for the service of men, to bring bread out of the earth; ¹⁵ and wine makes glad the heart of man, to make his face cheerful with oil; and bread strengthens man's heart.

²⁷ All wait upon You, to give them their food in due season. ²⁸ When You have given it to them, they will gather it; and when You have opened Your hand, they shall all be filled with good.

²⁵ Who gives food to all flesh; for His mercy endures forever.

¹⁷ And yet He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, giving to you rains from heaven and fruitbearing seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."

²¹ And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand toward heaven, and let there be darkness over the land of Egypt — darkness that may be felt. ²² And Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was darkness, very black, even a storm over all the land of Egypt three days. ²³ And for three days no man saw his brother, and no man rose up from his bed for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in all the places where they were.

⁹ He keeps back the face of His throne, stretching out His cloud upon it.

¹² And He will carry round the encircling clouds by His governance, to perform their works: whatsoever He shall command them,

¹¹ And He made darkness His secret place; round about Him was His tabernacle, even dark water in the clouds of the air.

⁷ Who brings up clouds from the extremity of the earth; He has made lightnings for the rain; He brings the winds out of His treasures.

⁸ who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who causes grass to spring up on the mountains, and green herb for the service of men; ⁹ and gives cattle their food, and to the young ravens that call upon Him.

²⁰ And neither the sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, finally all hope for us to be saved was taken away.

¹⁴ The Lord thundered out of heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice.

⁴¹ And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, and eat and drink, for there is a sound of the coming of rain. ⁴² And Ahab went up to eat and to drink; and Elijah went up to Carmel, and stooped to the ground, and put his face between his knees, ⁴³ and said to his servant, Go up, and look toward the sea. And the servant looked, and said, There is nothing. And Elijah said, Go again, seven times.

²⁹ And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, or the measure of His tabernacle;

⁴ And the labors of the land failed, because there was no rain: the plowmen were ashamed; they covered their heads. ⁵ And the deer gave birth in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass. ⁶ The wild donkeys stood by the forests, and snuffed up the wind; their eyes failed, because there was no grass.

¹⁸ What shall we store up for ourselves? The herds of cattle have mourned, because they had no pasture; and the flocks of sheep have been utterly destroyed.

²² Be of good courage, you beasts of the plain, for the plains of the wilderness have budded, for the trees have borne their fruit, the fig tree and the vine have yielded their strength.
