And He said, I will remain until you return. ¹⁹ And Gideon went in, and prepared a young goat, and unleavened bread from an ephah of fine flour; and he put the flesh in the basket, and poured the broth into the pot, and brought them forth to Him under the terebinth tree, and drew near. ²⁰ And the Angel of God said to him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and put them on that rock, and pour out the broth close by: and he did so. ²¹ And the Angel of the Lord stretched out the end of the rod that was in His hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened bread; and fire came up out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened bread, and the Angel of the Lord vanished from his sight. ²² And Gideon saw that He was the Angel of the Lord; and Gideon said, Ah, O Lord my God! And it came to pass, as he feared the house of his father and the men of the city if he should do it by day, that he did it by night. ²⁸ And the men of the city rose up early in the morning; and behold, the altar of Baal had been demolished, and the grove by it had been destroyed; and they saw the second bullock, which Gideon offered on the altar that had been built. ²⁹ And a man said to his neighbor, Who has done this thing? And they inquired and searched, and learned that Gideon the son of Joash had done this thing. ³⁰ And the men of the city said to Joash, Bring out your son, and let him die, because he has destroyed the altar of Baal, and because he has destroyed the grove that is by it. ³¹ And Gideon the son of Joash said to all the men who rose up against him, Do you now plead for Baal, or will you save him? Whoever will plead for him, let him be slain this morning: if he be a god let him plead for himself, because one has thrown down his altar. ³² And he called it in that day Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because his altar has been thrown down. ³³ And all Midian, and Amalek, and the sons of the east gathered themselves together, and encamped in the Valley of Jezreel. ³⁴ And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew with the horn, and Abiezer came to help after him. ³⁵ And Gideon sent messengers into all Manasseh, and into Asher, and into Zebulun, and into Nephtali; and he went up to meet them. ³⁶ And Gideon said to God, If you will save Israel by my hand, as You have said, ³⁷ behold, I put the fleece of wool in the threshing floor: if there be dew on the fleece only, and drought on all the ground, I shall know that You will save Israel by my hand, as You have said. ³⁸ And it was so. And he rose up early in the morning, and wrung the fleece, and dew dropped from the fleece, a bowl full of water. ³⁹ And Gideon said to God, Let not Your anger be kindled with me, and I will speak yet once; I will even yet make one trial more with the fleece: let now the drought be upon the fleece only, and let there be dew on all the ground. ⁴⁰ And God did so in that night; and there was drought on the fleece only, and on all the ground there was dew.

¹⁵ And the name of the Midianite woman who was smitten, was Cozbi, daughter of Zur, a prince of the nation of Hommoth: it is a chief house among the people of Midian. ¹⁶ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ¹⁷ Harass the Midianites as enemies, and strike them, ¹⁸ for they are enemies to you by the treachery in which they ensnare you through Peor, and through Cozbi their sister, daughter of a prince of Midian, who was smitten in the day of the plague because of Peor.

¹ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ² Avenge the wrongs of the children of Israel on the Midianites, and afterwards you shall be added to your people. ³ And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves for war, and set yourselves in array before the Lord against Midian, to inflict vengeance on Midian from the Lord.

¹ And now, O Israel, hear the statutes and judgments, hear all that I teach you this day to do, that you may live, and be multiplied, and that you may go in and inherit the land, which the Lord God of your fathers gives to you.

⁵ And I stood between the Lord and you at that time to report to you the words of the Lord, (because you were afraid before the fire, and you went not up to the mountain,) saying,

²⁴ and you said, Behold, the Lord our God has shown us His glory, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire: this day we have seen that God shall speak to man, and he shall live.

²⁶ For what man is there, who has heard the voice of the living God, speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have heard, and shall live?

⁵ But thus shall you do to them: you shall destroy their altars, and shall break down their pillars, and cut down their groves, and you shall burn with fire the graven images of their gods.

So shall you abolish the evil from among you. ⁶ And if your brother by your father or mother, or your son, or daughter, or your wife in your bosom, or friend who is equal to your own soul, entreat you secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known, ⁷ of the gods of the nations that are round about you, who are near you or at a distance from you, from one end of the earth to the other; ⁸ you shall not consent to him, neither shall you hearken to him; and your eye shall not spare him, you shall feel no regret for him, neither shall you at all protect him: ⁹ you shall surely report concerning him, and your hands shall be upon him among the first to slay him, and the hands of all the people at the last. ¹⁰ And they shall stone him with stones, and he shall die, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ¹¹ And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall not again do according to this evil thing among you. ¹² And if in one of your cities which the Lord God gives you to dwell in, you shall hear men saying, ¹³ Evil men have gone out from you, and have caused all the inhabitants of their land to fall away, saying, Let us go and worship other gods, whom you knew not, ¹⁴ then you shall inquire and ask, and search diligently, and behold, if the thing is clearly true, and this abomination has taken place among you, ¹⁵ you shall utterly destroy all the inhabitants of that land with the edge of the sword; you shall solemnly curse it, and all things in it. ¹⁶ And all its spoils you shall gather into its public ways, and you shall burn the city with fire, and all its spoils publicly before the Lord your God; and it shall be uninhabited forever, it shall not be built again. ¹⁷ And none of the cursed things shall cleave to your hand, that the Lord may turn from His fierce anger, and show you mercy, and pity you, and multiply you, as He swore to your fathers; ¹⁸ if you will hear the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments, all that I charge you this day, to do that which is good and pleasing before the Lord your God.

² And if there should be found in any of your cities which the Lord your God gives you, a man or a woman who shall do that which is evil before the Lord your God, so as to transgress His covenant, ³ and they should go and serve other gods, and worship them, the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which He commanded you not to do, ⁴ and it be told you, and you shall have inquired diligently, and behold, the thing really took place, this abomination has been done in Israel; ⁵ then shall you bring out that man, or that woman, and you shall stone them with stones, and they shall die. ⁶ He shall die on the testimony of two or three witnesses; a man who is put to death shall not be put to death for one witness. ⁷ And the hand of the witnesses shall be upon him among the first to put him to death, and the hand of the people at the last; so shall you remove the evil one from among yourselves.

²⁹ And they prophesied until the evening came. And it came to pass as it was the time of the offering of the sacrifice, that Elijah the Tishbite spoke to the prophets of the abominations, saying, Stand by for the present, and I will offer my sacrifice. And they stood aside and departed.

³³ And he piled the cleft wood on the altar which he had made, and divided the whole burnt offering, and laid it on the wood, and laid it in order on the altar, and said, Fetch me four pitchers of water, and pour it on the whole burnt offering, and on the wood. And they did so. ³⁴ And he said, Do it a second time. And they did it a second time. And he said, Do it a third time. And they did it a third time.

³⁸ Then fire fell from the Lord out of heaven, and devoured the whole burnt offerings, and the wood and the water that was in the trench, and the fire licked up the stones and the earth.

⁴⁰ And Elijah said to the people, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them; and Elijah brought them down to the Brook Kishon, and he executed them there.

⁴⁵ And it came to pass in the meanwhile, that the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab wept, and went to Jezreel.

³³ And they feared the Lord, yet served their own gods, according to the rituals of the nations from among whom they were carried away.

³⁵ And the Lord made a covenant with them, and commanded them, saying, You shall not fear other gods, neither shall you worship them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them; ³⁶ but only to the Lord, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great strength, and with an outstretched arm: Him shall you fear, and Him shall you worship; to Him shall you sacrifice. ³⁷ You shall observe continually the ordinances and the judgments and the law and the commandments which He wrote for you to do; and you shall not fear other gods. ³⁸ Neither shall you forget the covenant which He made with you; and you shall fear no other gods. ³⁹ But you shall fear the Lord your God, and He shall deliver you from all your enemies.

⁸ And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and I shall go up to the house of the Lord on the third day? ⁹ And Isaiah said, This is the sign from the Lord, that the Lord will perform the word which He has spoken, the shadow of the dial shall advance ten degrees; or if it should go back ten degrees this would also be the sign.

⁵ The good man is he that pities and lends; he will direct his affairs with judgment.

And they called its name Bamah, until this day. ³⁰ Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord: Do you pollute yourselves with the iniquities of your fathers, and do you go a-whoring after their abominations, ³¹ and do you pollute yourselves with the firstfruits of your gifts, in the offerings wherewith you pollute yourselves in all your imaginations, until this day; and shall I answer you, O house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord, I will not answer you, neither shall this thing come upon your spirit. ³² And it shall not be as you say, We will be as the nations, and as the tribes of the earth, to worship stocks and stones.

³⁵ The circumference, eighteen thousand measures. And the name of the city, from the day that it shall be finished, shall be THE LORD IS THERE.

¹⁹ and said to me, Fear not, man greatly beloved: peace be to you, gird yourself like a man, and be strong. And when he had spoken with me, I received strength, and said, Let my lord speak; for you have strengthened me.

¹⁵ I will go and return to My place, until they are brought to nought, and then shall they seek My face.

³ Let us follow on to know the Lord: we shall find Him ready as the morning, and He will come to us as the early and latter rain to the earth. ⁴ What shall I do unto you, Ephraim? What shall I do to you, Judah? For your mercy is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that goes away.

¹⁰ I found Israel as grapes in the wilderness, and I saw their fathers as an early watchman in a fig tree. They went in to Baal Peor, and were shamefully estranged, and the abominable became as the beloved.

⁵ I will be as dew to Israel: he shall bloom as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

⁵ If thieves came in to you, or robbers by night, where would you have been cast away? Would they not have stolen just enough for themselves? And if grape-gatherers went in to you, would they not leave a gleaning?

² And you, Bethlehem, house of Ephratha, are few in number to be reckoned among the thousands of Judah; yet out of you shall one come forth to Me, to be a ruler of Israel; and His goings forth were from the beginning, even from eternity.

¹⁵ You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall press the olive, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil; and shall make wine, but you shall drink no wine: and the ordinances of My people shall be utterly abolished.

⁷ Because of troubles I looked upon the tents of the Ethiopians: the tabernacles also of the land of Midian shall be dismayed.

² The dove hearkened not to the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord, and she drew not near to her God.

⁴ Because one will say, Edom has been overthrown, but let us return and rebuild the desolate places; thus says the Lord Almighty, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The borders of wickedness, and, The people against whom the Lord has set Himself forever.

²³ "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other, or else he will be devoted to the one, and he will despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

¹² but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

⁵ These twelve Jesus sent forth, commanding them, saying, "Do not go off into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. ⁶ But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

³⁷ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

²⁴ But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

¹ Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him, they asked Him to show them a sign out of heaven.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

⁴³ "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and it shall be given to a nation producing the fruits of it.

²⁰ teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

²⁰ And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

¹¹ Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

²⁸ And the angel came to her and said, "Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!"

³⁴ Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?"

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, He who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

⁵ His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He may say to you, do."

² This man came to Him by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."

⁴¹ These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke about Him.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

¹⁴ You are My friends if you do what I command you.

² They will excommunicate you; but a time is coming when everyone who kills you will think that he is offering God a service.

¹⁹ Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace to you."

²⁶ And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been closed, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!"

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them and said, "Whether it is right before God to hear you rather than God, you judge.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered, and said: "We must obey God rather than men.

²¹ And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed, and turned to the Lord.

⁴⁶ But Paul and Barnabas, speaking boldly said, "It was necessary for the word of God to be spoken to you first; but since you thrust it away, and judge yourselves not worthy of eternal life; behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁹ Now the Lord spoke to Paul by a vision in the night, "Fear not, but speak, and do not keep silent; ¹⁰ for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you; for I have many people in this city."

²¹ "Then He said to me, 'Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.' "

⁹ Therefore I thought in myself that it was necessary to do many hostile things against the name of Jesus the Nazarene;

²⁸ "Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!"

⁷ To all those who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ³⁶ Just as it is written: "For Your sake we are put to death the whole day long; we are accounted as sheep for slaughter." ³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, ³⁹ nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁶ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?"

¹² But if their transgression is the riches of the world, and their defeat is the riches of the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! ¹³ For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am indeed an apostle to the Gentiles, I glorify my ministry, ¹⁴ if somehow I may provoke to jealousy my fellow Jews, and I may save some of them. ¹⁵ For if their casting away means reconciliation for the world, what will their acceptance be, if not life from the dead? ¹⁶ For if the firstfruit is holy, so also the lump; and if the root is holy, so also the branches. ¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and became a partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree, ¹⁸ do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. ¹⁹ You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." ²⁰ Well said. By unbelief they were broken off, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear. ²¹ For if God did not spare the natural branches, perhaps He may not spare you either. ²² Behold then the kindness and severity of God: upon those that fell, severity; but upon you, kindness, if you continue in His kindness. Otherwise you also shall be cut off.

¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

⁴ Therefore concerning the eating of the things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

⁸ For to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit, ⁹ and to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, ¹⁰ to another the working of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another discerning of spirits, and to another different kinds of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues. ¹¹ But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

³³ For God is not the author of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

⁴⁰ Let all things be done properly and according to order.

⁹ For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

¹⁵ And what agreement is there for Christ with Belial? Or what part is there for a believer with an infidel? ¹⁶ And what union is there for the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, just as God has said: "I will dwell in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." ¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from the midst of them and be separated," says the Lord. "Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you."

¹⁶ to reveal His Son in me, so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood,

²⁷ For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

⁸ To me, the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

¹¹ And have no partnership with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

⁶ with respect to zeal, persecuting the church; with respect to righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

⁴ but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who is testing our hearts.

⁹ And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

³² And what more should I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, both Barak and Samson and Jephthah, both David and Samuel and the prophets:

³⁴ quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became mighty in battle, turned to flight the armies of foreigners.

³⁸ of whom the world was not worthy, wandering in deserts and mountains and caves, and the holes of the earth.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the magnates and the high-ranking military men, and the rich and the mighty, and every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the crags of the mountains.
