²⁰ And Moses heard it, and it pleased him.

¹⁸ For the greatest part of the people of Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not purified themselves, but ate the Passover contrary to the Scripture. On this account also Hezekiah prayed concerning them, saying, ¹⁹ The good Lord be merciful with regard to every heart that sincerely seeks the Lord God of their fathers, and is not purified according to the purification of the sanctuary. ²⁰ And the Lord hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.

⁸ And the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying, ⁹ Thus says the Lord Almighty; Judge righteous judgment, and deal mercifully and compassionately, everyone with his brother,

³ But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and those who were with him: ⁴ how they entered the house of God, and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, except only for the priests? ⁵ Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are guiltless? ⁶ Yet I say to you that One greater than the temple is here. ⁷ But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

²⁰ A bruised reed He shall not break, and a smoldering wick He shall not quench, till He bring forth justice to victory;
