²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he became very sad, He said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!

¹⁰ And it shall come to pass, when the Lord your God has brought you into the land which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, and to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you great and beautiful cities which you did not build, ¹¹ houses full of all good things which you did not fill, wells dug in the rock which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, then having eaten and been filled, ¹² beware lest you forget the Lord your God that brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹¹ Take heed to yourself that you forget not the Lord your God, so as not to keep His commands, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command you this day, ¹² lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built nice houses, and dwelt in them; ¹³ and your oxen and your sheep are multiplied to you, and your silver and your gold are multiplied to you, and all your possessions are multiplied to you, ¹⁴ that you should be exalted in your heart, and forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; ¹⁵ who brought you through that great and terrible wilderness, where the biting serpent is, and the scorpion, and drought, where there was no water; who brought you a fountain of water out of the flinty rock; ¹⁶ who fed you with manna in the wilderness, which you knew not, and your fathers knew not; that He might afflict you, and thoroughly test you, and do you good in your latter days. ¹⁷ Lest you should say in your heart, My strength, and the power of my own hand have worked for me this great wealth!

³ Because the sinner praises himself for the desires of his heart; and the unjust one blesses himself.

⁵ They are not in the troubles of other men; and they shall not be scourged with other men. ⁶ Therefore pride has possessed them; they have clothed themselves with their injustice and ungodliness. ⁷ Their injustice shall go forth as out of fatness; they have fulfilled their intention. ⁸ They have taken counsel and spoken in wickedness; they have uttered unrighteousness loftily. ⁹ They have set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue has gone through upon the earth. ¹⁰ Therefore shall my people return here, and full days shall be found with them. ¹¹ And they said, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High? ¹² Behold, these are the sinners, and they that prosper always; they have possessed wealth.

²⁸ He that trusts in wealth shall fall, but he that helps righteous men shall rise.

¹¹ The wealth of a rich man is a strong city, and its glory casts a broad shadow.

⁹ lest I be filled and become false, and say, Who sees me? Or be poor and steal, and swear vainly by the name of God.

³¹ Therefore hear the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Have I been a wilderness or a dry land to Israel? Why have My people said, We will not be ruled over, and will not come to You anymore?

⁵ I will go to the rich men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the Lord, and the judgment of God. But, behold, with one consent they have broken the yoke, they have burst the bonds.

²³ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Assuredly I say to you, that with difficulty a rich man shall enter the kingdom of heaven. ²⁴ And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." ²⁵ And when His disciples heard, they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then is able to be saved?"

²⁶ And the king became exceedingly sorry; yet, because of his oaths and of those who reclined with him, he did not want to refuse her.

²³ And looking around, Jesus says to His disciples, "How difficult it is for those having riches to enter the kingdom of God!" ²⁴ And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus, answering again, says to them, "Children, how difficult it is for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter into the kingdom of God." ²⁶ And they were exceedingly astonished, saying among themselves, "Who then is able to be saved?" ²⁷ But looking at them Jesus said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."

²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many powerful, not many noble, are called. ²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty.

⁹ Now I rejoice, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led to repentance; for you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. ¹⁰ For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, without regret; but worldly sorrow produces death.

⁹ But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many senseless and harmful lusts which sink men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some by aspiring have strayed away from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers. Did God not choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those that love Him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into court? ⁷ Do they not blaspheme the noble name by which you are called?

¹ Listen now, you rich, weep and howl at your miseries which are coming upon you! ² Your riches have decayed, and your garments have become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have become corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You stored up treasure in the last days. ⁴ Indeed, the wages of the laborers who reaped your fields, which were kept back by you, cry out, and the cries of the reapers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You lived luxuriously upon the earth and you lived riotously, you nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned; you have murdered the just. He does not resist you.
