¹ Now it came to pass on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Him ² and they spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?" ³ But He answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, and so tell Me: ⁴ The baptism of John--was it from heaven or from men?" ⁵ And they debated among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ⁶ But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet." ⁷ So they answered that they did not know where it was from. ⁸ And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things." ⁹ Then He began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, leased it to farmers, and went on a journey for a long time. ¹⁰ Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the farmers, that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers flogged him and sent him away empty-handed. ¹¹ And again he sent another servant; and they flogged him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. ¹² And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and threw him out. ¹³ Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Perhaps when they see him they will respect him.' ¹⁴ But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.' ¹⁵ And casting him out of the vineyard, they killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? ¹⁶ He will come and destroy those farmers and give the vineyard to others." And when they heard it they said, "May it never be!" ¹⁷ Then He looked at them and said, "What then is this which is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone'? ¹⁸ "Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." ¹⁹ And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him that very hour, but they were afraid--for they knew that He had spoken this parable against them. ²⁰ And having watched Him closely, they sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor. ²¹ Then they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth: ²² Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" ²³ But perceiving their craftiness, He said to them, "Why do you test Me? ²⁴ Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?" They answered and said, "Caesar's." ²⁵ And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." ²⁶ But they could not catch Him in His words in front of the people. And marveling at His answer, they kept silent. ²⁷ Then some of the Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, coming to Him and asked Him, ²⁸ saying: "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife, and this man dies childless, that his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. ²⁹ Now there were seven brothers. And the first, having taken a wife, died childless. ³⁰ And the second took her as wife, and this man died childless. ³¹ Then the third took her, and in like manner the seven also; and they left no children, and they died. ³² Last of all the woman died also. ³³ Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife does she become? For all seven had her as wife." ³⁴ And Jesus answered and said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. ³⁵ But those who have been counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; ³⁶ nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. ³⁷ Now even Moses revealed that the dead are raised, in the passage about the burning bush, when he called the Lord 'the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' ³⁸ "For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all are alive to Him." ³⁹ Then some of the scribes answered and said, "Teacher, You have spoken well." ⁴⁰ But after that they dared not question Him anymore. ⁴¹ And He said to them, "How do they say that the Christ is the Son of David? ⁴² Even David himself said in the Book of Psalms, 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, ⁴³ till I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet." ' ⁴⁴ "Therefore David calls Him 'Lord'; how is He then his Son?" ⁴⁵ And as all the people listened, He said to His disciples, ⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk about in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, and the first seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at dinners, ⁴⁷ who devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation."

¹ And they numbered the sons of Aaron in their division, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ² And Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar the sons of Aaron ministered as priests. ³ And David distributed them, even Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their numbering, according to their service, according to the houses of their fathers. ⁴ And there were found among the sons of Eleazar more chiefs of the mighty ones, than of the sons of Ithamar. And he divided them, sixteen heads of families to the sons of Eleazar, eight according to their families to the sons of Ithamar. ⁵ And he divided them according to their lots, one with the other; for there were those who had charge of the holy things, and those who had charge of the house of the Lord among the sons of Eleazar, and among the sons of Ithamar. ⁶ And Shemaiah the son of Nethanel, the scribe, of the family of Levi, wrote them down before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were present; and the heads of the families of the priests and the Levites, each of a household were assigned, one to Eleazar, and one to Ithamar. ⁷ And the first lot came out to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, ⁸ the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, ⁹ the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, ¹⁰ the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, ¹¹ the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah, ¹² the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, ¹³ the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, ¹⁴ the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, ¹⁵ the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses, ¹⁶ the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezekel, ¹⁷ the twenty-first to Jachin, the twenty-second to Gamul, ¹⁸ the twenty-third to Delaiah, the twenty-fourth to Maaziah. ¹⁹ This is their numbering according to their service to go into the house of the Lord, according to their appointment by the hand of Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him. ²⁰ And the rest of the sons of Levi, of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah. ²¹ Concerning Rehabiah, the chief was Isshiah, ²² and for Isshiah, Shelomoth; for the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath. ²³ Of the sons of Hebron, Jeriah was the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth. ²⁴ Of the sons of Uzziel, Michah; of the sons of Michah, Shamir. ²⁵ The brother of Michah, Isshiah, the son of Issiah, Zechariah. ²⁶ The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi; the sons of Ozia, ²⁷ That is, the sons of Merari by Ozia, his sons were Beno, Zaccur, and Ibri. ²⁸ To Mahli were born Eleazar, and Ithamar; and Eleazar died, and had no sons. ²⁹ Of Kish: the son of Kish, Jerahmeel. ³⁰ And the sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites according to the houses of their families. ³¹ And they also received lots as their brethren the sons of Aaron before the king; Zadok also, and Ahimelech, and the chiefs of the families of the priests and of the Levites, principal heads of families, even as their younger brethren.

²³ Now as He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?" ²⁴ But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: ²⁵ The baptism of John--where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ²⁶ "But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet." ²⁷ So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

⁵⁵ In that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to arrest Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me.

²⁷ Then they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking about in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him. ²⁸ And they said to Him, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?" ²⁹ But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, and you answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things: ³⁰ The baptism of John--was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me." ³¹ And they were debating with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ³² "But should we say, 'From men' "--they feared the people, for all had counted John to have been a prophet indeed. ³³ And answering they said to Jesus, "We do not know." And Jesus answered and said to them, "Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things."

¹ Now it came to pass afterward, that He was traveling through every city and village, preaching and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God, and the twelve were with Him,

⁴⁷ And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were seeking to destroy Him, ⁴⁸ and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always come together, and in secret I spoke nothing.

¹ Now while they were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,

¹² And they aroused the people and the elders and the scribes; and coming upon him, they seized him, and led him to the council.

¹⁴ And he said, Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? Will you slay me as you slew the Egyptian yesterday? Then Moses was alarmed, and said, If it be thus, this matter has become known.

³⁵ Then they brought him to Jesus. And when they threw their own clothes on the colt, they set Jesus on him. ³⁶ And as He went, they were spreading their clothes under Him on the road. ³⁷ And as He was approaching the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, ³⁸ saying: " 'Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!' Peace in heaven and glory in the highest! " ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees said to Him from the crowd, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." ⁴⁰ But He answered and said to them, "I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out."

⁴⁵ And when He entered into the temple, He began to drive out those buying and selling in it, ⁴⁶ saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?"

²² For the Father judges no one, but He has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ so that all may honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. ²⁴ "Most assuredly I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ Most assuredly I say to you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those having heard shall live. ²⁶ For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, ²⁷ and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

⁷ And they brought them forward and began to inquire, "By what power or by what name have you done this?" ⁸ Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: ⁹ If we today are being judged for a good work to a weak man, by what means he has been made well, ¹⁰ let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this name this man stands here before you whole.

²⁷ "But the one wronging his neighbor pushed him away, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge over us?

³⁵ This Moses whom they denied, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?' This man God sent as a ruler and redeemer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush. ³⁶ He led them out, and did wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years. ³⁷ "This is that Moses who said to the sons of Israel, 'The LORD our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. ³⁸ This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who was speaking to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us, ³⁹ whom our fathers did not desire to be obedient, but they rejected him and returned in their heart back to Egypt,

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, you also do.

² "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands whenever they eat bread." ³ He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God on account of your tradition?

⁶⁸ But if I also question you, you will by no means answer Me or release Me.

⁶ Let your word always be with grace, having been seasoned with salt, to know how you ought to answer each one.

²⁵ and they shall drive you forth from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts, and they shall feed you with grass like an ox, and you shall have your lodging under the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High is Lord of the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses. ²⁶ And whereas they said, Leave the stumps of the roots of the tree; your kingdom shall be assured to you, from the time that you realize the power of the heavens.

⁷ Now as these men were going, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft garments are in kings' houses. ⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.' ¹¹ "Assuredly I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men seize it. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the one who is about to come. ¹⁵ He who has ears to hear, let him hear! ¹⁶ But to what shall I compare this generation? It is similar to children who sit in the marketplaces and call to their playmates, ¹⁷ and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; We mourned to you, and you did not lament.' ¹⁸ "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' ¹⁹ "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' And so wisdom is justified by her children."

¹¹ Jesus answered and said to them, " Elijah truly does come first, and shall restore all things. ¹² But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they desired. Thus also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them."

And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ²⁶ "But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet." ²⁷ So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁸ "But what do you think? A man had two children. And having come to the first, he said, 'Child, go, work today in my vineyard.' ²⁹ "But he answered and said, 'I will not,' but later he regretted it and went. ³⁰ And having come to the other, he said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I am going, sir,' but he did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; but you, having seen, did not repent afterwards, that you might believe him.

²⁸ "For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God for themselves, because they had not been baptized by him. ³¹ "Therefore to what shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? ³² They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we mourned for you, and you did not weep.' ³³ "For John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' ³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' ³⁵ And so wisdom is justified by all her children."

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

¹⁹ And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem so that they might ask him, "Who are you?" ²⁰ He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Messiah." ²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." ²² Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' just as Isaiah the prophet said." ²⁴ Now those who had been sent were from the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. ²⁷ He is the One who comes after me, who has come to be before me, of whom I am not worthy that I should loose the strap of His sandal." ²⁸ These things happened in Bethany, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

¹⁵ John testified concerning Him and has cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me, has come to be before me, because He was before me.' " ¹⁶ And out of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came to be through Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, He who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

³⁰ This is the One about whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who ranks before me, because He was before me.'

³⁴ "And I have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God."

²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, this Man is baptizing, and all men are coming to Him!"

³⁶ He who believes in the Son has eternal life; and he who does not believe the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

³³ You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth. ³⁴ But I do not receive the testimony from man, but these things I say so that you may be saved. ³⁵ He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

²⁵ Now as John was finishing his course, he said, 'Whom do you suppose me to be? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandal of whose feet I am not worthy to loosen.'

⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more than a prophet.

⁵ Though desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they counted him as a prophet.

²⁶ "But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet."

⁴⁶ And seeking to seize Him, they feared the crowds, since they considered Him as a prophet.

⁵ But they said, "Not during the feast, lest a disturbance take place among the people."

¹² And they sought to lay hold of Him, but they feared the crowd, for they knew that He has spoken the parable against them. And leaving Him, they went away.

⁷⁶ "And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,

²⁶ But what have you gone out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.' ²⁸ "For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John.

⁴¹ And many came to Him and said, "John indeed performed no sign, but everything which John said about this Man was true."

²⁶ Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.

⁹ You shall hear indeed, but you shall not understand; and you shall see indeed, but you shall not perceive. ¹⁰ For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

¹¹ O Lord, Your arm is exalted, yet they knew it not; but when they know they shall be ashamed; jealously shall seize upon an untaught nation, and now fire shall devour the adversaries.

⁹ Faint, and be amazed, and be overpowered, not with strong drink, nor with wine. ¹⁰ For the Lord has made you to drink a spirit of deep sleep; and He shall close their eyes, and the eyes of their prophets and of their rulers, who see secret things. ¹¹ And all these things shall be to you as the words of this sealed book, which if they shall give to a learned man, saying, Read this, he shall then say, I cannot read it, for it is sealed. ¹² And this book shall be given into the hands of a man that is unlearned, and one shall say to him, Read this; and he shall say, I am not learned.

¹⁴ Therefore behold, I will proceed to remove this people, and I will remove them; and I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will hide the understanding of the prudent.

²⁸ For from among the nations, behold, there was no one; and of their idols there was none to declare anything; and if I should ask them, Where are you from? They could not answer Me.

¹⁹ And who is blind, but My servants? And who is deaf, but those that rule over them? Yes, the servants of God have been made blind. ²⁰ You have often seen, and have not taken heed; your ears have been opened, and you have not heard.

¹⁸ They have no understanding to perceive; for they have been blinded so that they should not see with their eyes, nor perceive with their heart.

⁷ Even the stork in the heaven knows her time, also the turtledove and wild swallow; the sparrows observe the times of their coming in; but this My people knows not the judgments of the Lord. ⁸ How will you say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? In vain have the scribes used a false pen. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, and alarmed, and taken; because they have rejected the word of the Lord; what wisdom is there in them?

¹⁵ And the Lord said to me, Take to yourself shepherd's implements belonging to an unskillful shepherd.

¹⁷ Alas for the vain shepherds that have forsaken the sheep! The sword shall be upon the arms of such a one, and upon his right eye; his arm shall be completely withered, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty. ⁸ But you have turned aside from the way, and caused many to fail in following the law: you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the Lord Almighty. ⁹ And I have made you despised and cast out among all the people, because you have not kept My ways, but have been partial in the law.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the light, because their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works be exposed.

³⁹ And Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see might become blind."

¹⁰ and in all deception of unrighteousness among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God will send them strong delusion, in order for them to believe the lie, ¹² so that they all might be damned who did not believe the truth, but delighted in unrighteousness.

⁸ And in just the way Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, thus also these resist the truth: men corrupted in mind, disapproved regarding the faith. ⁹ But they shall not advance further, for their folly shall be manifest to all, as also theirs became.

³ knowing this first: that mockers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,

¹² frustrating the counsels of the crafty, and their hands shall not perform the truth: ¹³ who takes the wise in their wisdom, and subverts the counsel of the crafty.

⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you become like him. ⁵ Yet answer a fool according to his folly, lest he seem wise in his own conceit.

¹⁴ Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guides the blind, both will fall into a ditch."

⁴ An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." And leaving them behind He went away.

²⁷ So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

³³ And answering they said to Jesus, "We do not know." And Jesus answered and said to them, "Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things."

¹⁵ So I took of you wise and understanding and prudent men, and I set them to rule over you as rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, and rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens, and officers to your judges. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the cases between your brothers, and judge rightly between a man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ You shall not have respect to persons in judgment, you shall judge small and great equally; you shall not shrink from before the person of a man, for the judgment is God's; and whatsoever matter shall be too hard for you, you shall bring it to me, and I will hear it. ¹⁸ And I charged upon you at that time all the commands which you shall perform.

¹⁸ You shall make for yourself judges and officers in your cities, which the Lord your God gives you in your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment;

⁸ And if a matter shall be too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, and between cause and cause, and between stroke and stroke, and between contradiction and contradiction, matters of judgment in your cities; ⁹ then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God shall choose, and you shall come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge who shall be in those days, and they shall search out the matter and report the judgment to you. ¹⁰ And you shall do according to the sentence which they shall report to you out of the place in which the Lord your God shall choose, and you shall observe to do all things having been appointed to you by the law. ¹¹ You shall do according to the law and to the judgment which they shall declare to you: you shall not swerve to the right hand or to the left from any sentence which they shall report to you. ¹² And any man that shall act in haughtiness, so as not to hearken to the priest who stands to minister in the name of the Lord your God, or the judge who shall preside in those days, that man shall die, and you shall remove the evil one out of Israel. ¹³ And all the people shall hear and fear, and shall no more commit impiety. ¹⁴ And when you shall enter into the land which the Lord your God gives you, and shall inherit it and dwell in it, and shall say, I will set a ruler over me, as also the other nations round about me; ¹⁵ you shall surely set over you the ruler whom the Lord God shall choose: of your brothers you shall set over you a ruler; you shall not have power to set over you a stranger, because he is not your brother.

⁸ You have transplanted a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the heathen, and planted it. ⁹ You made a way before it, and caused its roots to strike, and the land was filled with it. ¹⁰ Its shadow covered the mountains, and its shoots equaled the choice cedars. ¹¹ It sent forth its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the river. ¹² Why have You broken down its hedge, while all that pass by the way pluck it? ¹³ The boar out of the wood has laid it waste, and the wild beast has devoured it. ¹⁴ O God of hosts, turn, we pray; look on us from heaven, and behold and visit this vine;

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard in Baal Hamon; he leased his vineyard to keepers; everyone was to bring for its fruit a thousand pieces of silver. ¹² My vineyard, even mine, is before me; Solomon shall have a thousand, and they that keep its fruit two hundred.

¹ Now I will sing to my Beloved a song of my Beloved concerning His vineyard. My Beloved had a vineyard on a high hill in a fertile place. ² And I made a hedge round it, and dug a trench, and planted a choice vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and dug a place for the wine vat in it; and I waited for it to bring forth grapes, and it brought forth thorns. ³ And now, you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and every man of Judah, judge between Me and My vineyard. ⁴ What shall I do anymore to My vineyard, that I have not done to it? Whereas I expected it to bring forth grapes, but it has brought forth thorns. ⁵ And now I will tell you what I will do to My vineyard; I will take away its hedge, and it shall be for a spoil; and I will pull down its walls, and it shall be left to be trodden down. ⁶ And I will forsake My vineyard; and it shall not be pruned, nor dug, and thorns shall come up upon it as on barren land; and I will command the clouds to rain no rain upon it. ⁷ For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His beloved plant; I expected it to bring forth judgment, and it brought forth iniquity; and not righteousness, but a cry.

²¹ Yet I planted you a fruitful vine, entirely of the right sort — how are you a strange vine turned to bitterness!

³³ "Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to farmers and went on a journey. ³⁴ Now when harvest time of fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, that they might collect his fruits. ³⁵ And the farmers took his servants, they beat one, and one they killed, and another they stoned. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did to them likewise. ³⁷ And at last he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will respect my son.' ³⁸ "But when the farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and let us gain possession of his inheritance.' ³⁹ "And taking him, they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?" ⁴¹ They said to Him, "He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other farmers, who will render to him the fruits in their seasons." ⁴² Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? ⁴³ "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and it shall be given to a nation producing the fruits of it. ⁴⁴ And he who falls on this Stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." ⁴⁵ Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they knew that He was speaking about them. ⁴⁶ And seeking to seize Him, they feared the crowds, since they considered Him as a prophet.

¹⁴ "For it is as if a man leaving on a journey, who called his own servants and handed over his possessions to them.

¹ Then He began to speak to them with parables: "A man planted a vineyard and set a fence around it, dug a wine vat and built a tower. And he leased it to farmers, and went on a journey. ² And at harvest-time he sent a servant to the farmers, in order that he might receive his part from the fruit of the vineyard. ³ And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. ⁴ Again he sent them another servant, and that one they wounded in the head with stones, and they sent him away shamefully treated. ⁵ And again he sent another, and that one they killed, and so with many others, beating some and killing others. ⁶ Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he even sent him to them last, saying, 'They will respect my son.' ⁷ "But those farmers said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' ⁸ "And taking him they killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and will destroy the farmers, and give the vineyard to others. ¹⁰ Have you not even read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. ¹¹ This was the LORD's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?" ¹² And they sought to lay hold of Him, but they feared the crowd, for they knew that He has spoken the parable against them. And leaving Him, they went away.

¹² Therefore He said: "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.

¹ "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. ² Every branch in Me which does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch which bears fruit He prunes, so that it may bear more fruit. ³ You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in Me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit on its own, unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. ⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; because apart from Me you can do nothing. ⁶ If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷ If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what ever you may desire, and it shall be done for you. ⁸ By this My Father is glorified, that you may bear much fruit; and you will become My disciples.

⁶ I planted, Apollos watered, but God gives the increase. ⁷ So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. ⁸ Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. ⁹ For we are coworkers with God; you are God's field, you are God's building.

⁸ And the Lord sent a prophet to the children of Israel; and he said to them, Thus says the Lord God of Israel: I am He that brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and I brought you up out of the house of your bondage. ⁹ And I delivered you out of the hand of Egypt, and out of the hand of all that afflicted you, and I cast them out before you; and I gave you their land. ¹⁰ And I said to you, I am the Lord your God: you shall not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but you did not listen to My voice.

²⁴ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, What sort of a spirit of the Lord has spoken in you?

¹³ And the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, even by the hand of all His prophets, and of every seer, saying, Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My ordinances, and all the law which I commanded your fathers, and all that I sent to them by the hand of My servants the prophets.

¹⁰ And Asa was angry with the prophet, and put him in prison, for he was angry at this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time.

¹⁹ Yet He sent prophets to them, to turn them to the Lord; but they hearkened not; and He testified to them, but they obeyed not. ²⁰ And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood up above the people and said, Thus says the Lord: Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord? So shall you not prosper; for you have forsaken the Lord, and He will forsake you. ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him by command of King Joash in the court of the Lord's house.

¹⁵ And the Lord God of their fathers sent by the hand of His prophets; rising early and sending His messengers, for He had compassion on His people, and His sanctuary. ¹⁶ Nevertheless they sneered at His messengers, and despised His words, and mocked His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose up against His people, till there was no remedy.

²⁶ But they turned, and revolted from You, and cast Your law behind their backs; and they killed Your prophets, who testified against them to turn them back to You, and they worked great provocations.

³⁰ Yet You had patience with them for many years, and testified to them by Your Spirit by the hand of Your prophets: but they hearkened not; so You gave them into the hand of the nations of the land.

³ And he shall be as a tree planted by the brooks of waters, which shall yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf shall not fall off; and whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; you have not received correction. A sword has devoured your prophets as a destroying lion; yet you feared not.

²⁴ And they have not said in their heart, Let us fear now the Lord our God, who gives us the early and latter rain, according to the season of the fulfillment of the ordinance of harvest, and has preserved it for us.

² And he struck him, and cast him into the dungeon which was by the gate of the upper house that was set apart, which was by the house of the Lord.

³ In the thirteenth year of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah, even until this day for twenty-three years, I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, ⁴ and I sent to you My servants the prophets, sending them early; (but you would not listen, nor incline your ear to hear) saying, ⁵ Turn, everyone of you, from his evil way, and from your evil practices, and you shall dwell in the land which I gave to you and your fathers, forever and ever. ⁶ Do not go after strange gods, to serve them, and to worship them, lest you provoke Me by the works of your hands, to do you harm. ⁷ But you hearkened not to Me.

² Thus said the Lord; Stand in the court of the Lord's house, and you shall declare to all the Jews, and to all that come to worship in the house of the Lord, all the words which I commanded you to speak to them; do not leave out one word. ³ Perhaps they will listen, and turn from their evil ways; then I will cease from the evils which I purpose to do to them, because of their evil practices. ⁴ And you shall say, Thus said the Lord: If you will not hearken to Me, to walk in My statutes which I set before you, ⁵ to hearken to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I sent to you early in the morning; yes, I sent them, but you hearkened not to Me; ⁶ then will I make this house as Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse to all the nations of all the earth.

²⁰ And there was another man prophesying in the name of the Lord, Urijah the son of Shemaiah, of Kirjath Jearim; and he prophesied concerning this land according to all the words of Jeremiah. ²¹ And King Jehoiakim and all the princes heard all his words, and sought to kill him; and Urijah heard it and went to Egypt. ²² And the king sent men to Egypt, ²³ and they brought him out, and brought him into the king; and he struck him with the sword, and cast him into the sepulcher of the children of his people. ²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, to prevent his being delivered into the hands of the people, or being killed.

²⁶ The Lord has made you priest in the place of Jehoida the priest, to be ruler in the house of the Lord over every prophet, and to every madman, and you shall put them in prison, and into the dungeon. ²⁷ And now, why have you together reviled Jeremiah of Anathoth, who prophesied to you?

¹⁵ And I sent to you My servants the prophets, saying, Turn, everyone from his evil way, and amend your practices, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell upon the land which I gave to you and to your fathers. But you have not inclined your ears, and you would not listen.

¹⁵ And the princes were very angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and sent him into the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had turned his house into a prison. ¹⁶ So Jeremiah came into the dungeon, and into the cells, and he remained there many days.

⁴ And they said to the king, Let that man be slain, for he weakens the hands of the fighting men that are left in the city, and the hands of all the people, speaking to them according to these words; for this man does not prophesy peace to this people, but evil. ⁵ Then the king said, Behold, he is in your hands. For the king could not resist them. ⁶ And they cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which was in the court of the prison; and they let him down into the pit: and there was no water in the pit, but mire. And he was in the mire.

⁴ Yet I sent to you My servants the prophets early in the morning; and I sent, saying, Do not do this abominable thing which I hate. ⁵ But they hearkened not to Me, and inclined not their ear to turn from their wickedness, so as not to burn incense to strange gods.

⁴ What shall I do unto you, Ephraim? What shall I do to you, Judah? For your mercy is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that goes away. ⁵ Therefore have I mown down your prophets; I have slain them with the word of My mouth; and My judgment shall go forth as the light. ⁶ For I desire mercy rather than sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than whole burnt offerings.

³ And you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord Almighty: Turn to Me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will turn to you, says the Lord of hosts. ⁴ And be not as your fathers, whom the prophets before charged, saying, Thus says the Lord Almighty: Turn from your evil ways, and from your evil practices: but they did not hear, nor heed Me, says the Lord. ⁵ Where are your fathers, and the prophets? Will they live forever? ⁶ But do you receive My words and My ordinances, all that I command by My Spirit to My servants the prophets, who lived in the days of your fathers? And they answered and said, As the Lord Almighty determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so has He done to us.

⁹ Thus says the Lord Almighty; Judge righteous judgment, and deal mercifully and compassionately, everyone with his brother, ¹⁰ and oppress not the widow, or the fatherless, or the stranger, or the poor; and let not one of you remember in his heart the injury of his brother. ¹¹ But they refused to attend, and madly turned their back, and made their ears heavy, so that they should not hear. ¹² And they made their heart disobedient, so as not to hearken to My law, and the words which the Lord Almighty sent forth by His Spirit by the former prophets: so there was great wrath from the Lord Almighty. ¹³ Therefore it came to pass, that as He spoke and they did not listen, so they shall cry, and I will not listen, says the Lord Almighty.

Because you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Consequently, you bear witness to and approve of the deeds of your fathers; because they indeed killed them, but you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,' ⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required from this generation,

³⁴ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

¹⁶ You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you may ask the Father in My name He may give to you.

⁴ Therefore, my brothers, you also were put to death to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another--to Him who was raised from the dead, so that we might bear fruit to God.

¹ Israel is a vine with choice branches, her fruit is abundant: according to the multitude of her fruits she has multiplied her altars; according to the wealth of his land, he has set up pillars.

³⁰ and say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' ³¹ "So that you testify against yourselves that you are sons of those who killed the prophets. ³² And you, fill up then, the measure of your fathers' guilt. ³³ Serpents! Brood of vipers! How shall you escape from the condemnation of hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and you will crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and you will persecute from city to city, ³⁵ so that on you may come all the righteous blood being shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold about the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers,

² But suffering before and being spitefully treated at Philippi, just as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much conflict.

³⁶ Still others took a trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and of prison. ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tried, they were slain, being murdered with the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, being in want, being afflicted, being ill treated,

⁴ What shall I do anymore to My vineyard, that I have not done to it? Whereas I expected it to bring forth grapes, but it has brought forth thorns.

³ Perhaps the house of Judah will hear all the evils which I purpose to do to them; that they may turn from their evil way; and so I will be merciful to their iniquities and their sins.

⁷ Perhaps their supplication will come before the Lord, and they will turn from their evil way; for great is the wrath and the anger of the Lord, which He has pronounced against this people.

⁴ What shall I do unto you, Ephraim? What shall I do to you, Judah? For your mercy is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that goes away.

⁸ How shall I deal with you, O Ephraim? How shall I protect you, O Israel? What shall I do with you? I will make you as Adamah, and as Zeboiim; My heart is turned at once, My repentance is powerfully excited.

¹⁷ And behold, a voice came out of the heavens, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I have found delight."

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"

³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!"

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ¹⁷ For God did not send His Son into the world so that He might condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. ³⁶ He who believes in the Son has eternal life; and he who does not believe the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

³ For what was impossible for the law to do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and concerning sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

⁴ But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁹ By this the love of God is manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, in order that we might live through Him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if in this way God loved us, indeed we ought to love one another. ¹² No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. ¹³ (By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.) ¹⁴ And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. ¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

¹⁸ And they spied him from a distance before he came near them, and they wickedly took counsel to kill him. ¹⁹ And each said to his brother, Look, here comes that dreamer! ²⁰ Now then come, let us kill him, and cast him into one of the pits; and we will say, An evil wild beast has devoured him; and we shall see what his dreams will be.

¹ Why did the heathen rage, and the nations imagine vain things? ² The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers gathered themselves together, against the Lord, and against His Christ; ³ saying, Let us break through Their bonds, and cast away Their yoke from us. ⁴ He that dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn, and the Lord shall mock them. ⁵ Then shall He speak to them in His anger, and trouble them in His fury. ⁶ But I have been made King by Him on Zion His holy mountain,

⁸ Ask of Me, and I shall give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.

²⁷ And I will make him My firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

² saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East, and have come to worship Him." ³ But when Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And having gathered together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired from them where the Christ would be born. ⁵ So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ⁶ 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come forth a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.' " ⁷ Then Herod, secretly having called the wise men, ascertained from them the time that the star appeared. ⁸ And having sent them to Bethlehem, he said, "Go and carefully search for the young Child, and as soon as you find Him, report back to me, so that I also may come and worship Him." ⁹ When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. ¹⁰ And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. ¹¹ And having come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and falling down, they worshipped Him, and opening their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ¹² And having been divinely instructed in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew into their own country by another way. ¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, and take along the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is about to seek the young Child to destroy Him." ¹⁴ When he arose, he took along the young Child and His mother by night and withdrew into Egypt, ¹⁵ and was there until the death of Herod, so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son." ¹⁶ Then Herod, seeing that he had been deceived by the wise men, was greatly enraged; and he sent and executed all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men.

⁷ But they were reasoning among themselves, saying, "We did not take bread."

²⁵ The baptism of John--where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

²¹ The governor answered and said to them, "Which of the two do you wish me to release to you?" They said, "Barabbas!" ²² Pilate said to them, "What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said to him, "Let Him be crucified!" ²³ Then the governor said, "Why, what evil did He do?" But they cried out all the more, saying, "Let Him be crucified!" ²⁴ And Pilate, seeing that nothing was being gained, but rather a riot was starting, taking water, he washed his hands clean in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this just Man. You see to it." ²⁵ And all the people answered and said, "His blood be on us and on our children."

⁴⁷ And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were seeking to destroy Him,

⁵ And they debated among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

¹⁹ And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him that very hour, but they were afraid--for they knew that He had spoken this parable against them.

² And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.

⁴⁷ Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What are we doing? For this Man works many signs. ⁴⁸ If we leave Him alone in this way, all will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and will take away both our place and our nation." ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You don't know anything, ⁵⁰ nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish."

²³ Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you took, and by lawless hands, nailing Him to a cross, you killed Him;

¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer together, so that we may also be glorified together.

² has in these last days spoken to us by the Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

³⁷ And at last he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will respect my son.' ³⁸ "But when the farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and let us gain possession of his inheritance.' ³⁹ "And taking him, they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?"

⁶ Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he even sent him to them last, saying, 'They will respect my son.' ⁷ "But those farmers said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' ⁸ "And taking him they killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and will destroy the farmers, and give the vineyard to others.

¹² Therefore Jesus also, so that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

³⁶ Behold, we are servants this day, and as for the land which You gave to our fathers, to eat the fruit of it and the good things of it, behold, we are servants upon it; ³⁷ and its produce is abundant for the kings whom You appointed over us because of our sins; and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, as it pleases them, and we are in great affliction.

⁸ Ask of Me, and I shall give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. ⁹ You shall rule them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces as a potter's vessel.

⁸ Let Your hand be found by all Your enemies; let Your right hand find all that hate You. ⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven at the time of Your presence; the Lord shall trouble them in His anger, and fire shall devour them. ¹⁰ You shall destroy their fruit from the earth, and their seed from among the sons of men.

⁴¹ They said to Him, "He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other farmers, who will render to him the fruits in their seasons."

⁷ And when that king heard, he was furious. And he sent out his troops, and he destroyed those murderers, and he burned up their city.

²⁷ Nevertheless bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.' "

⁴⁶ But Paul and Barnabas, speaking boldly said, "It was necessary for the word of God to be spoken to you first; but since you thrust it away, and judge yourselves not worthy of eternal life; behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord, even the Lord, Behold, I lay for the foundations of Zion a costly stone, a choice cornerstone and precious, for its foundations; and he that believes on Him shall by no means be ashamed.

^{9 (3:10)} For as for the stone which I have set before the face of Joshua, on the one stone are seven eyes: behold, I am digging a trench, says the Lord Almighty, and I will search out all the iniquity of that land in one day.

⁴² Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?

⁵ And looking around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.

²³ And looking around, Jesus says to His disciples, "How difficult it is for those having riches to enter the kingdom of God!"

¹⁰ Have you not even read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.

⁴¹ And as He drew near, seeing the city, He wept over it,

³⁷ For I say to you that this which has been written must still be accomplished in Me--the saying, 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me have a fulfillment."

⁶¹ And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times."

⁴⁴ Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."

²⁵ But this was so that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without cause.'

¹¹ This is the 'stone which was rejected by you, the builders, which became the chief cornerstone.'

⁷ Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone," ⁸ and "a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

¹⁴ And if you shall trust in Him, He shall be to you for a sanctuary; and you shall not come against Him as against a stumbling stone, neither as against the falling of a rock; but the houses of Jacob are in a snare, and those who dwell in Jerusalem are in a pit. ¹⁵ Therefore many among them shall be weak and fall, and be crushed; and they shall draw near, and men shall be taken securely.

³⁴ You saw until a stone was cut out of a mountain without hands, and it struck the image upon its feet of iron and clay, and utterly reduced them to powder. ³⁵ Then once for all the clay, the iron, the brass, the silver, and the gold were ground into powder, and became as chaff from the summer threshing floor. And the violence of the wind carried them away, and no place was found for them. And the stone which had struck the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings the God of heaven shall set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and His kingdom shall not be left to another people, but it shall beat to pieces and grind to powder all other kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. ⁴⁵ Whereas you saw that a stone was cut out of a mountain without hands, and it beat to pieces the clay, the iron, the brass, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what must happen hereafter: and the dream is true, and its interpretation is sure.

³ And it shall come to pass in that day that I will make Jerusalem a trodden stone to all the nations; everyone that tramples on it shall utterly mock at it, and all the nations of the earth shall be gathered together against it.

³⁴ Now when harvest time of fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, that they might collect his fruits.

⁴⁴ And he who falls on this Stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."

¹⁶ forbidding us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but the wrath of God has come upon them to the uttermost.

³ Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people were assembled into the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ and plotted to take Jesus by guile and kill Him.

¹⁴ But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.'

² And Joab sent to Tekoa, and took from there a cunning woman, and said to her, Mourn, and put on mourning apparel, and anoint yourself not with oil, and you shall be as a woman mourning for one that is dead thus for many days.

³² The sinner watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him. ³³ But the Lord will not leave him in his hands, nor by any means condemn him when he is judged.

¹² While they pressed hard upon me that sought my soul; and they that sought my hurt spoke vanities, and devised deceits all the day.

³ Say unto God, How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.

¹⁵ The Lord's enemies would have lied to Him; but their time shall be forever.

²⁰ The lawless man has been brought down, and the proud man has perished, and they that transgress mischievously have been utterly destroyed; ²¹ and they that cause men to sin by a word; and men shall make all that reprove in the gates an offense, because they have unjustly turned aside the righteous.

¹⁹ But I, as an innocent lamb led to the slaughter, did not know. Against me they devised an evil device, saying, Come and let us put wood into his bread, and let us utterly destroy him from off the land of the living, and let his name not be remembered any more.

¹⁸ Then they said, Come, and let us devise a plan against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us attack him with the tongue, and we will hear all his words.

¹⁰ For I have heard the reproach of many gathering round, saying, Conspire, and let us conspire together against him, even all his friends. Watch his intentions, if perhaps he shall be deceived, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall be avenged on him.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might trap Him in His speech. ¹⁶ And they sent their disciples to Him with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You show favoritism to anyone. ¹⁷ Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show Me the tax money." So they brought Him a denarius. ²⁰ And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" ²¹ They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." ²² When they had heard these words, they marveled, and leaving Him, they went away.

² And they were observing Him, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.

⁵⁴ lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something He might say, so that they might accuse Him.

²⁶ But they could not catch Him in His words in front of the people. And marveling at His answer, they kept silent.

²⁸ Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, lest they might be defiled, but so that they might eat the Passover. ²⁹ Then Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?" ³⁰ They answered and said to him, "If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him over to you." ³¹ Then Pilate said to them, "You take Him and judge Him according to your law." Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to kill anyone," ³² that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which He said, signifying by what sort of death He was about to die.

³ And by covetousness they will exploit you with fabricated words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction will not sleep.

⁷ And now let the fear of the Lord be upon you, and be wary, and do your duty; for there is no unrighteousness with the Lord our God, neither is it for Him to respect persons, or to take bribes.

¹⁹ Such a one as would not reverence the face of an honorable man, neither knows how to give honor to the great, so as that their persons should be respected.

² Everyone has spoken vanity to his neighbor: their lips are deceitful, they have spoken with a double heart.

²¹ They were scattered at the anger of His countenance, and his heart drew near to them. His words were smoother than oil, yet they are darts.

² to Jeremiah the prophet, and said to him, Let now our supplication come before your face, and pray to the Lord your God for this remnant; for we are left but a few out of many, as your eyes see. ³ And let the Lord your God declare to us the way in which we should walk, and the thing which we should do.

² This man came to Him by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."

³⁴ And Peter, opening his mouth, said: "In truth I comprehend that God is not One to show partiality. ³⁵ But in every nation, he that fears Him and works righteousness is acceptable to Him.

¹⁷ For we are not as the rest, corrupting the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

¹⁰ For do I just now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

⁶ But from those who seemed to be something--whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows partiality to no man--so to me, those with influence contributed nothing,

⁴ but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who is testing our hearts. ⁵ For neither were we using flattering speech, as you know, nor covering up greed, God is our witness.

¹⁵ you shall surely set over you the ruler whom the Lord God shall choose: of your brothers you shall set over you a ruler; you shall not have power to set over you a stranger, because he is not your brother.

¹³ Now then let it be known to the king, that if that city be built up, and its walls completed, you shall have no tribute, neither will they pay any tribute, and this injures kings.

¹⁹ And a decree has been made by me, and we have examined, and found that city of old time exalts itself against kings, and that rebellions and desertions take place within it. ²⁰ And there were powerful kings in Jerusalem, and they ruled over all the country beyond the river, and abundant revenues and tribute were given to them. ²¹ Now therefore make a decree to stop the work of those men, and that city shall no more be built. ²² See that you be careful of the decree, not to be remiss concerning this matter, lest at any time destruction should abound to the harm of kings.

⁷ From the days of our fathers we have been in a great trespass until this day; and because of our iniquities we, and our kings, and our children, have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the Gentiles by the sword, by captivity, by spoil, and with shame of our face, as at this day.

⁴ And some said, We have borrowed money for the king's tributes — our fields, and our vineyards, and houses are pledged.

³⁷ and its produce is abundant for the kings whom You appointed over us because of our sins; and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, as it pleases them, and we are in great affliction.

²⁵ He said, "Yes." And when he entered into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?"

¹⁷ Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show Me the tax money." ³⁷ After this arose Judas the Galilean, in the days of the census, and caused considerable number of people after him to revolt. That one also perished, and as many as were persuaded by him were dispersed.

⁹ where your fathers tested Me, and tried Me, and saw My works.

¹ Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him, they asked Him to show them a sign out of heaven.

¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?

²² But when Jesus perceived their reasonings, He answered and said to them, "Why are you reasoning in your hearts?

⁸ But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, "Arise and stand in the midst." And he arose and stood.

¹⁶ But others, testing Him, were seeking from Him a sign from heaven. ¹⁷ But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is made desolate, and a house divided against a house falls.

⁵³ And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be dreadfully hostile, and to cross-examine Him about many things, ⁵⁴ lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something He might say, so that they might accuse Him.

²⁰ And having watched Him closely, they sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor.

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust Himself to them, because He knew all men, ²⁵ and had no need that anyone should testify concerning man, for He himself knew what was in man.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness";

⁹ nor let us tempt Christ, just as also some of them tempted Him, and were destroyed by the serpents;

¹³ And there is no creature hidden before Him, but all things are naked and open to His eyes, to whom we must give an account.

²⁸ But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. And taking hold of him, he was choking him, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!'

² And having agreed with the workers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

¹ And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a census be taken of all the empire.

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontius Pilate was governing Judea, and while Herod governed as tetrarch of Galilee, and while Philip his brother governed as tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and while Lysanias governed as tetrarch of Abilene,

²² Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"

² And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this Man perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King."

²⁸ And rising up, one of them named Agabus, foretold by the Spirit of a great famine about to happen in all the world, which also came to pass in the time of Claudius Caesar.

⁸ while he defended himself, saying, "Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar did I commit any sin." ⁹ But Festus, desiring to grant a favor to the Jews, answered Paul and said, "Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and there be judged before me concerning these things?" ¹⁰ But Paul said, "I am standing before the judicial bench of Caesar, by whom it is necessary for me to be judged. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as also you know very well. ¹¹ For if I am doing wrong, and have done anything worthy of death, I am not trying to escape a death sentence; but if there is nothing in these things of which these people are accusing me, no one is able to deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar." ¹² Then Festus, having talked together with the council, answered, " Have you appealed to Caesar? Before Caesar you shall go!"

³² Then Agrippa said to Festus, "This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar."

²² All the saints greet you, but especially those of the household of Caesar.

²¹ My son, fear God and the king, and do not disobey either of them.

²⁷ Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, and cast in a hook, and take the first fish coming up. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a coin; taking that, give it to them for Me and you."

²¹ They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they marveled at Him.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them and said, "Whether it is right before God to hear you rather than God, you judge. ²⁰ For we can do none other but to speak the things which we saw and heard.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered, and said: "We must obey God rather than men.

⁶ For on account of this you also pay taxes, for they are ministers of God, always giving attention to this very thing. ⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

³¹ Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.

¹³ Therefore subject yourselves to every human institution on account of the Lord: whether to the king as to one having authority, ¹⁴ or to governors, as to those being sent for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those doing good. ¹⁵ For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may silence the ignorance of foolish men-- ¹⁶ as free, yet not using freedom as a cover for wickedness, but as bondservants of God. ¹⁷ Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

¹¹ If anyone speaks, let him speak as the utterances of God. If anyone serves, let him serve as from strength, as God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

¹² So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding clothes?' And he was speechless.

²² When they had heard these words, they marveled, and leaving Him, they went away.

³⁴ But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

¹⁷ And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things which were done by Him.

³⁹ Then some of the scribes answered and said, "Teacher, You have spoken well." ⁴⁰ But after that they dared not question Him anymore.

¹⁹ Now we know that as many things as the law says, it speaks to those under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

¹⁰ For there are also many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,

⁶ Then Jesus said to them, "Look out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."

¹² Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

²³ The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him, and they questioned Him, ²⁴ saying: "Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife as next of kin, and shall raise up offspring for his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died, after having married, and having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother. ²⁶ Likewise the second also, and the third, up to the seventh. ²⁷ Last of all the woman died also. ²⁸ Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her." ²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection neither do they marry, nor are they given in marriage, but they are like angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, ³² 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." ³³ And when the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.

¹⁸ Then some Sadducees came to Him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked Him, saying: ¹⁹ "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies and leaves behind a wife and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. ²⁰ Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife and he died, and left no offspring. ²¹ And the second took her, and died; nor did he leave any offspring. And the third likewise. ²² So the seven had her and left no offspring. Last of all the woman died also. ²³ Therefore, in the resurrection, when they shall arise, whose wife of them will she be? For all seven had her as wife." ²⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, "Are you not mistaken because of this, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? ²⁵ For whenever they rise from among the dead, neither do they marry nor are they given in marriage, but they are like angels in heaven. ²⁶ But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in connection with the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? ²⁷ He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. Therefore you are greatly mistaken."

¹ Now while they were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, ² being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.

¹⁷ Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,

⁶ But when Paul perceived that one part was of the Sadducees and the other of the Pharisees, he cried out in the Sanhedrin, "Men, brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!" ⁷ And when he had spoken this, there came to be a dispute between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection-nor angel nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.

¹² Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

¹⁷ And their word will spread like gangrene; of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸ who have strayed concerning the truth, asserting that the resurrection has already occurred; and they overturn the faith of some.

⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her as her brother-in-law, and raise up seed to your brother.

¹¹ And Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow in the house of your father-in-law, until Shelah my son is grown; for he said, lest he also die as his brothers; and Tamar departed, and sat in the house of her father.

²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said, Tamar is more righteous than I, because I did not give her to Shelah my son: and he never knew her again.

⁵ And if brothers should live together, and one of them should die, and should not have seed, the wife of the deceased shall not marry out of the family to a man not related: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and shall take her to himself for a wife, and shall dwell with her. ⁶ And it shall come to pass that the child which she shall bear, shall be named by the name of the deceased, and his name shall not be blotted out of Israel. ⁷ And if the man should not be willing to take his brother's wife, then shall the woman go up to the gate to the elders, and she shall say, My husband's brother will not raise up the name of his brother in Israel, my husband's brother has refused. ⁸ And the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him; and if he stand and say, I will not take her, ⁹ then his brother's wife shall come forward before the elders, and shall loose one shoe from off his foot, and shall spit in his face, and shall answer and say, Thus shall they do to the man who will not build his brother's house in Israel. ¹⁰ And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that has had his shoe loosed.

¹¹ And Naomi said, Return now, my daughters; and why do you go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb to be your husbands? ¹² Turn now, my daughters, for I am too old to be married: for I said, Suppose I were married, and should bear sons;

²⁰ Whosoever shall lie with his near kinswoman, has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin to him: they shall die childless.

³⁰ Write this man down as childless; for by no means shall his seed ever grow up to sit on the throne of David, or be as a prince yet in Judah.

¹⁰ And all that generation were laid to their fathers: and another generation rose up after them, who knew not the Lord, nor yet the work which He wrought in Israel.

⁴ A generation goes, and a generation comes; but the earth abides forever.

⁵ For the living will know that they shall die; but the dead know nothing, and there is no longer any reward to them, for their memory is lost.

²⁷ And just as it is appointed for men once to die, and after this judgment,

²⁴ saying: "Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife as next of kin, and shall raise up offspring for his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died, after having married, and having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother. ²⁶ Likewise the second also, and the third, up to the seventh. ²⁷ Last of all the woman died also. ²⁸ Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her."

¹⁹ "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies and leaves behind a wife and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. ²⁰ Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife and he died, and left no offspring. ²¹ And the second took her, and died; nor did he leave any offspring. And the third likewise. ²² So the seven had her and left no offspring. Last of all the woman died also. ²³ Therefore, in the resurrection, when they shall arise, whose wife of them will she be? For all seven had her as wife."

⁸ So the master praised the unrighteous manager because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this age are shrewder in their own generation than the sons of light.

²⁷ They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

² Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. ³ Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. ⁴ The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. ⁵ Do not deprive one another, except by mutual agreement, and that for a season, so that you may devote yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, lest Satan tempt you because of your lack of self-control. ⁶ But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment. ⁷ For I wish that all men would be as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this way and another in that. ⁸ But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they should remain as I also remain; ⁹ but if they are not exercising self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. ¹⁰ Now to those who have married I command, yet not I, but the Lord: A wife is not to be separated from her husband-- ¹¹ and even if she does separate, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband--and a husband is not to divorce his wife. ¹² But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she consents to live with him, let him not divorce her. ¹³ And a wife who has an unbelieving husband, if he consents to live with her, let her not divorce him. ¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbelieving spouse separates, let him or her separate; the brother or the sister has not been bound in such cases; but God has called us to peace. ¹⁶ For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?

³¹ "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."

⁴ Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproach and everlasting shame. ³ And the wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and some of the many righteous as the stars forever and ever.

³² And whoever says a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the coming one.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

²⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, "Are you not mistaken because of this, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God?

³⁶ Watch therefore, praying always that you may be counted worthy to escape everything that is about to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."

²⁹ and shall come forth--those who have done good, to a resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to a resurrection of condemnation.

⁴¹ Then they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing because they were counted worthy to be dishonored on behalf of the name of Jesus.

¹⁵ having hope in God, which even they themselves are waiting for, that there is going to be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

⁵ which is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, so that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, on behalf of which you also suffer;

³⁵ Women received their dead back by resurrection. And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, in order that they might obtain a better resurrection.

⁴ You have a few names in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, because they are worthy.

⁸ Death has prevailed and swallowed men up; but again the Lord God has taken away every tear from every face. He has taken away the reproach of His people from all the earth; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

¹⁴ I will deliver them out of the power of Hades, and will redeem them from death. O death, where is your punishment? O Hades, where is your sting? Comfort is hidden from My eyes.

^{7 (3:8)} Thus says the Lord Almighty; If you will walk in My ways, and take heed to My charges, then shall you judge My house: and if you will diligently keep My court, then will I give you men to walk in the midst of these that stand here.

³⁰ For in the resurrection neither do they marry, nor are they given in marriage, but they are like angels of God in heaven.

²⁵ For whenever they rise from among the dead, neither do they marry nor are they given in marriage, but they are like angels in heaven.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer together, so that we may also be glorified together. ¹⁸ For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the coming glory to be revealed in us. ¹⁹ For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly awaits the unveiling of the sons of God. ²⁰ For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but on account of Him who subjected it in hope; ²¹ because even the creation itself shall be freed from the slavery of corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. ²² For we know that all the creation groans together and labors in birth together until now. ²³ And not only that, but also we ourselves having the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting adoption, the redemption of our body.

²⁶ The last enemy that will be abolished is death.

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.

⁴⁹ And just as we have borne the image of the man made of dust, let us also bear the image of the heavenly Man.

⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ So when this corruptible should put on incorruption, and this mortal should put on immortality, then will come to pass the word which was written: "Death was swallowed up in victory."

²¹ who will transform our lowly body, that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subject all things to Himself.

¹³ Now we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who have died, lest you be sorrowful as those who have no hope. ¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, thus also God will bring with Him those who die in Jesus. ¹⁵ For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall by no means precede those who are dead. ¹⁶ Because the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. ¹⁷ Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! On account of this the world does not know you, because it did not know Him. ² Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.

⁶ And I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living beings, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. ⁷ Then He came and took out of the right hand of Him that sat on the throne. ⁸ And when He took the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls being filled with incense, which are the prayers of the saints. ⁹ And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; because You were slain, and You redeemed us to God by Your blood, out of every tribe and language and people and nation; ¹⁰ and have made them kings and priests to our God; and they will reign on the earth." ¹¹ Then I looked, and I heard as it were the voice of many angels around the throne, and the living beings, and the elders. And the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and a thousand thousands, ¹² saying with a loud voice: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive the power and the wealth and wisdom and strength, and honor and glory and blessing!" ¹³ And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: "Blessing and honor and glory and power to Him that sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever. Amen!" ¹⁴ -and the four living beings said "Amen!" And the elders fell down and worshipped.

⁹ After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, out of every nation, and from tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, having been clothed in long white robes, with palm branches in their hands. ¹⁰ And they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God, to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" ¹¹ And all the angels stood around the throne, and the elders and the four living beings, and they fell down on their faces before His throne and they worshipped God, ¹² saying: "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen."

⁶ Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection. Over these the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him for a thousand years.

⁴ And He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying out; neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things have passed away."

² In the middle of its street, and on both sides of the river was the tree of life, producing twelve fruits, each yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. ³ And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants will minister to Him. ⁴ And they shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. ⁵ And night shall not exist. and there shall not be a need of a lamp and of light, because the Lord God shall illuminate them. And they shall reign forever and ever.

⁹ Then he said to me, "See that you do not! For I am your fellow servant, and I am of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."

⁷ And I will establish My covenant between you and your seed after you, to their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be your God, and the God of your seed after you.

¹³ And the Lord stood upon it, and said, I am the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; fear not, the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your seed.

²¹ and bring me back in safety to the house of my father, then shall the Lord be my God.

⁹ And Jacob said, God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O Lord, You are He that said to me, Depart quickly to the land of your birth, and I will do you good.

² And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in flaming fire out of the bush, and he saw that the bush burned with fire, but the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, I will go near and see this great sight, why the bush is not consumed. ⁴ And when the Lord saw that he drew near to see, the Lord called him out of the bush, saying, Moses, Moses. And he said, What is it? ⁵ And He said, Draw no closer! Loose your sandals from off your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground. ⁶ And He said, I am the God of your father — the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses turned away his face, for he was afraid to gaze at God.

¹⁵ And God said again to Moses, Thus shall you say to the sons of Israel: The Lord God of our fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you: this is My name forever, and My memorial to all generations.

¹⁶ and of the fullness of the land in season; and let the things pleasing to him that dwelt in the bush come on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of him who was glorified above his brethren.

³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they did not want to come. ⁴ Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Say to those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding." ' ⁵ "But not caring, they went away, one to his own field, another to his business. ⁶ And the rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. ⁷ And when that king heard, he was furious. ³⁰ And forty years having been fulfilled, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai. ³¹ And Moses, seeing it, marveled at the sight; and as he approached it to observe closely, the voice of the Lord came to him, ³² saying, 'I am the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses was trembling and was not bold enough not look closely.

⁵ The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup: You are He that restores my inheritance to me. ⁶ The lines have fallen to me in the best places; yea, I have a most excellent heritage. ⁷ I will bless the Lord who has instructed me; my reins too have chastened me even till night. ⁸ I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. ⁹ Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue exalted; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: ¹⁰ because You will not leave my soul in Hades, neither will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. ¹¹ You have made known to me the ways of life; You will fill me with joy with Your countenance: at Your right hand there are delights forever.

²³ You that fear the Lord, praise Him; all you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him; let all the seed of Israel fear Him. ²⁴ For He has not despised nor been angry at the supplication of the poor; nor turned away His face from Me; but when I cried to Him, He heard Me. ²⁵ My praise is of You in the great congregation; I will pay My vows before them that fear Him. ²⁶ The poor shall eat and be satisfied; and they shall praise the Lord that seek Him; their heart shall live forever.

¹ David's Psalm of praise. I will exalt You, my God, my king; and I will bless Your name forever and ever. ² Every day will I bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever.

⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He that believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. ²⁶ And everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

¹⁹ "Yet a little while and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.

⁷ For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. ⁸ For whether we live, we live to the Lord; and whether we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live, or whether we die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, so that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

¹⁶ And what union is there for the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, just as God has said: "I will dwell in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

⁴ For although He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we are weak in Him, yet we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.

³ For you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ Whenever Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

¹⁶ But now they desire a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and they serve Him day and night in His temple. And He that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; nor shall the sun by any means strike them, nor any scorching heat; ¹⁷ because the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shepherds them, and He leads them to the springs of the waters of life. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

³⁴ But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. ³⁵ Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, ³⁶ "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" ³⁷ Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

²⁸ Then one of the scribes came, after he heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?" ²⁹ Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD. ³⁰ ' And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. ³¹ And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." ³² So the scribe said to Him, "Well said, Teacher, in truth You said that He is one, and there is no other besides Him. ³³ And to love Him with the whole heart, and with the whole understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." ³⁴ Now when Jesus saw that he answered intelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared any longer to question Him.

⁹ And there came to be a great outcry, and the scribes of the Pharisees' party stood up and contended sharply, saying, "We find no evil in this man; but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God."

⁵ Yet answer a fool according to his folly, lest he seem wise in his own conceit.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him any longer.

³⁴ Now when Jesus saw that he answered intelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared any longer to question Him.

⁶ For a Child is born to us, and a Son is given to us, whose government is upon His shoulder; and His name is called the Messenger of great counsel; for I will bring peace upon the princes, and health to Him. ⁷ His government shall be great, and of His peace there is no end; it shall be upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to establish it, and to support it with judgment and with righteousness, from this time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.

¹ And there shall come forth a Rod out of the root of Jesse, and a blossom shall come up from his root; ² and the Spirit of God shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and godliness shall fill Him;

⁵ Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous branch, and a king shall reign and understand, and shall execute judgment and righteousness on the earth. ⁶ In his days both Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell securely. And this is his name, which the Lord shall call Him, Josedek among the prophets.

⁴¹ And when the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, ⁴² saying, "What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?" ³⁸ And he shouted, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" ³⁹ Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me!"

⁴² Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?"

³⁰ "Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to seat Him on his throne,

³ concerning His Son, who came of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

¹⁶ I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify these things to you for the churches. I am the Root and the Stock of David, the Bright and Morning Star."

¹ And these are the last words of David. Faithful is David the son of Jesse, and faithful is the man whom the Lord has raised up to be the anointed of the God of Jacob, and beautiful are the psalms of Israel. ² The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue.

¹ A Psalm of David. The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool.

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms: 'Let his homestead become desolate, and let no one dwell in it'; and, 'May another take his office of overseer. '

³⁴ "For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, ³⁵ Till I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet."

³³ that God has fulfilled this promise for us to their children, when He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: 'You are My Son, today I have begotten You.' ³⁴ "And that He raised Him from the dead, no longer being about to return to corruption, thus He has said: 'I will give you the sure decrees of God concerning David.' ³⁵ "Therefore also in another Psalm He says, 'You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.'

²⁵ For He must reign till He puts all His enemies under His feet.

¹³ But to which of the angels has He ever said: "Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet"?

⁷ Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you will hear His voice,

¹ Why did the heathen rage, and the nations imagine vain things? ² The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers gathered themselves together, against the Lord, and against His Christ; ³ saying, Let us break through Their bonds, and cast away Their yoke from us. ⁴ He that dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn, and the Lord shall mock them. ⁵ Then shall He speak to them in His anger, and trouble them in His fury. ⁶ But I have been made King by Him on Zion His holy mountain, ⁷ declaring the ordinance of the Lord: the Lord has said to Me, You are My Son, today I have begotten You.

⁸ Let Your hand be found by all Your enemies; let Your right hand find all that hate You. ⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven at the time of Your presence; the Lord shall trouble them in His anger, and fire shall devour them. ¹⁰ You shall destroy their fruit from the earth, and their seed from among the sons of men. ¹¹ For they intended evil against You; they imagined a device which they shall by no means be able to perform. ¹² For You shall make them turn their back in Your latter end; You will prepare their face.

⁹ The Ethiopians shall fall down before Him, and His enemies shall lick the dust.

⁴ Instead of loving me, they falsely accused me; but I continued to pray. ⁵ And they rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. ⁶ Set a sinner against him; and let an accuser stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he is judged, let him go forth condemned; and let his prayer become sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; and let another take his office of overseer. ⁹ Let his children be orphans, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children wander without a dwelling place and beg; let them be cast out of their habitations. ¹¹ Let his creditor exact all that belongs to him; and let strangers spoil his labors. ¹² Let him have no helper; neither let there be anyone to have compassion on his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his children be given up to utter destruction; in one generation let his name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be before the Lord continually; and let their memorial be blotted out from the earth. ¹⁶ Because he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the needy and poor man, that he might even slay the broken in heart. ¹⁷ He loved cursing also, and it shall come upon him; and he took not pleasure in blessing, so it shall be removed far from him. ¹⁸ Yea, he put on cursing as a garment, and it has come as water into his bowels, and as oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as a garment which he puts on, and as a girdle with which he girds himself continually. ²⁰ This is the dealing of the Lord with those who falsely accuse me, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

⁵ The Lord at Your right hand has dashed in pieces kings in the day of His wrath. ⁶ He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill up the number of corpses, He shall crush the heads of many on the earth.

¹⁴ And the armies in heaven were following Him on white horses, having been dressed in fine linen, white and clean. ¹⁵ And out of His mouth proceeds a sharp, double-edged sword, so that with it He might strike the nations. And He will shepherd them with an iron rod. And He treads the winepress of the wine of the wrath of Almighty God. ¹⁶ And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name having been written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. ¹⁷ Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the great supper of God, ¹⁸ so that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who ride on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great." ¹⁹ And I saw the Beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, having been gathered together to make war against Him who rode on the horse and against His army. ²⁰ Then the Beast was apprehended, and with him the False Prophet who had performed the signs before him, by which he had deceived those who received the mark of the Beast and those who worshipped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were slain with the sword which proceeds from the mouth of Him who rode on the horse. And all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive in the womb, and shall bring forth a son, and you shall call His name Emmanuel.

²³ "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."

³¹ And behold, you shall conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God shall give Him the throne of His father David. ³³ And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there shall be no end." ³⁴ Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?" ³⁵ And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy Baby which is to be born shall be called the Son of God.

¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

⁵ of whom are the fathers and from whom Christ came, according to the flesh, He who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.

¹⁶ And confessedly, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and was received up in glory.

¹⁰ And having summoned the crowd, He said to them, "Hear and understand:

¹ Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, ² saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat.

⁵ But all their works they do in order to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and they enlarge the borders of their garments. ⁶ They love the first couch in the suppers, and the best seats in the synagogues, ⁷ and greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.'

³⁴ And having summoned the crowd together with His disciples, He said to them, "Whoever is willing to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

³⁸ Then He said to them in His teaching, "Take heed of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and like greetings in the marketplaces, ³⁹ and the first seats in the synagogues, and the first couches at the suppers;

²⁰ Those who are sinning rebuke before all, that the rest also may have fear.

²³ Pride brings a man low, but the Lord upholds the humble-minded with honor.

¹⁵ Then He charged them, saying, "Look out, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."

⁴³ Woe to you Pharisees! Because you love the first seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.

¹ Now in the meantime, as an innumerable crowd had gathered together so that they were stepping on one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁷ So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the places of honor, saying to them:

¹⁰ Be warmly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor preferring one another;

³ doing nothing according to selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility, regarding one another as being better than yourselves. ⁴ Let each of you look out not only for his own concerns, but also for the concerns of others. ⁵ Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

¹⁵ whom you also should guard against, for he has greatly resisted our words.

⁹ I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves the preeminence over them, does not receive us.

² perverting the cause of the poor, violently seizing the judgment of the needy ones of My people, that the widow may be a prey to them, and the orphan a spoil.

⁶ and oppress not the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, and go not after strange gods to your hurt; ⁷ then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land which I gave to your fathers of old, and forever. ⁸ But seeing you have trusted in lying words, whereby you shall not be profited; ⁹ and you murder, and commit adultery, and steal, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and have gone after strange gods whom you know not, ¹⁰ so that it is evil with you; yet have you come, and stood before Me in the house which is called by My name, and you have said, We have refrained from doing all these abominations.

⁷ In you they have reviled father and mother; and in you they have behaved unjustly toward the stranger; they have oppressed the orphan and widow.

³¹ They approach you as a people that come together, and sit before you, and hear your words, but they will not do them; for there is falsehood in their mouth, and their heart goes after their pollutions.

⁷ in which to tread on the dust of the earth, and they have smitten upon the heads of the poor, and have perverted the way of the lowly; and a son and his father have gone into the same maid, that they might profane the name of their God.

⁴ Hear now this, you that oppress the poor in the morning, and drive the needy ones by tyranny from the earth, ⁵ saying, When will the month pass away, and we shall sell, and the sabbath, and we shall open the treasure, to make the measure small, and to enlarge the weight, and make the balance unfair? ⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for shoes; and we will trade in every kind of fruit.

² And they desired fields, and plundered orphans, and oppressed families, and spoiled a man and his house, even a man and his inheritance.

⁸ Even before time My people withstood him as an enemy against his peace; they have stripped off his skin to remove hope in the conflict of war.

² Who hate good, and seek evil; who tear their skins off them, and their flesh off their bones:

²² Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. ²³ And you, Capernaum, the one having been exalted to heaven, you will be brought down to Hades; because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. ²⁴ But I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and dish, so that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Thus also you outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁴⁰ who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense pray at length. These will receive more abundant judgment."

¹² I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ Nevertheless it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not get ready or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many blows. ⁴⁸ But he who did not know, yet did things worthy of blows, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be demanded; and to whom much has been entrusted, of him they will ask much more.

⁵ For neither were we using flattering speech, as you know, nor covering up greed, God is our witness.

² For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, not loving what is good, ⁴ traitors, headstrong, having been puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, ⁵ having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from these people turn away! ⁶ For of these are those who creep into houses and captivate gullible women having been loaded down with sins, who are led by various lusts,

¹⁶ They profess to know God, but in their works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

¹ My brothers, let not many become teachers, knowing that we shall receive greater judgment.
