¹⁴ And they came and said to Him, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and it does not make a difference to you about anyone; for You do not look on the face of men, but you teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

² You shall not associate with the multitude for evil. You shall not join yourself with a multitude to turn aside with the majority so as to shut out judgment. ³ And you shall not spare a poor man in judgment. ⁴ And if you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall turn them back and restore them to him. ⁵ And if you see your enemy's donkey fallen under its burden, you shall not pass by it, but you shall help to raise it with him. ⁶ You shall not pervert the judgment of the poor in his cause.

¹⁹ they shall not pervert judgment, nor favor persons, nor receive a gift; for gifts blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

⁹ Who says to his father and mother, I have not seen you; and he knew not his brethren, and he refused to know his sons; he kept Your oracles, and observed Your covenant. ¹⁰ They shall declare Your ordinances to Jacob, and Your law to Israel; they shall place incense in the time of Your wrath continually upon Your altar.

¹³ And Micaiah said, As the Lord lives, whatever God shall say to me, that will I speak.

⁷ And now let the fear of the Lord be upon you, and be wary, and do your duty; for there is no unrighteousness with the Lord our God, neither is it for Him to respect persons, or to take bribes.

¹² Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up to us from you, have come to Jerusalem, the rebellious and wicked city which they are building, and its walls are set in order, and they have established the foundations of it. ¹³ Now then let it be known to the king, that if that city be built up, and its walls completed, you shall have no tribute, neither will they pay any tribute, and this injures kings.

³⁷ and its produce is abundant for the kings whom You appointed over us because of our sins; and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, as it pleases them, and we are in great affliction.

² Everyone has spoken vanity to his neighbor: their lips are deceitful, they have spoken with a double heart. ³ Let the Lord destroy all the deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaks great words; ⁴ who have said, We will magnify our tongue; our lips are our own: who is Lord of us?

²¹ They were scattered at the anger of His countenance, and his heart drew near to them. His words were smoother than oil, yet they are darts.

² Deliver my soul, O Lord, from unjust lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

²³ Silver dishonestly given is to be considered as a potsherd; smooth lips cover a grievous heart. ²⁴ A weeping enemy promises all things with his lips, but in his heart he contrives deceit. ²⁵ Though your enemy intreat you with a loud voice, consent not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ He that hides enmity frames deceit, but being easily discerned, exposes his own sins in the public assemblies.

⁷ but the Lord God became my helper; therefore I was not ashamed, but I set my face as a solid rock; and I know that I shall never be ashamed, ⁸ for He that has justified me draws near. Who is he that pleads with me? Let him stand up against me at the same time; yea, who is he that pleads with me? Let him draw near to me. ⁹ Behold, the Lord, the Lord will help me; who will hurt me? Behold, all you shall grow as old as a garment, and a moth shall devour you.

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord: If you will return, then will I restore you, and you shall stand before My face. And if you will bring forth the precious from the worthless, you shall be as My mouth; and they shall return to you; but you shall not return to them. ²⁰ And I will make you to this people as a strong bronze wall; and they shall fight against you, but they shall by no means prevail against you. ²¹ For I am with you, to save you, and to deliver you out of the hand of wicked men; and I will ransom you out of the hand of pestilent men.

² to Jeremiah the prophet, and said to him, Let now our supplication come before your face, and pray to the Lord your God for this remnant; for we are left but a few out of many, as your eyes see. ³ And let the Lord your God declare to us the way in which we should walk, and the thing which we should do.

²⁰ that you have wrought wickedness in your hearts, when you sent for me, saying, Pray for us to the Lord; and according to all that the Lord shall speak to you we will do.

⁶ And you, son of man, fear them not, nor be dismayed at their face (for they will madden and will rise up against you round about, and you dwell in the midst of scorpions), be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their countenance, for they are a provoking house. ⁷ And you shall speak My words to them, whether they will hear or fear; for they are a provoking house.

⁸ Surely I will strengthen myself with the Spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of power, to declare to Jacob his transgressions, and to Israel his sins.

²⁵ He said, "Yes." And when he entered into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?" ²⁶ Peter said to Him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free. ²⁷ Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, and cast in a hook, and take the first fish coming up. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a coin; taking that, give it to them for Me and you."

¹⁷ Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"

⁴⁵ And when he arrived, immediately he approached Him and said to Him, "Rabbi, Rabbi!" and he affectionately kissed Him.

²² Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"

² And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this Man perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King."

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself is seeking his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

⁶ For on account of this you also pay taxes, for they are ministers of God, always giving attention to this very thing.

² For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad if not the one which is made sorrowful by me?

¹⁷ For we are not as the rest, corrupting the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

¹ Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not despair,

¹¹ Knowing, therefore, the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but we have been made known to God. And I also hope to have been made known in your consciences.

¹⁶ Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.

¹⁰ For do I just now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

⁶ But from those who seemed to be something--whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows partiality to no man--so to me, those with influence contributed nothing,

¹¹ But when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before certain men came from James, he would eat together with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to draw back and began to separate himself, fearing those of the circumcision party. ¹³ And the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they did not act rightly with respect to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in Gentile fashion and not in Jewish fashion, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as Jews?

⁴ but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who is testing our hearts.
