¹ Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished directing His twelve disciples, that He moved on from there to teach and to preach in their cities. ² And when John had heard in prison about the works of the Messiah, having sent two of his disciples, ³ he said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for a different one?" ⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John the things which you hear and see: ⁵ The blind receive sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. ⁶ And blessed is the one who is not offended because of Me." ⁷ Now as these men were going, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft garments are in kings' houses. ⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.' ¹¹ "Assuredly I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men seize it. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the one who is about to come. ¹⁵ He who has ears to hear, let him hear! ¹⁶ But to what shall I compare this generation? It is similar to children who sit in the marketplaces and call to their playmates, ¹⁷ and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; We mourned to you, and you did not lament.' ¹⁸ "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' ¹⁹ "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' And so wisdom is justified by her children." ²⁰ Then He began to reproach the cities in which His very many miracles had been done, because they did not repent: ²¹ "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. ²² Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. ²³ And you, Capernaum, the one having been exalted to heaven, you will be brought down to Hades; because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. ²⁴ But I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you." ²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. ²⁶ Yes, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. ²⁷ All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone fully know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. ²⁸ Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

¹ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me; He has sent Me to preach the gospel to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind; ² to declare the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of recompense; to comfort all that mourn; ³ that there should be given to them that mourn in Zion glory instead of ashes, the oil of joy to the mourners, the garment of glory for the spirit of heaviness; and they shall be called generations of righteousness, the planting of the Lord for glory.

²³ And Jesus went about all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness among the people.

²⁸ And so it was, when Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,

³⁵ And Jesus was going about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every illness and every disease among the people.

²⁰ teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

³⁸ But He said to them, "Let us go to the neighboring towns, that I may preach there also, because for this reason I have come forth." ³⁹ And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.

¹⁵ And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. ¹⁶ And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He entered into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and He stood up to read. ¹⁷ And the book of Isaiah the prophet was given to Him. And having unrolled the scroll, He found the place where it was written: ¹⁸ "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; ¹⁹ To preach the acceptable year of the LORD." ²⁰ And having rolled up the scroll, when He had given it to the attendant, He sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were looking intently at Him. ²¹ And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your ears."

¹ Now it came to pass afterward, that He was traveling through every city and village, preaching and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God, and the twelve were with Him,

¹⁰ If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and I abide in His love.

¹⁴ You are My friends if you do what I command you.

² until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all those who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.

⁴² And He commanded us to proclaim to the people, and to testify solemnly that He is the One having been appointed by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

² For you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

⁶ But we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother living in idleness, and not according the tradition which they received from us.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone is not willing to work, neither let him eat!

¹⁴ that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁷ So all the generations from Abraham till David were fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon were fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ were fourteen generations.

¹² Now when Jesus heard that John had been imprisoned, He departed into Galilee.

¹⁴ Then the disciples of John approached Him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?"

³ For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

¹⁷ For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; because he had married her.

¹⁹ But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him concerning Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,

¹⁸ Then the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. ¹⁹ And summoning two if his disciples, John sent them to Jesus, saying, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?" ²⁰ And when they came to Him, the men said, "John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, 'Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?' " ²¹ And in that very hour He healed many from diseases, and torments, and evil spirits; and to many blind people He granted sight. ²² Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: that the blind regain sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor are evangelized. ²³ And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me." ²⁴ Now when John's messengers had departed, He began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What have you gone out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ²⁵ But what have you gone out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in royal palaces. ²⁶ But what have you gone out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.' ²⁸ "For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God for themselves, because they had not been baptized by him. ³¹ "Therefore to what shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? ³² They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we mourned for you, and you did not weep.' ³³ "For John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' ³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' ³⁵ And so wisdom is justified by all her children."

²⁴ For John was not yet cast into prison. ²⁵ Then there came to be a dispute between John's disciples and a Jew about purification. ²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, this Man is baptizing, and all men are coming to Him!" ²⁷ John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. ²⁸ You yourselves bear witness that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.'

¹ Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and was baptizing more disciples than John

¹ And it came about, while Apollos was in Corinth, that Paul, having gone through the interior regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples ² he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit, having believed?" So they said to him, "We have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." ³ And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism."

^{15 (3:16)} And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her Seed, He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.

³ And I will bless those that bless you, and curse those that curse you, and in you shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.

¹⁰ A ruler shall not fail from Judah, nor a prince from his loins, until there come the things stored up for him; and He is the expectation of nations.

¹⁷ I will point to Him, but not now; I bless Him, but He draws not near: a Star shall arise out of Jacob, a Man shall spring forth out of Israel; and shall crush the princes of Moab, and shall spoil all the sons of Seth.

¹⁵ The Lord your God shall raise up to you a Prophet from among your brethren, like me; Him shall you hear, ¹⁶ according to all the things which you desired from the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, We will not again hear the voice of the Lord your God, and we will not anymore see this great fire, lest we die. ¹⁷ And the Lord said to me, They have spoken rightly, all that they have said to you. ¹⁸ I will raise up to them a Prophet from among their brethren, like you; and I will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them as I shall command Him.

⁶ But I have been made King by Him on Zion His holy mountain, ⁷ declaring the ordinance of the Lord: the Lord has said to Me, You are My Son, today I have begotten You. ⁸ Ask of Me, and I shall give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. ⁹ You shall rule them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces as a potter's vessel. ¹⁰ Now therefore understand, you kings: be instructed, all you that judge the earth. ¹¹ Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice in Him with trembling. ¹² Accept correction, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you should perish from the righteous way. Whenever His wrath shall be suddenly kindled, blessed are all they that trust in Him.

¹ A Psalm of David. The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool. ² The Lord shall send out the rod of Your strength out of Zion; rule in the midst of Your enemies! ³ With You is dominion in the day of Your power, in the splendors of Your saints; I have begotten You from the womb before the morning. ⁴ The Lord has sworn, and will not relent, You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek. ⁵ The Lord at Your right hand has dashed in pieces kings in the day of His wrath.

²⁶ Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord; we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive in the womb, and shall bring forth a son, and you shall call His name Emmanuel.

⁶ For a Child is born to us, and a Son is given to us, whose government is upon His shoulder; and His name is called the Messenger of great counsel; for I will bring peace upon the princes, and health to Him. ⁷ His government shall be great, and of His peace there is no end; it shall be upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to establish it, and to support it with judgment and with righteousness, from this time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.

⁵ Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous branch, and a king shall reign and understand, and shall execute judgment and righteousness on the earth. ⁶ In his days both Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell securely. And this is his name, which the Lord shall call Him, Josedek among the prophets.

²³ And I will raise up one shepherd over them, and he shall tend them, even My servant David, and he shall be their shepherd; ²⁴ and I the Lord will be to them a God, and David a prince in the midst of them; I the Lord have spoken it.

²⁴ Seventy weeks have been determined upon your people, and upon the holy city, for sin to be ended, to seal up transgressions, to blot out iniquities, to make atonement for iniquities, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. ²⁵ And you shall know and understand, that from the going forth of the command for the answer and for the building of Jerusalem, until Christ the Prince, there shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks; and then the time shall return, and the street shall be built, and the wall, and the times shall be exhausted. ²⁶ And after the sixty-two weeks, the Anointed One shall be killed, and there is no judgment in Him. And He shall destroy the city and the sanctuary with the prince that is to come: they shall be cut off with a flood, and to the end of the war which is rapidly completed He shall appoint the city to desolations.

⁵ And afterward shall the children of Israel return, and shall seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall be amazed at the Lord and at His goodness in the latter days.

²⁸ And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. ²⁹ And on My servants and on My handmaids in those days will I pour out of My Spirit. ³⁰ And I will show wonders in heaven, and upon the earth, blood, and fire, and vapors of smoke. ³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. ³² And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved: for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall the saved one be as the Lord has said, and they that have glad tidings preached to them, whom the Lord has called.

¹¹ In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and will rebuild the ruins of it, and will set up the parts thereof that have been broken down, and will build it up as in the ancient days: ¹² that the remnant of men, and all the Gentiles upon whom My name is called, may earnestly seek Me, says the Lord who does all these things.

²¹ And they that escape shall come up from Mount Zion, to take vengeance on the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the Lord's.

² And you, Bethlehem, house of Ephratha, are few in number to be reckoned among the thousands of Judah; yet out of you shall one come forth to Me, to be a ruler of Israel; and His goings forth were from the beginning, even from eternity.

¹⁴ Rejoice, O daughter of Zion; cry aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem; rejoice and delight yourself with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ The Lord has taken away your iniquities, He has ransomed you from the hand of your enemies: the Lord, the King of Israel, is in the midst of you: you shall not see evil any more. ¹⁶ At that time the Lord shall say to Jerusalem, Be of good courage, Zion; let not your hands be slack. ¹⁷ The Lord your God is in you; the Mighty One shall save you: He shall bring joy upon you, and shall refresh you with His love; and He shall rejoice over you with delight as in a day of feasting.

^{7 (2:8)} and I will shake all nations, and the choice portions of all the nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord Almighty.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; proclaim it aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem; behold, your King is coming to you, righteous, and your Savior; He is meek and riding on a donkey, a young foal of a donkey.

¹ Behold, I send forth My messenger, and he shall survey the way before Me: and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come into His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, whom you take pleasure in: behold, He is coming, says the Lord Almighty.

² But to you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise, and healing shall be in His wings: and you shall go forth, and bound as young calves let loose from bonds.

² saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East, and have come to worship Him." ³ But when Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And having gathered together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired from them where the Christ would be born. ⁵ So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ⁶ 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come forth a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.' "

⁵ "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your King is coming to you, humble, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.' "

⁹ Then the crowds who went before, and those following were crying out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' Hosanna in the highest!"

⁹ And those going before, and those that were following were crying out, saying: "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!'

³⁸ saying: " 'Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!' Peace in heaven and glory in the highest! "

²¹ Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

¹⁴ Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world."

³¹ But many of the crowd believed in Him, and were saying, "When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man did?"

⁴¹ Others said, "This is the Christ." Others said, "But the Christ is not coming out of Galilee, is He? ⁴² Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?"

²⁷ She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."

¹³ took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and they were crying out, "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' The King of Israel!"

¹⁴ He will glorify Me, for He will take from what is Mine and He will announce it to you.

³⁷ "For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not delay.

⁷ And it came to pass, when the king of Israel read the letter, that he tore his clothes, and said, Am I God, able to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? Consider, however, and see that this man seeks an occasion against me.

¹⁴ So Naaman went down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of Elisha; and his flesh returned to him as the flesh of a little child, and he was cleansed.

²⁶ The poor shall eat and be satisfied; and they shall praise the Lord that seek Him; their heart shall live forever.

¹² For He has delivered the poor from the oppressor; and the needy who had no helper. ¹³ He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall deliver the souls of the needy.

⁸ The Lord gives wisdom to the blind; the Lord sets up the broken down; the Lord loves the righteous:; the Lord preserves the strangers;

¹⁸ And in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and they that are in darkness, and they that are in mist; the eyes of the blind shall see,

⁴ Comfort one another, you fainthearted; be strong, fear not; behold, our God renders judgment, and He will render it; He will come and save us. ⁵ Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall hear. ⁶ Then shall the lame man leap as a deer, and the tongue of the stammerers shall speak plainly; for water has burst forth in the desert, and a channel of water in a thirsty land.

⁶ I, the Lord God, have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will strengthen you; and I have given you for the covenant of a race, for a light of the Gentiles; ⁷ to open the eyes of the blind, to bring the bound and them that sit in darkness out of bonds and the prison house.

⁸ and I have brought forth the blind people; for their eyes are alike blind, and those that have ears are deaf.

² For all these things are Mine, says the Lord; and to whom will I have respect, but to the humble and meek, and the man that trembles at My words?

⁷ And I will tend the flock of slaughter in the land of Canaan: and I will take for Myself two rods; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Line; and I will tend the flock.

³ "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

¹ When He had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed Him. ² And behold, a leper came and worshipped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." ³ And reaching out His hand, Jesus touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

²⁴ He said to them, "Make room, for the girl has not died, but she is sleeping." And they were ridiculing Him. ²⁵ But when the crowd had been put out, He went in and grasped her hand, and the little girl arose.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, "See that you let no one know."

⁸ "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

³⁰ And great crowds came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they put them down at Jesus' feet, and He healed them. ³¹ So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

¹⁴ Then the lame and the blind came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.

³⁷ And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

²⁵ When Jesus saw that a crowd was running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!"

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;

¹⁴ Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." ¹⁵ So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. ¹⁶ Then fear took hold of all, and they were glorifying God, saying, "A great prophet has risen up among us"; and, "God has visited His people."

²¹ And in that very hour He healed many from diseases, and torments, and evil spirits; and to many blind people He granted sight. ²² Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: that the blind regain sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor are evangelized.

²³ Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, at the feast, many believed on His name, beholding the signs which He was doing.

² This man came to Him by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."

³⁶ But I have a testimony greater than John's; for the works which the Father gave to Me, that I should complete them, these very works which I do, testify of Me, that the Father has sent Me.

²⁵ Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father's name, these things testify about Me.

³⁸ but if I am doing them, even if you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him."

⁴³ And having said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" ⁴⁴ And the one having died came out, bound hands and feet with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped in a handkerchief. Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go."

¹¹ Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, but if not, believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. ¹² "Most assuredly I say to you, he that believes in Me, the works which I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

²² "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves also know--

² And a man lame from his mother's womb was being carried, whom they would lay each day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; ³ who, when he saw Peter and John about to enter into the temple, began asking for alms. ⁴ And looking intently on him, Peter together with John, said "Look at us." ⁵ And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. ⁶ But Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but that which I do have, I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, rise and walk." ⁷ And taking hold of him by his right hand, he raised him; and immediately his feet and ankles were strengthened. ⁸ So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping, and praising God.

⁹ If we today are being judged for a good work to a weak man, by what means he has been made well, ¹⁰ let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this name this man stands here before you whole.

⁸ And a certain man in Lystra, powerless in his feet, was sitting, lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked. ⁹ This man heard Paul speaking; who, gazing intently on him and seeing that he had that faith to be healed, ¹⁰ said with a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet!" And he was jumping and walking about.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers. Did God not choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those that love Him?

¹ Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of evil men. ² But his pleasure is in the law of the Lord; and in His law will he meditate day and night.

¹ A Psalm of instruction by David. Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, and who sins are covered. ² Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin, and in whose mouth there is no guile.

¹ Alleluia. Blessed are the blameless in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.

¹⁴ And if you shall trust in Him, He shall be to you for a sanctuary; and you shall not come against Him as against a stumbling stone, neither as against the falling of a rock; but the houses of Jacob are in a snare, and those who dwell in Jerusalem are in a pit. ¹⁵ Therefore many among them shall be weak and fall, and be crushed; and they shall draw near, and men shall be taken securely.

³ "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ "Blessed are you whenever they revile you, and they persecute you, and they say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. ¹² Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

⁵⁵ Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Jude? ⁵⁶ And His sisters, are they not all with us? From where then did this Man get all these things?" ⁵⁷ So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, and in his own house."

¹² Then His disciples approached and said to Him, " You know that when the Pharisees heard this message they were offended?" ¹³ But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. ¹⁴ Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guides the blind, both will fall into a ditch."

⁷ Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man through whom the offense comes!

¹⁰ And then many will fall away, and they will betray one another, and they will hate one another.

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of Me on this night, for it is written: 'I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'

³⁴ Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against

²³ He said to them, "You will surely say this proverb to Me, 'Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your hometown.' " ²⁴ Then He said, "Assuredly I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown. ²⁵ But I tell you truly, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine all over the land; ²⁶ but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a widow woman. ²⁷ And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." ²⁸ So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, ²⁹ and rising up they threw Him out of the city; and brought Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, in order to throw Him down.

²⁷ And it happened, while He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb which bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!" ²⁸ But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

⁶⁰ Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying; who can hear it?" ⁶¹ And Jesus, knowing in Himself that His disciples were murmuring about this, He said to them, "Does this offend you?

⁶⁶ From this time many of His disciples turned back and no longer would walk with Him.

³² Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled the stone of stumbling. ³³ Just as it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and rock of offense, and everyone believing on Him will not be put to shame."

²² For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; ²³ but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness,

¹⁴ But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

¹¹ And I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been done away with.

⁸ and "a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

⁴ You were insolent like water, burst not forth with violence, for you went up to the bed of your father; then you defiled the couch, whereupon you went up.

¹ In those days John the Baptist arrived preaching in the wilderness of Judea, ² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" ³ For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "A voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight.' "

⁵ Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan were going out to him

²⁵ The baptism of John--where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

³ "A voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight.' " ⁴ John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ⁵ And all the Judean country and the inhabitants of Jerusalem went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

³ And he went into all the surrounding region of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, ⁴ as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: "A voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD, make His paths straight. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be humbled; the crooked roads shall become straight, and the rough roads shall become smooth; ⁶ and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.' " ⁷ Then he said to the crowds which came out to be baptized by him, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

²⁴ Now when John's messengers had departed, He began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What have you gone out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ²⁵ But what have you gone out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in royal palaces. ²⁶ But what have you gone out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.' ²⁸ "For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God for themselves, because they had not been baptized by him.

¹⁸ Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, more shall be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him."

³⁸ Then Jesus turned and observed them following, and said to them, "What are you seeking?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?"

³⁵ He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

¹⁷ Therefore, when I decided this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I decide, do I decide according to the flesh, that there may be with me "Yes, Yes," and "No, No?" ¹⁸ But as God is faithful, our word unto you was not "Yes and no."

¹⁴ that we may no longer be infants, being tossed as by waves, and being carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in regard to deceitful scheming,

⁶ But let him ask in faith, doubting nothing, for he that doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

⁸ And they said to him, He was a hairy man, and girded with a leather belt about his loins. And he said, This is Elijah the Tishbite.

² then the Lord spoke to Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and take the sackcloth off your loins, and loose your sandals from off your feet, and do thus, going naked and barefoot.

⁴ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed, everyone of his vision, when he prophesies; and they shall clothe themselves with a garment of hair, because they have lied.

⁴ And John himself had his clothing made from camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are naked, and beaten, and homeless.

²⁷ in labor and hardship, in sleepless nights often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness--

³ And I will give power to My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, having been clothed in sackcloth."

¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the one who is about to come.

⁵ Though desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they counted him as a prophet.

¹² But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they desired. Thus also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them." ¹³ Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

²⁴ But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: ²⁵ The baptism of John--where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ²⁶ "But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet."

¹¹ And they asked Him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" ¹² And answering He said to them, "Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt? ¹³ But I say to you that indeed Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written concerning him."

¹⁵ For he shall be great before the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, while still in his mother's womb. ¹⁶ And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he himself will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

⁷⁶ "And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,

³ The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight the paths of our God.

⁵ And, behold, I will send to you Elijah the Tishbite, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes;

³ For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "A voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight.' "

² As it is written in the Prophets: "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You."

²⁶ But what have you gone out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.'

²³ He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' just as Isaiah the prophet said."

³⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel: I said, Your house and the house of your father shall pass before Me forever: but now the Lord says, Far be it from Me; for I will only honor them that honor Me, and he that despises Me shall be despised.

¹ For a mortal born of a woman is short-lived, and full of wrath.

⁴ For who shall be pure from uncleanness? Not even one;

¹⁴ For who, being a mortal, is such that he shall be blameless? Or who that is born of a woman, that he should be just?

⁴ For how shall a mortal be just before the Lord? Or who that is born of a woman shall purify himself?

⁵ For behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me.

²⁶ And the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold in the day when the Lord shall heal the breach of His people, and shall heal the pain of your wound.

⁸ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the weak one among them in that day shall be as David, and the house of David as the house of God, as the Angel of the Lord before them.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit,

¹⁹ Whoever therefore shall break one of the least of these commandments, and shall teach men thus, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁵ For he shall be great before the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, while still in his mother's womb.

²⁸ "For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."

⁴⁸ and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all shall be great."

¹⁵ John testified concerning Him and has cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me, has come to be before me, because He was before me.' "

²⁷ He is the One who comes after me, who has come to be before me, of whom I am not worthy that I should loose the strap of His sandal."

³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease.

³⁹ (But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him were about to receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

⁴¹ And many came to Him and said, "John indeed performed no sign, but everything which John said about this Man was true."

^{25 (14:24)} Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began, ^{26 (14:25)} but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the eternal God, for obedience to the faith--

⁴ If then you have ordinary lawsuits, do you appoint those who are disdained within the church to judge?

⁹ For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

³ among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the senses, and were by nature children of wrath, as also the rest.

⁸ To me, the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

²⁶ the mystery which has been hidden from the ages and from generations, but now was revealed to His saints. ²⁷ To whom God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the nations, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory;

¹⁰ but has now been revealed through the appearance of our Savior Jesus Christ, having nullified death on the one hand, and having brought to life immortality through the gospel on the other,

⁴⁰ God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

¹⁰ Concerning this salvation the prophets have sought out and inquired carefully, having prophesied of the grace that would come to you,

²³ Now as He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?" ²⁴ But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: ²⁵ The baptism of John--where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ²⁶ "But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet." ²⁷ So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁸ "But what do you think? A man had two children. And having come to the first, he said, 'Child, go, work today in my vineyard.' ²⁹ "But he answered and said, 'I will not,' but later he regretted it and went. ³⁰ And having come to the other, he said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I am going, sir,' but he did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; but you, having seen, did not repent afterwards, that you might believe him.

²⁴ Strive to enter through the narrow gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone enters forcibly into it.

²⁷ Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for upon Him God the Father has set His seal."

¹¹ Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil. ¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenlies. ¹³ Because of this, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having accomplished all things, to stand.

¹² So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

⁶ who shall turn again the heart of the father to the son, and the heart of a man to his neighbor, lest I come and smite the earth grievously.

¹⁷ "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. ¹⁸ For assuredly I say to you, until heaven and earth may pass away, one iota or one tittle shall by no means pass away from the law until all things are fulfilled.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

⁴⁴ Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."

⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would have believed Me; for he wrote about Me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"

²² For Moses said to the fathers, 'The LORD our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. ²³ 'And it shall be that every person who does not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.' ²⁴ Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and his successors, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.

²⁷ For those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor the voices of the Prophets which are being read according to each Sabbath, condemning him, they fulfilled the Scriptures.

²¹ But now the righteousness of God apart from the law has been revealed, being witnessed to by the Law and the Prophets,

⁵ Whether then indeed they shall hear or fear (for they are a provoking house,) yet they shall know that you are a prophet in the midst of them.

¹⁰ And He said to me, Son of man, receive into your heart all the words that I have spoken to you, and hear them with your ears. ¹¹ And go your way, go in to the captivity, to the children of your people, and you shall speak to them, and say to them, Thus says the Lord; whether they will hear, or whether they will refuse.

¹⁰ And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" ¹¹ Jesus answered and said to them, " Elijah truly does come first, and shall restore all things.

¹⁷ And he himself will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." ²² Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' just as Isaiah the prophet said."

¹² I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

² I gave you milk to drink, and not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, neither are you now yet able;

⁴ And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them, and the souls of those who had been beheaded on account of the testimony of Jesus, and on account of the word of God, and those who had not worshipped the Beast or his image, and they did not receive the mark on their forehead or on their hand. And they came to life and reigned with Christ for the thousand years.

⁹ He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

⁴³ Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

⁹ And He said, "He that has ears to hear, let him hear!"

²³ If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."

¹⁵ There is nothing from outside a man, that entering into him, can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man.

⁸ But other seed fell into good ground, and when it grew up, it produced fruit a hundredfold." Saying these things He was calling out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

³⁵ It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men cast it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of My God." '

¹³ ( { ξ}) MEM. What shall I testify to you, or what shall I compare to you, O daughter of Jerusalem? Who shall save and comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For the cup of your destruction is enlarged — who shall heal you?

³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

³⁶ Assuredly I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation.

³⁴ Assuredly I say to you, this generation shall by no means pass away till all these things are fulfilled.

³⁰ Then He said, "To what shall we compare the kingdom of God? Or by what sort of parable shall we illustrate it?

¹⁸ Then He said, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?

⁴⁰ And all the people went up after him, and they danced in choirs, and rejoiced with great joy, and the earth quaked with their voice.

⁹ To whom have we reported evils? And to whom have we reported a message? Even to those that are weaned from the milk, who are drawn from the breast. ¹⁰ Except affliction on affliction, hope upon hope; yet a little, and yet a little, ¹¹ by reason of the contemptuous words of the lips, by means of another language; for they shall speak to this people, saying to them, ¹² This is the rest to him that is hungry, and this is the calamity; but they would not hear. ¹³ Therefore the oracle of God shall be to them affliction on affliction, hope on hope, yet a little, and yet a little, that they may go and fall backward; and they shall be crushed and shall be in danger, and shall be taken.

²⁹ Must you always rejoice, and go into My holy places continually, as they that keep a feast? And must you go with a flute, as those that rejoice, into the mountain of the Lord, to the God of Israel?

¹⁷ Thus says the Lord, Call the mourning women, and let them come; and send to the wise women, and let them utter their voice; ¹⁸ and let them take up a lamentation for you, and let your eyes pour down tears, and your eyelids drop water. ¹⁹ For a voice of lamentation has been heard in Zion, How we have become wretched! We are greatly ashamed, for we have forsaken the land, and have abandoned our tabernacles! ²⁰ Hear the word of God, you women, and let your ears receive the words of His mouth, and teach your daughters lamentation, and every woman her neighbor a dirge.

⁴ For I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel. You shall yet take your timbrel, and go forth with the party of them that make merry.

¹⁵ And Jesus said to them, "Can the groomsmen mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

²³ And when Jesus came into the house of the leader, and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,

²⁵ Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

¹⁹ For being free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, in order that I might win the more; ²⁰ and to the Jews I became as a Jew, in order that I might win Jews; to those who are under law, as under law, in order that I might win those who are under law; ²¹ to those outside the law, as one outside the law (not being outside the law toward God, but subject to the law toward Christ), in order that I might win those outside the law; ²² to the weak I became as weak, in order that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. ²³ Now this I do for the sake of the gospel, in order that I may become a partaker of it with you.

¹¹ And Jehu went forth to the servants of his master, and they said to him, Is all well? Why has this madman come to you? And he said to them, You know the man, and his babble.

¹⁷ I have not sat in the assembly of them as they mocked, but I feared because of Your power. I sat alone, for I was filled with bitterness.

⁸ You shall not enter into the banquet house, to sit with them to eat and to drink. ⁹ For thus says the Lord God of Israel: Behold, I will make the voice of joy to cease out of this place before your eyes, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

²⁶ The Lord has made you priest in the place of Jehoida the priest, to be ruler in the house of the Lord over every prophet, and to every madman, and you shall put them in prison, and into the dungeon.

⁷ The days of vengeance have come, the days of your recompense have come; and Israel shall be afflicted as the prophet that is mad, as a man deranged. By reason of the multitude of your iniquities your madness has abounded.

²⁵ It is enough for a disciple that he become like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call his household members!

²⁰ The crowd answered and said, "You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?"

⁴⁸ Then the Jews answered and said to Him, "Do we not say well that You are a Samaritan, and You have a demon?"

²⁰ And many of them said, "He has a demon and is raving mad. Why do you listen to Him?"

²⁴ Now as he spoke these things, Festus said with a loud voice, "You are mad, Paul! Your higher learning is driving you to madness!"

²⁷ But I treat my body roughly, and I bring it into subjection, lest, having preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

⁵ How have Your works been magnified, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep. ⁶ A foolish man will not know, and a senseless man will not understand this.

²⁴ The countenance of a wise man is sensible, but the eyes of a fool go to the ends of the earth.

¹⁰ Now it came to pass, as He reclined to eat in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners, having come, were reclining to eat with Jesus and His disciples. ¹¹ And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

²⁹ Then Levi made a great banquet for Him in his own house. And there was a great number of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them to eat. ³⁰ And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying, "Why do You eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?"

²⁹ And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John.

³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' ³⁵ And so wisdom is justified by all her children." ³⁶ Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And entering into the Pharisee's house, He reclined to eat.

¹ Now it came to pass, when He came into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they were watching Him closely.

¹ Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were drawing near to Him to hear Him. ² And the Pharisees and scribes were grumbling, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."

⁷ But when they saw it, they all were complaining, saying, "He has gone to be a guest with a sinful man."

² Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.

² Then they made for Him a supper there; and Martha was serving, but Lazarus was one of those reclining to eat with Him. ³ Then Mary, having taken a pound of very costly pure nard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. ⁴ Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, who was about to betray Him, said, ⁵ Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" ⁶ This he said, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to pilfer the things which were placed in it. ⁷ But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. ⁸ For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always."

² Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. ²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many powerful, not many noble, are called. ²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty. ²⁸ And the base things of the world, and the things having been despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, in order that He might nullify the things which are, ²⁹ so that no flesh may boast before God.

⁸ To me, the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, ⁹ and to enlighten all as to what is the administration of the mystery, which had been hidden from the ages in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ; ¹⁰ that the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the rulers and authorities in the heavenlies,

¹¹ Then I looked, and I heard as it were the voice of many angels around the throne, and the living beings, and the elders. And the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and a thousand thousands, ¹² saying with a loud voice: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive the power and the wealth and wisdom and strength, and honor and glory and blessing!" ¹³ And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: "Blessing and honor and glory and power to Him that sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever. Amen!" ¹⁴ -and the four living beings said "Amen!" And the elders fell down and worshipped.

¹² saying: "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen."

¹¹ But My people hearkened not to My voice; and Israel gave no heed to Me. ¹² So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts; they will go on in their own ways. ¹³ If My people had hearkened to Me, if Israel had walked in My ways,

² Hear, O heaven, and hearken, O earth! For the Lord has spoken, saying, I have begotten and reared up children, but they have rebelled against Me. ³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel does not know Me, and the people have not regarded Me. ⁴ Alas, sinful nation, a people full of sins, an evil seed, lawless children; you have forsaken the Lord, and provoked the Holy One of Israel. ⁵ Why should you be smitten anymore, transgressing more and more? The whole head is pained, and the whole heart sad.

⁶ Hearken, I pray, and hear: will they not speak thus, There is no man that repents of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? The runner has failed from his course, as a tired horse in his neighing.

¹ Hear now a word: the Lord God has said; Arise, plead with the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. ² Hear, O you mountains, the controversy of the Lord, and you valleys; even the foundations of the earth: for the Lord has a controversy with His people, and will plead with Israel. ³ O My people, what have I done to you? Or wherein have I grieved you? Or wherein have I troubled you? Answer Me. ⁴ For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, and sent before you Moses, and Aaron, and Miriam. ⁵ O My people, remember now, what counsel Balak king of Moab took against you, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, from the reeds to Gilgal; that the righteousness of the Lord might be known.

⁴¹ The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

¹⁹ He answered him and said, "O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me."

¹⁴ Afterwards He appeared to the eleven as they were reclining at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw Him after He had been raised.

¹³ "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ Nevertheless it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. ¹⁵ And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades.

²⁰ For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we desire to know what these things might mean."

²⁵ in meekness instructing those that oppose, if God perhaps may give them repentance, to a full knowledge of the truth, ²⁶ and they regain their senses and escape out of the snare of the devil, having been captured alive by him to do his will.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

²¹ And I gave her time so that she might repent, and she does not wish to repent of her fornication.

²⁰ But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent from the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and of wood, which neither are able to see nor to hear nor to walk. ²¹ And they did not repent of their murders, nor of their drugs, nor of their fornication or their thefts.

⁹ And men were burned with severe burns, and men blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent to give Him glory.

¹¹ They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their ulcers, and they did not repent of their works.

⁶ Therefore I have counted myself vile, and have fainted: and I esteem myself dust and ashes.

²⁷ your adultery also, and your neighing, and the looseness of your fornication. On the hills and in the fields I have seen your abominations. Woe to you, O Jerusalem, for you have not been purified so as to follow Me; how long yet shall it be?

⁶ neither to many nations of other speech and other tongues, nor of harsh language, whose words you would not understand; although if I had sent you to such, they would have hearkened to you. ⁷ But the house of Israel will not be willing to hearken to you; for they will not hearken to Me; for all the house of Israel are stubborn and hard-hearted.

²² Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.

⁴¹ The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater than Jonah is here. ⁴² The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and she shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

²¹ And going out from there, Jesus withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation. ¹⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the kingdom of heaven before men; for you do not enter, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. ¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you travel around land and sea to make one proselyte, and whenever he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you. ¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, is obligated.' ¹⁷ "Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, is obligated.' ¹⁹ "Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Therefore he that swears by the altar, swears by it and by all the things on it. ²¹ He that swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwelt in it. ²² And he that swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the more important things of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These things you should have done, and not have neglected the others. ²⁴ Blind guides, you who strain out a gnat, but swallow a camel! ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and unrighteousness. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and dish, so that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Thus also you outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. ²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous,

²⁴ Indeed, the Son of Man goes just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."

⁸ and from Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan and those around Tyre and Sidon, a large multitude, when they heard everything He was doing, came to Him.

⁴⁵ And immediately He compelled His disciples to step into the boat and to go on ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, until He could dismiss the crowd.

²⁴ From there He arose and He went away into the region of Tyre and Sidon. And having entered into a house, He wanted no one to know it, but He was not able to escape notice.

³¹ Again, coming out from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He went to the Sea of Galilee, in the midst of the region of Decapolis.

²² Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.

²⁶ but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a widow woman.

¹⁷ And having come down with them, He stood on a level place, with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases,

¹⁰ And the apostles, when they had returned, recounted to Him all that they had done. And taking them along, He withdrew privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

⁴² But woe to you Pharisees! Because you pay a tithe of mint and rue and every vegetable, and you pass over justice and the love of God. These things you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. ⁴³ Woe to you Pharisees! Because you love the first seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. ⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are like unmarked graves, and the men walking over them do not know it." ⁴⁵ Then one of the lawyers answered and said to Him, "Teacher, by saying these things You insult us also." ⁴⁶ And He said, "Woe to you lawyers as well! Because you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Woe to you! Because you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Consequently, you bear witness to and approve of the deeds of your fathers; because they indeed killed them, but you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,' ⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required from this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Woe to you lawyers! Because you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter in, and those who were entering in you hindered."

⁴⁴ Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

⁵ Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless someone is born of water and of Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. ⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. ⁷ Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' ⁸ "The wind blows where it wills, and you hear its sound, but you do not know from where it comes and where it goes. So is everyone who has been born of the Spirit." ⁹ Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?" ¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?

²¹ Then they approached Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and they asked him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."

²⁰ Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; and with one purpose they came to him, and persuading Blastus, the one over the king's bedroom, they asked for peace, because their country was fed from the king's country.

⁴⁴ On the coming Sabbath, almost all the city was assembled to hear the word of God. ⁴⁵ And the Jews, seeing the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and spoke against the things being said by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. ⁴⁶ But Paul and Barnabas, speaking boldly said, "It was necessary for the word of God to be spoken to you first; but since you thrust it away, and judge yourselves not worthy of eternal life; behold, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us: 'I have set you to be a light of the nations, that you should be for salvation to the end of the earth.' " ⁴⁸ Now when the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

³ And the next day we put in to harbor at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly, and permitted him to go to his friends to find care.

²⁵ And being in disagreement with one another, they went away after Paul had said one word: "The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, ²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people and say: "Hearing you will hear, and by no means understand; and seeing you shall see, and by no means perceive; ²⁷ For the hearts of this people has become dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and they should hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their heart and turn back, so that I should heal them." ' ²⁸ "Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!"

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and in the error of Balaam they have rushed for profit, and have perished in the rebellion of Korah.

¹ The word concerning Tyre. Howl, you ships of Carthage; for she has perished, and men no longer arrive from the land of the Citians; she is led captive. ² To whom have the inhabitants of the island become like, the merchants of Phoenice, passing over the sea ³ in great waters, a generation of merchants? As when the harvest is gathered in, so are these traders with the nations. ⁴ Be ashamed, O Sidon; the sea has said, yea, the strength of the sea has said, I have not travailed, nor brought forth, nor have I brought up young men, nor reared virgins. ⁵ Moreover when it shall be heard in Egypt, sorrow shall seize them for Tyre. ⁶ Depart to Carthage. Howl, you that dwell in this island. ⁷ Was not this your pride from the beginning, before she was given up? ⁸ Who has devised this counsel against Tyre. Is she inferior? Or has she no strength? Her merchants were the glorious princes of the earth. ⁹ The Lord of hosts has purposed to bring down all the pride of the glorious ones, and to disgrace every glorious thing on the earth. ¹⁰ Till your land; for ships no more come out of Carthage. ¹¹ And your hand prevails no more by sea, which troubled kings; the Lord of hosts has given a command concerning Canaan, to destroy the strength thereof. ¹² And men shall say, You shall no longer at all continue to insult and injure the daughter of Sidon; and if you depart to the Citians, neither there shall you have rest. ¹³ And if you depart to the land of the Chaldeans, this also is laid waste by the Assyrians, for her wall is fallen. ¹⁴ Howl, you ships of Carthage; for your stronghold is destroyed. ¹⁵ And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be left seventy years, as the time of a king, as the time of a man; and it shall come to pass after seventy years, that Tyre shall be as the song of a harlot. ¹⁶ Take a harp, go about, O city, you harlot that have been forgotten; play well on the harp, sing many songs, that you may be remembered. ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass after the seventy years, that God will visit Tyre, and she shall be again restored to her primitive state, and she shall be a mart for all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth. ¹⁸ And her trade and her gain shall be holiness to the Lord; it shall not be gathered for them, but for those that dwell before the Lord, even all her trade, to eat and drink and be filled, and for a covenant and a memorial before the Lord.

²² and the kings of Tyre, and the kings of Sidon, and the kings in the country beyond the sea,

³ and you shall send them to the king of Edom, to the king of Moab, to the king of the children of Ammon, to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hands of their messengers that come to meet them at Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.

¹ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ² Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem, Aha, she is crushed — the nations are destroyed; she has turned to me; she that was full is made desolate. ³ Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea comes up with its waves. ⁴ And they shall cast down the walls of Tyre, and shall cast down your towers: and I will scrape her dust from off her, and make her a bare rock. ⁵ She shall be in the midst of the sea a place for repairing nets, for I have spoken it, says the Lord; and it shall be a spoil for the nations. ⁶ And her daughters which are in the field shall be slain with the sword, and they shall know that I am the Lord. ⁷ For thus says the Lord: Behold, I will bring up against you, O Tyre, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the north: he is a king of kings, with horses, and chariots, and horsemen, and a concourse of very many nations. ⁸ He shall slay your daughters that are in the field with the sword, and shall set a watch against you, and build forts around you, and carry a rampart round against you, and set up warlike works, and array his spears against you. ⁹ He shall cast down with his swords your walls and your towers. ¹⁰ By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover you, and by reason of the sound of his horsemen and the wheels of his chariots your walls shall be shaken, when he enters into your gates, as one entering into a city from the plain. ¹¹ With the hoofs of his horses they shall trample all your streets. He shall slay your people with the sword, and shall bring down to the ground the support of your strength. ¹² And he shall prey upon your power, and plunder your substance, and shall cast down your walls, and break down your pleasant houses; and he shall cast your stones and your timber and your dust into the midst of your sea. ¹³ And he shall destroy the multitude of your musicians, and the sound of your psalteries shall be heard no more. ¹⁴ And I will make you a bare rock. You shall be a place to spread nets upon; you shall be built no more; for I the Lord have spoken it, says the Lord. ¹⁵ For thus says the Lord God to Tyre: Shall not the isles shake at the sound of your fall, while the wounded are groaning, while they have drawn a sword in the midst of you? ¹⁶ And all the princes of the nations of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and shall take off their crowns from their heads, and shall take off their embroidered garments; they shall be utterly amazed; they shall sit upon the ground, and fear their own destruction, and shall groan over you. ¹⁷ And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and shall say to you, How are you destroyed from out of the sea, O renowned city, that brought her terror upon all her inhabitants! ¹⁸ And the isles shall be alarmed at the day of your fall. ¹⁹ For thus says the Lord God: When I shall make the city desolate, as the cities that shall not be inhabited, when I have brought the deep up upon you, ²⁰ and great waters shall cover you, and I shall bring you down to them that go down to the pit, to the people of old time, and shall cause you to dwell in the depths of the earth, as in everlasting desolation, with them that go down to the pit, that you may not be inhabited, nor stand upon the land of life; ²¹ I will make you a terror, and you shall be no more forever, says the Lord God.

¹⁸ Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyre; every head was bald, and every shoulder peeled; yet there was no reward to him or to his army serving against Tyre, nor for the service which they served against it.

⁹ Thus says the Lord; For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not turn away from it, because they shut up the prisoners of Solomon into Edom, and remembered not the covenant of brethren. ¹⁰ And I will send forth a fire on the walls of Tyre, and it shall devour the foundations of it.

² And in Hamath, even in her coasts, are Tyre and Sidon, because they were very wise. ³ And Tyre built strongholds for herself, and heaped up silver as dust, and gathered gold as the mire of the ways.

¹⁵ Assuredly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!

²⁴ But I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."

³⁶ But I say to you, that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

¹⁴ Nevertheless it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not get ready or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many blows. ⁴⁸ But he who did not know, yet did things worthy of blows, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be demanded; and to whom much has been entrusted, of him they will ask much more.

³ how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which in the beginning was spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

⁴ For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and became partakers of the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and have tasted the good word of God and the powerful deeds of the age to come, ⁶ and having fallen away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and hold Him up to contempt. ⁷ For the earth which drinks the rain often coming upon it, and bears suitable vegetation for those on account of whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God; ⁸ but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, of which the end is for burning.

²⁶ For if we sin willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery zeal being about to devour the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone disregarding the law of Moses dies without compassions on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ By how much worse punishment, do you think, will he be deemed worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, and has regarded as common the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine; I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The LORD will judge His people." ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!

⁹ then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and how to keep the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,

⁷ but the present heavens and earth, having been stored up by His word, are being reserved for fire until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

¹⁷ By this love has been perfected with us: that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because just as He is, we also are in this world.

¹³ But the men of Sodom were evil, and exceedingly sinful before God.

²⁴ And the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. ²⁵ And He overthrew these cities, and all the country round about, and all that dwelt in the cities, and the plants springing out of the ground.

¹³ But you have said in your heart, I will go up to heaven, I will set my throne above the stars of heaven; I will sit on a lofty mount, on the lofty mountains toward the north; ¹⁴ I will go up above the clouds; I will be like the Most High. ¹⁵ But now you shall go down to hell, even to the foundations of the earth!

¹ ( { ΰ}) ALEPH. How has the Lord darkened in His wrath the daughter of Zion! He has cast down the glory of Israel from heaven to earth, and has not remembered His footstool.

⁴⁸ As I live, says the Lord, this Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done. ⁴⁹ Moreover this was the sin of your sister Sodom — pride. She and her daughters lived in pleasure, in fullness of bread and in abundance; this belonged to her and her daughters, and they helped not the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they boasted, and worked iniquities before Me: so I cut them off as I saw fit.

¹² Son of man, take up a lamentation for the prince of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord God: You were a seal of resemblance, and a crown of beauty. ¹³ You were in the delight of the paradise of God; you were adorned with every precious stone — the sardius, topaz, emerald, carbuncle, sapphire, jasper, silver, gold, ligure, agate, amethyst, chrysolite, beryl and onyx; and you have filled your treasures and your stores in you with gold. ¹⁴ From the day that you were created you were with the cherub; I set you on the holy mount of God; you were in the midst of the stones of fire. ¹⁵ You were faultless in your days, from the day that you were created, until iniquity was found in you. ¹⁶ Of the abundance of your merchandise you have filled your storehouses with iniquity, and have sinned. Therefore you have been cast down wounded from the mount of God, and the cherub has brought you out of the midst of the stones of fire. ¹⁷ Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; your knowledge has been corrupted by your beauty: because of the multitude of your sins I have cast you to the ground, I have caused you to be put to open shame before kings. ¹⁸ Because of the multitude of your sins and the iniquities of your merchandise, I have profaned your sacred things; and I will bring fire out of the midst of you, this shall devour you; and I will make you to be ashes upon your land before all that see you. ¹⁹ And all that know you among the nations shall groan over you. You have gone to destruction, and you shall not exist any longer.

¹⁶ At the sound of his fall the nations quaked, when I brought him down to Hades with them that go down to the pit. And all the trees of Delight comforted him in the heart, and the choice plants of Lebanon, all that drink water. ¹⁷ For they went down to hell with him among the slain with the sword; and his seed, even those that dwelt under his shadow, perished in the midst of their life.

⁴ If you should mount up as the eagle, and if you should make your nest among the stars, from there will I bring you down, says the Lord.

¹³ And leaving Nazareth behind, He came and settled down in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,

⁵ Now when He had entered Capernaum, a centurion approached Him, begging Him,

¹⁸ And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I shall build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

²⁴ When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the temple tax came to Peter and said, "Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?"

²³ He said to them, "You will surely say this proverb to Me, 'Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your hometown.' "

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

⁴⁶ Then Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick in Capernaum. ⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and asked Him that He might come down and heal his son, for he was about to die. ⁴⁸ Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe." ⁴⁹ The nobleman said to Him, "Sir, come down before my child dies!" ⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Go; your son lives." And the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and went away. ⁵¹ And already as he was going, his servants met him and reported, saying, "Your child lives!" ⁵² Then he inquired from them the hour at which he got better. And they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." ⁵³ Therefore the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives." And he himself believed, and his whole household. ⁵⁴ This again is the second sign Jesus did, after He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

²⁷ Because You will not abandon my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

⁴ For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but rather confined them to Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness, reserved for judgment; ⁵ and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, the eighth, a preacher of righteousness, when He brought a flood upon the ungodly world; ⁶ and reducing the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes, He condemned them to destruction, having made them an example who were to be ungodly, ⁷ and He rescued righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the indecent conduct of lawless men ⁸ (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, tormented his righteous soul by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)-- ⁹ then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and how to keep the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,

⁷ as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to fornication and having gone after other flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

⁸ And their corpse will lie on the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

⁶ ( { ε}) VAU. And the iniquity of the daughter of my people has been increased beyond the iniquities of Sodom, the city that was overthrown very suddenly, and none labored against her with their hands.

¹¹ And as many as do not receive you nor hear you, as you leave from there, shake off the dust underneath your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom or for Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!"

¹² I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.

¹⁹ And he blessed Abram, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, who made heaven and earth,

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I will stretch out my hand to the Lord, the Most High God, who made the heaven and the earth,

¹⁴ Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens belong to the Lord your God, the earth and all things that are in it. ¹⁵ Only the Lord chose your fathers, to love them, and He chose out their seed after them, even you, beyond all nations, as it is this day.

¹⁸ And Samuel ministered before the Lord, a child wearing a linen ephod.

⁴ And the Lord called, Samuel, Samuel; and he said, Behold, here am I. ⁵ And he ran to Eli and said, Here am I, for you called me. And he said, I did not call you; return, go to sleep. And he returned and went to sleep. ⁶ And the Lord called again, Samuel, Samuel; and he went to Eli the second time, and said, Behold here am I, for you called me. And he said, I did not call you; return, go to sleep. ⁷ And this was before Samuel knew the Lord, and before the word of the Lord was revealed to him. ⁸ And the Lord called Samuel again for the third time; and he arose and went to Eli, and said, Behold, I am here, for you called me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child. ⁹ And he said, Return, child, go to sleep; and it shall come to pass if He shall call you, that you shall say, Speak, for Your servant hears. And Samuel went and lay down in his place. ¹⁰ And the Lord came, and stood, and called him as before. And Samuel said, Speak, for Your servant hears. ¹¹ And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I execute My words in Israel; whoever hears them, both his ears shall tingle. ¹² In that day I will raise up against Eli all things that I have said against his house; I will begin, and I will make an end. ¹³ And I have told him that I will be avenged on his house perpetually for the iniquities of his sons, because his sons spoke evil against God, and he did not admonish them. ¹⁴ And it shall not go on so; I have sworn to the house of Eli, the iniquity of the house of Eli shall not be atoned for with incense or sacrifices forever. ¹⁵ And Samuel slept till morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord; and Samuel feared to tell Eli the vision. ¹⁶ And Eli said to Samuel, Samuel, my son; and he said, Behold, here am I. ¹⁷ And he said, What was the word that was spoken to you? I pray you do not hide it from me: may God do these things to you, and more also, if you hide from me anything of all the words that were spoken to you in your ears. ¹⁸ And Samuel reported all the words, and did not hide them from him. And Eli said, He is the Lord, He shall do that which is good in His sight. ¹⁹ And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and there did not fall one of his words to the ground. ²⁰ And all Israel knew, from Dan even to Beersheba, that Samuel was faithful as a prophet to the Lord. ²¹ And the Lord manifested Himself again in Shiloh, for the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel; and Samuel was accredited to all Israel as a prophet to the Lord from one end of the land to the other. And Eli was very old, and his sons kept advancing in wickedness, and their way was evil before the Lord.

¹⁵ and said, O Lord God of Israel, that dwells over the cherubim, You are the only God in all the kingdoms of the earth; You have made heaven and earth.

¹³ And now, O Lord, we give thanks to You, and praise Your glorious name.

² Out of the mouth of babes and infants You have perfected praise, because of Your enemies; that You might put down the enemy and avenger.

²¹ Woe to them that are wise in their own conceit, and knowing in their own sight.

¹⁰ For the Lord has made you to drink a spirit of deep sleep; and He shall close their eyes, and the eyes of their prophets and of their rulers, who see secret things. ¹¹ And all these things shall be to you as the words of this sealed book, which if they shall give to a learned man, saying, Read this, he shall then say, I cannot read it, for it is sealed. ¹² And this book shall be given into the hands of a man that is unlearned, and one shall say to him, Read this; and he shall say, I am not learned. ¹³ And the Lord has said, This people draw near to Me with their mouth, and they honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me; and in vain do they worship Me, teaching the commandments and doctrines of men. ¹⁴ Therefore behold, I will proceed to remove this people, and I will remove them; and I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will hide the understanding of the prudent.

¹⁸ And in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and they that are in darkness, and they that are in mist; the eyes of the blind shall see, ¹⁹ and the poor shall rejoice with joy because of the Lord, and they that had no hope among men shall be filled with joy.

¹ Thus says the Lord: Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool; what kind of a house will you build for Me? And of what kind is to be the place of My rest?

⁵ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; and before you came forth from the womb, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations. ⁶ And I said, O Lord, Sovereign Lord, behold, I know not how to speak, for I am a child. ⁷ And the Lord said to me, Say not, I am a child; for you shall go to all to whomsoever I shall send you, and according to all the words that I shall command you, you shall speak. ⁸ Be not afraid before them; for I am with you, to deliver you, says the Lord.

²³ I give thanks to You, and praise You, O God of my fathers, for You have given me wisdom and power, and have made known to me the things which we asked of You; and You have made known to me the king's vision.

³⁵ All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and He does according to His will in the host of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and there is none who shall withstand His power, and say to Him, What have You done?

¹¹ He answered and said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. ¹² For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. ¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: 'Hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you shall see and by no means perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn back, that I should heal them.' ¹⁶ "But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears, because they hear.

¹⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

³ and said, "Assuredly I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you shall by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁶ and said to Him, "Do You hear what these children are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes. Did you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise'?"

¹⁰ But when He was by himself, those around Him together with the twelve asked Him about the parable. ¹¹ And He said to them, "Unto you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come to be spoken in parables, ¹² so that 'Seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; Lest they should turn, and their sins be forgiven them.' "

¹⁴ But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Allow the little children come to Me, do not hinder them; for of such is the kingdom of God. ¹⁵ Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." ¹⁶ And taking them in His arms, laying His hands on them, He blessed them.

²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight." ²² And turning to His disciples He said, "All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." ²³ And turning to His disciples He said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see; ²⁴ for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and they did not see them, and to hear what you hear, and they did not hear."

⁴² saying, "Father, if You will, remove this cup from Me--nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done."

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd which does not know the law is accursed."

³⁹ And Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see might become blind." ⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?" ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.

⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

³⁸ that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?" ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they should see with their eyes, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them."

²⁴ The God who made the world and all the things in it, Him being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in sanctuaries made by human hands,

⁸ Just as it is written: "God has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day." ⁹ And David says: "Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a recompense to them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, and their back always be bowed down."

¹⁸ For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. ¹⁹ For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the prudent I will annul." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, God was well pleased, through the foolishness of our preaching, to save those that believe. ²² For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; ²³ but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness,

⁶ However, we speak wisdom among those that are perfect, but not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are being destroyed. ⁷ But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the wisdom having been hidden, which God foreordained before the ages for our glory, ⁸ which none of the rulers of this age knew (for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory).

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool, that he may become wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness"; ²⁰ and again, "The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are useless."

¹⁴ But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is removed in Christ.

³ But even if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden among those who are perishing, ⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that the illumination of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine on them. ⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ Because it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹³ But we are obligated to give thanks to God always for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth, ¹⁴ to which He called you through our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹³ But you say, Why has He not heard every word of my cause?

¹⁰ declaring beforehand the latter events before they come to pass, and they are accomplished together; and I said, all My counsel shall stand, and I will do all things that I have planned;

²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight."

¹⁸ So then He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

³³ Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and untraceable are His ways! ³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has been His counselor?" ³⁵ "Or who has first given to Him, and it shall be repaid to him?" ³⁶ For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be the glory forever! Amen.

⁹ having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,

¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

¹¹ according to the eternal purpose which He made in Christ Jesus our Lord,

⁹ who having saved us, and having called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time itself,

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.

²² And turning to His disciples He said, "All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him."

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, He who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.

²¹ For as the Father raises up the dead and gives life, thus also the Son gives life to whom He wills. ²² For the Father judges no one, but He has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ so that all may honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. ²⁴ "Most assuredly I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ Most assuredly I say to you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those having heard shall live. ²⁶ For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, ²⁷ and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming in which all those in the tombs will hear His voice ²⁹ and shall come forth--those who have done good, to a resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to a resurrection of condemnation.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.

²⁹ I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me."

¹⁵ Just as the Father knows Me, I also know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

³ Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. ⁷ "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and you have seen Him." ⁸ Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." ⁹ Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He that has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

² just as You have given Him authority over all flesh, so that He will give eternal life to all You have given Him. ³ And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

⁶ I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You have given them to Me, and they have kept Your word.

²⁵ O righteous Father! Indeed the world did not know You, yet I knew You; and these knew that You sent Me. ²⁶ And I made known to them Your name, and I will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

²⁵ For He must reign till He puts all His enemies under His feet. ²⁶ The last enemy that will be abolished is death. ²⁷ For "He has subjected all things under His feet." But when He says that "all things have been subjected," it is evident that this is except for Him who subjected all things to Him.

²⁰ which He worked in Christ, having raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenlies, ²¹ above every ruler and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the coming age. ²² And He subjected all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, ²³ which is His body, the fullness of Him filling all things in all.

¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee may bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue may confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

⁸ You have subjected all things under his feet." For in subjecting to him all things, He left nothing not subjected to him. But now we do not yet see all things having been subjected to him. ⁹ But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, through the suffering of death, having been crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God, He might taste death for everyone. ¹⁰ For it was fitting for Him, on account of whom are all things and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the Author of their salvation through sufferings.

²² who having gone into heaven, is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers being subjected to Him.

²³ Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the evil one. ²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true; and we are in Him that is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

⁹ Everyone who transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ, this one has both the Father and the Son.

^{17 (3:18)} And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat of it — of that you have eaten, cursed is the ground in your labors, in pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life. ^{18 (3:19)} Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. ^{19 (3:20)} In the sweat of your face shall you eat your bread until you return to the ground out of which you were taken, for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.

⁷ yet man is born to labor, and even so the vulture's young seek the high places.

⁴ For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; I became thoroughly miserable while a thorn was fastened in me. Pause.

⁴ For my transgressions have gone over my head; they have pressed heavily upon me like a weighty burden.

⁷ For we have perished in Your anger, and in Your wrath we have been troubled. ⁸ You have set our transgressions before You; our age is in the light of Your countenance. ⁹ For all our days are gone, and we have passed away in Your wrath; our years have spun out their tale as a spider. ¹⁰ As for the days of our years, in them are seventy years; and if men should be in strength, eighty years; and the greater part of them would be labor and trouble; for weakness overtakes us, and we shall be chastened.

¹³ to give him rest from evil days, until the pit is dug for the wicked.

⁷ Return to your rest, O my soul; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

⁸ All things are full of labor; a man will not be able to speak of them. Neither shall the eye be satisfied with seeing, neither shall the ear be filled with hearing.

¹⁴ I beheld all the works that were done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

²² For it happens to a man in all his labor, and in the purpose of his heart in which he labors under the sun. ²³ For all his days are sorrowful, and vexation of spirit is his; in the night also his heart rests not. This is also vanity.

⁸ There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he has neither son nor brother: yet there is no end to all his labor; neither is his eye satisfied with wealth. And for whom do I labor, and deprive my soul of good? This is also vanity, and an evil trouble.

⁴ Alas, sinful nation, a people full of sins, an evil seed, lawless children; you have forsaken the Lord, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁰ And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, and He that shall arise to rule over the Gentiles; in Him shall the Gentiles trust, and His rest shall be glorious.

¹² This is the rest to him that is hungry, and this is the calamity; but they would not hear.

²² Turn to Me, and you shall be saved, you that come from the end of the earth; I am God, and there is none other. ²³ By Myself I swear, righteousness shall surely proceed out of My mouth; My words shall not be frustrated; that to Me every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall swear by God, ²⁴ saying, Righteousness and glory shall come to Him; and all that remove them from their borders shall be ashamed. ²⁵ By the Lord shall they be justified, and in God shall all the seed of the children of Israel be glorified.

¹⁷ Thus says the Lord that delivered you, the Holy One of Israel; I am your God, I have shown you how you should find the way in which you should walk. ¹⁸ And if you had hearkened to My commandments, then would your peace have been like a river, and your righteousness as a wave of the sea.

² We brought a report as of a child before Him; He is as a root in a thirsty land; He has no form, nor comeliness; and we saw Him, but He had no form nor beauty. ³ But His form was ignoble, and inferior to that of the children of men; He was a man in suffering, and acquainted with the bearing of sickness, for His face has turned from us; He was dishonored, and not esteemed.

¹ You that thirst, go to the water, and all that have no money, go and buy; and eat and drink wine and milk without money or price. ² Why do you value at the price of money, and give your labor for that which will not satisfy? Hearken to Me, and you shall eat that which is good, and your soul shall feast itself on good things. ³ Give heed with your ears, and follow My ways; hearken to Me, and your soul shall live in prosperity; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, the sure mercies of David.

³ that there should be given to them that mourn in Zion glory instead of ashes, the oil of joy to the mourners, the garment of glory for the spirit of heaviness; and they shall be called generations of righteousness, the planting of the Lord for glory.

¹⁶ Thus says the Lord, Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths of the Lord; and see what is the good way and walk in it, and you shall find purification for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in them.

⁶ With what shall I reach the Lord, and lay hold of my God most high? Shall I reach Him by whole burnt offerings, by calves of a year old? ⁷ Will the Lord accept thousands of rams, or ten thousands of fat goats? Should I give my first born for ungodliness, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? ⁸ Has it not been told you, O man, what is good? Or what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and love mercy, and be ready to walk with the Lord your God?

²⁹ Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

⁴ For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they do not desire to move them with their finger.

³⁷ All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

³⁷ Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.

¹⁰ Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

²² For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. ²³ But I see a different law in my members, waging war with the law of my mind, and capturing me by the law of sin which is in my members. ²⁴ O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death? ²⁵ I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself with the mind serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

¹ Stand fast therefore in the freedom in which Christ has made us free, and do not be loaded down again with a yoke of bondage.

⁷ and to give you who are being afflicted rest along with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His mighty angels,

¹ Therefore let us fear, lest while the promise remains to enter into His rest, anyone of you seems to have fallen short.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. The one who desires, let him take the water of life freely.

³ And the man Moses was very meek beyond all the men that were upon the earth.

¹ A Song of Degrees. O Lord, my heart is not exalted, neither have my eyes been haughtily raised: neither have I exercised myself in great matters, nor in things too wonderful for me.

¹ Jacob is My servant, I will help him; Israel is My elect, My soul has accepted him; I have put My Spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. ² He shall not cry, nor lift up his voice, nor shall his voice be heard without. ³ A bruised reed he shall not break, and smoking flax he shall not quench; but he shall bring forth judgment to truth. ⁴ He shall shine out, and shall not be discouraged, until he has set judgment on the earth; and in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

²⁴ "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock:

²⁷ All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone fully know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. ²⁸ Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

¹⁹ He will not quarrel nor cry out, nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets. ²⁰ A bruised reed He shall not break, and a smoldering wick He shall not quench, till He bring forth justice to victory;

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"

⁴⁶ "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say? ⁴⁷ Everyone who comes to Me, and hears My words and does them, I will show you to whom he is like: ⁴⁸ He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep and laid a foundation on the rock. And when a flood occurred, the stream burst upon that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.

³⁵ Then they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had come out of, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and being of sound mind. And they were afraid.

⁵¹ Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, ⁵² and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, so they might prepare for Him. ⁵³ But they did not receive Him, because He was determined to go to Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ And when they saw this, James and John His disciples said, "Lord, do You wish that we should call down fire from heaven and consume them, as Elijah did?" ⁵⁵ But turning, He rebuked them, and said, "You do not know of what sort of spirit you are. ⁵⁶ For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them." And they went to another village.

³⁹ And the woman had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and was listening to His word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, don't You care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." ⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. ⁴² But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

¹⁵ For I gave you an example, that just as I did to you, you also should do.

¹⁷ If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

²¹ He that has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will manifest Myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, and what has happened that You are about to manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and we will make Our home with him. ²⁴ He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.

¹⁰ If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and I abide in His love. ¹¹ These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may abide in you, and that your joy may be full. ¹² This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love has no one than this, that one should lay down his life on behalf of his friends. ¹⁴ You are My friends if you do what I command you.

²² For Moses said to the fathers, 'The LORD our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. ²³ 'And it shall be that every person who does not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.'

³⁷ "This is that Moses who said to the sons of Israel, 'The LORD our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers.

²¹ to those outside the law, as one outside the law (not being outside the law toward God, but subject to the law toward Christ), in order that I might win those outside the law;

¹ Now I, Paul, myself appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who face to face am lowly among you, but when I am away am bold toward you.

⁵ casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ,

²⁰ But you did not thus learn Christ, ²¹ if indeed you have heard Him and were instructed by Him, just as the truth is in Jesus:

⁵ Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

⁷ but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming to be in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself, becoming obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

⁸ in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ For we who have believed enter that rest, as He has said: "So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. ⁴ For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day thus, "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works"; ⁵ and again in this place: "They shall not enter My rest." ⁶ Therefore since it remains for some to enter into it, and those formerly having the gospel preached to them did not enter on account of disobedience, ⁷ again He appoints a certain day, saying in David, "Today," after such a time, just as it has been said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts." ⁸ For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not have spoken afterward of another day. ⁹ Then there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. ¹⁰ For he who has entered into His rest also rested himself from his works, as God did from His own. ¹¹ Let us therefore be diligent to enter into that rest, lest anyone falls in the same example of disobedience.

⁹ And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

²¹ For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving behind an example for you, that you should follow in His footsteps, ²² "Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth"; ²³ who, being verbally abused, did not return verbal insults, when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

⁶ He who claims to abide in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

¹⁷ Her ways are good ways, and all her paths are peaceful.

⁸ Has it not been told you, O man, what is good? Or what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and love mercy, and be ready to walk with the Lord your God?

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but have courage, I have overcome the world."

²⁸ For it seemed best to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to put on you no greater burden except for these necessary things:

⁴ who comforts us in all our tribulation, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, by means of the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ⁵ Because just as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.

¹⁷ For our momentary light affliction is working out for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

⁹ And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ¹⁰ Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in calamities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

¹⁸ But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

³ For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome,
