¹ He that loves instruction loves sense, but he that hates reproofs is a fool. ² He that has found favor with the Lord is made better, but a transgressor shall be passed over in silence. ³ A man shall not prosper by wickedness, but the roots of the righteous shall not be taken up. ⁴ A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but as a worm in wood, so a bad woman destroys her husband. ⁵ The thoughts of the righteous are true judgments, but ungodly men devise deceits. ⁶ The words of ungodly men are crafty, but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them. ⁷ When the ungodly is overthrown, he vanishes away, but the houses of the just remain. ⁸ The mouth of an understanding man is praised by a man, but he that is dull of heart is had in derision. ⁹ Better is a man in dishonor serving himself, than one honoring himself and wanting bread. ¹⁰ A righteous man has pity for the lives of his cattle, but the bowels of the ungodly are unmerciful. ¹¹ He that tills his own land shall be satisfied with bread; but they that pursue vanities are void of understanding. ^(12:11A) He that enjoys himself in banquets of wine, shall leave dishonor in his own strongholds. ¹² The desires of the ungodly are evil, but the roots of the godly are firmly set. ¹³ For the sin of his lips a sinner falls into snare, but a righteous man escapes from them. ^(12:13A) He whose looks are gentle shall be pitied, but he that contends in the gates will afflict souls. ¹⁴ The soul of a man shall be filled with good from the fruits of his mouth, and the recompense of his lips shall be given to him. ¹⁵ The ways of fools are right in their own eyes, but a wise man heeds counsel. ¹⁶ A fool declares his wrath the same day, but a prudent man hides his own disgrace. ¹⁷ A righteous man declares the open truth, but an unjust witness is deceitful. ¹⁸ Some wound as they speak, like swords, but the tongues of the wise heal. ¹⁹ True lips establish testimony, but a hasty witness has an unjust tongue. ²⁰ There is deceit in the heart of him that imagines evil, but they that love peace shall rejoice. ²¹ No injustice will please a just man, but the ungodly will be filled with mischief. ²² Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but he that deals faithfully is accepted by Him. ²³ An understanding man is a throne of wisdom, but the heart of fools shall meet with curses. ²⁴ The hand of chosen men shall easily obtain rule, but the deceitful shall be for a prey. ²⁵ A terrible word troubles the heart of a righteous man, but a good message rejoices him. ²⁶ A just arbitrator shall be his own friend, but mischief shall pursue sinners, and the way of ungodly men shall lead them astray. ²⁷ A deceitful man shall catch no game, but a blameless man is a precious possession. ²⁸ In the ways of righteousness is life, but the ways of those that remember injuries lead to death.

⁹ Be not as the horse and mule, which have no understanding; but you must constrain their jaws with bit and bridle, lest they should come near to you.

⁶ A foolish man will not know, and a senseless man will not understand this.

²⁷ Instruct me in the ways of Your statutes; and I will meditate on Your wondrous works.

⁹⁷ How I have loved Your law, O Lord! It is my meditation all the day. ⁹⁸ You have made me wiser than my enemies in Your commandment; for it is mine forever. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers; for Your testimonies are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more that the aged; because I have sought out Your commandments.

¹⁰ For if wisdom shall come into your understanding, and discernment shall seem pleasing to your soul, ¹¹ then good counsel shall guard you, and holy understanding shall keep you;

¹² and you shall say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs! ¹³ I heard not the voice of him that instructed me, and taught me, neither did I incline my ear.

¹⁷ I love those that love me, and they that seek me shall find me.

³² Now then, my son, hear me: blessed is the man who shall listen to me, and the mortal who shall keep my ways;

⁷ He that reproves evil men shall get dishonor to himself, and he that rebukes an ungodly man shall disgrace himself. ⁸ Rebuke not evil men, lest they should hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁰ The instruction of the simple is known by them that pass by, but they that hate reproofs die disgracefully.

¹ A man who wishes to separate from friends seeks excuses, but at all times he will be liable to reproach.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel does not know Me, and the people have not regarded Me.

¹⁰ and in all deception of unrighteousness among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹⁵ The heathen are caught in the destruction which they planned: in the very snare which they hid is their foot taken.

⁵ The good man is he that pities and lends; he will direct his affairs with judgment.

³¹ Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.

¹⁸ a heart devising evil thoughts, and feet hastening to do evil, are hateful to God.

³⁵ For my outgoings are the outgoings of life, and in them is prepared favor from the Lord.

⁸ There is no man that has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; and there is no power in the day of death; and there is no discharge in the day of the battle; neither shall wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

⁵ And they shall no longer tell a fool to rule, and your servants shall no longer say, Be silent. ⁶ For the fool shall speak foolish words, and his heart shall meditate vanities, and to perform lawless deeds and to speak error against the Lord, to scatter hungry souls, and He will cause the thirsty souls to be empty. ⁷ For the counsel of the wicked will devise iniquity, to destroy the poor with unjust words, and ruin the cause of the poor in judgment.

²⁴ for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a considerable crowd was added to the Lord.

⁷ For scarcely on behalf of a righteous man will anyone die; yet on behalf of the good, perhaps someone might even dare to die.

³³ And blessed be your conduct, and blessed are you, who has hindered me this very day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself.

³ And I have seen foolish ones taking root, but suddenly their habitation was devoured. ⁴ Let their children be far from safety, and let them be crushed at the doors of vile men, and let there be no deliverer. ⁵ For what they have collected, the just shall eat; but they shall not be delivered out of calamities — let their strength be utterly exhausted.

²⁹ Neither shall he grow rich, nor shall his substance remain: he shall not cast a shadow upon the earth.

⁵ But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction: ⁶ although his gifts should go up to heaven, and his sacrifice reach the clouds. ⁷ For when he shall seem to be established, then he shall utterly perish, and those that knew him shall say, Where is he? ⁸ Like a dream that has fled away, he shall not be found; and he has fled like a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye has looked upon him, but shall not see him again; and his place shall no longer perceive him.

¹⁶ Even if he should gather silver as dust, and prepare gold as clay, ¹⁷ all these things shall the righteous gain, and the true-hearted shall possess His wealth. ¹⁸ And his house is gone like moths, and like a spider's web.

⁵ He has not lent his money on usury, and has not received bribes against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be moved.

¹ A Song of Degrees. They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion: he that dwells in Jerusalem shall never be moved. ² The mountains are round about her, and so the Lord is round about His people, from this time forth and forever.

²⁵ When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes forever.

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; being rooted and founded in love,

⁷ having been rooted and built up in Him and being established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

¹ Wise women build houses, but a foolish one digs hers down with her hands.

³⁰ A meek-spirited man is a healer of the heart, but passion is a corruption to the bones.

¹³ A foolish son is a disgrace to his father; vows paid out of the hire of a harlot are not pure. ¹⁴ Fathers divide house and substance to their children, but a wife is suited to a man by the Lord.

⁹ It is better to dwell in a corner on the housetop, than in plastered rooms with unrighteousness, and in an open house.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and talkative and passionate woman.

¹⁵ On a stormy day drops of rain drive a man out of his house, so also does a railing woman drive a man out of his own house. ¹⁶ The north wind is sharp, but it is called by name propitious.

¹⁰ Who shall find a virtuous woman? For such a one is more valuable than precious stones. ¹¹ The heart of her husband trusts in her; such a one shall stand in no need of fine spoils. ¹² For she employs all her living for her husband's good. ¹³ Gathering wool and flax, she makes it serviceable with her hands. ¹⁴ She is like a ship trading from a distance — so she procures her livelihood. ¹⁵ And she rises by night, and gives food to her household, and appointed tasks to her maidens. ¹⁶ She views a farm, and buys it; and with the fruit of her hands she plants and a possession. ¹⁷ She strongly girds her loins, and strengthens her arms for work. ¹⁸ And she finds by experience that working is good, and her lamp does not go out all night. ¹⁹ She reaches forth her arms to needful works, and applies her hands to the spindle. ²⁰ And she opens her hands to the needy, and reaches out fruit to the poor. ²¹ Her husband is not anxious about those at home when he tarries anywhere abroad: for all her household are clothed. ²² She makes for her husband clothes of double texture, and garments for herself of fine linen and scarlet. ²³ And her husband becomes a distinguished person in the gates, when he sits in council with the old inhabitants of the land. ²⁴ She makes fine linens, and sells sashes to the Canaanites; she opens her mouth heedfully and with propriety, and controls her tongue. ²⁵ She puts on strength and honor, and rejoices in the last days.

¹⁶ I watched, and my belly trembled at the sound of the prayer of my lips, and trembling entered into my bones, and my frame was troubled within me; I will rest in the day of affliction, from going up to the people of my sojourning.

⁷ For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.

¹¹ Nevertheless, neither is the man apart from the woman, nor the woman apart from the man, in the Lord.

² Everyone has spoken vanity to his neighbor: their lips are deceitful, they have spoken with a double heart. ³ Let the Lord destroy all the deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaks great words;

² For he has dealt craftily before him, to discover his iniquity and hate it. ³ The words of his mouth are transgression and deceit; he is not inclined to understand how to do good. ⁴ He devises iniquity on his bed; he gives himself to every evil way; and does not abhor evil.

⁶ And if he came to see me, his heart spoke vainly; he gathered iniquity to himself; he went forth and spoke in like manner. ⁷ All my enemies whispered against me; against me they devised my hurt.

¹⁵ I will meditate on Your commandments, and consider Your ways.

²³ Prove me, O God, and know my heart; examine me, and know my paths;

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O Lord, from the evil man; deliver me from the unjust man. ² Who have devised injustice in their hearts; all the day they prepared war. ³ They have sharpened their tongue as the tongue of a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Pause.

²³ All the desire of the righteous is good, but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.

⁹ The fools also dies in sins, and uncleanness attaches to a pestilent man.

⁷ let the ungodly leave his ways, and the transgressor his counsels; and let him return to the Lord, and he shall find mercy; for He shall abundantly pardon your sins.

¹⁴ Cleanse your heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem, that you may be saved; how long will your grievous thoughts be within you?

³ But when Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And having gathered together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired from them where the Christ would be born. ⁵ So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ⁶ 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come forth a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.' " ⁷ Then Herod, secretly having called the wise men, ascertained from them the time that the star appeared. ⁸ And having sent them to Bethlehem, he said, "Go and carefully search for the young Child, and as soon as you find Him, report back to me, so that I also may come and worship Him."

¹⁶ Then Herod, seeing that he had been deceived by the wise men, was greatly enraged; and he sent and executed all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men.

⁴ and plotted to take Jesus by guile and kill Him.

⁵ So then judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who also will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make clear the purposes of the hearts. Then each one's praise shall come from God.

² but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor falsifying the word of God, but by the disclosure of the truth, commending ourselves to every man's conscience before God.

¹ And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Let me now choose out for myself twelve thousand men, and I will arise and follow after David this night. ² And I will come upon him when he is weary and weak-handed, and I will strike him with terror; and all the people with him shall flee, and I will smite the king alone. ³ And I will bring back all the people to you, as a bride returns to her husband: only you seek the life of one man, and all the people shall have peace. ⁴ And the saying was right in the eyes of Absalom, and in the eyes of all the elders of Israel.

⁷ And Mordecai showed him what was done, and the promise which Haman had made the king of ten thousand talents to be paid into the treasury, that he might destroy the Jews. ⁸ And he gave him the copy of the writing that was published in Susa concerning their destruction, to show to Esther. And told him to command her to go in and make supplication to the king, and to beg him for the people, remembering, he said, the days of your low estate, how you were nursed by my hand — because Haman, who holds the next place to the king, has spoken against us for death. Call upon the Lord, and speak to the king concerning us, to deliver us from death! ⁹ So Hathach went in and told her all these words. ¹⁰ And Esther said to Hathach, Go to Mordecai, and say, ¹¹ All the nations of the empire know, that whoever, man or woman, shall go in to the king into the inner court uncalled, that person cannot live. Only to whomsoever the king shall stretch out his golden scepter, he shall live; and I have not been called to go into the king, for these thirty days. ¹² And Hathach reported to Mordecai all the words of Esther. ¹³ Then Mordecai said to Hathach, Go, and say to her, Esther, say not to yourself that you alone will escape in the kingdom, more than all the other Jews. ¹⁴ For if you shall refuse to heed on this occasion, help and protection will be to the Jews from another quarter; but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows if you have been made queen for this very occasion.

⁴ For both I and my people have been sold for destruction, and pillage, and slavery; both we and our children as bondmen and bondwomen. And I consented not to it, for the slanderer is not worthy of the king's palace. ⁵ And the king said, Who is this that has dared to do this thing? ⁶ And Esther said, the adversary is Haman, this wicked man. Then Haman was troubled before the king and the queen.

¹¹ If they should exhort you, saying, Come with us, partake in blood, and let us unjustly hide the just man in the earth: ¹² and let us swallow him alive, as Hades would, and remove the memorial of him from the earth: ¹³ let us seize on his valuable property, and let us fill our houses with spoils: ¹⁴ but cast in your lot with us, and let us all provide a common purse, and let us have one pouch: ¹⁵ go not in the way with them, let your foot turn aside from their paths: ¹⁶ (TEXT OMITTED) ¹⁷ for nets are not spread for the birds without cause. ¹⁸ For they that are concerned in murder store up evils for themselves; and the overthrow of transgressors is evil. ¹⁹ These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life.

³ Out of the mouth of fools comes a rod of pride, but the lips of the wise preserve them.

⁷ And their feet run to wickedness, and are swift to shed blood; their thoughts also are thoughts of murder; destruction and misery are in their ways;

²⁶ For among My people were found ungodly men; and they have set snares to destroy men, and have caught them.

¹ Alas for me! For I have become as one gathering straw in harvest, and as one gathering grape-gleanings in the vintage, when there is no cluster for me to eat the first-ripe fruit: alas my soul! ² For the godly has perished from the earth; and there is none upright among men: they all quarrel even to blood: they grievously afflict everyone his neighbor.

¹² Now when it was day, some of the Jews joined in a conspiracy and bound themselves by a curse, saying neither would they eat nor drink until they would kill Paul.

¹⁵ Now you, therefore, together with the council, suggest to the commander that he be brought down to you tomorrow, as though you are going to determine more accurately the things concerning him; but we, before he comes near, are prepared to kill him."

³ asking for favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem--while planning an ambush to kill him along the way.

¹⁶ And his house shall be made sure, and his kingdom forever before Me, and his throne shall be established forever.

²⁶ Let Your name be magnified forever.

⁶ And in the city Susa the Jews killed five hundred men: ⁷ Also Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, ⁸ Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, ⁹ Parmashta, Ruphaeus, Aridai, and Vajezatha, ¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha the Bugaean, the enemy of the Jews, and they plundered their property on the same day.

¹⁴ And he permitted it to be so done; and he gave up to the Jews of the city the bodies of the sons of Haman, to hang.

³ And I have seen foolish ones taking root, but suddenly their habitation was devoured. ⁴ Let their children be far from safety, and let them be crushed at the doors of vile men, and let there be no deliverer.

²⁰ But safety shall fail them, for their hope is destruction, and the eyes of the ungodly shall waste away.

¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle in his night: his excellency shall be sown with brimstone. ¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up from beneath, and his crop shall fall away from above. ¹⁷ Let his memorial perish out of the earth, and his name shall be publicly cast out. ¹⁸ Let one drive him from light into darkness. ¹⁹ He shall not be known among his people, nor his house preserved on the earth. ²⁰ But strangers shall dwell in his possessions: the last groaned for him, and wonder seized the first.

¹⁸ And his house is gone like moths, and like a spider's web. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, and shall not continue: he has opened his eyes, and he is no more. ²⁰ Pains have come upon him as water, and darkness has carried him away by night. ²¹ And a burning wind shall catch him, and he shall depart, and it shall utterly drive him out of his place. ²² And God shall cast trouble upon him, and not spare: he flees desperately from out of His hand. ²³ He shall cause men to clap their hands against them, and shall hiss him out of his place.

²⁵ Who discovers their works, and will bring night about upon them, and they shall be brought low.

¹⁰ And yet a little while, and the sinner shall not be, and you shall seek for his place, and shall not find it.

³⁵ I saw the ungodly very highly exalting himself, and lifting himself up like the cedars of Lebanon. ³⁶ Yet I passed by, and lo! He was not; and I sought him, but his place was not found. ³⁷ Maintain innocence, and behold uprightness; for there is a remnant to the peaceable man.

¹⁸ Surely You have appointed judgments to them because of their crafty dealings; You have cast them down when they were lifted up. ¹⁹ How have they become desolate! Suddenly they have failed; they have perished because of their iniquity.

²¹ He that unjustly strikes hands shall not be unpunished, but he that sows righteousness shall receive a faithful reward.

¹¹ The houses of ungodly men shall be utterly destroyed, but the tabernacles of them that walk uprightly shall stand.

²⁵ The Lord pulls down the houses of scorners, but He establishes the border of the widow.

³ A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding. ⁴ By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.

²⁴ "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock: ²⁵ and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand: ²⁷ and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And its fall was great."

³⁹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God has shown you all these things, there is not a wiser or more prudent man than you.

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly, for you have not kept my command, which the Lord commanded you, as now the Lord would have confirmed your kingdom over Israel forever.

¹⁸ And one of his servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, and he understands playing on the harp, and the man is prudent, and a warrior, and wise in speech, and the man is handsome, and the Lord is with him.

¹⁷ And now consider what you will do; for mischief is determined against our lord and against his house; and he is a vile character, and one cannot speak to him.

¹⁸ His enemies will I clothe with shame; but upon Himself shall My holiness flourish.

²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you:

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory, but the ungodly have exalted their own dishonor.

²³ Such a man dies with the uninstructed, and he is cast forth from the abundance of his own substance, and has perished through folly.

¹ Who knows the wise? And who knows the interpretation of a saying? A man's wisdom will lighten his countenance; but a man of shameless countenance will be hated.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproach and everlasting shame.

⁸ But you have turned aside from the way, and caused many to fail in following the law: you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the Lord Almighty. ⁹ And I have made you despised and cast out among all the people, because you have not kept My ways, but have been partial in the law.

⁴ saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" ⁵ And throwing the silver coins in the sanctuary, he departed; and going away, he hanged himself.

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is a faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. ⁴⁴ Truly I say to you, that he will appoint him over all his possessions.

⁸ So the master praised the unrighteous manager because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this age are shrewder in their own generation than the sons of light.

²³ Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And becoming eaten by worms, he died.

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise architect I have laid the foundation, but another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. ¹¹ For no other foundation can anyone lay, other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ¹² Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, ¹³ each one's work shall be made manifest; for the Day shall reveal it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall test each one's work, as to what sort it is. ¹⁴ If anyone's work which he has built remains, he shall receive a reward. ¹⁵ If anyone's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, but so as through fire.

¹⁸ For not he who commends himself is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.

⁷ There are some who, having nothing, enrich themselves, and there are some who bring themselves down in the midst of much wealth.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

¹³ And he said to him, My lord knows, that the children are very tender, and the flocks and the herds with me are with young; if then I shall drive them hard one day, all the cattle will die. ¹⁴ Let my lord go on before his servant, and I shall have strength on the road according to the ease of the journey before me, and according to the strength of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.

²⁶ And Judah said to his brothers, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? ²⁷ Come, let us sell him to these Ishmaelites, but let not our hands be upon him, because he is our brother and our flesh; and his brothers listened. ²⁸ And the men, the merchants of Midian, went by, and they drew and lifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of gold; and they brought Joseph down into Egypt.

²⁸ And God opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have struck me this third time? ²⁹ And Balaam said to the donkey, Because you have mocked me; and if I had a sword in my hand, I would now have killed you. ³⁰ And the donkey said to Balaam, Am not I your donkey on which you have ridden since your youth till this day? Did I ever do thus to you, utterly disregarding you? And he said, No. ³¹ And God opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the Angel of the Lord withstanding him in the way, and His sword drawn in His hand, and he stooped down and worshipped on his face. ³² And the Angel of the Lord said to him, Why have you struck your donkey this third time? And behold, I came out to withstand you, for your way is unseemly before Me. And when the donkey saw Me, she turned away from Me this third time.

⁴ You shall not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain.

⁷ And Adoni-Bezek said, Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their big toes cut off, gathered their food under my table: as I therefore have done, so God has recompensed me: and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

² And Nahash the Ammonite said to them, On these terms will I make a covenant with you, that I will put out all your right eyes, and I will lay a reproach upon Israel.

¹¹ The woman said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?

³¹ Therefore the Jews, since it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away. ³² Then the soldiers came and they broke the legs of the first man, and of the other who was crucified with Him.

¹³ For judgment is without mercy to the one who does not show mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. ¹⁴ What does it profit, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Is that kind of faith able to save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the necessary things of the body, what is the benefit?

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother having need, and shuts off his compassion towards him, how does the love of God abide in him?

^{19 (3:20)} In the sweat of your face shall you eat your bread until you return to the ground out of which you were taken, for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.

⁴ And they gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-Berith; and Abimelech hired for himself vain and cowardly men, and they went after him.

⁴ I have not sat with the council of vanity, and shall by no means enter in with transgressors.

² You shall eat the labors of your hands. Blessed are you, and it shall be well with you.

¹⁰ My son, let not ungodly men lead you astray, neither shall you consent to them.

¹⁴ Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors. ¹⁵ In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, do not go there; but turn from them, and pass away.

³² But the adulterer through lack of understanding procures destruction to his soul.

⁷ passing by the corner in the passages near her house,

⁶ Forsake folly, that you may reign forever; and seek wisdom, and improve understanding by knowledge.

¹³ A foolish and bold woman, who knows not modesty, comes to want a morsel.

¹⁶ saying, Whoever is the most senseless of you, let him turn aside to me; and I exhort those that want prudence, saying,

²⁰ If you walk with wise men you shall be wise, but he that walks with fools shall be known.

²³ The righteous shall spend many years in wealth, but the unrighteous shall perish suddenly.

⁴ Where no oxen are, the cribs are clean, but where there is abundant produce, the strength of the ox is apparent.

²³ With everyone who is careful there is abundance, but the pleasure-taking and indolent shall be in want.

²⁷ My son, you have from me words very useful for your life, and for the life of your servants.

¹⁹ He that tills his own land shall be satisfied with bread, but he that follows idleness shall have plenty of poverty.

^{8 (2:9)} Those that observe vanities and lies have forsaken their own mercy.

²⁸ Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working that which is good with his hands, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need.

¹¹ and that you aspire to be quiet, and to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, just as we commanded you, ¹² in order that you may walk decently toward those outside, and may have need of nothing.

⁸ nor did we eat bread from anyone without paying, but in labor and hardship, working night and day, so as not to be a burden to any of you,

¹⁰ For there are also many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ whom it is necessary to shut their mouths, who overturn whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

³ And he shall be as a tree planted by the brooks of waters, which shall yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf shall not fall off; and whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.

⁹ He lies in wait in secret as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to ravish the poor, to ravish the poor when he draws him after him: he will bring him down in his snare.

¹⁵ The wealth of rich men is a strong city, but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly.

⁵ He that prepares a net in the way of his own friend, entangles his own feet in it. ⁶ A great snare is spread for a sinner, but the righteous shall be in joy and gladness.

⁶ they that are coming are the children of Jacob. Israel shall bud and blossom, and the world shall be filled with his fruit.

³¹ And they that are left in Judah shall take root downward, and bear fruit upward;

²⁶ For among My people were found ungodly men; and they have set snares to destroy men, and have caught them. ²⁷ As a snare which has been set is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore have they grown great, and become rich. ²⁸ They have transgressed the rule of judgment; they have not judged the cause of the orphan, nor have they judged the cause of the widow.

⁷ But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. ⁸ And he shall be as a thriving tree by the waters, and he shall cast forth his root toward a moist place. He shall not fear when heat comes, and there shall be shady branches upon him; he shall not fear in a year of drought, and he shall not fail to bear fruit.

² For the godly has perished from the earth; and there is none upright among men: they all quarrel even to blood: they grievously afflict everyone his neighbor.

¹⁵ He has brought up destruction with a hook, and drawn one with a casting net, and caught another in his drags: therefore shall his heart rejoice and be glad. ¹⁶ Therefore will he sacrifice to his drag, and burn incense to his casting net, because by them he has made his portion fat, and his meats choice. ¹⁷ Therefore will he cast his net, and will not spare to slay the nations continually.

¹³ But those on the rock are they that, whenever they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of testing fall away. ¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns, these are those, who when they heard, go out and are choked with anxieties, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. ¹⁵ But that which fell on the good ground, these are such who when they heard the word, with a noble and good heart, hold on to it and bear fruit with endurance.

⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; because apart from Me you can do nothing.

¹⁶ You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you may ask the Father in My name He may give to you.

²² But now having been freed from sin, and having become enslaved to God, you have your fruit resulting in sanctification, and the end, eternal life.

¹⁶ the angel who delivers me from all evils, bless these boys, and my name shall be called upon them, and the name of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac; and let them be increased to a great multitude on the earth.

⁹ And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Berothite, and said to them, As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all affliction;

²³ And King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if it be not that Adonijah has spoken this word against his own life.

⁶ You will destroy all that speak falsehood: the Lord abhors the bloody and deceitful man.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but out of them all the Lord shall deliver them.

⁸ and their tongues have set him at nought, all that saw them were troubled;

² For a man's own lips become a strong snare to him, and he is caught with the lips of his own mouth.

⁸ A righteous man escapes from a snare, and the ungodly man is delivered up in his place.

² The tongue of the wise knows what is good, but the mouth of the foolish speaks evil things.

⁶ The lips of a fool bring him into troubles, and his bold mouth calls for death. ⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

²³ He that keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from trouble.

¹⁸ It is well for you to hold fast by this; also by this defile not your hand; for to them that fear God all things shall come forth well.

²⁴ And the king commanded, and they brought the men that had accused Daniel, and they were cast into the den of lions, they, their children, and their wives. And they did not reach the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them, and utterly broke to pieces all their bones.

²⁵ And all the people answered and said, "His blood be on us and on our children."

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ³⁶ Just as it is written: "For Your sake we are put to death the whole day long; we are accounted as sheep for slaughter." ³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

⁹ then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and how to keep the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,

⁵ Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness; and my joyful lips shall praise Your name.

² A good man shall eat of the fruits of righteousness, but the lives of transgressors shall perish before their time.

²³ A bad man will by no means obey counsel, neither will he say anything seasonable, or of good report.

²⁰ A man fills his belly with the fruits of his mouth, and he shall be satisfied with the fruits of his lips. ²¹ Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and they that rule it shall eat the fruits thereof.

¹⁰ Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil counsel against themselves, saying against themselves, Let us bind the just, for he is burdensome to us; therefore shall they eat the fruits of their works. ¹¹ Woe to the transgressor! Evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands.

⁴¹ He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."

²⁷ For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will render to each according to his works.

⁶ since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, ⁷ and to give you who are being afflicted rest along with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His mighty angels,

² For if the word which was spoken through angels was confirmed, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward,

²⁶ regarding the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward.

⁵ For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and a man of understanding will gain direction;

⁷ Be not wise in your own conceit; but fear God, and depart from all evil.

⁹ Give an opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more instruction.

¹² There is a way which seems to be right with men, but the ends of it reach to the depths of hell.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and departs from evil, but the fool trusts in himself, and joins himself with the transgressor.

^{2 (15:33A)} All the works of the humble man are manifest with God, but the ungodly shall perish in an evil day.

²⁵ There are ways that seem to be right to a man, but the end of them looks to the depth of hell.

²⁰ Hear, son, the instruction of your father, that you may be wise in your latter days.

² Every man seems to himself righteous, but the Lord directs the hearts.

¹² I have seen a man who seemed to himself to be wise; but a fool had more hope than he.

¹⁶ A sluggard seems to himself wiser than one who most satisfactorily brings back a message.

¹¹ A rich man is wise in his own conceit, but an intelligent poor man will condemn him.

¹² A wicked generation judge themselves to be just, but do not cleanse their way.

¹³ Better is a poor and wise child than an old and foolish king, who knows not how to take heed any longer.

¹⁵ And Jeremiah said to the king, If I tell you, will you not certainly put me to death? And if I give you counsel, you will by no means listen to me. ¹⁶ And the king swore to him, saying, As the Lord lives who gave us this soul, I will not slay you, neither will I give you into the hands of these men. ¹⁷ And Jeremiah said to him, Thus says the Lord: If you will indeed go forth to the captains of the king of Babylon, your soul shall live, and this city shall certainly not be burned with fire; and you shall live, and your house. ¹⁸ But if you will not go forth, then this city shall be delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall by no means escape. ¹⁹ And the king said to Jeremiah, I consider the Jews that have gone over to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hands, and they mock me. ²⁰ And Jeremiah said, They shall in no wise deliver you up. Hear the word of the Lord which I speak to you; and it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live. ²¹ But if you will not go forth, this is the word which the Lord has shown me. ²² And behold, all the women that are left in the house of the king of Judah were brought forth to the princes of the king of Babylon. And they said, The men who were at peace with you have deceived you, and will prevail against you; and they shall cause your foot to slide and fail, they have turned back from you. ²³ And they shall bring forth your wives and your children to the Chaldeans; and you shall by no means escape, for you shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon, and this city shall be burned. ²⁴ Then the king said to him, Let no man know any of these words, and certainly you shall not die. ²⁵ And if the princes shall hear that I have spoken to you, and they come to you, and say to you, Tell us, what did the king say to you? Do not hide it from us, and we will by no means kill you, and what did the king say to you? ²⁶ Then you shall say to them, I brought my supplication before the presence of the king, that he would not send me back into the house of Jonathan, that I should die there. ²⁷ And all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him. And he told them according to all these words which the king had commanded him. And they were silent, because the word of the Lord was not heard. ²⁸ And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison, until the time when Jerusalem was taken.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

³ For if anyone thinks that he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

³⁰ And Saul was exceedingly angry with Jonathan, and said to him, You son of a traitorous woman! For do I not know that you are an accomplice with the son of Jesse to yourself, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, your kingdom shall not be established: now then send and take the young man, for he shall surely die! ³² And Jonathan answered Saul, Why is he to die? What has he done? ³³ And Saul lifted up his spear against Jonathan to kill him, so Jonathan knew that this evil was determined on by his father to kill David. ³⁴ And Jonathan sprang up from the table in great anger, and did not eat bread on the second day of the month, for he grieved bitterly for David, because his father determined to do evil against him.

¹ And Ahab told Jezebel his wife all that Elijah had done, and how he had slain the prophets with the sword. ² And Jezebel sent to Elijah, and said, If you are Elijah and I am Jezebel, God do so to me and more also, if I do not make your life by this time tomorrow as the life of one of them!

¹² Hatred stirs up strife, but affection covers all that do not love strife.

³³ There is wisdom in the good heart of a man, but in the heart of fools it is not discerned.

²² Understanding is a fountain of life to its possessors, but the instruction of fools is evil.

⁹ He that conceals injuries seeks love, but he that hates to hide them separates friends and kindred.

²⁸ As a city whose walls are broken down, and which is unfortified, so is a man who does anything without counsel.

¹¹ A fool utters all his mind, but the wise reserves his in part.

¹⁹ So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

¹⁴ And he answered the king, and said, And who is there among all your servants as faithful as David, and he is a son-in-law of the king, and he is executor of all your commands, and is honorable in your house? ¹⁵ Have I begun today to inquire of God for him? By no means: let not the king bring a charge against his servant, and against any of my father's house, for your servant knew not in all these matters anything great or small.

¹⁹ An unjust witness kindles falsehoods, and brings on quarrels between brothers.

⁵ A faithful witness does not lie, but an unjust witness kindles falsehoods.

²⁵ A faithful witness shall deliver a soul from evil, but a deceitful man kindles falsehoods.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.

²⁸ He that becomes surety for a foolish child will despise the ordinance, and the mouth of ungodly men shall drink down judgment.

²⁸ A false witness shall perish, but an obedient man will speak cautiously.

²⁸ Be not a false witness against your fellow citizen, neither exaggerate with your lips.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the Sanhedrin were seeking false witnesses against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death,

¹³ And they put forward false witnesses saying, "This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against the holy place and the law;

¹⁶ having a good conscience, so that in what they speak against you as evildoers, those reviling your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame.

² your tongue has devised unrighteousness; like a sharpened razor you have worked deceit.

⁴ and He has delivered my soul from the midst of the lion's whelps; I lay down to sleep, though troubled. As for the sons of men, their teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ Behold, they shall utter a voice with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips; for who, they say, has heard?

³ who have sharpened their tongues as a sword; they have bent their bow maliciously;

²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

²⁰ The tongue of the just is choice silver, but the heart of the ungodly shall fail. ²¹ The lips of the righteous know sublime truths, but the foolish die in want.

¹⁷ A rash king shall fall into mischief, but a wise messenger shall deliver him.

⁴ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, and he that keeps it shall be filled with understanding.

⁷ The lips of the wise are bound by discretion, but the hearts of the foolish are not safe.

²⁴ Good words are like honeycombs, and the sweetness thereof is a healing of the soul.

¹⁸ As a club, and a dagger, and a pointed arrow, so also is a man who bears false witness against his friend.

³³ And the intelligent of the people shall understand much; yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, and by captivity, and by the spoil of many days.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. Thus the tongue is set among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every kind of both beasts and birds, of both reptiles and sea creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unrestrainable evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁶ He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was as the sun shining in its strength.

² In the middle of its street, and on both sides of the river was the tree of life, producing twelve fruits, each yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

⁵ But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction:

⁴ You have loved all words of destruction, and a deceitful tongue. ⁵ Therefore may God destroy you forever, may He pluck you up and utterly remove you from your dwelling, and your root from the land of the living. Pause.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and whosoever shall kindle mischief shall perish by it.

⁴ And be not as your fathers, whom the prophets before charged, saying, Thus says the Lord Almighty: Turn from your evil ways, and from your evil practices: but they did not hear, nor heed Me, says the Lord. ⁵ Where are your fathers, and the prophets? Will they live forever? ⁶ But do you receive My words and My ordinances, all that I command by My Spirit to My servants the prophets, who lived in the days of your fathers? And they answered and said, As the Lord Almighty determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so has He done to us.

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and for you to keep back for yourself from the price of the land? ⁴ While it remained unsold, did it not remain yours? And after it was sold, was it not in your control? Why have you purposed this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." ⁵ Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. And great fear came upon all those hearing these things. ⁶ And the young men rose up and covered him up, carried him out, and buried him. ⁷ And it happened about three hours later, that his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in. ⁸ And Peter answered her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?" She said, "Yes, for so much." ⁹ Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that it was agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out." ¹⁰ Then immediately she fell down beside his feet and died. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her with her husband.

²⁴ A weeping enemy promises all things with his lips, but in his heart he contrives deceit. ²⁵ Though your enemy intreat you with a loud voice, consent not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ He that hides enmity frames deceit, but being easily discerned, exposes his own sins in the public assemblies.

⁶ For a Child is born to us, and a Son is given to us, whose government is upon His shoulder; and His name is called the Messenger of great counsel; for I will bring peace upon the princes, and health to Him. ⁷ His government shall be great, and of His peace there is no end; it shall be upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to establish it, and to support it with judgment and with righteousness, from this time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.

¹⁶ But I have not been weary of following You, nor have I desired the day of man. You know the words that proceed out of my lips; they are before Your face.

¹³ And He shall receive power, and shall sit and rule upon His throne; and there shall be a priest on His right hand, and a peaceable counsel shall be between them both.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, arrogance, foolishness.

¹⁴ And they came and said to Him, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and it does not make a difference to you about anyone; for You do not look on the face of men, but you teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? ¹⁵ Should we give, or should we not give?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius, that I may see it." ¹⁶ So they brought one. And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" And they said to Him, "Caesar's." ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they marveled at Him.

²⁹ having been filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, greed, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness; they are whisperers,

¹⁴ Pursue peace and holiness with all people, without which no one shall see the Lord:

⁸ Finally, all of you be like-minded, sympathetic, loving the brothers, compassionate, friendly, ⁹ not rendering evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called for this purpose, that you may inherit a blessing. ¹⁰ For "He that desires to love life and see good days, let him stop his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile. ¹¹ Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. ¹² For the eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears open to their prayer; but the face of the LORD is against those doing evil." ¹³ And who is he that shall injure you if you become imitators of that which is good?

¹⁰ No evils shall come upon you, and no scourge shall draw near to your dwelling.

¹⁴ A stout-hearted man shall be filled with his own ways, and a good man with his own thoughts.

¹² And you shall say to this people, Every bottle shall be filled with wine. And it shall come to pass, if they shall say to you, Shall we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? That you shall say to them, ¹³ Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will fill the inhabitants of this land, and their kings, the sons of David that sit upon their throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and Judah and all the dwellers in Jerusalem, with strong drink. ¹⁴ And I will scatter them, a man and his brother, and their fathers and their sons together. I will not have compassion, says the Lord, and I will not spare, neither will I pity to save them from destruction.

¹⁶ Drink also your fill of disgrace instead of glory: shake, O heart, and quake, the cup of the right hand of the Lord has come round upon you, and dishonor has gathered upon your glory.

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

²² whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come-all things are yours. ²³ And you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

¹⁷ For our momentary light affliction is working out for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

¹³ And who is he that shall injure you if you become imitators of that which is good?

⁶ Give back to her as also she gave back, and pay back double as also she did, and according to her works. In her cup which she mixed, mix for her a double portion.

¹⁶ For he rejoices in all things which God hates, and he is ruined by reason of impurity of soul. ¹⁷ The eye of the haughty, an unjust tongue, hands shedding innocent blood,

¹ False balances are an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is acceptable unto Him.

²⁰ Perverse ways are an abomination to the Lord, but all they that are blameless in their ways are acceptable to Him.

⁸ The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable to Him.

¹⁵ the old man, and them that respect persons, this is the head; and the prophet teaching unlawful things, he is the tail.

²⁴ but let him that boasts boast in this: the understanding and knowing that I am the Lord that exercises mercy, and judgment, and righteousness upon the earth; for in these things is My pleasure, says the Lord.

¹⁹ And they have dishonored Me before My people for a handful of barley, and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls which should not die, and to save alive the souls which should not live, while you speak to a people hearing vain speeches.

²² Because you have perverted the heart of the righteous, whereas I perverted him not, and that in order to strengthen the hands of the wicked, that he should not at all turn from his evil way and live:

⁸ But the cowardly, and unbelieving, and sinners, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and drug users, and idolaters, and all who are false shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

¹⁵ But outside are dogs and drug users and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices a lie.

¹⁴ The wise will hide discretion, but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin.

¹⁹ By a multitude of words you shall not escape sin, but if you refrain your lips you will be prudent.

¹³ A double-tongued man discloses the secret counsels of an assembly, but he that is faithful in spirit conceals matters.

¹⁶ Every prudent man acts with knowledge, but the fool displays his own mischief.

³ Yea, and whenever a fool walks down the road, his heart will fail him, and all that he thinks of is folly.

¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow him up. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is folly, and the end of his talk mischievous madness. ¹⁴ A fool moreover multiplies words. No man knows what has been, nor what will be. Who shall tell him what will come after him?

¹⁵ And having seen the resting place that it was good, and the land that it was fertile, he subjected his shoulder to labor, and became a farmer.

²⁸ And the man Jeroboam was very strong; and Solomon saw the young man, that he was active, and he set him over the levies of the house of Joseph.

²⁰ And it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned out of Egypt, that they sent and called him to the assembly, and they made him king over Israel; and none followed the house of David except the tribe of Judah and Benjamin only.

⁴ Poverty brings a man low, but the hands of the vigorous make rich. ^(10:4A) A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant.

²⁷ A deceitful man shall catch no game, but a blameless man is a precious possession.

⁴ Every slothful man desires, but the hands of the active are diligent.

² A wise servant shall have rule over foolish masters, and shall divide portions among brethren.

¹⁵ Cowardice possesses the effeminate man, and the soul of the sluggard shall hunger.

²⁵ Desires kill the sluggard, for his hands do not choose to do anything. ²⁶ An ungodly man entertains evil desires all the day, but the righteous is unsparingly merciful and compassionate.

¹³ The sluggard makes excuses, and says, There is a lion in the road, and murderers in the streets.

²⁹ It is fit that an observant man and one diligent in his business should attend on kings, and not attend on slothful men.

³⁰ A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard. ³¹ If you let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down. ³² Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction. ³³ The sluggard says, I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across my breast. ³⁴ But if you do this, your poverty will come speedily; and your need like a swift courier.

¹³ A sluggard when sent on a journey says, There is a lion in the road, and there are murderers in the streets. ¹⁴ As a door turns on the hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed. ¹⁵ A sluggard having hid his hand in his bosom, will not be able to bring it up to his mouth. ¹⁶ A sluggard seems to himself wiser than one who most satisfactorily brings back a message.

¹ And it came to pass in the month of Nisan of the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, that the wine was before me. And I took the wine, and gave it to the king; and there was not another before him. ² And the king said to me, Why is your countenance sad, and you do not control yourself? And now this is nothing but sorrow of heart. Then I was very much alarmed,

⁶ I have been wretched and bowed down continually; I went with a mourning countenance all the day.

¹¹ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you trouble me? Hope in God; for I will give thanks to Him; He is the health of my countenance, and my God.

¹⁸ Some wound as they speak, like swords, but the tongues of the wise heal.

¹⁰ If a man's mind is intelligent, his soul is sorrowful; and when he rejoices, he has no fellowship with pride.

¹³ When the heart rejoices, the countenance is cheerful, but when it is in sorrow, the countenance is sad.

¹⁵ The eyes of the wicked are always looking for evil things, but the good are always quiet.

²² A glad heart promotes health, but the bones of a sorrowful man dry up.

¹⁴ A wise servant calms a man's anger, but who can endure a faint-hearted man?

¹¹ As a golden apple in a necklace of sardius, so is it to speak a wise word.

⁹ The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes, but the soul is broken by calamities.

⁴ The Lord, even God, gives me the tongue of instruction, to know when it is fit to speak a word; He has appointed for me early, He has given me an ear to hear;

¹³ And the Lord Almighty answered the angel that spoke with me good words and comforting sayings.

³³ And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be greatly amazed, and deeply depressed. ³⁴ Then He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death. Remain here and watch."

⁴ For out of much affliction and distress of heart I wrote to you, through many tears, not that you might be made sorrowful, but that you might know the love which I have more abundantly towards you. ⁵ Now if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, but in part--lest I burden you all. ⁶ Sufficient to such a person is this punishment which was inflicted by the majority, ⁷ so that, on the contrary, you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest somehow such a person be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

³ On behalf of the saints that are in His land, He has magnified all His pleasure in them.

¹² At the brightness before Him the clouds passed, hail and coals of fire. ¹³ The Lord also thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice.

¹³ For the sin of his lips a sinner falls into snare, but a righteous man escapes from them. ^(12:13A) He whose looks are gentle shall be pitied, but he that contends in the gates will afflict souls.

²⁷ He that forbears to utter a hard word is discreet, and a patient man is wise.

⁴⁶ For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? ⁴⁷ And if you greet your friends only, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? ⁴⁸ You therefore be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

³² But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. ³³ And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive it back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners, so that they may receive the same amount back. ³⁵ But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping to receive nothing back; and your reward shall be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. ³⁶ Therefore be compassionate, just as your Father also is compassionate.

¹³ Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. ¹⁴ But each one is tempted by his own lusts, being drawn away and being seduced by them.

¹⁸ Servants, subject yourselves to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the crooked. ¹⁹ For this is admirable, if because of conscience toward God someone endures pain, suffering unjustly. ²⁰ For what glory is it, if when you sin and are beaten, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it, you endure, this is admirable before God. ²¹ For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving behind an example for you, that you should follow in His footsteps,

¹⁸ For when they speak haughty words of emptiness, they entice through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, those who are escaping from those who are living in error, ¹⁹ promising to them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom anyone has been defeated, by this one also he has been enslaved. ²⁰ For if having escaped from the corruptions of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, yet by these, having become entangled they are defeated, the latter end has become worse for them than the first. ²¹ For it was better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than knowing it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But it has happened to them according to the saying of the true proverb: "A dog returns to his own vomit," and, "A sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."

²⁶ These things I wrote to you concerning those who deceive you.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹⁴ And he deceives my own people who dwell on the earth by the signs which were given to him to do before the Beast, saying to those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound--and came to life! -from the sword.

¹⁶ A little is better to the righteous than the abundant wealth of sinners.

¹⁶ Better is a small portion with the fear of the Lord, than great treasures without the fear of the Lord.

² and apply your hand, knowing that it behooves you to prepare such meats; but if you are very insatiable,

¹⁵ A sluggard having hid his hand in his bosom, will not be able to bring it up to his mouth.

¹⁵ Behold, I have set before you this day life and death, good and evil.

¹¹ For in this way you shall live long, and years of your life shall be added to you.

¹⁶ The works of the righteous produce life, but the fruits of the ungodly produce sins.

¹⁹ A righteous son is born for life, but the persecution of the ungodly ends in death.

⁹ and has walked in My commandments and kept My ordinances, to do them — the righteous man shall surely live, says the Lord.

²⁰ But the soul that sins shall die; and the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, nor shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the iniquity of the transgressor shall be upon him. ²¹ And if the transgressor shall turn away from all his iniquities which he has committed, and keep all My commandments, and do justice and mercy, he shall surely live, and shall no means die. ²² None of his trespasses which he has committed shall be remembered; in his righteousness which he has done he shall live. ²³ Shall I in any way desire the death of the sinner, says he Lord, as I desire that he should turn from his evil way, and live? ²⁴ But when the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, according to all the transgressions which the transgressor has done, none of his righteousness which he has wrought shall be at all remembered; in his trespass in which he has trespassed, and in his sins in which he has sinned, in them shall he die.

²¹ so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²² But now having been freed from sin, and having become enslaved to God, you have your fruit resulting in sanctification, and the end, eternal life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹¹ For the saving grace of God has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,

²⁹ If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of Him.

⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.

¹¹ Beloved, do not imitate the evil, but the good. He who does good is of God; he who does evil has not seen God.
